  1. See, that's all fine when talking about non-transforming mecha.. but that scale just isn't big enough to do Macross kits any justice. All you wind up with is all of the major compromises in this kit, and a kit that doesn't really scale well with any other modern series of Macross kits that exist. Comparing my HM VF-19S with an ancient 1/100 HG Gundam kit doesn't feel too bad of a size comparison, but the VF-19S feels a lot more spindly, while the Gundam has some bulk to it. It just doesn't feel like it makes any sense to make the kit this small, unless they're banking on nostalgia for the older Macross kits in the same size range. All of their more recent kits from Frontier and Delta have all been in 1/72. This comes off feeling like they gave up on making an HMR YF-19, and decided to make it a kit with parts swapping instead... and if they DO come out with an HMR YF-19, it's just going to destroy this kit's sales.
  2. I just wish Bandai would make up it's freakin' mind, and pick a scale already. They made so many 1/72 kits, and now they're just going "Nah, we like 1/100 now." Sheeeeeeeesh. They haven't figured out that "1/100" being a "good" scale is entirely dependent on the size of the subject. Valks are pretty tiny compared to Gundams, and you're not going to be able to even come close to the amount of detail in an HG Gundam kit at that scale, especially if you expect the thing to transform.
  3. I kind of.. don't mind it? But it reminds me a lot of the Messer-painted VF-1S release. Interesting scheme that absolutely does not fit the lines of the VF-0. Painting decorations that mimic natural panel line divisions on the VF-1 is.. weird. I would have just left the whole nose white instead of adding the dumb imitation VF-1 stripe, because it just looks silly having the hips above the nosecone, when the natural dividing line is in a more aesthetically pleasing spot anyhow.
  4. Yeah, nothing here either, but I'm in no rush at all. If they come through, great, if not, I'm not counting it as any huge loss. Maybe reception in Japan has been tepid enough that Bandai are re-thinking their approach.
  5. Mostly it's that I just don't play console games anymore. This is one of those rare remasters that makes me want to jump on it, but it's entirely for nostalgia, and I don't have a ton of interest in anything else. I know there are definitely plenty of good ones to pick up if I do get one, I'm just not sure I would make the time to play them. I've got too many hobbies already. I thought I'd do that with a 3DS years ago, and grabbed the Ocarina of Time and Starfox 64 updates.. and then it just gathered dust while I did stuff on the computer.
  6. Yeah, I definitely don't expect that to be ever done for the Switch. For context, I still have an old Gamecube-compatible Wii that I'd play it on.
  7. Yeah, none of the "guns" for the Wii ever worked that well. I don't think it ever got enough traction with the FPS market to really get anyone invested enough in improving the situation. I'd be happy with a DIY kit, and I've seriously considered just hacking up a wii remote and making this myself. All it needs is the sensor angled down about 30 degrees. This would solve all of the issues I ever had with playing Prime 3. Honestly, I never understood why it wasn't designed this way in the first place. They would have been a whole lot better off just using TNG phasers as a pattern. No one wants to sit with their wrist overextended to aim directly at the screen for a long period of time.
  8. I'm not even worried about getting something new, I'm just tempted to hack up an original Wii-mote and transfer the components into a controller body more conducive to FPS games. I'd gladly play the entire Prime trilogy that way if the controller didn't have me speed-running carpal tunnel. Good point about the console though, and yeah, I might hunt for a good deal on the OLED Switch. I'm just struggling to justify it for one or two games.
  9. I'm seriously considering a Switch at this point, though I might wait and see what the next upgrade is for it. I've almost completely abandoned consoles at this point. What I suspect is going on with the Prime re-releases though is that they're building the re-masters in the same engine they're prepping for Prime 4. If that's the case, I wouldn't expect the other two games to look any worse than the first game's remaster.. though remastering three games' worth of assets is a steep task. Personally though, I think I would actually really like to play Prime 3 without the motion controls. I loved 1 and 2, and I have the Prime Trilogy for the Wii, but I'll say one thing about playing Prime 3: No other game has ever made my hand hurt that much. It's not that the controls are particularly bad, the aiming with the Wii remote was great.. but the Wii controller is NOT a shooter peripheral. The angle I had to hold my wrist at to consistently aim at a screen at eye-level was miserable to hold for long play sessions. I would have loved to play all of those games with motion controls, but only if I could use a customized/rebuilt wii-mote with an angled sensor so I could aim naturally. For better or worse, the motion controls for the Switch aren't up to the task though. Without the sensor bar for precise tracking, people are saying they just can't aim well enough to be useful.
  10. I'm not really even entertaining the notion of leaving this transformable, I kind of just want a 1/100-ish YF-19 kit to build and swoosh around my desk. I might glue it permanently in fighter mode, and scratch build a passable crotch section to replace the grey block they used. What actually strikes me in a weird way is how much it reminds me of the old 1/72 Yamato YF-19. Proportions are much better, but maybe it's the shape of the tails and the color of the plastic?
  11. So I forget the exact chain of links that led me here.. I'm browsing their channel, and am completely blown away. They have a real talent for blending genres, and have a really wide range of tracks they've done, including a nightclub-esque "Aimo", and a jazzy "Seikan Hikou" that's begging for animation of Ranka tap-dancing in a top hat with a cane. Seriously, everything from Haruhi, Clannad, and Trigun, to Sailor Moon, Galaxy Express 999, Attack on Titan, Evangelion, Nausicaa, Totoro, DBZ.. I'm making a massive playlist at the moment. I never thought I needed a Rat Pack remix of End of Evangelion, but here we are. .. And I just found THIS. The top comment on their "Real Folk Blues" cover made my day though.
  12. My "game-related" shelf is growing a bit, and soon my little Ace Combat kits will have company. These both technically need some glue, and a lot of painting to look finished, but I'm actually really enjoying the quick snap-together build-ups. Well.. I say "quick," but these kits are built like multi-colored jigsaw puzzles, especially the Raiden. It's a fun challenge to try building them without looking at the instructions. The Vic Viper is actually holding together completely unglued, which doesn't seem like it should be possible, but these kits are molded incredibly precisely, and those red control surfaces are held on completely by friction on absolutely microscopic pegs. The Raiden's did need a little dab of cement to stay in place though.
  13. After my last experience with DHL, I'm never using them again. They work great when you're around at delivery time, but heaven help you if you have to reschedule a delivery, because they are absolutely incapable of communicating anything about your package to you.
  14. I'm actually really curious, because I'm seeing a fair amount of unexpected positive feedback on season 3. I'm not going to rush to see it, but I'm actually just happy to see people celebrating something they're enjoying.
  15. I don't think there's any way they can charge that much for it and expect it to sell at all. I'd expect something in the same range as the normal release YF-19 re-release, really. Still stupidly expensive, but I can't see them charging anything close to the SV-51's price.
  16. Suppose it's possible, but I thought there were more photos of that one in less suspicious lighting. Guess we'll just have to see. I'm picking up at least one either way, I just hope we don't get a one-shot with it, and they make a couple different colors.
  17. What happened to the darker colored version they showed before? That made it so much less gaudy.. even if it was less accurate.
  18. Yeah, they apparently went through a whole heap of disastrous management unfortunately. I don't know what to really think, since it looks like they're not continuing the line, only liquidating remaining stock. I'm more concerned with the Enterprise D build-up, since I did decide to try that, and have been lamenting the pile of unopened boxes for those kits (though the bonus shuttle models are actually pretty nice). Frankly, I'm still very concerned about that build, because despite all of the images they showed of the "finished" product, I have incredible doubts about the construction. I've watched people doing the build-up, and it's very clear that the people who designed that project had no freaking clue what they were doing. It's like they've never actually built an Enterprise D model in their lives, because it's rather apparent that there is absolutely no structural connection between the saucer and lower hull at all.. they just expect it to snap on somehow? The only way to display it is going to be separately supporting the parts to make it look like they're connected, and the way it is full of individual battery boxes powering every segment just screams at me to scrap the majority of the electronics, and redesign the lighting and power scheme from the ground up. It's just bizarre.
  19. Unfortunately, those two tend to be shelf-warmers, at least from past experience. The VE-1 seems to have something of a cult following for its unique role, but both the 1/60 Yamato and HMR VT-1 really didn't make any waves. The Yamato was easily acquired on clearance not long after it was released, and the HMR was one of the few I seemed to have no trouble getting extras of on pre-order night. In any case, I would never expect Bandai to do anything other than a TWE release for it, if they ever do get around to it, and that's just fine with me. But honestly, it wouldn't really surprise me if Bandai never even considered making their DX VF-1 capable of working with those design changes. Considering how many specialized re-releases they have had to produce over the years to make their valks capable of mounting super and armor packs that they should have known people would want to buy, and yet made no attempt to design valks that would even be capable of mounting them if they were produced, they don't have the greatest track record when it comes to planning their product lines for forward-compatibility.
  20. So THIS is interesting. This just showed up in my junk folder today. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I would love to see them finish off some of the stuff Eaglemoss left hanging. Edit: Apparently the unsold stock is winding up with Master Replicas, while the build-up projects will be handed off to DeAgostini.
  21. Yeah, I REALLY want a VT-1. I can give or take the VE-1, but the Ostrich is just so iconic, and I would love to see one in this size. But yeah.. In general, get with the DYRL stuff, please.
  22. Yeah, they're really the final holdout that keeps coming up with reasons to own a console at all (sort of, at least). I did skip the Wii-U, but I went the extra steps to grab a Wii that ran Gamecube discs, so I could keep playing those. I've held out on the Switch, because I was just so much busier with PC stuff, but I'm debating whether it would be worth it to get a Switch now.. or wait and see what Nintendo's next big move will be, and whether they flub things with backwards compatibility.
  23. I hadn't even considered buying a console in about five or six years at this point, but I will say a Nintendo was always the most likely one, just because everything else eventually winds up on PC. And to think I was actually just considering replaying Metroid Prime..
  24. The only other games that even come to mind there would be Force Unleashed, or Jedi Survivor, and I haven't played either, but I think those are both primarily single-player. If you're looking for pvp-style shenanigans like the old online matches from Jedi Outcast/Academy, I don't know if there's been anything new since that point.
