  1. Wait, so this is live action? Well, then I don't expect anything more than crap. Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised, but the odds are against it. As for Chung's style? I like the original Aeon Flux shorts, but I hated Reign. Didn't Chung do the character designs for Lucasart's 'Full Throttle'? If so it was a radical departure from what he's known for, and I really like those designs. If nothing else, his usual work is something far different from most of what gets out into the maintream.
  2. I loved Spaceballs, and A History of the World Part 1. I am kinda worried though, Dracual Dead and Loving It did suck the big one. We'll see.
  3. The whole thing was beautiful, hilarious, and wonderful! I loved it. The Starscream bit had me rolling in my seat. The outtakes were awsome, too! Definitely one of the best Flash movies I've seen in quite a while.
  4. Yeah, before a name was released, there was a whole lotta guesswork based on the headmold alone.
  5. Impressive. Most impressive.
  6. Chalk up another win for the Alternators. I can't wait for this guy to hit the shelves. My only, sole complaint is that I liked how they were keeping the heads close to their G1 animation counterparts, and this one severely breaks that tradition. Still, it's a good head sculpt and I don't much care for Windcharger's original head design (face in a box), so it's a minor complaint.
  7. Some animation I did back in art school. It's 4 years old but I recently reshot it at better quality on my home computer, and thought I'd share. http://steampowered.net/animation/rodney.avi
  8. I wish I knew. I simply hope that the DVD release gets a respectful subtitle treatment, complete with subtitling their original names, and not the Americanized names. I've seen fansubs of the first two episodes, before the series came out over here, and it looks absolutely amazing.
  9. I heard it was a toss up as to what theatres would get the dub, and wich would get the sub. I don't know if that's true or not, my theatre got the subtitled version. This was a very pleasant surprise.
  10. Robot mode is great, but the radio mode could use some tweaking. Not even major tweaking. Prime's feet are made to turn around and fold flat, there's no reason to have them sticking up, or having the "toes" sticking outwards, when they could be spun around and facing in, wich would look a lot better. Smaller speakers would also help. I'm certain there's some out there. It also would have been better just to have the battery removable, set it aside like one of Prime's guns, rather than keep it there, looking out of place. It's a rather nifty custom, though.
  11. You're joking, right? If not I'd just like to point out "us westerners" do it every bit as much as your average anime/manga franchise. Tell me where the X-Men movies fit into the comic books? How about each of the X-men tv series? For that matter, nearly every mainstream comic book on the stands lacks anything but the most laughable concept of continuity. That's just one example. As for GitS2? I saw it and I must say it exceeded my expectations. It's still not as good as Shirow's original Manga, but I found it to be an enjoyable movie. The philisophical dialogue wasn't nearly as asinine and deliberately vague as to hide the fact that it lacked any substance. The "plot" of the movie (one of the subplots in the original GitS manga reused and dumbed down) was deliberately kept in the backseat, with the themes ofthe movie acting as the true ride. The characters, while still lacking as much personality of their manga counterparts, weren't so dull and lifeless as in the previous GitS movie. They seemed to retain some of their quirks and personality traits, though much more sombre. The actual plot of the movie seemed to be less of a direct sequel to the original GitS movie, but rather seemed to pick and choose elements from the previous movie, the manga, the sequel to the manga (what little I know about it, I really want to pick that up), and SAC. I still disagree with eugimon on several things. The characters still, for the most part, are well drawn still frames, with relatively little animation. When there is animation, it is top notch, but there are lots of still frames, oftentimes without even any mouth animation (I know that carrying on conversations mentally over radio communication is a staple of the GitS universe, but at least toss in some animation if you don't have to animate the mouths. Some hair blowing in the wind, a little more animated facial expressions, something!) However, while the characters are in those still frames, lighting effects are often tossed over them to put some motion on the screen, and it works to good effect, though I'd still take well done animation over cheating techniques like that. There is some good CG in the movie, too. Some downright excellent CG that really impressed me. Conversely, there was some pretty piss-poor CG in some scenes. I'm not so biased towards 2D that I cannot appreciate well done CG, it's just that I won't accept poorly done CG like it seems so many people are willing to. While still not as well animated as some classics like Akira and Wings of Honneamise, it still ranks highly with it's visuals. A word on the manga personalities to the cast, I see a lot of people here claiming that the cast was all comedy, all the time. I think those sentiments are overcompensating for the overly somber and serious portrayals Oshii has given us. The manga characters often went from comical to serious, wichever mood was most approrpriate for the scene in question. GitS was a serious book overall, and also very philisophical, though it's stories were better written and it's philosphy well thought out with lots of elements to back it up. The graphic novel had an entire section in the back detailing both the philosophies and technology of the book, and I believe there were even a couple essays written by Shirow.
  12. Every game genre has a basic premise that you can boil every game in that genre down to. It's the actual execution of that premise that sets the good games apart from every other face in the crowd.
  13. I've never been a Quake fan. The original did not impress me enough to bring me back to first person shooters, and the second one didn't really do it for me either. The third game completely lacked a single player mode (deathmatching bots does not count) so I wasn't at all intersted. Apparently, Raven isn't emphasizing the mood as much as iD did for DOOM3, concentrating instead on the action. I don't know how I feel about that, since it was the mood and atmosphere (along with the eye popping visuals and masterfully created levels) that really made DOOM3 my favourite FPS game since DOOM][. Still, I wasn't at all hyped for DOOM3 until I saw the trailer a day before the game's release. So, we'll see. The game certainly looks pretty, much like DOOM3, and Raven does make games I tend to enjoy. I'm really looking forward to them making a new Jedi Knight game using the DOOM3 engine.
  14. But it's the quality that counts. I'll take good cel animation over mediocre CG any day of the week, twice on Sunday. Macross Zero's CG and 2D has flipflopped between mediocre and excellent, with a tendancy towards excellent. And I'll admit a slight perference towards 2D, so I'll take excellent 2D over excellent 3D any day of the week as well.
  15. So far I've only heard one person tell me they didn't like it, but this was my roommate who also loved Alien Versus Predator, and thinks that Van Helsing is the pinnacle of modern cinema, so I'm looking forward to this movie even more!
  16. I like the title, and I really don't see how anyone who would like this type of movie to begin with would see the title as out of place. I mean, come on! I love the premise, but wasn't holding high hopes until I picked up the Onion this week, and they gave it a good review. I'm starting to hear more and more about this movie, we picked up a free DVD with behind the scenes stuff at BestBuy, and I must say I'm even more hyped about it than when I first saw the trailer.
  17. Please tell me this comment was made with tongue firmly in cheek.
  18. Wow, watched the trailer. Mediocre will certainly be a high goal for this movie. I thought we were talking about the new Gonzo animated series.
  19. I really disliked the G.I. Joe movie, not the least of wich because they took Cobra Commander, who already had an estalbished, and much better past than the one concoted for the movie, and the stupid tossing in of a new group of contrived villains. It got worse when they brought Cobra Commander back. Though it was nice to see him send Serpentor packing, there were really no redeeming factors for those last episodes. As far as cartoons go, they can't exactly get much worse. So long as the new show is mediocre, it will be a step up.
  20. It wouldn't take a huge budget to do something awsome, but I'm stating that a Star Wars tv series could concievably have a larger than usual budget for a tv series. Also, epends on what you mean by 'episodic'. Not every show makes every episode a self contained little story with little relation to those before or after it. What's to keep them from making a long running serial where very episode picks up where the last left off?
  21. Given that Lucasfilm has cashmoney to spare, I doubt a budget will be anything to worry about. I'd be worried about the show getting stupid like the novels have been. I mean, there's some great novels and comic books out there, then there's some utter crap. Of course, I doubt they could go wrong if they made Tag and Bink the stars, and handed the show to Kevin Rubio. So many SW fans would want my head on a pike if Lucas took that suggestion seriously, though.
  22. It really irks me when people stand up to claim that endings that make you think, and piece together clues gathered over an entire story, as opposed to endings that you can guess 15 minutes into the story, or endings where they take you by the hand and walk you through every little detail, are somehow bad endings. FF7 is no different from any Final Fantasy up to 9 (I haven't played past that yet) in that it has no need, nor any room, for a sequel. FF7 is also no different in that despite this fact, people have been clamouring for sequels to many of Square's games. People were speculating about a Final Fantasy 6 sequel for years. You want to know why there's been a sudden deluge of FF sequels? Well, they started after it became apparent that Sakaguchi, the creatorof the FF series and one of Square's top people, was leaving Square. Wacky, huh? So the guy that writes the stories and makes the games leaves, then immeadiately the company starts milking sequels to finished stories. Sounds about right.
  23. Heh, I'm wondering how well some of these Alternators could be kitbashed into some killer Gao Gai Gar toys. They need to release a Lamborgini so we can get a Volfogg.
  24. While I hate to rationalize wny of the shows' designs into a Robotech context, even for MOSPEADA it's not entirely out of the question that the ship is build to land. It would explain the otherwise unforgivable lack of lower weapon emplacements. Mmm, I love that ship design. The MOSPEADA ship designs are one thing that has me looking forward to the new Robotech series.
  25. Work in progress for page 25. A little bit in this first book, and much more in book 2, I plan to push the whole Bavarian Army of Destruction, and their plans to take over the world. Yeah, Hubert, I've been sneaking in references here and there. The Deathshadow is one of the ships floating in the background of one of the pages, as well as a MOSPEADA ship, a Zentradi ship, the Hyperion from LotGH, and I think a few others. The main ship that gets zoiped is heavily Matsumoto inspired, but not really from anything. By the time I get to book 2, there will be enough pages that, hopefully, people will forgive it for not being a joke a week strip.
