Well - in Robotech Art 3, the guy who writes that says that syndication required that one show has 65 episodes or something like that. But I see what you're saying - they could have just set it up as "the Japanese Anime Trilogy" - a sampling of three different anime from Japan. But that would have required creative thought ontheir part... Pete

No - you needn't watch it again. Your memory is quite correct. I just couldn't even stand that much and, as with everything else, have squeered the memory in favor of my impression in order to build up a bias. I also remember two scenes in the Jack McKinny novels which I found yucky - one of them was in Zendradi Rebellion (which was actually the only McKinny novel I still like on the whole, mainly for its' genuinely good political thriller plot - where Rick and Lisa are all oogly with eachother in the beginning.... and then in a later, Sentinels novel where Lisa calls Rick "tiger" or some such clap trap... I guess I just prefer the way that budding romance and love are handled in the original Macross to the "westernized" version. As to the problem of American audiences swallowing the idea of Misa being humiliated and wanting to die for honor... Americans managed to digest Shogun just fine; and also, the honor code is - in a bit of a different form - present in our Cowboy/Western culture... so it wouldn't have been that totally foreign. But I guess when it boils right down to it - a contributing factor was the terrible voice acting in Robotech. Pete

Is Cheetor really as bad as pictures make him out to be? It's almost too bad to be true...? Pete
-
Have to agree with Breetai here. What Keith describes as Instrumentality sounds like Solipsism. However; that is not what the characters in NGE tell us - since there is the I that I see and the I that others see and the "true" I is an amalgamation of these two - and since the "I that others see" is itself equivalent to saying "The I seen by the Other who itself is divided into an I that I see and and I that the Other sees (the Other looking at its' own I concurently with my own)" then there is only ONE TRUE I independent of all individual I's and composed of them. Which also leads me to another question...Why was the choice left with Shinji? Pete

Hey you, you leave Gubaba alone cause Gubaba is my friend and I'm gonna tell on you if you don't so there. Pete* *just in case: I am, once again, being sarcastic*

Official Bandai 1/60 Scale DX Toy Thread Ver.3

Well - what is Bandai's history in terms of photographing its' own transforming figures? I ask because if you recall, Hasbo is famous for not knowing how to transform its' own transformers (or at least hiring ad agencies without caring if the people taking the pictures know how to transform the product). Maybe Ozma got the same shoddy treatment and it actually went on the package? Hard to believe - but then again - I am only used to looking at Bandai promotional material for SOC - ..... In any event - the mold of the VF-25s is all the same, no? Sure, the heads are different - but there is no reason for Ozma not to have a neck but Mikhael to have one. Pete -

Yay. Hopefully I'll have this soon. Pete -
Well - I actually disagree. See - it would have been just as epic as if - say - Transformers season 1 was combined with Voltron and Gobots into a show called "RoboWarriors" And you could be like - wow- what a grand epic scale this show has. But it doesn't. It's just glued together. Of course Macek and HG aren't even really to blame for this - since it was one of the pre-requisites of sindication to have X number of episodes and so they just had to fill it in... but... I dunno - different time, different circumstances. For the time - as I wrote before - I understand it was the only practical way of bringing anime into America. For today - we can enjoy the originals. I just feel that there's no point to watching something fake - and ultimately that's what Robotech is - it's one big fake. There is no epic there... Besides - Macross is epic in its' own right - Frontier is just the literal tip of the iceberg - but if you watch all the shows then you'll see that it's also a great epic. I dunno. I hated the interaction between Rick and Lisa. Rick was always horny and Lisa was always hyper. This was in accordance with the buchery of Macross into Robotech - the best example of which is the episode where Lisa is caught in the dead limp clutches of a Zendradi, with others coming quickly, and Rick can't get her out... and we get this dialogue: Lisa: Oh Rick - only now do I realize I love you! boo hoo! Rick: I love you too! Now let's go! How pathetic - literally. So utterly full of Pathos. It's like a...er...a bad American cartoon or movie - sorry to use the "stereotype." In Macross we had Misa wanting to die for honor since she'd failed as a soldier (by dropping the camera with the surveillance video) and Hikaru insisting that "I would never turn my back on a girl." This evoked Misa's womanliness - and put a smile on her face - she had always surpressed her womanliness in favor of soldierly honor and sudenly here was this guy saying "yeah, ok - you failed. But I'm not leaving a woman behind" - treating her as a woman and not a soldier - something she'd never experienced from other men who were her subordinates. And that little smile was FAR MORE COMMUNICATIVE of her love and yearning for love as a woman than Lisa's "oh Riiiick! I neeed you! I looove you" claptrap. It's literally the little things like that which make me prefer Macross. Robotech is "epic" - in fact, it's so "epic" as to be pathetic. Every single sentence in Robotech seems to screem "I AM EPIC! I AM IMPORTANT! I AM SERIOUS! SEE THE BLOOD! SEE THE DEATH! SEE THE ADVENTURE! I AM NOT JUST FOR KIDS!" That ironically makes Robotech extremely camp - and not in the good (aka unintentional) way - but in the bad, pathos filled way. Pete Pete

Given how unstable the Miriya Quad type is when posing her, I'm going to keep her away from Max 1S. Don't want her falling on him, and him falling off the shelf or something. I have nightmares about the Quid Rau keeling over and knocking everything down... Either that, or I'll have to get kinky and just have Max tie her up or something... Pete

Higher? Earlier in this thread, someone noted that "if the legs go any higher, then his thighs would be touching where hist chest would be if he were human" - aka - that they should be lower I think it looks wicked sweet. Gonna have to get me those alto super packs...no matter the cost! (krrr-chk-krr-krrr-chk...."YOU GOT THE TOUCH! YOU GOT THE POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRR............YYYYEEEEAAAAAH!!)...sh$t...sorry...childhood memories kicked in Pete -
Silly Gubaba! Tricks are for---I mean...silly Gubaba; I have known of the existence of Doug Bandon since at least two weeks ago from a previous thread on Macross world As for that website...it won't open for me... guess there must be some wicked cool stuff there that I'm just not going to have the good fortune of ever discovering (still waiting for the website to open...and will certainly write some long winded comment on it as sooon as it does).... that's it...I give up It won't open for me What does he say? Is there a transcript anywhere? Pete

Macross Frontier Series Discussion Thread *READ 1st Post*
VFTF1 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well - friends not liking anime that you like is one thing, but my girlfriend had a hissy fit when she saw that I had Ranka as my cell phone background (now of course I have my girlfriend) and when I had Ranka as my laptop wallpaper (now I have EVA-01). Strangely enough, she was content when I had Hikaru embracing Misa as my laptop wallpaper because "they look like us" (her words). But Ranka makes her rage with jealousy It's actually quite amusing. She was also jealous of my Tohsaka Rhin Revoltech figure Pete -
Huh? No way - the arrows on the head are Yellow on Roy. The dot on Roy is red... look: So I'm thinking the Hikaru 1S also has red arrows like the 1A rather than yellow arrows like the Roy. I was wondering because I was gonna slap my extra Roy head on Hikaru's 1A but since the Roy 1S head has yellow arrows - that won't work. Pete
-
So Hikaru 1S is out. Is the only difference between Hikaru and Roy's 1S heads the color of the "arrows" ? Roy's are yellow and Hikaru's are red? Pete
-
Well - nothing better than an anime series that needs to be rewatched to understand... Kieth - your explanation is something I'm going to have to re-read a few times before asking anything more except about this fragment: If the angels do not evolve, then how was NERV able to kill the "computer virus" angel that infected the Magi by speeding up its' evolution (towards death)? Pete
-
Never seen Highlander - but do you basically mean that barring outside influence they cannot die? And the only thing that can kill them happens to be EVA? Also - what exactly was the Lance of Longinus? And was the danger of removing it by Rei that Adam could potentially get up off his cross? Sorry to bombard you with all of these questions, but getting the facts straight will help me with my thinking and interpreting. Always a pain in the butt to start waxing philosophical about something and it turns out that the real problem was that I got the facts wrong. Pete
-
Ah! Oh - that's right. I was wondering what that bolt of lighting was...duh As for the Angels...so...does it look something like this: God (Lilith): Infinite and Singular Humans: Finite and (large) Multiple Angels: Infinite and (small) Multiple ?? But the Angels do die - they are destroyed and Fuyutski even says that they, like all evolving beings, have death as the end of their evolution...so how can they be infinite if they die? Pete
-
Actually - I think this is true. Seriously and with all our personal biases aside: Have you ever met ANYONE who has watched and read and followed all of Robotech and, upon watching the original japanese Macross and then all of the other Macross series has actually said "this sucks! Robotech is better" ? I haven't. But then again - on the other hand the robotech forum is alive and well, so I guess there are people who prefer it... still - it's just hard to concieve... But still - if there were out and out competition then I think hands down Macross would survive on its' own and possibly surpass RT. Pete
-
I never made the connection between Toji's sister and the EVA before... But then - where did the Angel come in? Was the angel born of Toji's rage? Toji must have realized that the EVA was his sister as soon as he synchronized with it. On that note - what are the Angels? I understand the whole "Lilith came/Lilith did" bit - but...what exactly are they? Pete
-
Well - if your first impression was this thread and a couple of those "you stupid dumb butt" posts left on your blog, then I guess it's understandable why you had a bad impression. But if you really like Ranka and enjoyed Macross Frontier, then I think you'll be happy here. Check out the long thread on the differences between Robotech and Macross. Actually - might I suggest to the mods that we re-open that thread for a while in case Astro-Bunny has any questions or statements to make about Robotech as it pertains to Macross? I think that, if you're really that well versed in Robotech (having read all of the novels), then you'll probabyl have lots of "untangling" moments and it would be good to do them in the Robotech/Macross thread... Last thing: I think you'll discover -if you stick around here for a bit - that this board is NOT about hating Robotech or anyone else. This board is about LOVING Macross. So - like I said - if, as it seems, you did really enjoy Frontier - then you'll probably find yourself right at home here. Of course. As soon as you've taken the Blood Oath and Recanted your sins, and done three months of Purgatory (we usually ask recovering Robotech fans to be responsible for correcting grammatical and spelling mistakes in every single post on the thread for 3 months) and then send Graham and Shawn a copy of your will in which you promise to fork over your inheritance to Macrossworld in the event of your untimely demise - then you'll be accepted as one of us and can have the honor of writing "I agree with you" whenever a member with above 1000 posts writes something and "you are so fantastic" whenever a member with above 3000 posts writes something. Eventually, you will hopefully reach englithenment and be deemed a human and welcomed into the fold. Pete

Yeah - Misato and Kaji were also very heroic - and I'd probably add Misato's father; who had a Darth Vader moment of sorts Hmm...anyways - interesting interesting - all food for thought. I still have to (re) watch the very last episode, and then onwards to End of Evangelon... Come now Gubaba - it's not very hard to deal with. You just answer them: "YEAH! IT SURE DID! SHINJI PUSSY STUPID DUMB BAD ENDING ANIMATION PUSSY CRAP ANIME!! ROBOTECH FTW!! DOOOD!" and they go away. Keith wrote: Lovely Freudian slip there Pete
