I'm not really into BDSM either - at least not personally. I do enjoy watching it though. Particularly when the participants are Valkyrie And since we're on the subject of fetish...peeka boo: Just a little taste of something I've been working on... ;p Pete

Lovely 1:72 Ozma. I opened mine today and looked at the parts. Doesn't look so daunting. Not as many rungs as some of my MG Gundams. Rather minimal. We'll see how the building process goes. I'm aiming to sit down to it next Monday (not tomorrow). Can't wait for my Messiah to be built Pete

Well - that takes the cake. Anyways, here's some pics demonstrating how much I love Yamato's new VF-1... Pete

I've gone and pre-ordered the IDW classic TF Marvel reprints 01 through 03 which hopefully will come out this month and make their way to me. I miss those old issues. I have almost all of the Titan reprints of the TMUK stories, so really looking forward to the early marvel run. My favorite arks are the original 1-12 starring Ratchet and then later the stories where Grimlock is chasing after Blaster. Going to be fun to relive that. Oh - and Ratbat leading the Decepticons. Dag- there ain't nothing like the original G1. After all these years I am completely unphased by anything that isn't G1 or Beast Wars... not that I hate anything after - but even Animated, which is cool, is only really cool because there's so much G1 goodness in it. A true nod and homage - but still not the same thing. Clearly I am becoming an old old man Pete

I would say that not even "sorta." The 1/60 is superior in terms of what it can do as far as poses, transformation and how it looks. This doesn't mean I hate the 1/48. It's just been surpassed. I'm happy to have the ones I do and hopefully won't sell any more of them off Pete

I learned Polish reading Polish versions of the Marvel Transformers comic books. Also thanks to watching Dynasty in Poland with a Polish voice over (literally voice over - as in, the engish is spoken and a Polish guy just talks over it)... I've been learning French since I was little. I'm really really bad at it, but I can read Tintin comics and know what's being said, and once managed to pick up three French chicks in Kalamazoo Michigan, take them to dinner and convince them to go stay at my house (well, at the house that was owned by my room-mate who was a carpenter who was renting me a room). He was very happy that I was living with him when he came home to find three French girls in the house They were kind of scared of all his guns though - but hey - it's America ... Since then, I've been really bummed about not knowing any more languages because there's so much great stuff out there that remains inaccessible to me or where I need intermediaries. All you guys who have taken the time to learn Japanese are cool. I wish I did it and hope that maybe one day I'll do it Pete

Very nice VE-1. However, I'm confused by the antena on the sides being so thick - the v.1 had them on pretty thin. What gives? Either way - looks great. Pete

Why Should Expensive Macross Toys Be Transformable At All?
VFTF1 replied to Cyclone Trooper's topic in Toys
Really excellent post there Cyclone Trooper -very thoughtful. I'm in the Buy-One-Get-One group in general, so for me it is necessary that the valkyrie be variable. I generally do NOT like to have my stuff MISB - actually...I don't own anything MISB. I'm in the Buy-One-Get-One category with Macross because I like the stuff so much that I really do want two or three of each valkyrie if possible. But not to keep some of them MISB, but to have a "fleet" But ultimately - why NOT make them variable? I mean - it doesn't hurt people who want to keep it MISB to make it variable, but it does raise the general quality and desirability of the thing to make it variable. It also helps that it is made (by Yamato) with such great care and detail because people like me who are not modelers and have never painted a model would have trouble amassing a collection of beloved Valkyries were they ALL model kits (variable or not). I have to admit however... I have never really encountered any MISB collectors. Not exclussively at least. I seem to recall seeing some folks who had MISBs - but not necessarily ONLY MISBs... Also - maybe it's because I hang out in the strike a pose thread and stuff - but most of the toy threads here have people discusisng the toy - not...you know...the MISB...thing... I mean - have you ever seen an MISB collector's thread? "How's your box man?" "It's fine. It's fine." "I looked into my box at a 30 degrees angle man. Dude - I can almost see the fins on my valkyrie." "Cool - just don't open that flap regularly - it could crease." "Oh my God! Guys! My 1/60 v.2 box flap is CREASED! I only opened it to look at the valkyrie like ONCE and the next day it's CREASED! Can overdrive iron it for me?" Pete -
Terminator Salvation, colon, Really Long Movie Title
VFTF1 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
That's hilarious Why did they take Bale as an actor if he's not going to allow for his likeness to be used? This movie better make the studio like a zillion dollars to justify Mr. "Are you a f#cking professional!?" - who now also turns out to be "I'm not going to have my face on toys" doing this part In any event - I'm looking forward to it Pete (who thinks Bale's face looks pretty generic anyways, so couldn't they just stick a generic face on John Conor's toy?) -
Terminator Salvation, colon, Really Long Movie Title
VFTF1 replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I dunno. I can't look at action figure toys anymore without thinking "where are the revolver joints?" - and without thinking "why are these sculpts not as good as Revoltech? I mean - it's not just poseability - but there's no dynamism in those toys. It's like they totally didn't even try to take advantage of toy technology... Yeah well... she just broke up with me for the 10th time in the last 4 and a half years so - at this point it really doesn't matter any more I wonder whether this time it's "for real" Edit: Oh - and that T-600 helment is great! When did you first realise how cool Macross is??
VFTF1 replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's very hard for me to say that there was some concrete "moment" that I fell in love with Macross. If anything, it's been a process. 1. Never had Robotech on TV growing up in the east coast. However, we did have role-playing games and hobby shops. I loved the Palladium Robotech role playing games for the mecha, the sophistication of the plot possibilities and the general imaginativeness that playing evoked. That was love-pan number one. 1 point 5: I bought a copy of Robotech Art III and read about the Sentinels movie. I also bought Zendradi Rebellion by Mckinney and thought it was the greatest story ever. These are very VERY vague memories because I didn't spend a lot of time on either of these two books - but they cemented in my mind a picture of what Robotech was. 2. I found Macross Plus at a rental place in Michigan one summer. I recognized the SDF-1, but wondered what it was doing in a movie called "Macross" (I didn't recall that Macross was the name of the SDF-1). I also wondered why it was called "Plus" and not "Two" (I didn't know about DYRL or Macross II). Finally, I wondered why it was so short? I deliberated whether or not it was the same as Robotech because other than the SDF-1, I couldn't find anything similar. No Rick Hunter or Invid or Alpha fighters like in my Art III book. Hmm... Went home and watched it and had mixed feelings. The animation was excellent, the story was rather compelling, although also somewhat unclear. I convinced myself that Macross Plus was kind of like an adventure in the Robotech Role Playing Game universe; where everything looked realistic and serious - and I wondered why they made this movie instead of Sentinels? 3. Many millions of years later, roaming Bigbadtoystore.com, I came upon Macross products from Yamato as well as the Masterpiece Robotech products from Toynami. I looked at the prices. My head exploded and I never looked at those products again. 4. One or two years later, Transformers Armada/Energon/Cybertron was in full swing. I don't know whether it was some time around the fifth black and red repaint of Armada Hotshot or whether it was seeing Power Ranger Fatimus Prime - but at some point I must have started wondering why I was spending all this money on all these ugly Transformers? I went back and took a look at those horribly expensive Macross products from Toynami and Yamato. I started to count. Hm. A 1:60 Elint seeker from Yamato cost pretty much the same as 6 or 7 random ugly Transformers. Suddenly I realized this WAS affordable. I bought a number of Yamato and Toynami products. Then I decided to go a little bit crazy. I got my first 1:48. It was Roy Fokker. It completely totally blew the "Masterpiece" Robotech toy out of the water in so many ways that it was crazy. I sold the Masterpiece Robotech toys vowing never again to be duped by Toynami. Then they came out with 1:100s. I bought the first wave of three. The head snapped off of one of them. All of them couldn't stay stable on their stands because the cones kept snapping, and the fighter modes looked...bad. I vowed never again to be fooled by the "it costs less" argument. I also decided to watch Macross, thinking that maybe it must be really good to inspire Yamato to make such amazing products. 5. I watched SDFM TV on Youtube - or at least I watched some of it. It was great. I decided to put my new laptop to the test and spent a week downloading the entire series with english sub titles. Then I spent one month eating pepperonni pizzas and drinking beer into the dead of the night watching SDFMTV. Then it was on to Macross 7 and Zero. Believe you me folks: I will again spend a month or two drinking beer and watching Macross round the clock When Frontier came out - I was hooked lined and sinkered. And then I saw Tengenn Toppa Gurren Lagann, Mobile Suit Gundam, Neon Genesis Evangelon... In short - a whole new world opened up, and it was good But Macross will always be the first. Pete -
My step-daughter is 12 and mainly into horses - albeit real horses. She is an expert horseback rider and I've started to learn how to ride with her giving me lessons. Very fun and exciting horseback riding is. In terms of toys, she likes stuffed animals. I got her a MIB Beast Wars Neo Mach Kick (who is a horse) and generally lean towards getting her Beast Wars stuff in terms of Transforming robots, since she loves animals so much. She is not really into dolls. She's got a bunch of old dolls, and lots of old plastic farm animals - but they mainly sit in bags. She actually is not all that into models, figures and what not. Her "pleasant vice" is video games. She spends hours playing SIMS and other games on her computer and generally is way into games (I'm totally not). In terms of Macross, she has watched a couple of episodes of SDFM TV with me and rather enjoyed it; though she wasn't too clear on what was going on. She's also grooved to Nekki Bassara on M7. But is she way into Macross? No. She knows I like it and therefore takes a passing interest in it - she could recognize the characters. She realizes that there are airplanes in it which turn into robots. I don't see any other kids coming my way on the horizon - so I think my collection is going to stay with me Pete

The computer and electronics super geek thread

Thanks a bundle guys. I'll do this tomorrow. Right now I'm remembered why TS Eliot wrote that April was the cruelest month of all - and it has nothing to do with lylacs breeding in the wind or whatever the rest of that poem was. Bad enough I have to do my taxes (sometimes it seems like I'm just paying my accountant to sign forms which I had to fill out anyways), but the customs agency I'd been using has gone bankrupt and their debts seem to have been sold to a debt collection agency, which is trying to convince me I owe them money- even though I paid that money to the customs agency before it went belly up Swell. April is beauraucrat month for sure. Nothing like a good malware computer virus to give it all the feeling of abject infernal hell I just hope I pass my freeking drivers exam and can have my own car in a month and drive away on a sweet vacation Pete -
This is a hard subject. My gutt instinct was to go with some of the other guys with the whole "screw her! Valks before hoes!" argument and all that. But then - you're completely right about how being the pimp means fighting only the battles that are really worth getting into. My girlfriend knows that my collection means everything to me and that she's spent the last five years in a relationship with a total FANBOY. If she really hated it I think she would have totally gotten rid of me by now. Then again - it helps we don't live together. She has a ton of woman stuff (clothes, boots, shoes, high heels etc etc etc) and I buy her stuff for presents. She doesn't give me grief over my hobby. In fact, she mainly gives me grief over other things. It's been ages since she's complained about my collecting. Mainly all I hear is "you have to wash your shoes" (I think they're clean, but she's got this crazy cleaning phobia) and she often complains that I eat like a slob or that I talk to much or am too loud or have no manners or am too rough on her in bed etc etc etc. In other words: MY STRATEGY: DO SO MUCH BAD SH!T TO YOUR WOMAN THAT YOUR VALKS WILL BE THE LEAST OF HER WORRIES Works every time Pete Congrats on the kid

Thanks for the pointers. I'll do that. Pete -
Sideswipe isn't bad. But he's too "bad ass" for my taste. It was enough that they made ONE character who looked like a flaming stereotypical badass just by virtue of looking at him - namely Hotrod. But I generally don't like TFs whose character revolves around "I'm so slick" and who prove it by having that kind of design. grumbling Pete

PROBLEM SOLVED. Question to the experts: I'm doing my taxes now and therefore my guard was down and I got dupped by a rougue spyware program called "Personal Antivirus." I don't know why I let it onto my computer, I didn't give them credit card info or anything like that - but I can't erase the thing from my computer because it's gone and hidden itself somewhere and keeps telling me that unless I pay them NOW my super infected computer will blow up due to viruses that don't exist. How can I get rid of Personal Antivirus? Help, Edit: ok - I'm downloading this in the hopes of getting rid of this crap: http://remove-malware.net/how-to-remove-pe...e-anti-spyware/ Still - any advise would be useful. Edit 2: Ah flying frickin flamable frgrrmerger grah... That thing also wants my money Now I'm installing a trial norton antivirus...hopefully it'll get rid of this crud Pete PROBLEM SOLVED -
I go away for one short easter break weekend, and what happens? This thread descends into drag queens, homosexuals and pleas for members to show off their wives and girlfriends in fetish costumes Speaking of which. My girlfriend recently surprised me with a beautiful white dress (not for me, but for HER) which is uncannily similar to the one Ranka has on when she is recognized after the premiere of the Birdman in episode 10 of MF She asked me to buy her some "cowgirl shoes" to go with it (again like the ones Ranka wears). Moral? Show your girlfriend some anime pics and they will get the picture especially if they see that the stuff our anime girls wear actually makes great fashion sense Pete

Very nice Jasonc It looks like a first rate officer's jacket and not like a lot of the cheap costumes that swirl around. It's obvious lots of work went into that and yeah - it's the kind of thing you could actually wear Excellent Pete

Meh Gold platiing is so passee... Can't Bandai make a SOC Gundam RX 78 2? That would be cool - but then again I guess the modelers would be bummed Pete
