  1. As a parallel question on the topic, what percentage of their ammunition did Isamu & Guld likely use up prior to the Ghost fighter showing up? Not sure I remember many missiles being shot at it.
  2. As an 80's kid, I grew up primarily watching Transformers, but Robotech was another interesting show with transforming robots so I watched it too. Around 1990, a few friends and I were digging thru the box of Betamax tapes and stumbled across some Southern Cross eps I had recorded randomly, and were immediately hooked trying to find more. I then picked up Robotech Volume 3 (the only one on the shelf) from the 6-volume set, which began with Gloval's Report and summarized the first half of the show before carrying thru to Roy's death, so pretty much the meatiest volume I could get. I went on to get 4-6 over the next few years, and when the internet came about I was involved on a fan mailing list talking about RT for some time. We caught Macross II at Suncoast Video when it first came out, and same story for Mac+. We also got into the Palladium RPGs thru high school, as well as bootleg anime from our local comic shop. I still have a couple of Protoculture Addicts magazines from that time, too. 7 I discovered in college (bootleg VCD's), then heard about Zero thru the grapevine, and joined MW about that same time. The rest is pretty much shared history with y'all
  3. Maybe more than that, depending on how you look at it. TV Tropes has it at the "Love Dodecahedron" level. Official: Basara - Mylene - Gamlin Mylene - Basara - Sivil Gigil - Sivil - Basara Unofficial/secondary: Mylene - Basara - Rex Emilia - Basara - Mylene Gamlin - Mylene - Docker Bridge Bunny 1 - Kinryu - Bridge Bunny 2 (bro fistbump) Physica - Mrs. Physica - Other guy on the side (not cool)
  4. Still hunting for info on this one. The canon story is humorous (Macross 11 fleet band that asserts the original creative rights behind FB music, with Kaifun as manager), but the actual IRL vocalists who sang the tracks are pretty hard to find. One Spanish site I found lists the singers as Dennis Gunn and Dawn Moore, but aside from that one mention (and some pretty scathing review comments) I can't find any other listing. http://www.macrossgeneration.com/musica/macross7/english.php The Dennis Gunn website mentions him being a singer popular in Japan with movie/video game soundtrack contributions, so that might be legit. http://dennisgunnmusic.com/ I can't find anything on Dawn Moore though, has anyone ever looked into her career info? I know these are probably low items on the totem pole, but make for interesting trivia.
  5. It would have worked out better too if the YF-24 derivatives didn't get progressively bulkier and more unwieldy back kibble with each iteration. The 25 wings were angelic, while the 27-30 were so back heavy it pushed the limits of believability in a gravity environment (as evidenced by the toys). Contrast that with a 21 or 171, or even the original VF-1's, where the wings actually stow somewhere in Battroid mode and leave just the leg engines and rocket pack for stability/thrust. Hopefully the new series will consider a little more function with the form, but I have a strong belief we're going to see VF-30 variants at least at first - they need to show us the alternate pod attachments, after all.
  6. Thanks for the tips all, I transformed mine F-G-B once tonight over the course of about an hour, then applied the FAST packs minus the Frontier wing rockets. My thumbs hurt now, but it wasn't as agonizing as the 171EX at least. The 19Adv so far seems surprisingly robust for all the hinges and small moving parts, and though I think my 19Kai still edges it out for pleasantness of transformation it makes for one hell of a display piece when posed. It was very helpful to loosen those 2 upper leg screws, to pivot the legs around when raising the hip line. Even with half a turn or so of loosening, those things are still quite tight. I'll try the return to F mode in a couple days, thankfully the instructions cover it. The vids and photos from y'all on how to address the super parts will also be a lifesaver.
  7. Mac+ question: In the 4-part OAV at the end, Isamu is shown bleeding all across the forehead when he hovers in to see Myung near the SDF bridge, but nothing on-screen happened to explain it. In the movie version, we see that the wound was caused by disabling his console to silence Sharon. His recovery of control also had some extended footage that fit a little too well with the follow-up scene. Was the headbutt & recovery storyboarded at one point, but not animated in the first iteration? Or was it a cut scene that got put back in for the movie?
  8. My HLJ order was cancelled as well. Not the best email to find waiting for me this morning... but I don't resent HLJ over it or anything, at least they were honest and straightforward about it.
  9. My HLJ order (from the secure link) is still in my account listed as "Processing," but no payment notice or anything yet. The preview image from the item went away like they had taken it down as well. Not sure if I should be optimistic or pessimistic at this point, so I'll continue waiting. For reference, mine was ordered solo (no private warehouse or other items, ship immediately) on Saturday afternoon right before I posted last. I think I might have been one of the later orderers, but this would be my one and only VF-19Adv from them (or anyone else, for that matter).
  10. Jumped on it this time, hopefully it goes through! Thanks so much for the assistance!
  11. That article was painful to read. "Scrounge?" Sounds like a rejected Dinobot. Unicron sending "another group of Decepticons to Earth to consume it?" I wasn't aware he had a presence in the first films. This is the consequence of blogs replacing proofread news, you get someone throwing a bunch of words out just to see what sticks. The list of contributing staff is also a disaster - a mix of writers writers and creators from projects which are so convoluted they implode under their own pretense, with just a couple of gems that I hope are in charge for the sake of it just being understandable (Iron Man, X-Men Last Stand). AoE left my brain feeling like jello from the action overload, and I think pretty much closed the door on the live-action franchise for me. I had hopes for it after DotM was pretty enjoyable, but for the good stories these days I stick to the comics.
  12. CW Hot Spot arrived today, and I'm quite impressed. It does everything simply but effectively, and throws in some neat innovation for the torso mode. Within 15 minutes I was touching it up with gold & silver sharpies though, as the paint apps are sorely lacking (par for the Hasbro course). I am still on the fence about getting the Protectobot limbs, as I don't really like repaints and will likely get the newer molds with CW Bruticus. My Defensor has also been decided for a while now (Maketoys Guardia) but this Hot Spot was too attractive to pass up. I'm already decided on getting Victorion as well, regardless of the composition, just to support introducing new characters to the franchise.
  13. It was everything I hoped for, and then some. It's a crying shame most of my coworkers and acquaintances are millennials that won't appreciate the homage, the few friends I know that were born in the 80's got a huge kick out of it.
  14. My first TF that I can recall getting is Gears, which I selected from the cart child seat in Wal-Mart because he was a blue truck. 30 years later, I picked up Cogwheel because nostalgia dictated. I switched the head to the masked option and posed them side by side for a while.
  15. Is the Gamlin 22S able to stow the gun pods under the belly in Fighter mode? Or is that just a 21/FAST pack thing?
  16. I also feel the Robotech scoring was better than Macross, but I think it's because of my "80's American kid" perspective that it just fit better for the sequences the music accompanied. I loved whenever Rick Hunter's theme played because it meant great action was about to happen, and "We Will Win" was set very nicely to the dramatic final battle with Dolza's fleet. Likewise, the piano version of We Will Win accompanying sad moments like Roy's death did a great job of backing up the emotion of the scene. Watching Macross, conversely, I didn't really like Shao Pai Long as an action/big hero moment theme, nor the fast guitar main theme because they seemed jarring and inappropriate to the scene, as well as a bit inconsistent in style. If I were growing up with those kinds of themes accompanying other media I watched, it might be a different story. The point of score is to help a scene evoke the emotion that the action and dialogue are trying to convey, and it isn't unreasonable to think if the music fits the familiar trends and themes in a viewer's culture it is going to resonate better.
  17. I gave up hunting for them and actually ended up finding them cheaper at HTS than if I went to the store, and free shipping to boot. My Superion is currently limbless, however, waiting for the first 4 deluxes to arrive.
  18. I'm also in the camp that liked District 9, but felt Elysium was too heavy-handed. Chappie really piques my interest for some reason, I'm curious what kind of social message might be in it - or if it will keep the commentary low and just tell a compelling story.
  19. Latest news I saw was that one of the figures is Leader-sized, the rest are Voyagers, and the quantity of bots is not for sure... I plan to get it either way, but there may be some wailing and gnashing of teeth among the purists unless it fits the very specific IDW setup with Long Haul being larger than the others. Of course, I haven't seen a Titan Metroplex in person yet, so this one may end up as another white whale for me.
  20. I would buy a Battle 7 in a heartbeat, way more attractive to me than the Quarter or even the SDF-1. It would be forever posed pointing the main cannon at my ceiling.
  21. Those bumpers are the exact ones. I clamped a Toynami tailfin between a couple for a month to make sure they wouldn't eat the paint on a figure I care about, and have been using them everywhere since. They mold pretty nicely to whatever you set on them, and I suppose could be stacked for greater padding if desired.
  22. On Diesel, the best things you can do up front are to smooth off the sharp corners on his middle waist piece (the one holding the skirts), and also smooth the ratchets at both ends of the double-bar swing piece in his torso. While you have it out, repeatedly flex the pivots around the pins to wear them in. This should eliminate most of the scary tight points.
  23. Do the super parts at the top of the calves have to be removed for fighter mode?
  24. I actually really enjoyed the new movie, it was a very pleasant surprise. Megan Fox is starting to look a little rough, and her older partner guy was creepy (should have picked a younger actor), but the action was enjoyable and the comedy was good without being too juvenile. Truth be told, I like these kind of movies to chill out and cull a few brain cells, and it did that quite nicely.
