Bleh.... paid for my AmiAmi order last night, super 17D, and 19P... this is by far the most I've ever spent on macross stuff in a month, let alone a week.

Still utter bull$#!% that they don't include the missiles as standard on these. They were -never- seen without a boatload of missiles on them. And besides, did they even equip the blue ones with the armor pack?

Repeating this here, because it's applicable. *sings* "On the fifth day of Christmas, HLJ sent to me... Two VF-4S!! One Super Nightmare, one whale spermbank, one armor pack... And a robot with a boombox IN SPAAACE!!"
-
I'm kinda okay if AmiAmi doesn't come through with the VF-17D and VF-19P for a few weeks.. give me time to recover from the VF-4s I bought

Haven't shipped mine yet since I'm going to wait til I'm back home first. Then I'll get my pair along with my second Fire Valk with the sound booster and VF-19F all at once. Going to be painful shipping. Totals came out to $618 for two though, so $309 a piece before shipping. Yay for the Yen going back to 83 per dollar

If the included stand mounts are similar to how Yamato displayed them earlier (close to the balance point) then you should be fine using one of the bandai action base stands, with one of EXO's adapters. They work really well if the weight is distributed right.

Wonder if I need to send them a reminder.. I paid for my armor pack months ago, and haven't heard a thing from them yet.

I honestly don't know what you can do, short of making contact with someone in Japan to get the part for you. I tried going through Nippon Yasan to get a replacement for my VF-25G crotch plate (they forgot it ) and so far, no luck there. I don't think Bandai cares one way or another about anyone outside their target market. You might be best trying to find or make a replacement piece yourself.
-
Oh, I did consider getting a new set of arms for my VF-0, but it was actually easier to make a replacement peg than replace the entire arm in that case. Didn't feel like waiting for it to ship either. I might order a set later on though, once I get a better handle on how the shapeways material works. As far as painting.. I almost think it'd be worth trying some of that thin sealing material people use to cover radio control aircraft, and lay that over the big surfaces. I think you just stretch it over, and heat it with a blowdryer to shrink it down.

Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim'
Chronocidal replied to fifbeat's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Except, you don't have the gunner steering a tank. you give different people different jobs. This looks like it has everyone doing the same job, and makes it REALLY hard to believe it would ever work remotely well. If they split up the arms and legs? Sure.. but each one operating one leg and one arm? Seriously?- 1207 replies

Depending on what part of the arm broke, it might be fixable.. but honestly, that arm design is just terrible. The little pin holding the lower arm on one of my VF-0s just snapped at one point, so I wound up carving a new pin out of scrap plastic, and carving out a spot to glue it into the interior of the upper arm. It's sturdy now, but I just don't trust those arms at all. Anyhow, the VF-0 looks amazing.

I just sent everything to my warehouse for now, since I'll wait for the VF-4 to be ready to go before I ship... and wait til I'm back from vacation, and can actually pick up my mail. This is going to be a really interesting Christmas this year... I keep forgetting what else I have on preorder that will all arrive close together.. Super VF-17D, VF-19P, VF-171 super packs, VF-4.. now another Fire Valk to use with the sound booster, and another VF-19F... Maybe I really should cancel something until later on.. I mean, the VF-19P and VF-17D are preordered from AmiAmi, and will probably wind up on discount this coming year.. so hm.

Woo, got my second VF-19F, so Emerald Force is complete. Also, I finally just decided to get a second Fire Valk with the sound booster. I'm not much for battroid displays, but if anything warrants having a second one to display that way, that's probably it. I just love that VF-19 mold so much, even in crazy colors.

So the question is.. Are they going to pull a Shyamalan on us, and have some amazing secret revealed... or will they pull a reverse Shyamalan, and have the big reveal be that nothing out of the ordinary actually happened? I can easily see them working in some ridiculous environmental junk, saying humans tried to restore Earth to some prior state, it blew up in their faces, and humans fell to the bottom of the food chain. They probably tried to fix global warming or something. I want to see an ending where it turns out that this actually happened a few tens or hundreds of thousands of years ago, that they, and whatever rescue team winds up crashing trying to save them, wind up being the first humans to settle Earth. Basically, pulling a BSG on us. Then, at the end, they show some ship full of super-advanced humans watching from a flying saucer at all the progress they made. Then they reveal the REAL reason Earth is quarantined, and it turns out to be something like cancer, or AIDS, which only naturally occurs on this planet.

I'm kind of counting on one. In the meantime, I've begun sanding and cutting away chunks of my old YF-19 junker (arms were completely trashed out of the box). So far, I've come up with something that makes the nose look a little better, and helps minimize the gullet look, but it'll take some scratchbuilding before it's done.

Star Trek's timeline is like one of those joke puzzle knots you give someone that's supposed to take them years to unravel. It's not worth even trying to explain it.- 1020 replies

Considering I'm not even going to be around for nearly a week after New Years, I'm not too concerned. I'll just pick it up with the rest of my mail when I get back. Maybe if I get really lucky I'll have a VF-19P and VF-17D waiting too, but I'm not expecting those until later in January.

Cue "Information High." Looks like they're taking her for a spin on the Truman soon. Just hope they avoid any heavy thunderstorms. http://www.navair.na...wsStory&id=5199 -
Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim'
Chronocidal replied to fifbeat's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As relatively awesome as that trailer is, I personally want to walk into hollywood and pistol whip the next dipshit who thinks intakes are gunports, and decides to mount twin machine guns in them. For all that giant robot coolness, that's just painfully facepalm-worthy. They did it in Avengers and that one Die Hard movie with the JSF, and somehow, the idea that that's how airplanes and modern gatling guns work keeps hanging on. Is it really too much to ask for ANY movie to give a nice solid "BRRRRVVVT" when a fighter fires a gun? Honestly, it would be so much more impressive if they used the actual sounds. An A-10 unloading it's gun is one of those sounds that people need to learn to be afraid of. Aside from that though.. I want to like the idea, but it feels like this could turn into G-Gundam VS Godzilla. The idea of a neural interface for a fighting robot makes plenty of sense, but if you've got two people, won't that be like trying to network PC and Mac computers together and trying to run a piece of software built for Linux? Wouldn't it make more sense to leave one person in charge of managing all the other important bits making the thing run? I just don't see how linking two people at the brain stem would ever help anything.- 1207 replies

Eh, it is kinda sad not to see Roy, but that would probably downplay Hikaru's role in the plot. Of course, he could just wind up being an unlockable you find later. Though, maybe they thought having Roy AND Ozma in one place might get a little too over the top. That trailer though.. .i think I had a braingasm. I mean, I figured it would be more like the standard missions in the PSP games, but this is looking more like a setup for some kind of Macross MMO. I mean.. I wouldn't think they'd ever attempt something quite that big in scale, but still, it looks like they might be trying to set it up for onine play. Either way the whole RPG factor could make this one really entertaining, even without understanding it. Though, maybe it's time to bite that bullet and try to learn more Japanese.. Actually what it really reminds me of right now? Phantasy Star Online 2. The enemies, battroid action, and such, it just looks similarly paced. The idea of treasure hunting for upgrades and materials just adds to that comparison. Also, definitely saw Max's VF-22 in there, and if Guld's voice was heard, I wonder if we'll get the 21 too.

Don't worry, I'm well aware. I have have a few built, and a closet full of unbuilt ones to make in various modes. What I mean is that I'd happily shell out for a kit version or two, as opposed to playing Bandai Distributor Roulette trying to get one of these things.

They might be able to hold a VF-1, but keep in mind.. those are meant for styrene kits, which are much lighter than any Yamato valk. They might be strong enough to support it, but they're not meant for it. If I remember right, those stands really don't attach to anything on a valk. They just give you something to sit them on that's above the ground. If anything, they might have ledges or hooks that the wings might rest their trailing edges in, but I wouldn't bet they'd be sized correctly for Yamato's wings to attach to.
-
Honestly, I just want a 1/72 kit. As cheap and fun as the 1/100 ones are, they just don't match anything else. On the other hand, at least those keep getting made.
