  1. Holy cow.. that's insanely huge and amazing, but I have no room for things that big yet, heheh. Still, would have loved one of those when TAS was going!

So, is this going to be coming with the strike cannon for mixing and matching, or just the missile packs?
  3. Hah, yeah, actually. I've mostly just been eyeing assorted F-14s, and their Black Friday coupon got me about $50 off that pair of them, so I wasn't going to pass that up. Thought the coupon was only good for in-stock items though?
  4. Bleh.. I got a 20% coupon for the shop I used, and caved on getting the Calibre VF-103 and Century VF-84 Cats. I might regret it if Calibre releases their own VF-84 one eventually, but who knows when that'll happen. Why are aircraft such crack...

Honestly? The only thing they really didn't do were landing gear, and the split toes, which I don't mind at all.
  6. I might have to try that trick with the Batwing I just got actually. It uses those same turntables for the engine rotations, which are an amazing solution for larger joints to get away from a single axle centerpoint. Thing is, they geared them to operate together and rotate using a small knob on the top side, but the rotation is pretty sloppy, so I might try and add some friction-pinned gears on the opposite side of the turntable. On the other hand, I'm also really tempted to re-engineer that set, and turn it into the old Batman TAS batwing, or some amalgamation of the two. That design is just a classic.
  7. Good.. Bandai can take it's convention exclusive BS and shove it. Will definitely order two sets of Mirage's packs.. I'm almost tempted to order three, just so I can load up Messer as well, but then what am I going to do with two spare sets of bright pinkish red packs? I would just paint them up for the VF-31As I have coming, but that would all but guarantee Bandai will release 31A supers, probably with missiles.

Having missed the Hikaru 1S, I think I'll have to bite on this one. Really impressed at how the 2SS looks though, almost entirely perfect transformation. Can't want to mess with one.
  9. Server upkeep cost could probably be somewhat mitigated if they'd go back to designing games to be run by third-party game services, or (*gasp*) even let players locally host their own sessions. Granted, you lose some control over the game that way, and have to just accept that people are going to be modding and tweaking their games into custom versions for their personal servers... but if you're abandoning using cash shop unlockable content, you really have nothing to lose financially. Also takes care of the problem of developing continued content for the most part, because dedicated enthusiasts can and will rebuild games from the ground up to add new features they want. Just in my personal experience, opening up games to community contribution would seem to be a huge boost for the game's sales, and prolong its life. Look at how much is still done with TF2, and other Source-based properties. Current cash grabby systems make me think of one of those parks with bumper cars, mini golf and batting cages. Yeah, they can be fun for a bit, but eventually people get bored renting equipment, and go home. People playing in a wide open sandbox that lets them bring their own toys are going to get inventive, spend a lot more time there, and probably bring friends.
  10. Arguably, look at the community on this forum. Spending $800 on toys is a pretty common occurrence, and arguably, you're going to get a lot more bang for your buck out of that set than you would out of the 4-5 Arcadia/Bandai valks you'd get out of the same investment. Plus, you can rebuild it into something else if the original design gets boring, and if something breaks or is missing, you don't have to make your own replacements with Shapeways. In other news, my local walmart had the Batman movie jet marked down to $70, so I caved, and I'm enjoying building it up. TONS of playability in this thing, and I love how it's giving me all kinds of classic Blacktron vibes.
  11. Why do I feel like they're still underestimating the demand terribly? At the rate they're trickling out, I don't think they're going to actually produce enough, even in two years. You still can't even order them online either. Why don't they just open up orders already and just let people take a number? I'd be more than happy to wait two years if I knew I had one guaranteed.
  12. They do however rotate for launching the missiles forward. Without them mounted, they snap back to the normal position in battroid. You can even see it in the episode where they use them, the shields rotate when the arms deploy, to keep the missiles facing forward.
  13. So, what it looks like they've done is unfolded each valk entirely, and managed to flip the legs around forward to actually tab into the wings and backplate of the valk ahead of them. I think it only works because the torso has so many sections that can unfold and reposition the hips.
  14. Turned out pretty well I think! Yeah, they're just so huge, and have to go over so many complex curved surfaces, it's kind of a miracle to get them to lay down well.
  15. The number of model-making tools and accessories you find in the beauty and makeup section of your local market is pretty surprising actually.
  16. The semi-amusing part of this entire debacle to me is that, as the whole lootbox scheme unravels, it's going to reveal just how ridiculously shallow the content in the game might actually be. If they're requiring months of playtime to unlock any new features, then the range of what players have access to for several months is going to be almost nil. Will the game even survive that lack of available content without people jump starting via microtransactions?
  17. Not to mention the holiday shopping season coming up... though often times, people use that as an excuse to splurge. I'm actually surprised the Arcadia could command such a high price in general, though are these just ebay listings that may not have sold anyway, or are they actual confirmed sales? Despite the funky wing mechanism, I have to wonder if the Arcadia is more popular because of all the extra weapons packed in that can be used on all the other Yamato/Arcadia valks.
  18. A bunch of friends of mine have been hooting and hollering about all the Battlefront hubbub all week, and it's making me smile how much traction the complaints are getting. The big thing is, EA is digging themselves deeper with every new update on the situation. One of their announcements changed the total number of achievement points to unlock the high end characters to about a quarter of what they used to be.... but hidden in the fine print was a notice that they similarly reduced the rewards, meaning nothing actually changed. Also, the entire game runs on a "You've been playing too much, so we're not giving you more loot until tomorrow" system. I don't know the specifics, but I've seen it mentioned that once you cap out for a day, it might be 14 hours until the game will let you do any more "work" toward unlocking things. It's really just exemplifying everything wrong with the game industry today, and I'm so happy to see EA taking it directly on the chin. Blizzard seems to be enjoying the opportunity to capitalize off of EA's stupidity though.
  19. So yeah, having built the Monogram kit, the seams are a pain. There are ways to mitigate that, but what you really need to do is chop the kit up to allow the wing to be installed after the fuselage is completed, and either way, you're going to probably wind up sanding the entire thing smooth. Far as the 1/72 Hasegawa kit goes, I've got one of those too, and it's a beautiful little kit, but I don't think there's ever been a retool of that kit with engraved details either. The one I have is a 90s reboxing of a kit that my dad also built in the late 70s. The only one I know for sure of with engraving is the Trumpeter 1/48th. Getting more back on the actual topic, the seams are also what kind of deters me from the Hobby Master one. It also has some odd curves to the nose section that make me think it's based directly off of the Hasegawa kit. I just need to get a fancier 3D printer, and I can start printing out the version I built for Microsoft Flight Sim.
  20. Yep, was just about to post the link there, was wondering which scale you plan to go for. Finding a 1/48th kit can be a little trickier, and the old Monogram mold can be a royal pain to finish due to the construction, but I think it's still preferred for accuracy over the Trumpeter release in some ways? Something about the landing gear, and certain cockpit details, I believe, and maybe the intake shape, but I'm not sure at the moment. I think a 1/72 kit would be a lot easier to complete anyway, and much easier to display, as the 106 is a pretty large plane. My dad grew up in Fresno watching the sixes come and go, so I grew up with his love for them ingrained in me, and I've built a couple myself, but the various kits all have their quirks.
  21. Possibly, but I'm hoping to limit myself to just one company so all the parts match up. I'm thinking I'll just wind up with two or three F-14s though. Any more than that, I'll have to start selling off valks.
  22. Ugh, I finally decided to splurge and pick up the Calibre Wings Wolfpack F-14.. and I worry I might be hooked on another collecting hobby. I do plan on getting the Ghostriders release in the next month or so as well, but now I'm considering grabbing one of the Robotech VF-1 versions too. Sadly, while the trays have room, they don't include all of the weapons options, and there's no release with white sparrow mounts for the wing gloves yet, it seems. I might have to wait for more late 70s schemes, and hope they put out a classic VF-84. Looking around at other brands, I almost want to pick up a Hobby Master CA ANG F-106, but the molding and seam lines on their design look pretty bad.
  23. The skull thing for me is purely 1980s F-14 nostalgia. It wasn't even just that squadron, since I grew up with literal VF-1 Wolfpack F-14 bedsheets, toys in old Sundowners markings, and a VF-84 Flying Fighters F-14 toy. What really cemented the VF-84 scheme in everyone's memory was probably The Final Countdown, but I have a major weakness for any of the old late 70s high-vis gray and white schemes. It's not even what I'd call my favorite scheme, it's probably just the most recognizable. Far as skulls go on their own though? I could mostly care less. If they aren't using the original skull design paired with black (and hopefully yellow), they just don't have that same impact. I was actually rather glad they gave the squadron a different name in Delta, and hope we get more varied group callsigns going forward.
  24. I honestly couldn't give two shakes about the paintscheme and logo, I think they should all go back to tail markings and be done with the spine-art. All I care about is Bandai FINALLY releasing something with some actual external ordinance that I could potentially mount on something, and they decided to lock it behind a freaking convention exclusive/lottery release.
