Yeah, LAX is really slacking on the whole import thing. It's why I usually shell out for FedEx if I can, since they don't generally go through there.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Keeping the kite separate from the background gives a solid background for consistent color. If it was printed in one decal, you might see changes in the paint underneath through the kite. Although, I think on the decal sets I have, you have a separate complete kite logo with a white background to go under it, which makes more sense. Putting a white background behind a decal brightens up the decal, and helps it appear the correct color. That's actually what Bandai needed to do for all their decals. The VF/25 decals were horribly printed, and transparent. Ozma's yellow markings were especially bad. Having some sort of a solid white backing would have actually made them infinitely better. Instead, we had nasty looking transparent decals that picked up every color underneath them. Anyway.. every time I look at those pictures, a little voice keeps yelling at me and reminding me how incredibly tiny all those parts will be. Plus.. Have to say, it looks like they screwed up the knee covers. Judging by that picture of the leg folded down, they've got the knee attached and hinged just like a VF-25's, which I don't think it was. Might be the only way they thought they could do it in this size I guess, but they look funny that way. -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Yeah, the VF-25 kits are still a decent price for what you get, and there seems to be absolutely no shortage of those at all. I'm stocked up well on all the versions, but I keep coming up with reasons I want to buy more, just to attempt different building styles and methods. My handpainted one went pretty well as a first shot, but I actually do want to mask and spray the markings on another. I just can't see any reason to use the decals unless I have to though, they're horribly annoying, and in some cases, just wrong. I just hope the decals for this VF-1 blow the VF-25 ones out of the water. Of course.. if all else fails, I could steal a set from a Hasegawa kit. -
Well, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, you have a wife who got interested in Macross enough to buy and build a valk kit. Really, my interest in the 1/60s is entirely tied to the kits. I want to build the kits in a single mode, and not feel any regret for doing it. Long as I have one I can transform, I don't mind having the kits locked in specific modes forever.

Well, he kinda was the fourth horseman. I bought my DYRL and TV Kakis a long time ago though from an HLJ sale. They had the Max and Kakizaki 1A strike bundles for about half off, so I couldn't resist. Then my Vermillion squad felt unbalanced, so I grabbed the TV one too.

Actually? To be honest, if you're just going to keep the plane in fighter mode, the V.1 isn't that bad. The packs help cover up the ugly pretty well, which is why I still have my Alto and Michael V.1s. And considering how often Luca actually transformed (or did anything himself ) it's pretty fitting anyway.

I've been tempted to do the same thing, but I resigned myself to wait until they begin to wear off on their own. Anyway, I believe the ink used in tampo prints is similar to water based acrylic paint. I remember someone commenting on this when they went to remove the rainbow coating from a VF-1 canopy. They suggested using something like Tamiya acrylic thinner, or possibly windex, but warned that it will remove the black paint from the canopy frame as well. I can't say what the exact chemical is that will remove the tampo prints though, someone else may be able to give more details. On the other hand, if you really tried, you could probably remove the markings with your fingernail.

You won't miss the super packs, don't worry. They're pretty much guaranteed to be an online exclusive, so you'll see people pointing out shops that'll order them as soon as the announcement goes up.

Possibly, but I don't see a way the lower fin and upper dish could clip onto the existing figure without interfering with the transformation. Also, the RVF had green strips, where Alto's had red. If there's one thing Bandai will be sure to do it's reissue the entire thing with its own individualized super packs, because they can't have you mixing and matching pieces that you didn't buy separately.

HKC took a while to ship out the last VF-19S I ordered, but it's definitely sitting in LAX customs right now (and has been since the weekend ). Seems like they can take a few days, but I wouldn't start worrying.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Yeah, I'm really amazed they're already selling stuff when they haven't even finalized any designs. -
Well, even if it was bankruptcy for certain, does that have any definite impact on whether Arcadia can pick up the molds and licenses to keep producing them?

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Of course they did, but Hasegawa ALWAYS does that, with pretty much every aircraft. It's because they also have separate weapons packs that are meant to apply to pretty much every aircraft kit they produce, and it saves on tooling when you don't have to pack weapons into the same molds. With the Hasegawa VF-1 kits, you couldn't transform them, so the fast pack versions came as separate releases. The VF-1 weapons sets came with all the weapons, and applied to any release (though cheaping out and only including pilots with those sets was lousy). This is more "We don't want you to be able to do anything fun unless you buy the extras," similar to the VF-171 wing hardpoint shenanigans. Not only are they not including any standard weapons besides the gunpod with the normal kit, but they're throwing in the atmospheric fighter weapons with the fast pack add-on, when they have nothing to do with each other. I bet you the hardpointed wings only come with the fast packs, too. And on top of that the fast packs are fugly. Makes me think they're aware of this, and are packing all the missiles with them to see if they can force people to buy them anyway. -

Oh, those dipwads... that's utter bs. They don't include any of the weapons with the normal kit.. they all come with the fast packs. Even the A/A missiles not used with the fast packs. Idiots. I might get one eventually, but considering how many Yamato 1/60 kits I have already, I don't see much of a reason. Plus, you don't get any missiles at all unless you buy their malformed little fast pack add-on. -
So what will be the first Arcadia branded Macross offering?
Chronocidal replied to jvmacross's topic in Toys
Preorders for what, the 1/72 VF-1 kits? I wouldn't worry. Unlike the DX line, Bandai plastic kits seem to have no end to their production lines, and are no where near as heavily in demand because of the work involved in building them. -
Kind of painful to think about, but I really am considering completely stripping and repainting this 30th schemed YF-29. It'll depend on how much of the color is molded in, I guess, but I kind of wish I could have gotten two so I didn't feel so hesitant to customize one. The thing is, most of the custom schemes just look sooo much better than the official ones. Even if I never repaint it, I feel like stripping it down to bare plastic would be an improvement.

Grats on an absolute steal! That may very well have been the very last one they had at Overdrive, since the product listing is entirely gone now. I would've picked one more up from there myself if I'd trusted them, but oh well. -
NY just sent me a shipping notice, so it's on the way! Can't wait for the packs though... think they really improve the wing design.

You know, I know a couple people playing that, and I got really unnerved by some of the more graphic ways she can die. I'm guessing some were just worst case scenarios, but how often did you find that kind of thing happening in the game?- 6890 replies

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
Chronocidal replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Wow, that was fast! Well, unlike the typical Bandai DX releases, I have no trouble believing the kits will be available for a long time. I don't know how many production runs of the VF-25 kits have gone through Bandai, but aside from the occasional time they run out and have to restock, those are still easily available from HLJ on a fairly consistent basis. Do think it's pretty audacious of them to put up sales using CAD renders though. I mean, do they not even have a finished prototype mold yet? -
No trouble, but yeah, making the pieces long enough to balance out the valks like that would do two things... Make the stand adapters much more expensive, and make it really hard to use any gunpods unless you make the forward leg of the adapter pretty tall and unwieldly. I'd really rather just make a new type of cradle adapter that would latch onto the metal backplate on the VF-19, and leave room for the gunpod. The extended adapter idea would work great for the VF-17 though, there's nothing to get in the way. As far as the stands mounting an armored VF-25S though, are you talking about the 1/72 kits, or the 1/60 DX? There's no reason to use the kit stands for the DX, since it comes with its own, and the armored VF-25 kits came with an included action base 1, so they'd better work to support it.

Well if you collapse the outer boxes, and stack the similar trays, you could probably get a ton of VF-1 boxes into a small space. I might have to do that soon.

I still want that Klan 25S in red that we saw somewhere. Think it was just a model, but I would love to pair her up with Michael's 25G.

Actually, I'm betting it's a reference to receiving her cybernetic body. If it's her first, she might be doing the whole "I can't feel my face" thing that happens at the dentist, because she's suddenly going to be missing a lot of natural nerve endings, and stuff will just feel weird. On the other hand, if it's actually a depiction of receiving a military-grade body, the reverse could be happening, where she's suddenly amazed at how much she can feel. I remember there being a few conversations during some episodes of SAC about how advanced The Major's body actually was in terms of sensory receptors. They were talking in terms of receptors per square inch, so I get the feeling (hah) that the basic bodies most people would be able to afford would be simplified a great deal to only deliver sensory input that was absolutely essential. Stuff like hands and feet would work, but secondary things like your face might take a back seat, and give only the bare minimum response.

It might be just me, or just the way the style has changed in general..but I'm not going to be able to resist calling him Aramonkey. I think it's the beady eyes they gave him. They just look a little too small to me... Or maybe they're just dwarfed by his forehead (in this case.. I'd almost bump it right past fivehead to sixhead ). Not impressed by the music, but it's not terrible or anything. Yoko Kanno and ORIGA is just an incredibly hard act to follow.
