  1. Yeah, thing about SP attacks is that since you can't control yourself once you activate one, they give you limited invulnerability. That goes for enemies too, so your best bet is to use a valk with a long combo so you can outlast them. Soon as you hear the "CHING" sound of one activated, hit your own.
  2. I have to admit, once I get the DX YF-29 and it's super packs, I'm going to be tempted to strip it down and repaint it as either Isamu's version, or that bluish-gray low-vis camo. The plane is just beautiful that way. The gaudy paint schemes they've got the YF-29 toys in don't do anything for me, but I would shell out easily to pick up some game-based repaints. Or heck.. maybe I can dream, and Hasegawa will milk the deal to make 1/72 VF-25s into making a 1/48 YF-29 kit.
  3. Not as nerdy as you might think. I love HLJ's sturdy shipping boxes, so I've got a generous supply of them "folded away" myself right now. Next time I move, people are going to think I came from Japan.
  4. Actually, unlocking that race can be the tricky part, since anything past race 3 you have to unlock by completing another quest. I don't remember unlocking the races being a problem, because I completed them without realizing it, but going and looking for them is another step in the process.
  5. Something of that magnitude, I don't know. Depending on scale, it'd be orders of magnitude more involved than something like what Experten makes. The sheer number of parts to make might make it impractical using anything besides actual injection molds.
  6. Depending on the target, this may not even matter.. After maxing out the gunpod stats, I can often kill stuff with it before I get close enough to even get a missile lock. Just might take a little manual aiming.
  7. Sounds pretty similar to BBTS sadly. I had a preorder in on the very first day for the second run of the original YF-29... It never happened. They never updated, never gave any info, and just kept pushing the listed release date back. I wound up cancelling that order when NY opened up orders for the second run of the 30th anniversary release. I probably had my order in there a good 9 months, with no information from them at all. Hope Hobby Fan doesn't wind up in the same boat.
  8. The only downside to this one is that giant bulky missile pod. Aside from that, it looks really similar to the SV-51. Nose folds under the cockpit and backwards, the legs seem to actually stay in place while the pelvis rotates down, meaning we might have a full-on waist joint. The arms seem kind of unnecessarily complicated though. They lay along side the legs like the SV-51, but that angled fin-shaped panel on the forearm is actually a piece of the underside of the wing. There's a few folding panels that open up, and the arms bury themselves in the wing root.
  9. Actually, I think I'm gonna see about converting one to actual blue angels markings. I dunno if I'll get too fancy, but I kinda want to see how hard that would be to do. I might just buy some pinstriping tape, and make the markings with that to see what will potentially scratch.
  10. I think once you unlock all of the rank 3 valks, it just comes down to personal preference, because unless I'm mistaken, maxing out any valk to 999,999 will result in identical base stats. It just comes down to preferences for what weapons you want to use. Personally, I like having reaction weapons around for area of effect shots on bigger targets, but the number of things that they're useful on is pretty limited. I do prefer using multi-missiles to the rapid fire ones though, just for coverage. As far as looks, I just love using Isamu's YF-29. The beam gun turret packs a lot more punch than any head laser, and you can pretty much fire it from any direction as long as your target is above you.
  11. If you're looking for single drop in those blue spots, make sure to look high and low for them. They can appear at all levels of the map, and you might find them on the floating stones, or upper levels of some spots. I remember seeing at least one or two on the rocks floating around that big tree, as well as one high up on the trunk.
  12. Actually, I kind of expect that some of the models are reused from the PSP games. Most aren't bad, but a couple models are really jagged in terms of modeling. The YF-29 in particular has engine pods that are nearly square, and don't match up with the rest of the graphics very well. Not that you notice it during gameplay though. And really, they may have purposefully kept the models very low polygon to help increase game performance. But still.. the YF-29's engine pods are ugly.
  13. Man, you people are sharp.
  14. Actually now that I think of it, I wonder if any MiG-29s paint their intake slats that way. They're the only plane I know of off the top of my head with built in mechanical covers.
  15. This is just my personal preference, but as far as replacement parts go, I do prefer plastic to resin, if only because I'm more experienced with it. I really do need to start fiddling with making some stuff again, I've been wanting to make a properly sized VF-25G sniper pod, and rebuild the nose on my YF-19.
  16. Actually, I do leave mine on anyway as well, but if there were any valks I would really prefer to have them removable, it's the VF-19s. See, with the P they're gray, and even on the F they aren't so bad, but the bright yellow intake covers on the Fire Valk and VF-19S are eyesores. I mean, I think until the point that we got to the Fire Valk, every fighter in the entire Macross continuity had used grayish intake covers (not sure on the YF-21). With the Fire Valk itself, ok, the intakes are bright yellow.. it goes with the rest of the plane. But when we got to the VF-19S and F, either the animators got lazy and forgot to change up the color schemes, or someone decided, "Let's just ditch the idea that these are mechanical parts, and paint them in gloss colors!" I would throw painted intake covers in the same category as painting the engine nozzle of a plane bright gloss colors. Sure, you can do it, but the paint is going to be destroyed entirely by standard operating wear and tear. I was always under the impression that intake covers were bare metal, or whatever kind of composite material they might use. They certainly looked that way on the up-close shots of the VF-0. I don't want removable intake covers on the VF-19s so I can see inside the engines.. I want to remove them because they're freaking ugly.
  17. Well, I'm not counting the YF-19 yet. I picked up two of each of the VF-19 releases, and might do a little customization on one of the VF-19Ps and one of the Ss.
  18. Sheesh, I didn't realize the S was so cheap at HKC Bleh.. couldn't resist getting another one. Up to 8 total now.

    Macross 30

Yeah, finishing the first playthrough unlocks a ton of characters, and their valks (or other mechs in the case of a few characters). After the first play through, you can play as whoever you want, and fill your group with whoever you want, flying whatever you want, carrying whatever singer you want.* Plot relevant messages will still come from the correct characters though, and on occasion, you might not have access to one or more of the main characters depending on the plot. *Basara is a special case. He will only fly the Fire Valk, and he's the only pilot who can fly it. He can however ride in your backseat in whatever valk you want to fly as someone else.

I'm pretty sure I saw one on the NA store as well, though the screen I saw might just be showing me things related to games I've played.
  21. Yep, items have to be in your 30 slot personal inventory to register as being collected for quests. Generally, what you want to do when you go quest hunting.. clear out your inventory entirely (could still hold a stack of repair kits and an ammo box stack for emergencies if you need). Then fill it with any item you can fit from the second from the right tab in your hangar storage. Any item that's a box with an exclamation mark is usually something you'll be able to turn in somewhere, so I would just load up my inventory with those. Once you're done loading up, go back to the control room (the hangar menu option right above the "launch" button) and press triangle to look at your quest list. If you suddenly see a bunch of items collected, or quests just now completed, there you go. If you've got too many items to fit in your inventory at once, just cycle back and forth and pull other ones out to check. I've never really had that many quest drops to hold onto at once though. What I did notice though, is that there are certain drops that you can pick up a metric buttload of. I kept trying to deposit one drop I got, then realized that there were already 255 of them in my storage. So yeah, anything you have that many of is probably safe to sell off for quick cash.
  22. All of them, sadly. They all reset once you restart, and many only unlock again after you complete earlier ones. It's a really borked up mechanic honestly, since all the quests that give you blueprints will let you go about completing them time after time, but never register that you already have the rewards. Really, I'm mostly hoping this game makes way for more PS3 titles in the same vein, but with a better thought out replay mechanic. While part of me would love to see an Ace Combat style game in this engine, with individual missions that can be replayed, it doesn't work well with the narrative and open world in this game. What this game reminds me of is almost like single player mmo, similar to what the original .hack games were like. Linear story, rpg progression and stats, treasure hunting for crafting materials and higher level equipment, and you've got a party that you level up to fight alongside. If they opened up the world a little more, I'd love to see what they could do with a sequel that allowed multiplayer, and added some more standard mmo-ish features, like repeatable missions, and more random "boss" spawns, like those capital ships. It'd be fun to see some more close-quarters fights too.. the caves were interesting, but I'm thinking of stuff like using battroid and running around in a zentraedi ship, having to duck around corners, open doors, interact with things on that scale, etc. Even the most cramped spaces in this game are plenty big for gerwalk mode.
  23. Actually.. that one might be in one of the caves/ruins/bases. Check the name of the quest, and compare it to your map. Usually if you get a green quest that doesn't give you any location hints with icons, it'll be inside somewhere.
  24. Actually... no, I've been seriously considering that. I can't make it match the VF-19, but I can go a long way to fix the gullet by just replacing three or four parts. Basically, just altering the angle the nose sits at in fighter can do it.
