    Vf-17

Just imagine how bad us VF-4 fans have it!
  2. Until now I've never decided on what the 'Dimension' part of the title stood for. I've alternately figured it was for the size of the ship, or for the folding capability. If Jikuu does specifically refere to alternate dimensions, that settles it. However, you mention "3 dimensions", wich is how we describe height, width, and length. If Jikuu does carry that connotation as well, then we're back to square one and I would have to say it's a deliberate wordplay.
  3. I really despise that kinda gameplay though, where it only matters how many people you kill, but you can get killed over and over again with no consequences. In games like Jedi Outcast and Academy, you'd have tons of people going around bragging about their kills, but declining to mention that most of the corpses littering the ground where their own. It takes far less skill to kamikaze like that, than to keep yourself alive through the game.
  4. Yo, I never said the car wasm't popular, or didn't have a following, I just said there isn't nearly the fanatical following. Do you really think there is such a following that Hasbro will be able to as easily sell several different Smokescreen versions to more than just a few collectors?
  5. Well, considering how popular the car is in Japan (from what I've been told), it makes sense over there. Far less sense here in the States where there is not such a fanatical following.
  6. That's good to hear, sort of. Still, the encoding quality probably took a hit from cramming that many episodes per disk.
  7. Neil Gaiman is Japanese? I'm sure that will come as a surprise to him.
  8. It's been quoted here before that Kawamori has stated that "the true story of Space War I is somewhere between SDF and DYRL?", and the fact that M7 indicates a mesh between the two lendsa lot of credit to that remark. It is only for simplicity sake, or misinformation, that ppeople state unequivocally that the "true Space War I" uses the story of SDF and the visuals of DYRL?. This is nothing new.
  9. Um, no, this is not correct. That is *optional* and can be turned off. The dvds contain the full uncut video and Japanese audio with subtitles. Only an idiot would buy the bootlegs over the official release. Actually, from what I've heard you're wrong there, buddy. It seems dialogue was edited for content in the Tokyopop subtitled version. Here's what I've heard, some of wich may or may not be true. Even in the subtitled version, the original music is not used as the music rights were seperate and too expensive for Tokyopop to pick up. I'm not certain this one is true. The entire subplot of the one girl's "papa" is still edited from the subtitled dialogue. I'm fairly certain I heard this from a reliable source. Names are unchanged, but Tokyopop has a reputation for bad dialogue translations. Still, other than the missing subplot, I imagine they're better than a bootleg, if not quite up to par with subtitles by nearly every other legitimate distributer. I think I also recall hearing that while the ricer sounds were toned down in the subtitled version, they're still not the same sounds as the original Japanese audio, this one could also be wrong though. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not a huge ID fan, so I'm not inclined to get the series either way, but this is what I heard from friends who were huge ID fans, and from forums on the web.
  10. My only complaint is the shape Amano's english site is in. He used to have a decent offering for his english speaking fans, a site run by assistants who worked with him in his New York studio, even. Now it seems as if his english site was made by Japanese assistants as an afterthought, his Japanese site looks much better. I'm really looking forward to this book, though. I just recently was reunited with my hardcover copy of the previous Gaiman/Amano collaboration.
  11. Ahh, TROOPS. By far, the best and greatest of any fanfilm. So good, it got liscened by LucasArts Indeed. Not to mention the guy that wrote it went on to do Star Wars comics for Dark Horse. Tag and Bink have since become my alltime favourite SW characters.
  12. It just would have mshed better if they made Anakin look older. Makeup, that's all it would take. Still, it's hard to tell from just that one screenshot.
  13. My 1/48ths with FAST packs are my pride and joy, with MPC Prime running a close second. haterist, the American release of MPC Prime by Hasbro has shortened smoke stacks, and painted on 'battle damage', that's what Opus is talking about.
  14. Switching to standard comic page proportions. Hopefully I'll be far enough ahead on the comic that I can start in on some animation when my lightboard arrives.
  15. I have not bought this movie simply because of no Japanese audio track. I watched it, when a roommate rented it, and my decision was made then. Just because it was made first with english audio, does not mean that they chose good voice actors. There may have been a couple decent actors in there, but overall it was par for the anime dubbing course, wich is far below my standards. I like the movie, but if no dual audio DVD is released, I simply will not buy it.
  16. Take a look at the Valkyrie design again, the cockpit is on the fuselage, not all the way to the front of the nose. Also, the chest plate slides down, partially obscuring the cockpit in battroid mode. Add to that, like has already been mentioned, the animation in SDF Macross is very low budget and a lot of mistakes appear in the animation.
  17. You know of anyplace with digital fansubs of the Herlock tv series?
  18. I would love to see a company like Pioneer or AnimEigo release the original Herlock tv series. I've only seen the first 5 episodes or so fansubbed on VHS, ages ago.
  19. Wasn't that the Herlock movie 'Arcadia of My Youth' that was combined with Queen Millenium footage to make some craptacular Clash of the Bionoids style release? The uncut Arcadia movie is available on DVD from AnimEigo, and is one of the best DVDs in my collection.
  20. Might be interesting to note that apparently Go-Bots the cartoon came out before Transformers the cartoon. Also, what is Mighty Orbots a rip off of? I've never seen more than the first episode, but it had some amazing animation for even today, and it was an interesting blend of Japanese and American styles.
  21. Funimation licensed it? The Hell? I hope they pull some kind of miracle out of their behinds and don't screw this up, otherwise I'll be turning to our friends from Hong Kong.
  22. If you know who Leiji Matsumoto is, that should be an answer in itself. However if you don't. Matsumoto is one of the Legends of anime, who created such shows as Space Pirate Captain Herlock, Galaxy Express 999, and Space Battleship Yamato (edited into Starblazers in America). The man combines a unique, instantly recognizable art style with strong themes and larger than life characters. Galaxy Railways is a recent show (past couple years) set in the Matsumoto universe, following the life of a young recruit into the Galaxy Railways defense force. Well done animation, and classic Matsumoto characters and storytelling. Simply put, one of the best anime series to debut in the past several years.
  23. "Why would anyone build such a thing?" "Because it's coooooooool!"
  24. Actually, I'm not a big fan of the first film either, for precisely the same reasons you mention. However, Production IG looks like they're doing their usual world class job in terms of animation, which is my main drawing point for this film. Same sentiment here: I'm rather fond of the GitS movie for its technical performances than for its story depth and/or faithfullness to the original manga While I will admit that the GitS movie is technically impressive, I can't really appreciate that much because of how the movie was hyped. In the movie's own hype they compare it to Akira, but if you really do compare the animation in both movies GitS isn't even in the same league, by far. Now I can't watch the movie without that comparison in my head. wow, completely disagree.. GitS does stuff that you would even dream of back in the day Akira was made... the CGI and hand drawn stuff is seemless, and the mood and pacing are just incredible. while akira is amazing considering when it was made, the character animation, fluidity of movement just doesn't stack up. GitS is the first japanese animation where I looked at the character animation done and thought that it was on par or better than anything disney has ever put out... even when they were just rotoscoping stuff. I'm speaking as an animation student, while I'm reluctant to say that makes my opinion more qualified, I learned a lot at art school about what makes good animation, what to look for. I'm speaking on technical aspects alone here, objectively as possible. Gui really covered about all I could say on the matter. I would also reccomend checking out 'Wings of Honneamise' aka 'The Royal Space Force', and the first two Patlabor movies. Wings, at least, I would also rank much higher in the animation department than GitS, for many of the same reasons. The Patlabor movies I would rank at least about on par with GitS. I will also admit I'm rather critical of CG. I don't hate well done CG, but I've seen plenty of absolutely terrible CG that has wowed audiences the world over. In the American trailer for Innocence they even feature some shots of just such CG that really stands out (in a bad way) compared to the otherwise well done visuals. I wonder if that says something about the American view of CG, when you realize the Japanese trailer avoided such shots.
  25. The world needs more shows like that!
