  1. It isn't for you? (admittedly I like anything that has Harrison Ford in it ) seriously, I was in the checkout line at safeway yesterday and I saw her picture on the cover of Vanity Fair. She looks like they dressed up f*cking Skeletor as Elvira.
  2. As over the top as Gibson's script was (and there are some pretty crazy elements in there no doubt) I personally still feel like it would have made a better sequel and would have been more true to the franchise. I think it really comes down to what one thinks constitutes an Alien movie. I can see how Alien3 can feel more in the same vain as the original film, but personally I think that any sequel to Aliens should match the kind of escalation between the first and second movies. from the Alien to Aliens you go from a small group of unprepared people fighting a single creature, to a group of well armed and prepared soldiers fighting a hoard of creatures; so logically (to me anyways) the next step should be guys with bigger guns fighting hoards of bigger, scarier creatures.
  3. this image will haunt me for the rest of my natural life
  4. The space monk script was actually the last script turned in before the Walter Hill and David Giler (the producers) took over and wrote their own script. The idea was that Ripply's escape pod lands on a mile wide satellite constructed mostly of wood that's being used as a monastery by monks. as stupid as the idea sounds, and despite retaining some of the worst aspects of the final film (i.e. killing of everyone from the last movie but ripply) I still think it would have made a better movie than what we got. I think that visually it would have been really interesting, having these very medieval looking sets punctuated by the kind of cold, industrial look of the first two films and the serial alien environments. definitely more interesting than "more pipes and corridors" I'd say that what's really killed the alien franchise is too much meddling on the part of the producers and the studio executives. Sigourney Weaver being allowed to dictate so much of the franchise isn't helping, but even that is a direct result of Joe Roth's insistence that if an Alien movie gets made, Ripply HAS to be in it. That's pretty much where the earliest draft of the script for the third movie was going. The first script by William Gibson involved the Sulaco arriving on a Weyland-Yutani run space station and introduces a group of space communists who have developed alien bio-weapons using a face hugger and what was left of bishop which they stole off the Sulaco while it was in transit. Ripply would have been completely absent form the film and it would have instead focused on hicks and bishop fighting Space commies, the company, and super aliens that now have the ability to infect people with a virus THAT TURNS THEM INTO ALIENS. This version of the film fell through because the producers kept wanting Gibson to make revisions to the script and finally he got sick of it and quit. from there Eric Red was brought on and turned in a really interesting but totally not aliens script which caused the the director to quit. Red was then fired and replaced by David Twohy (of Pitch Black fame) finally produced a finished screenplay (that was eerily similar to Aliens 4), but was dumped because Joe Roth thought there wasn't enough ripply in the film and then director Vincent Ward wanted to do his own story anyways (Vincent wards script was the one about the space monks).
  5. seconded. I can dig the idea of making the VF-19kai very bulked out in battroid mode and the cost of fighter mode as the fire valk is a very battroid-centric design. the VF-17 not so much. I've never actually liked how bulky the VF-17 looks in the line art, and I think it would be a wast to make and awkward, chubby fighter just to have a chubby robot. Also we know that the VF-17 looks good when you make it skinny and fighter-centric (i.e. VF-171)
  6. OH TEH NOES!!! PAINT AND MARKINGS ARE CHIPPING, MASSIVE QC FAIL!!!!!11!one! it's not like we're looking at pictures of a painted resin prototype or anything.
  7. it looks really great in battroid mode, but I have a feeling it's going to look terrible in fighter mode. (it's the VF-19, you just can't have it both ways.)
  8. I think that sounds absolutely awful. fixed for you. the shoulder problem is only common on the first 4~5 releases. All new releases starting with the Max type VF-1S has been fixed (except for the VF-1J+GPB armor bundle, which used old VF-1J stock from 2008). here's a list of every macross toy ever released: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=29393 if what you're buying is from 2009 or later, it's probably safe. as for the canopy thing: The inner surface of the canopy has a coating that gives it a reflective, "rainbow" tint. The stuff is fairly delicate and on occasions will just start peeling off. If it does, just take some tissue paper dipped in rubbing alcohol and rub the stuff off. As for the hip thing: something like 3~4 people have snapped the peg off the back of the hip/intake on there VF-1D. it's a limited number of isolated cases that appear to be mostly the result of the person separating parts with excessive force, and the part that's breaking isn't even vital to the transformation/stability of the toy.
  9. goddamnit sonofa... CANNOT UNSEE!!!!
  10. what gets me about this is that right under the gun pod thing on here arm you've got a couple of gray shapes seperated by a curved, pick triangle. and the more I look at it the harder it is to figure out just what the sh/t is going on with her lower body. are we looking at both her legs sticking out from below that gunpod? is that pink trianglesupposed to be her ass or something? how the hell is that even connected to what's going on with her upper body? God f*cking damnit tommy LEARN TO HUMAN ANATOMY!
  11. I'm praying for lots of RD news in general. I praying for armored VF-25's (F and S types) and a cheyenne Mk.II from MacF; Also I really want to see more Gundam Unicorn RD's come out (Sinanju, Jesta, Rozen zulu, etc...). Now I'm sad, I want an Aqua type griffon so bad.
  12. I would ask Who the f*ck is Jack Baker? Then I would ask why do I care enough to post in this thread? then I would leave.
  13. Fair enough. Personally though, I (as someone who hasn't actually SEEN the movie yet) don't feel like the scene is misrepresenting the nature of the film, even if it doesn't depict it's content. I watch that scene and the impression I get is "some people gonna get reap'd by Predators" which (based on everything else I've seen/heard about this film so far) is pretty much the movie. as long as the trailer communicates the general spirit of the movie, I'm fine with them using original footage. I honestly think it's MUCH better and less deceptive than a trailer that uses only scenes from the film, but edits them together in such a way as to imply a viewing experience that's completely different from the movie you go to see.
  14. I don't see the big deal. It's better than the trailer spoiling 90% of the film.
  15. what are you talking about, this is like my ONLY tactic in MW2.
  16. *looks at time stamp* Isn't it a bit early to be drinking?
  17. well I just have to disagree with your disagreement then. Igloo was by far the most painfully flat, one-note mess I've ever watched related to Gundam. Every single character is a ridiculously over-the-top cardboard cut-out of a war movie stereotype. None of the vignettes are remotely compelling or interesting, it's just one pandering Nazi Zeon fanboy wankfest after another; Exalting the Arian glory of Zeon as it fights the tyranny of the federation. Seriously, the Nazi overtones throughout are more than a little creepy. Also Igloo is just plain ugly. the characters all look like spazzing Realdolls; absolutely disturbing. Not even the mecha combat looks that good. the Mobile suites themselves all make extremely jerky, awkward movements (particularly in space sequences), and everything else flies around ridiculously fast for something it's size and drifts like this was initial D or something. so yeah; I hate it visually, I hate it narratively, I hate the characters, I hate the stupid retcons, I hate the blatant Nazi overtones... there's nothing I like about this mess.
  18. yeah, I generally like dry transfers better than water-slides as they're less tedious to apply (doing the full sheet of dry transfers took about 6~8 hours, doing only the water-slides on the armor (no red decals and no weapon decals) took closer to 16 hours. ) but it's a hell of a lot easier to apply water-slides to complex shapes like the leg thrusters. For the gold trim, I just used a Gundam marker and a very fine tip brush to hand apply the gold. then I went in with a black Gundam marker (the fine tip one for panel lining) to cover up any stray gold. What really makes it look clean and even though is that I sealed the parts with two wet coats of future from an airbrush.
  19. I haven't posted anything in a while so here's my just finished MG Sinanju. (Click any photo to view the slide show)
  20. I just wanted to show off a little mod I did as well. I didn't like the little claw attachment for the shield, it barely stays attached and it gouges into paint on the arm, so I decided to take some magnets originally intended for a VF-25 kit and used them to make a peg-less, clamp-less and mark-less connection for the shield. the shield bracket (made from epoxy glue) is a little rough but as is the inside of the arm armor because I didn't decide to do this until after the rest of the kit was 100% finished. I got lazy and decided to call it good enough.
  21. Ok, Now I'm really finished with this one. do to poor prep-work on my part and the fact that Testors Dullcote is junk in terms of durability the clear coat I put down before started flaking off badly, so I decided to start over and do a proper paint job. I stripped the old paint off, wet sanded all the parts with 600 grit sandpaper, then primed and sprayed the whole kit with Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red. finally I redid all the decals with Bandai water-slides and sealed everything in Tamiya TS-80 flat clear. also I sprayed the inside of the thrusters with tamiya flat yellow acrylic for contrast, and sprayed the beam saber blades with Testors Model master turn signal ember enamel (it's a semi-clear orange with a little bit of metal flake in it, I sprayed the parts so they have a gradient from very opaque orange near the base to almost nothing at the tip. The metal flake doesn't show up in pictures but the effect is great in person.) Click here or on any picture to view the slide show (from unpainted to finished)
  22. I honestly wouldn't wait if you actually want it. It's very rare that figures like this sell slow enough to end up going on clearance. Also keep in mind that these figures tend to be produced in single, low number runs. If you wait and it sells out, There's no way to get it other than paying out the ear on auction sites. (learned that lesson the hard way... ) If all you're going to contribute in this thread is mocking other peoples taste in hobbies, why even post here (other than to troll and flame-bait)?
  23. technology which they proceed to sit on for thousands of years with little to no advancement. (if we DO count AvP, then they're clearly shown using the exact same gear now as they where using before the pyramids where built.) the 1 predator was able to do that because it had active camouflage, blade weapons that can cut through anything, and thermal optics with motion tracking sights tied to a directed energy canon. At no point did the alien ever show any kind of advanced tactics or particular cunning, it just utterly outgunned everyone. Everyone they managed to kill died because they tried to take the predators head on, fighting force and technology with inferior force and technology. Once the main character starts trying to out think the predator rather than go at it with the biggest stick they can get a hold of, they're able to take them out.
  24. yes, and that's why it's awesome.
  25. honestly, MS Igloo isn't worth the hard drive space. Just watch it on YouTube if you HAVE to see it.
