I still think that's more than slightly stretching things. There are simularities, sure, but those simularities are very general. Some of the points you brought up don't even really fit in the context you're trying to apply them too. The SDF-1 was not destroyed at the end of Masters, it was destroyed at the end of the Macross Saga in Robotech. Saying that "well, the SDF-1's ruins were destroyed" is too far removed. Gigantic ships that carry their entire race? Heck, they're just a rip off of the Zentradi that are more advanced. You could say the Zentradi all lived on Gigantic ships that carried their entire race and that was the basis for the Marduk. Any connection between MII and R:Masters sounds like the law of fives to me.

Where is this Reznor sound pack, and why didn't they use it?

I actually thought the VF-19P looked a helluva lot nicer than the VF-19S seen in the regular M7 series.

Official Transformers Alternators and more thread.
Radd replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As it's popped up in this very thread before, the popular guess is that HasTak will make another line of Transformers that is as highly detailed and faithful as the Alternators line, but while in scale to each other not in scale to the Alternators, that will consist of Jets and other military vehicles. -

Don't just look at the visor, remember to take everything else about hte head into consideration. Also Takara seems to be molding the heads after the characters' heads from the animation, not the original toys or the box artwork, wich were often quite different. -

I sincerely doubt that it is Hot Rod or Cliffjumper, given the Binaltech/Alternator staple of giving the character heads close to their G1 animation designs. The head does bare a vague likeness to Windcharger's toy's original head, but not that strongly at all. Given that, I would rule out all of those guesses. -
They, like everyone else, want Naruto. They also have the money to outbid most of the other companies. They won't do it right, either. They're about the last company that still does not offer to release the uncut version of the shows they butcher to DVD.
-
What? No 'STOP RAPING THE SHOWS I WANT TO SEE YOU FAT &%#&S!' option, or at least a 'RELEASE ONE PIECE UNCUT TO DVD YOU STUPID (*^SUCKING #$%^S!' option? Seems a tad unsporting.

Kinda OT. Da World's LARGEST joint has been found.

I'm still reeling from the sad fact that the BBC is offering free Olympic coverage to the world, sans commercials and whatnot, over the internet, as the games are taking place, but the United States as a whole is blocked because of NBC. So we're stuck with their 4 hour behind coverage, littered with commercials, and horrible commentary. Yeah the spirit of the Olympics is being brought to the people. On that note, they're also apparently strictly enforcing corporate sponsorship. Coke I guess is one of the sponsors, so if you walk in with a Pepsi t-shirt, they'll ask you to turn it inside out or leave. Tht's what I hear, at least. -
I loved Unbreakable, and liked Sixth Sense a whole lot, however The Village left a terrible taste it my mouth. I would go so far as to say I felt unclean after viewing it. I guessed the "surprise ending" about 5-15 minutes into the movie, and was left with nothing but the stiff, forced performances of the cast (many good actors, but performing very poorly in this movie), a lacking script, and only one moment that was even close to a fright, and that moment had nothing to do with monsters or anything at all. Me and my girlfriend agreed that the laughs were the only thing that made this movie bareable, perfect modern MST3k material. I'm still not certain if King Arthur is a good movie, or if it only felt that way because it played immeadiately after The Village at the drive in.

I'd like to see more variety in the Alternators line, or even a somewhat related line of highly detailed and articulate Transformers that are possibly not in scale with the Alternators, but still in scale with each other (such as many imagine the Decepticon jets and other war vehicles would be handled). Trucks would be cool, not even like Dump Trucks, Semis and Firetrucks, just like a regular truck, truck. Grok? Som motorcycles maybe? I for one would welcome the variety in robot mode sizes, adds a bit of to the whole 'realism' thing we loosly apply to giant transforming robots. -
I initially didn't think the first 5-12 episodes or so didn't do an ideal job of bringing a new viewer into the story, and I still think that's probably the case with most people. However, after seeing much of the series and becoming familier with everything, I love going back and watching every single episode of the series, with new appreciation for those initial episodes. I'd also like to see more Mac7 based stuff. I think Macross 7 as it is was just long enough, but I'd like to see more with those characters and themes.

I've been considering picking up that same kinda card. As far as midrange cards go, it tops the benchmarks on DOOM3, though I may even be able to swing a 5900 while still around $200. It sounds like you were having more problems than I am with a Geforce 3.
-
hmmm.. if your sucky geforce FX card is letting you play at 1600x1200 at a good clip you must have a monster of a card and it is definitely not sucky. and sorry to say, but the sound in doom 3 is handled by your cpu... your new soundcard really isn't doing too much for you. I'm not certain how true that is. My soundcard was giving me some static on three of my speakers in THX mode, up unitl I updated the soundcard drivers.

Gumpei Yokoi didn't resign, he was just reassigned. He designed the controller for the N64, IIRC. His career wasn't killed by the Virtual On, but rather by the car that hit and killed him one night. Really? I could have sworn that Gumpei had left Nintendo prior to that, shortly after the Virtual Boy fiasco, and I'm fairly certain he was working for Bandai (I believe he deisgned, or at least did work for the Wonderswan) when he was killed in that car accident.
-
The biggest travesty of the Virtual Boy was that Nintendo screwed it up, despite the complaints of designer Gumpei Yokoi, and then when they released the butchered design and it failed, he was pretty much forced to resign from Nintendo. DS doesn't really strike me as a Virtual Boy situation, though. The second screen seems gimmicky, unless developers do something innovative with it, but otherwise it seems like a solid system. It's still quite small and portable, likely to have plenty of battery life, and comes with an already present library of excellent games along with the promise of some very exciting new games. Virtual Boy had none of that going for it.

I have to agree with those that just don't think the PSP, for all it's impressive marvels, is worth the price. I have limited funds to distributed between several expensive hobbies, and I mainly play videogames out of the house, on the bus, on roadtrips, or at work, where I have no access to a power outlet. Combined with the fact that I'd rather play a good 2D game than a mediocre 3D game with mind blowing graphics, and my GBA SP suits me just fine. I am interested in the DS, however I do hope that it's 3D capabilities will not mean an end to what is pretty much our only 2D gaming system.

There's a little cynic in all of us. There are different approaches to consumption oriented art, as you put it. The more successful, though riskier, approach is for the money people to give the artists a budget and let them go wild. The less successful, but for the time being safer, approach is for the money people to make a movie by committee and hope to please everyone while excelling at nothing. The difference between these approaches is that for the first, while the money people are intending to make a buck and are banking on the artist's talent and popularity to do so, the artist can still be making the movie for art's sake. Admittedly, especially in America, this way of making entertainment is not used as much, but it is still done. Apparently Miyazake's backers took that approach. I expect eventually we will see more of the first approach popping up again in the future as the public finally tires of lowering it's expectations for the studios.

The movie just kind of throws you in there and if you haven't seen the series it seems to be completely out of left field. I'm not saying you'd still like the series, but I do like the series, but I'm not big on the movie. I do like parts of it though.

Damn I should pay more attention before I post. I normally do, but when reading threads related to Star Wars the words all just kinda blur together these days.
-
To be fair, the Star Wars movies are his to do with as he pleases. Still, that is pretty freaking stupid of him to say.

Wow, hey, it's nice to know I'm not alone in my love for DOOM3's flashlight.
-
Yeah, this poll is missing some important options. I want one if the p[rice drops to something reasonable, and the quality is good. Same with the Beta. If I can find them all for a price worthy of the quality, I'll snag 'em all.
-
I think I'm one of the minority that actually loves the gameplay mechanics of the flashlight. I'd never use that mod that 'tapes' the flashlight to your gun, because of what that takes away from the game. I hate to sound like a McDonald's commercial but I'm loving it.

The point is those games are still not coming over. The point is, while we are getting more games than ever before, there are still good games that just do not make it Stateside. As for 'dying' genres, they are only dying because the companies have decreed it, and it is not at all related to those genre's level of popularity. Ask Michael Eisner and he will tell you that 2D animation is dead, meanwhile anime is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds. Moreso since most American studios have all but stopped doing 2D animation entirely. Mega Man has been popular, and remains popular, for years. I believe the only two Rockman games not to get brought over were Rockboard and the Rockman FMV game.
