  1. Wow.. yeah, those are some massive gorilla hands there. Otherwise, I can't wait to build a few of them. The 31 really didn't do it for me, but I can see myself grabbing a bunch of the 262s.
  2. Quick update, interceptors got delivered this morning, and I've already snapped them together, A-wings just arrived, so I'll dig into them soon too. Interceptor kits are almost identical to the normal Ties with different wing assemblies, but there are a few small differences in detail. I was half expecting them to mold the entire panels in one go again like they did for Vader's Tie, but nope, these are assembled out of a framework and panels, more like the normal Tie kits. Little more complicated, and a few minor seams, but you don't have to paint over the multi colored sprue marks like on Vader's. The feature I really do like though is that they've included an alternate stand mounting adapter. It's a simple hex mount that'll let you plug the stand into the rear of the ball, rather than directly underneath, and the ships just look much more natural mounted that way. The mount works exactly the same for the older Tie kits, so now I'm wondering if I can shapeways myself some copies of that new adapter to use with those kits now. Edit: Update #2, put together one of the A-wings, and it's a beautiful little kit. I'm calling complete shenanigans on the scale though. That old "9.6m" number for the length? No way is that even remotely close. The numbers work out for the kit to be the proper length, but the pilot is scaled somewhere between 1/48th and 1/60th. He absolutely dwarfs the 1/72 X-wing pilots. I just think no one actually ever bothered to correctly scale the ship in the first place, so it's a little late at this point. Also, yes, the turret is clearly intended to go with something in a much smaller scale. To be around 1/72nd, the actual turret part of the gun tower should have been the full size of the baseplate it's mounted on. Still nicely detailed, but it looks quite silly next to the ship kits.
  3. I'd guess it's very unlikely? The main attachment on the Bandai hardpoints seems to be the pylons clipping in, with the pegs not really serving as much support. With a little work to the pylons, you might be able to get those weapons to peg in (and they might stay reasonably well with just the pegs even), but I don't know how difficult it would be, or how much reshaping it would take to get the pylons to clip securely.
  4. Don't know what anyone else is doing, but I'm planning on building a pair each of Tie Interceptors and A-Wings tomorrow when they get delivered.
  5. Not to dig up an old thread, but I recently acquired some spare parts, and did some surgery on my 171s to get them back into one piece. I'd had both of them sitting taken apart while I tried to solve the various issues. So, after fiddling around with the shoulder assemblies, I'm betting that a lot of the broken upper triangles really were just due to the assembly lines either skipping a step for efficiency, or doing things out of order. You can assemble the shoulder parts in a couple different ways, depending on what steps you do first. Ideally? You'd sandwich the NUNS triangles around the metal shoulder, screw it together, then tab the shoulder pauldrons into place, and screw them together too. That's about as low-stress as you can get. On the other hand, let's say you already screwed/glued the pauldron halves together (which is basically the condition anyone with broken triangles is in trying to replace them, unless you can successfully disassemble the pauldrons). Now you've got two options. 1. Clip the NUNS triangles into the pauldrons, and screw them together, then snap the assembly over the shoulder joint. 2. Clip the NUNS triangles into the pauldrons, snap the assembly over the shoulder joint, and then screw the NUNS triangles together. I get the feeling that a lot of the assembly line workers took option 1, or otherwise attempted to clip the NUNS triangles over the shoulders after they were already screwed together tightly, resulting in stress fractures near the screw when they were forcibly spread around the shoulder. So, if you're having to repair or replace the NUNS triangles, try not to snap them over the shoulder while they're glued or screwed together tightly (Shapeways replacements might handle this stress better though, so it might not matter as much). The way I got mine back together was to 1) clip the two halves of the triangles into the pauldrons (without screwing them together), 2) rotating them to the battroid position to hold them in place, 3) clipping the triangles back over the shoulders, and 4) only screwing the triangles together after the shoulders were correctly clipped on. I may have screwed the triangles half-way to keep the halves aligned, but they were loose enough to easily slip over the shoulder.
  6. I don't think you can really rule anyone out that simply, just because "post Space War 1" is so vague. There's no telling when this study even occurred. Given the events of Macross 7, and Millia's political position? It would have been really easy for her to pull whatever strings she wanted to get such a study done. And given that music had just flat out saved the Macross 7 fleet, and possibly the universe in its entirety, it would have been extremely appropriate for her to do so. However it goes though, I expect this is just going to wind up being another audience troll like the Minmay locket in Frontier. Who this mysterious Lady M is may not matter any more than the details of who Ranka's mother was. Was she important? Sure. Did she contribute anything to the plot besides being a background figure partly responsible for the situation? Not really. I think ever since the original series, the people behind Macross have been well aware of just how desperate the fans are for any tidbits about how their favorite characters ended up years later, and they will use this sort of teasing to milk the fans for all the hype they can get.
  7. I remember seeing "Shattered Glass" with him in the main role, and to be honest, he did seem like he was playing the exact same character. On the flip side of that though, that film received fairly good reviews, and the whiny Anakin persona just seemed much more appropriate for that role. The two films were released about a year apart, so who knows if the roles leaked into each other, or Hayden just can't play anything else.
  8. Sadly the F got shortchanged on production runs, since it seemed the excitement had been run out with the 19S and Fire Valk. I'm torn between the 19F and the 19P for my favorite of that mold.
  9. Captain Kirk: "Here, let me show you something from my home planet.." Alien Woman of the Week: "Eww, stop it, what are you doing? Get that out of my nose!" When you think of what the runes are for, assuming they're primarily like a sixth sense sort of fold-wave receptor organ, I mean...yeah, they're most likely big, dense clusters of pure nerve tissue. So yeah, they're going to be really sensitive. Considering that the pilots' helmets don't seem to have much of an effect on them, I'm surprised they don't just cover them entirely.
  10. I'd love if we could get a YF-30 model kit and make a kitbash of the two designs. VF-31 overall, but with the YF-30's legs and spine/pod connection. My only real gripe with the YF-30 was always the tails though.. they just kinda suck all around (and around, and around.. ). Would love to see it reworked to use the 31's tails.
  11. Yep, that's been my source for all those kits since HLJ stopped carrying them. The prices just tend to fluctuate quite a bit, everything from $20-$40 depending on how the wind blows.
  12. Hands are likely just fixed-pose swap outs for battroid. I don't think any of Bandai's 1/72 kits have had perfect transformation hands.
  13. Oh sweet! Yep, I'm going to just say screw it to the high prices and pick up a few of those A-wings and Ties this month. Can't wait to build some of them.
  14. Looks like the F-Toys one might be based on the Hasegawa 1/72 VF-1 mold? Just the general proportions seem very similar, but that lower leg droop angle is really familiar. The Tomytec one definitely is wider, but I think it works on the design. Might be due to the proportions needed to make the parts swappable into a battroid configuration too.
  15. I'm going to wait for the 1/144 Tomytec kits to get in stock, then ship the lot of them. Really looking forward to the Draken though, love the design. Also really hope we get the CF version later on, it just looks cleaner without the toothy wings.
  16. Hey, it only took a grenade in the right place for Luke to take one out singlehandedly. Personally, I never understood why they didn't just make the darn things hover like pretty much every other vehicle in the entire universe. Even if the legs were more useful for uneven terrain (for some nonsensical in-universe reason), the least you could do is throw in a backup system for if they happened to trip and fall over.
  17. Love those little Y-wing kits to death, tiny parts and all. They just feel better engineered to me than the 1/72 X-wings, especially in terms of the colored parts breakdown. Planning a stock build, or going to customize it any? I accidentally "customized" one of mine when I pushed too hard on the little tubes coming out the back end, but each of the filming models was unique, and I don't think they all had those anyway.
  18. Fixed. I'll never ever understand why Bandai is so obsessed with designing such massive brackets to mount their valks on. You'd think someone at Bandai would be able to save them a ton of plastic by coming up with some sort of clip that just latches onto the valk.
  19. Given the way SW tech plays around with gravity, I always assumed that the internal decking of the Death Star could just be however was practical for the location. Surface-oriented at the surface (and probably down several decks worth) with the central docking area just being an oddity. And, while all the railing-less areas looked silly, they work a little better if you consider that there's no guarantee you'll actually fall if you step off those ledges.
  20. Have to say, I think I'm 100x more excited for this release than I am the 31, just because it's something new, and has less features that make me scratch my head.
  21. Assuming they don't get lost in a wormhole between China and here.
  22. I'm kind of worried it will turn into another Elite Dangerous... which I guess isn't all bad? But mindlessly exploring with no goal other than exploration, no real attempt at fun combat mechanics, and even less interaction with other players than ED sounds like it wouldn't last long at all. I've heard it compared somewhat with Minecraft (IN SPACE!), but without any of the creative aspects, since you can't actually build anything on any of those umpteen gajillion procedurally generated worlds. I might try it out, but for now it seems like an empty universe waiting for people to fill it in with something interesting to do... which will be really hard if there's pretty much no way to establish any kind of reference point to meet up with other players (and unless I read incorrectly, no real way to tell even the difference between an NPC and a human player). I think what kept my interest in ED as long as I played it was purely the fact that I enjoyed that someone had finally written a satisfying manual docking sequence into a space sim. The combat wasn't bad either, but for all the "things to do" in that universe, it just didn't feel like there was any motivation to do them. I hope NMS has enough of a central plot to avoid that.
  23. Bandai and Hasegawa both love their huge boxes. My Hasegawa 1/48th strike VF-1 box has 4 complete kits in it, with room for the weapons sets I have ordered. The Bandai kits though... in general, the parts for a VF-25 kit will fit into a sandwich baggie. My armored Ozma box has about 8 kits inside it (including 2 full armored VF-25s and 2 with super packs), with room to spare.
  24. Remember this is just the preorder though, and the main character on top of it. This one will probably wind up like Alto's with multiple releases. It's the other characters I'm concerned for.
  25. I could definitely get behind this. Have to second the "never transformed it" sentiment though, it's just so pretty in fighter mode. I can however say though, the wings on this one can get potentially floppy, just like the Arcadia's. Had one of mine go loose at the mid-point hinge, and the wing would just sag backwards. I was able to do the same rivet squeeze trick as on the Arcadia, but it takes a little more work. You need a flat post to press down on the underside of the rivet, and flatten it against the hinge, or you'll get no tension added. A small, flat-ended metal cylinder like a screw head might work, I actually used the shoulder pin from a Yammie v2 VF-1 I had laying around. It's just a little precarious using something too tall that could potentially slip out of the pliers.
