CG vs Hand Drawn/Models for Large Objects in Sci Fi
CoryHolmes replied to MilSpex's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Part of the problem is the age of the technology involved. Models and stop-motion effects have been used since Ray Harryhausen did the magic in Jason and the Argonauts. If you go back and watch it, you'll see how crude and stilted the animation was, but the medium was in its infancy. George Lucas stepped model-filming up several notches with Star Wars, and the technology has just gone higher from there. CGI is still (reletivly) in its infancy and, while amazing in what it can do, there is still major room for improvement. CGI is smack-dab in the middle of the uncanny valley and is slowly digging itself out. Give it time to grow up and it'll become even more amazing than it is now. Amen. I despise that shaky-cam style of filmaking with a passion. EDIT: me no speel reight. -
Visionaries so needs a movie/tv series much more than almost any that have been listed already.

Question for die hard Robotech DVD TV series people

I dunno about that. Macross 7 is pretty cocked-up no matter which part you look at... Plus, the first 20 minutes of Shadow Chronicles was alrightish. I enjoyed the space battle at any rate. -

Woo hoo! Too Human now has an official release date of August 19th! -
Upon further playing, the gameplay is passible in control and downright boringly repetitive, but I'm finding myself sucked in by the story. Niko Bellac is a wonderful protagonist and makes for a very interesting storyteller. I look forward to finding out more about his past and what he plans to do with his future. The rest of the characters are equally as enjoyable though not quite as compelling. My personal rating would have to be 75/100.

I'm more upset that this means we'll never see a Marvel Swimsuit Edition for charity...

Though we did get the Uni-Beam. But either way, we needed more of Iron Man in the film.

That'd be a stupid move on their part. Integreated Blu-Ray is part of the reason the PS3 is so darned expensive. MS made the right call (especially given the format war) to make the HD player an add-on package. -
The only thing it was lacking was more of Iron Man. Batman Begins has the same issue where we don't get enough of the hero doing the heroic stuff.

Are you a left or right brain person?

How's this for a stupid question: what is clockwise and anti-clockwise when looking at a profile? When I'm looking at the top of something, it's easy. On the profile, not so much... -
I'm also not pleased with how the vehicles handle. Trying to turn a simple corner is just nightmarish and makes the game unenjoyable. Maybe as I get better with the controls things will change, but for now...

So I just bought GTA IV. My first GTA game ever and thusfar you can colour me unimpressed. For a game with "Auto" in its title, I dislike the vehicle controls. Use one trigger to accelerate and one to break doesn't work well for me, I prefer having all my controls with the left thumbstick. I'm not totally sold on the open-world concept either. Looks like fun, but... Anyone else her play it yet?

I haven't heard that many knocks against their Masterpiece Voltron set, so hopefully this will bode well for the Masterpiece Beta, yes?

Still, the top-mounted missle rack sits flush in fighter mode. That's already something that CM's version didn't do.

I have officially jumped on the Fallout 3 bandwagon. Even more impressive is that I haven't played either of the first two Fallouts. I'm also thinking of buying GTA IV (which would be my first GTA game ever) and I'm waiing for Too Human to come out. This is going to be an expensive gaming year for me. -

Slacker! Have any links for these Celeb-Sheps? -
I vote for Steve Carrol and Ben Stiller. Neither of them are the slightest bit funny.

Ah, true true. I never thought that, oddly enough, a tight seal might be needed in a desert. I'll also agree with you on the hood thing, but not the mask. Mask seemed tight enough around the head and face, but I wonder about the wisdom of wearing heavy cloaks in a desert. Still, you bring up good points.

I dunno. There's something about wearing black leather in the desert that just doesn't work for me... There are elements of the movie that I like over the miniseries (the Sandworms, movie Hallack, etc.) and some parts of the mini that I like over the movie (the cinematography, the style it was shot in, the greater emphasis on political intrigue...). But the best thing the miniseries has going for it is the Baron Harkonnen. He kicked ass in the mini All of which leads to my next question: Har-KO-nen or Hark-O-nen?
