  1. That's still better than using their disaster of a search function though. I've yet to ever find a preorder link there when it goes up.
  2. Lately this happens whether you use bots or not, so what've you got to lose?
  3. Yeah, the 1J was tagged with "limited edition" because it came with the stand, so the link was slightly different. Anyway, far as posting links goes, I'm just being cautious about feeding the search bots too early. I did test the addresses, and nothing coming up yet, so either they'll be different again, or HLJ just doesn't post their pages until release time, which sounds like what I remember of them in the past.
  4. This is what it takes to find the HLJ links, ever since they screwed their site design to hell with web-design bloat. Also, I have an idea.. not posting it yet to keep the idea safe from scalpers. But thank you for pointing out the JAN number, that might be exactly what we need.
  5. So, I'm looking at HLJ's product pages.. is there some correlation between the number listed with Max's 1A and Bandai's product labels, or is that an internal reference for HLJ? Either way, it might be useful to attempt constructing possible page links ahead of time. https://hlj.com/dx-chogokin-vf-1a-valkyrie-maximilian-jenius-use-bans56722 So... something like: https://hlj.com/dx-chogokin-vf-1s-valkyrie-hikaru-ichijyo-use-bans##### Puts on a conspiracy theorist look Ok, so AmiAmi's links.. VF-1J: FIGURE-041234 VF-1A: FIGURE-047859 VF-1S: FIGURE-049315 HLJ's have been: https://hlj.com/1-48-scale-dx-chogokin-limited-edition-vf-1j-valkyrie-hikaru-ichijyo-type-bans55138 https://hlj.com/dx-chogokin-vf-1a-valkyrie-maximilian-jenius-use-bans56722 Not looking like the numbers are anywhere similar, sadly, but at least we know they'll probably spell it "ichijyo," and the address will probably be formatted very similarly. Maybe we can just start running numbers, and seeing if we get a hit.
  6. I didn't think they've said one way or another if they are or not. Nothing about the announcement says "Hikaru" or "VF-1S," just "Movie Edition VF-1." Realistically speaking though, it's much more likely they're doing a different release for every color variant. Ridiculous, and pointless, but it would go against their established operating procedure to do anything that makes that much sense. Would probably also piss off a lot of collectors years from now, when there was no way to know how many of these Bandai was going to produce.
  7. I think I'm ordering at least two of those super packs regardless, just so I can have a spare to make into something else down the road. If they come with all the marking roundels, I'll probably get four sets.. possibly five, if they include the plain kite.
  8. I don't actually know, but I do remember someone saying they're actually a different size/shape, and might damage the VF-1 hardpoints, so I wouldn't recommend trying it.
  9. The only thing consistent about Bandai's tampo markings is their utter inconsistency. I've actually always had the impression that they treat the various errors and omissions as ways that they differentiate their products from the other available versions. How many years did it take them to finally print the chest stripes on any VF-1 at the correct angles? I think one of the best things about getting these in 1/48 now is that they're finally in the proper scale to fix all the assorted Bandai-isms with Hasegawa decals. Far as the missiles go, I wonder how hard it would be to extend those pylons. I thought the YF-19's were bad, but the box launchers are just literal stubs, and there's no way any of those leave remotely enough room to drop the movable flaps, let alone the slotted fowler design the plane is supposed to actually use.
  10. Ok, the big glossy patch connecting the individual bullet hole decals kinda ruins the entire idea..
  11. Yeah, that blue is blinding in that quantity. It also makes no sense to have that much of the orange parts, which didn't originally match anyone's color scheme, suddenly changed to the primary highlight of the valk they're on. Arad's would just look bizarre as the only one in NERF-orange.
  12. This picture confuses me quite a bit.. are those figures partly cel-shaded?
  13. I actually kind of love all the ways they've morphed the original Jetfire/Skyfire into a mix of jet shapes that look semi-realistic, but still wind up giving you the non-copyright-infringing Skyfire bot. Far as actual Skyfire goes though, I still want to see someone make an RA-5 Vigilante version of him. The shape is about as close as you're ever going to get, and it's a perfectly boxy airframe for hiding all those bot parts. I still think the 262 is probably Kawamori's best design in a while though, and I love the aircraft origami that thing has to go through. I think what sets Macross designs apart is that a lot of them don't adhere to the boxy limb designs Transformers like to use. You can make all kinds of things fit into an aircraft if you don't mind making them weird rounded and contoured shapes. I still would love to see the way the Sv-154 (the F-104-looking one) transforms. I'm picturing the engine still being split in two, but I'm imagining the legs and arms each forming a quarter circle, which are layered down the fuselage, with the arms along the spine and belly, with the engines on the sides.
  14. This has always amused me from a realism standpoint actually, because real world weapons mounts work exactly that way, and all the markings are upside down on one half of the plane, because they aren't labeled in both directions. Of course, most real world weapons also don't have big logos like that that only face one direction. While I don't really mind the idea of the side mount, what that does mean is that all of the markings on the sides of the missiles should be facing downwards. (Funny thing, they actually did this with the YF-19 RMS mounts.) Weapons aren't manufactured with different sets of mounting lugs, just so you can see the logo on the side, so having the dual-pack RMSs mounted entirely different from the singles is.. well, in a word, wrong.. Not that Bandai is going to care anyway, and they're only copying Hasegawa, but I'm actually more surprised Hasegawa made the same mistake in the first place. Really no biggie in the long run, I just always find it funny how stuff in Macross constantly straddles that line between "looks cool" and "looks like realistic military hardware."
  15. That's really odd to have left and right individual clusters.. but whatever, Bandai will be Bandai. Good news for those waiting on CD Japan, got my notice that they shipped my sets today. Should be here early next week.
  16. Oh, not saying that's the only difference, just one more I noticed. The hair is mirrored, and there may be other features that are unique to the D, but I'll have to compare the kits directly. I'm mostly just interested in the alternate colors, since I'm not sure I'll paint these, depending on how they're molded.
  17. I honestly wouldn't worry one way or another about PC/Xbox at this point. Microsoft is basically leaning full-tilt into just making everything run on their cloud service, so anything on the PC will probably wind up on the Xbox as well, and possibly even the Switch. Provided you have the connection, of course.
  18. Heheh, I actually was being mostly sarcastic about them being forbidden from making anything too close to a real aircraft. I just can't think of any better excuse for why no one seems to try any harder. It really is sad, but I figure it's basically the state of affairs with Transformers in general. I know I'm over-generalizing (and it definitely does not apply to the population here), but I feel like the larger fanbase couldn't give two craps about how accurate an alt mode is, just so long as the robots look like the characters they know and love. Very very rarely do I ever see anyone displaying any Transformers in their alt modes, unless they bought duplicates for that explicit purpose.

I've had one of those for a long time, but in Sundowners markings.. sort of. I don't know if the markings are better on the VF-2 version, but my VF-111 variant is covered in really embarrassing Engrish. "NT" instead of "NL" on the tails, and flying off of the "USS Independance."
  20. So, part of me thinks Hasbro themselves are contractually forbidden from making anything that looks too much like a real aircraft, so they don't have to pay licensing fees for the designs. No excuse for 3rd party groups.. but yeah. There's a part of me that would love to join one of these groups, just so we could, for once in a great long while, get a transformer that turns into a respectably aerodynamic aircraft alt mode. We've all been spoiled rotten by Macross.
  21. I'm still waiting to hear from CD Japan, haven't heard a peep out of them since the release started. I'm assuming they still are waiting for their proxy orders to come in, but I didn't order through their proxy service, it was right on their site.
  22. This assumes they would actually produce equal to the demand. Clearly that would make far too much sense for them to actually do. Honestly speaking here though.. really not liking how just.. bad Bandai seems at making aircraft markings.. I get it, they want to throw everything and a pile of kitchen sinks at the tampo, but it really looks bad, and they're badly oversizing a lot of elements, and putting them in places that look awful. As much cheaper as these are than Arcadia's premiums, I'm starting to think the extra cost is worth it, even at the smaller scale.
  23. Wound up pre-ordering the VF-31D, and putting in an order for the 35th anniversary scheme one too, while they're on discount at HLJ. I did notice, the D-version has a notched cat ear. Wish we could get a Mirage variant, but I might try and tweak the 35th one in her colors.
  24. Twenty years from now, they'll do a tie-in movie that establishes John Rambo as the genetic basis for Kurt Russell's character in Soldier.
  25. Works fine, except for when Bandai for some reason can't properly estimate production numbers from the number of pre-orders they receive.
