  1. Sadly, I can imagine Bandai releasing the Tornado pack VF-25F before the Armored VF-25S...imagine that! By the way, there is a complete absence of the VF-27 and the RVF-25 in toy form other than the DX line as well. I'd take every mecha if released as a side VF.
  2. I dug this out because I am wondering when the VF-25S armored version is coming out, I know...probably nobody knows.
  3. I didn't reinforce any of the hinges. The shoulder one was probably too tight since day one, and during one instance (can't remember if it was transformation or just posing, but remember I was repositioning the arm thus applied some torque on the tight hinge, and it came off. You can actually still see how it broke by "twisting". The backplate hinge was probably under too much "lateral" stress. The shoulder piece was pushing it perpendicularly (towards the tail in fighter mode). I must remark I kept it in fighter mode after the shoulder broke. There are clear gel-type epoxy in the local market, wondering if that would be better to fix ABS than superglue? Guess my question is, does superglue work on ABS? Another question regarding the decals. I am debating whether to glue everything in place first or replace the decals first. I was thinking the best course of action may be to remove the old broken decals (I used a fair bit of Mr Mark decal softener), which may prove to be a tough job; then glue the pieces together in fighter mode, then apply the new decals. IT may be easier to align the red and black stripes this way. The only piece I see NEEDS to be decaled before gluing is the leg's black stripe and probably the wings (I was not considering changing them). mickyg, I would be very careful with transformation because in any case, it scratches paint and decals...and if some hinges are too tight like the shoulders on mine, the twisting and pulling will eventually break it.
  4. I built this model right after it was released, so it was a long time ago. It has been displayed in Battroid mode and gone through no more than a couple of transformations when new. To my surprise, one of the arms fell recently, later one of the wing/backplate folding hinge also gave up. I also realized the head assembly is a bit floppy, because some snap-fit tab is either broken, cracked or simply lose. I was thinking about making it into a non-transforming single-mode model, but wondering which mode is best for my current situation. When the left arm broke, I thought fighter mode was best, but now the left wing assembly is also broken and re-attaching that piece may be a problem since the hinge is so small and there is no other attachment point to glue it on again. Tucking the broken left arm under the fuselage in fighter mode is easy, but as I said I have no idea what to do about the backplate+wing piece. The broken pieces are both ABS, and I really don't know if superglue, tamiya modeling glue or epoxy would do the trick.
  5. I knew that size charts and stats would be quoted after I typed my message...and I also have in mind all the points made, but still, Zentradi mecha SHOULD BE bigger than they're usually represented in toy form. If they're the same size as a VF-1, there's no way you can fit any Zentradi inside...and there is also a lot of literature on this matter. Regarding Mrs. Jenius' stature and the Yamato Q-rau, it seems plain silly to have her legs stretched stiff and tuck in the backpack, basically the Q-rau never had a proper cockpit in Mr. Kawamori's head, but the smaller the Q-rau, the harder it gets to visually convince anyone otherwise. To summarize, I think I'd have preferred a larger Q-rau toy for the original price tag, and can stand to-scale with the new (unaffordable) Regult.
  6. Regarding scale: Considering you have to fit a meltran about the height of a VF-1 inside, the prototype's size seems quite 1/60 to me. The released toy is much smaller. Since we are at it, the 1/60 Regult Yamato is working on is huge compared to the VF-1, and the Toynami 1/100 Regult is also much taller than the Hi-metal VF-1... I think Yamato consciously scaled-down the release version to make it more manageable and affordable. That said, I'd be all over another Q-rau if it: 1) is as articulated as the Destroids 2) is to-scale (*preferably 1/60)
  7. The TV and DYRL Q-raus are quite different, many contours and shapes were changed in DYRL so Yamato would have to make mostly new parts instead of just repaint it. It's such an outdated figure I am surprised it got a re-issue about two years ago, compared to the Destroids issued about the same time and you know which one is better.
  8. Thanks mickyg, I wasn't sure that was 1/72...but I think my valks will have to do w/o the statue: too expensive for me. I keep coming back to this thread because it gives me hope that someday my 5 kits will be assembled. They've been piled up for years now.
  9. must have had a brain fart or sth, but what 1/72 Klan are we talking about here? the one with Superpack and is worth a body part?
  10. That's why the VF-25 and the VF-27 have knives stored in their shields...
  11. a question for those who watched the film, how much airtime do the Valkyries get? I was wondering if the VF-27 gets ANY airtime at all.
  12. SLEEK: adjective 1 glossy, satiny, sleek, silken, silky, silklike, slick having a smooth, gleaming surfac 2 sleek well-groomed and neatly tailored; especially too well-groomed I guess in the context of airplanes or transforming robots, means aerodynamic or clean lines (*not chunky in battroid mode). "Sleek" probably does not apply to neither: the 51 and the 27 all have jagged lines to make them look menacing. I think the 19 is a bit on the chunky side in all three modes...that leaves the 25 or the 11 as the cleanest valks IMO. Not necessarily my favorites, I like the SV-51 in fighter mode best, closely followed by the 27. The former looks like a Russian Su-27 while the latter a mix between the SR-71, the F-22 and the Su-27.
  13. isn't Roy's VF-1 firing a "gun pod"? being a Gatling gun, the poor Regult must have been hit by a projectile (giant robot bullet?) and not a laser... back on topic: very effective compact diorama!
  14. anybody else thinks it is frightening how they keep on adding weight to that backplate supported by two insignificant hinges? I guess the Tornado has some extra bits like the Armored version...I should shut up anyway, only built the first plain Alto and the rest of the Skull Squad is tucked in boxes somewhere.
  15. Yup, that's the method I've been using since I got the Brera. I realized where the peg was located after initial terrifying opening. I thought I had shared the method but maybe not. On paint scratch, I have to note that my Brera has noticeable scratches in the hip gun area, where the wings connect to them. In fighter mode the scratches are covered, but will show in battroid or gerwalk. It is caused by the friction between wings and hip gun areas, I keep mine in fighter mode mostly. funky color matching there! I wonder if under the same light conditions the Brera is so interesting to look at (maybe not). instead of being a problem, it makes it look more realistic with a slight color difference for parts made of different materials, much like real aircraft and their individual panels. I know this may not have been intentional.
  16. anybody posted comparisons of Hi-metal VF-1 with VF-100 VF-25? I was wondering how they looked side by side in Battroid and Fighter modes, have the impression the VF-1 is a bit on the big side
  17. Like Graham, I am also on the fence for the green one. I really like the VF-27 but the paint application puts me off.
  18. I agree they're piling up, but I don't think it was left over stock from the first batch that arrived in HK, I remember clearly they were nowhere to be seen few weeks after initial release and then suddenly popped up by the stacks earlier this year, at cheaper prices too...
  19. I am quite sure the oil reflection or rainbow effect is due to the layers of polymer and not the glass itself...that's why you do get that effect with plastic only like in the model I photographed.
  20. mm. a 2m Klan statue? sounds like a good idea!
  21. 1/48 VF-25 and 1/72 Q-Rea are both completely off the radar since initial announcement...I sense a Kadum.
  22. I swear I didn't touch up the pictures (or the model), it came like this right out of the box. I may have seen this in some other models in my collection, but they're all boxed now. To me it looks almost exactly the same as the real F-18 at the start of this thread.
  23. To be honest, I have seen a subtle rainbow effect on at least one of my models, it's a 1/72 easy model Eurofighter Typhoon. I will share pictures when I can. It came out of the box and I don't think it is intentional, just a natural property of the clear plastic used.
  24. Although it looks nice, the problem with the Yamato tint is cracking. I have this "spiderweb" of cracks all over my VF-1S and I didn't even touch the toy so often. If you want to get rid of the tint, alcohol can clean the layer completely, you need a cotton swab.
