  1. If we want super clarity, 109s are Bf-109s. Some German documents referred to them later as Me-109, but Bf is officially correct. Particularly if referring to an early Bf-109 prototype which was produced before the company changed its name to Messerschmitt.
  2. Awesome scratch building GMK. In a similar vein, here's my latest fictional tank variant, I call it the Bull Tiger. It's a standard Tiger II with a chopped down hull (about 7.5mm I'd guess), some horn-like rear hull extensions (just for looks), and a modified turret. The turret is likewise slightly lower profile and I've narrowed the front and rear angles, as well as extended the turret sides rearward a bit for even racier lines. Overall, it looks pretty sleek, and is barely taller than an M4 Sherman's hull. I know most modellers are primarily interested in accuracy, which this pisses all over, but I have to say, this is one of my favorite armor models I've ever completed. Might as well show you how it was made:
  3. Looks "un-gundam-y" seems like a step in the right direction. Everything looks so derivative of everything else it's gotten boring. A step in a new direction (like Zeta was from MSG?) could be interesting. It even looks a bit Nagano-esque, which could be very exciting. Who's to say if the story and characters are any good (my moneys on 'no'), but the teaser has my attention.
  4. I think matte black / satin is one of the most common finishes I see for modded AMGs, Lambos, and BMW M cars out here in West LA. I feel like the only sane man in a crazy world, but I hate it. That and black wheels. Hate them both individually, hate them even more together.
  5. Don't we have a good injection y-wing already? Where's the quality B-wing, or Executor, or Calamari Cruiser, or Medical Frigate...or anything we haven't seen a good mass market kit of.
  6. Yet another modified AFV, this one a bit further off the beaten path. Panhard EBR with a few tweeks: New rear deck to replace the "push-me-pull-you" symmetrical design (which is useful, but looks dumb). New metal wheels all the way around (no rubber tires for this guy). Image 1 shows the hull immediately after rear driving area was completely removed alongside the newly formed rear deck and extended fenders. Images 2 and 3 are the finished product. A bit esoteric, but a nice kit, and a really fun modification.
  7. "quintessential" In other news, I just finished my first (and probably last) Zoid. I really like the idea of a line of a mecha based on animals, but most of the designs I just don't like, and it seems like 80% of them are raptors and tigers [yawn]. But this guy was cheap and looked fun: Only mods (besides paint) were the replacement of the gun with something less kiddy, cutting down the trunnions a bit, and removing a ground-dragging bump underneath the abdomen.
  8. Wet fine grit sandpaper should do the trick. At least, that's what I'd try.
  9. I'll second this motion concerning using a pencil. I use 'em all the time for small bits that even my smallest pens have a hard time with. They leave a nice fine line, can be easily erased if you mess up, and seem to be pretty well permanent after a decent dull/gloss coat. I thought it was one of my secrets...
  10. Man, I'd be all over that in 1/35 scale.
  11. Very nice work on that TIE bomber, wow. Love the base too. I didn't know papercraft stuff came that large. I've always been amazed at that sort of modelling. As for me, finished another custom armored vehicle. Removed the turret of a sdkfz 231 and made an open-topped command car. This guy suffered badly in the painting/finishing stages, having fallen from a counter and lost about every attachment and broken every hull seam he's got. Still, we soldiered on. You can't see it here but he's got a full (if slightly sparse) custom-made interior. Note: I have no idea how to paint wear on tires, so after the litany of setbacks suffered by this poor guy, I left well enough alone rather than tempt fate...but I admit they look out of place.
  12. I've been thinking about trying the AC kits, but I hate that they are sold as whole mechs and not sold as parts. In order to built "my" AC that I beat the old games with I'd have to get like 5 different kits (one for head, one for arms and legs, another for back weapons, yet another for torso, etc.) Given the source material, I'm surprised they didn't sell them as parts sets. But...back to gundam: So I thought my MG Turn-X needed a little buddy. What little I know about the "Correct Century" is that it is far in the future and mobile suits from all sorts of eras are dug up on the moon and earth. With that in mind, I figured I could pretty much go with anything. So I did. Here's my Zollidia (V-Gundam timeline) just after basic construction and putty application: I don't like the scheme on it, but I did think it would look really nice with a zaku-esque "OYW Custom" job. So I replaced the beam shield with a holster/bracket for his new beefy gun and painted him up. Nice and simple, but it looks good next to the muuuch larger Turn-X Apologies for the grainy photos. I think if the full force of the sun isn't shining on my subject I will never get a "clear" photo with this cellphone.
  13. Hmm, that sounds tough. How about this then: anyone with an MG Zeta 2.0 that plans on painting it? I'd be happy to pay shipping costs for a parts swap. My soon-to-be-delivered yellow parts for a few of your white ones? It's only the face, crest, upper legs / arms, and torso; I'd be greatly appreciative.
  14. Question: Is there a service, or vendor, or a board somewhere for Gundam parts trading/selling? Not a broken part replacement service, but a way to just purchase parts. I'm going to replace the yellow parts of the upcoming "Gray Zeta" MG release, and since it's a transforming suit, I'd rather not paint them. There aren't that many parts, and all of them are white on the original MG Zeta 2.0, so I figure a swap would be easy...if I could find a place to grab those parts, or trade them with someone who is going to fully paint their 2.0 Zeta anyway. Does anything like this exist? Note: just the pale yellow on this guy: http://www.gundamkitscollection.com/2014/11/p-bandai-mg-1100-zeta-gundam-gray-wolfs_20.html Looking over the Zeta 2.0 instructions it looks to be about 18 parts, mostly small. I did find a vendor on ebay selling parts at $6 a pop, which would put this handful of parts at over $100...
  15. Yeah, I agree, seems like an interesting move. What little I've read of Star Saber make him sound really, really boring. But that comic personification seems at least interesting. If it wasn't for his amateurish alt mode, I might even consider him...his robot mode is pretty cool, horrible coloring aside.
  16. Tracks wasn't a Trans Am "Guido" is sorta offensive, at least it was before Jersey Shore, and it certainly still is to my Italian-American in-laws.
  17. It's a Yak. Look at the vertical stabilizer
  18. It's really quite easy, if slightly time consuming, and really goes a long way towards making the finished product look well done. If you're doing washes and the like, that's like intermediate-level modeling. Cleaning up the parts is basic. That said, to each their own, and as long as you're happy with the results, keep up the good work.
  19. See a lot of sprue marks left untrimmed on the Tallgeese. The wash looks great, but would look even better without the visible trim marks.
  20. Wake me up when they do a "rebels" show that mirrors the animated Clone Wars shorts that predate the CGI show. That was my favorite Star Wars production to come out of the prequels
  21. AT-ST in 1/48? I'd much prefer 1/35 to go with, you know, every armor/accessory kit ever. And...molded closed visors?! Like the 30 year old ERLT kit? Seriously?
