  1. How's that so diferent? In the novel, the Emperor feared the influence Duke Leto was gaining in the Great Houses, and in the movie he was fearing Duke Leto's milittry forces. Not totally different, but...
  2. So does this mean we won't get an Areaseven New Release review?
  3. The Lynch version didn't deviate from the material nearly as much as most people think. The main thing is that Paul armed the Fremen with a new weapon, one that would take advantage of their upbringing and become fearsome warriors. In the book, this took the form of a semi-mystical martial art. In the movies, it took the form of a gun that the audience could relate to. The one big problem with a Dune movie is that there is just so much story to cover in one go. Even limiting yourself to the first novel doesn't really settle things down at all.
  4. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Ubisoft recently bought the rights to the Tom Clancy branding inperpetuaum. They can now make whatever they want and slap the TC label on it and not pay a dime of licencing fees to the guy. Before, if you wanted to get the TC brand then your game had to meet his standards. I don't know if that still holds true.
  5. Okay, now you're just being greedy. You have to wait for all the other little children to get theirs before you can have yours. It's only fair.
  6. Okay. *throws a bone* Fetch, Dragon. Fetch!
  7. And yet, people decry George Lucas for doing the same thing with Star Wars... For the record, I am completely unsurprised at this. Eva has been miilked for every dime it can earn since Day One. Why would they stop now?
  8. It looks like they took an Alpha, stuck it in a bench vice, and stretched the crap out of it. It's too tall, too skinny, an too out-of-proportion.
  9. Man, that Legioss' head is tiny! Looks like something out of a B-grade horror film, "Shrunken Robot Heads!"
  10. Do the math again. 60,000 yen = ~$600 USD. That hurts just thinking about it.
  11. It's called Real Life. Sadly, the laws need to be written with the lowest common denominator in mind. It's just disheartening that the LCD is that low.
  12. It's just... I mean... How... That just boggles the mind. It really, really does.
  13. My biggest gripe with all of these films is the fact that they look like they're presented in fast-forwrad just to make them more "exciting". Hate it when TV and movies do that, I still hate it here.
  14. Any ideas where I can find a sound-calibration/fiddling program? I used the video calibration from Episode III and have been quite pleased with that for the picture.
  15. Watching my new Batman Begins HD disc I've come across a problem that I've repetadly bumped my head against: how do I get the dialog to be louder than the background noise without cranking the volume way up? Nice, good Dolby TrueHD Audio, fantastic ambience, with characters whispering being drowned out by the rumble of passing car engines. Admittadly I'm using a 4 year-old Yamaha HTiaB, but there has to be some way around this mess.
  16. I don't like how that first AICN shot of Snake Eyes makes it look like the vents are covering his mouth instead of his eyes. You can also add me to the list of people who prefer Commando Snake Eyes to Mystical Ninja Snake Eyes.
  17. Rama I = winwinwin Rama II, III, IV... don't ask, man. Just don't ask...
  18. That's what makes his stuff so enjoyable to me, the accessability. Other "hard sci fi" novels read like technical journals and ph.D-level papers. Clarke always made his stories managable for the layperson while not compromising on the quality of the story or the science behind them.
  19. I like how Firefly was inspired by Han Solo from Star Wars. That leads to a very interesting idea of 'what if?' for me. But I agree with WDC, Serenity was overall rather average.
  20. Nine Billion, along with The Sentinel, are two of the greatest short sci-fi stories of all time. Rendevous with Rama is still my favourite hard sci-fi novel. This is terrible news.
  21. Moremoremore importanlty, when are we going to see all of the deleted scenes from all of the movies?
  22. More importantly, when is Star Wars?
  23. My Batman Beyond HD-DVD has a "button audio" checkbox in the audio menu. What does it do? EDIT: nevermind, I figured it out. Cue Homer-esque "D'oh!"
  24. Damn! Late again!
  25. No, you may not.
