  1. I'll admit that this may have more to do with the style of character art the series always used, but when you consider that there are some characters that are absolutely drawn to look distinctly of Asian descent, I don't think the Major has ever really looked Japanese to begin with, by comparison. I'll reserve any kind of judgment until more material is shown, but I'm curious to see how they'll treat the storyline, and which particular story arc they'll focus on.
  2. Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I did a combination of a drop of super glue on the inner surface of the joint and moving it while it dried, and then gripping lightly with pliers over the rivet. I don't move them that often, so the joints have remained tight so far.
  3. I'm still torn, because I've got two original VF-0S copies, one that was a bit of a fixer-upper purchased from someone here. I might be convinced to pick up a new Roy, and sell that one cheaply.. I had intended to turn it into a VF-0C with Kurisama's kit, but with an actual 0D being released, I don't have so much motivation anymore.
  4. I can vouch for the pliers method as well, I think I used some with a smooth internal surface, so it didn't make any marks on the metal.
  5. If I remember correctly, the story about the F-8 landing with folded wings was a bit more than just landing. Story I recall had him catapulting off the deck, getting a call that his wings were folded, realizing he'd taken off without unfolding them, and then circling around to land again. Area 88 kinda took that and ran with it, having him folding and unfolding them while in flight.
  6. I'm probably going to cut my set of YF-29s down to one of each eventually. I had ordered doubles of the 30th and Isamu editions to possibly customize, but I just lost interest over time. And all the versions look boring compared to Ozma anyway.
  7. Is it bad that I actually want to buy this one to kitbash better colored lenses and canopy onto other YF-29s?
  8. Now, THAT is good news. Will give me an excuse to pick up 12 more 1/48th X-wings, and make the entire Bacta War Rogue squadron. ...Ok, probably not all of them, that would cost a ton. But 3 or 4 is pretty doable. Any estimated date on when they'll start hitting US retail shelves?
  9. The original VF-0 releases did have the seats rotate, along with the instrument panel. I don't imagine that'd really be very doable on the two-seater cockpit though. Haven't seen yet if the updated A/S still have the rotating seat.
  10. Really, $170 for a strike VF-1 sounds like a steal, I remember paying that much when they first came out.
  11. You know something funny though... I think I much prefer the original thigh joint design. Once they got past the material issues, that double extending joint was just awesome for deep gerwalk poses.
  12. Quote function doesn't seem to be working for me for some reason.. Maybe I should say, while there are a few details that look different, I personally don't see them as anything noteworthy to the design that would make me want to buy another one. The changes are things that 99% of people who ever see the design would probably never even notice. I'm glad people will be able to get new ones with more sturdy construction, but I don't think I can justify the purchase when it's just going to make me want to shove the old one in the closet, or sell it and never get back what I put into it. If they go on clearance, or offer up a new color, I might grab one, but I think the 0D will satisfy my curiosity about the new mold.
  13. I really do hope any potential armor would still work on the originals, since I really don't think I can justify getting new copies of the good VF-0s I have. They look nice and all, but there's really no improvement in looks, just in function, and they'll likely stay in fighter mode anyway.
  14. That white and pink/purple VF-27 is a thing of beauty... dunno if I would pick up a pink 19 though. I'm really interested to see what kind of engineering Bandai does on this thing. The pics we've seen have me a little concerned it's going to be another case of "let's use ten tiny pieces to do the job of one" like they did on the 171. And I really hope they ditch the metallic plastic for joints..
  15. I got my fill of sound effects and motorized nonsense on that old pro-shop x-wing disaster. I just want the plastic, at half that price, which is what I paid for my pair of Fine Molds kits. Now, if they could make a 1/32 version that crams all the electronic crap inside the model, I'd probably bite. This would just be one more 1/48th version, complete with a typically huge and unwieldly Bandai stand that my shelf has no space for.
  16. HLJ just put up the pre-order link for the 1/48th X-wing.... not enough nopes in the galaxy. http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN996419 Freakin Bandai... 9800 yen for another kit full of electronic nonsense. What is so hard about releasing a plain kit?
  17. I still want a caliburn or active version.
  18. I'm hoping it makes it before my Mave ships too, would love to get them together, but that one's hitting close to 50 days already.
  19. Oh, one big question, how did you get the shoulders detached? I never really tried to force them apart, they looked like I would break something.
  20. Congrats on getting one in good condition! I actually think the old YF-19 is more fun to transform, and I still prefer the sliding tails to the Arcadia version. I held off buying a YF-19 as long as I could, until I had the YF-21 and VF-11B, because I kept hoping Yamato would come out with a fix for the gullet.. the arched back on the old one always bugged me a ton. Aside from that though, I do miss the old ankles, and I always found it handy to be able to disassemble the entire thing so easily. At some point, I actually just gave up and decided to start cutting into it, figuring I didn't want to buy another one of that mold. I almost wound up regretting cutting into the only one I had, but the Arcadia one came and solved that little problem. I haven't finished this mod, since Arcadia YF-19 made it seem pointless, but it is possible to re-align the nose section a little to make the fuselage look a little more streamlined. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=38775#entry1030036 It'd be a pretty significant mod to complete, with some painting (and paint matching) to get it looking right, but I loved the effect it had on the overall shape of the plane, even if it didn't quite fix the bulky gullet. If you choose to try and mod yours, good luck! But either way, it's not a terrible design, it just shows its age when compared to the newer VF-19 molds. Getting a late stock release is your best bet, the early ones seemed to suffer from some of the same terrible plastic as the early VF-0 releases. The shoulders on mine exploded in a similar manner, and they are barely held together by a super glue coating now.
  21. If I knew I could leave the rest of the markings untouched, I'd get one to rub the Sheryl decal off, but it'd probably ruin all the normal colored panels underneath. That picture might be the worst one of her I know of.
  22. I have to point out that, given the situations most of the characters have found themselves in from time to time, the title itself is clearly a lie.
  23. I've occasionally had that happen on various valks, I know the foot thruster vents have slipped out of place on more than one of my VF-1s. It's just a lack of glue, or glue that came loose really, should be easy to clean the mount and re-glue it.
  24. Yeeeeahhhh.. Bandai's engineers make me want to cry. The interlocks make it almost impossible to get the legs twisted back to fighter mode. Moreso, the legs will not untwist unless they are also UN-BENT at the knee. The only way to do it properly is to bend the legs down at the thigh, straighten the knee completely, and THEN you can collapse the joint and un-twist the legs. There's enough slippage in the mechanism to twist them coming out of fighter with a slight bend in the knee, but they won't go back unless the knee is entirely straight. Whether that process is mentioned in the instructions in Japanese, I can't say, but the entire interlocking design is just a terrible idea to begin with.
