The only thing that comes to mind is that the images and some parts of the description that I looked closely at were almost exactly like what Dr. Michio Kaku described as a how to make an anti-object force field in a Discovery show (anti-object, because what was being used as the "beam" to create the force field "net" couldn't stop photons...).

ST:TNG is running on Super Drama TV in Japan (gotta love that cable station name). But alas, it's at an unfriendly time slot (for me). Not to mention that I just spent the last year crawling through all 7 seasons (original version). I really like the remastering of the live action footage that they're doing for it - some of it looks incredible now. Taksraven - I think one of the reasons why it didn't get axed was because it was released direct to syndication. There was no one channel that had the ability to quickly axe it, and Paramount was very positive about new ST TV episodes until the early 2000's, as well.

And don't forget: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VF-171/VF171.php (stuff in green is official, stuff in steelblue is semi-official) and you can find a bunch more info browsing around here: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/ (and as Macross Chronicle and Great Mechanics.DX keep cropping up in recent topics these days, the direct links for their TOC's): http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/OTgreatmechanicsDX.php http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/MCindex.php

If you don't have something to suck up the fumes, it's best to spray paint outside. The sticks and clips are to keep each part separate to give access to all of their while being painted to give them an even layer of paint. I generally only spray paint a clear-coat on, but even using only a lowly paintbrush, the sticks and clips method works wonders. Top tip: make the sticks out of disposable chopsticks. Use masking tape to attach the parts to the sticks. Use a rolled up (or folded up) cardboard box (taped up, cut in half) as a holder for the sticks.

Those aren't ducts. They are nothing more than an expansion joint that collapses when it transforms into Battroid (like Venetian blinds). See here for further details: http://www.macross2.net/m3/macrossplus/yf-21/yf-21-transformation1.gif (note how far forward the engine nacelle slides in the open position).- 278 replies

Real World Technical References of Macross Variable Aircraft
sketchley replied to charger69's topic in Movies and TV Series
There are some big, glaring questions not being addressed with this: what is the environment? What are the gravity conditions? For example, the VF-11 are routinely seen in M7 making vertical takeoffs in outer space off a low gravity carrier deck, and the aforementioned VE-1 is seen making a vertical take off inside a Zentraadi spaceship in space - which may or may not have a much lower gravity and less dense atmosphere than Earth does. Now, assuming that the official stats that say that the VF-1 is VTOL capable are written from the perspective that it is occurring in conditions like those on the surface of the Earth, than in that specific instance, it can only be done using vernier thrusters. It's not very efficient, probably consumes a large volume of the manoeuvring fuel load, but it is highly probable. And if the VF-1 can do it, presumably all subsequent VFs are capable of doing it. I get the sense that this is for some type of RPG or gaming. In that case, I recommend letting the players get away with it, but penalizing them later with the vernier thrusters that they used to do the VTOL running out of fuel (and no, fuel from other vernier thrusters cannot be moved internally to the other ones in other parts of the fuselage.)- 278 replies

The main problem the VF-1 has in space is lack of fuel - it's like one of the Russian fighters (the Su-27?) which has been derisively referred to as only being good at protecting its own base, due to its lack of internal carried fuel. The VF-1's FAST Packs are mostly a bunch of additional fuel tanks, with a pair of limited duration large boosters strapped on top (despite them being used constantly in the anime, at max thrust they only carry 150 seconds of fuel!), and a few additional armaments - which go hand in hand with its increased endurance in combat (endurance in the sense of length of time that can be spent on the battlefield).

The Super Parts are supposed to be purge-able. So, once their fuel/armament loads are consumed, they get dropped, but the VF-11C still has engine nacelle armaments.

Indeed. Officially it's a limited production. You're making a fanfic, so anything goes, right? That said, you can just out and say that your fleet was one of the few that produced the MAXL in large numbers (like the Galaxy Fleet and the VF-27), or pick and choose the parts you like from it, and apply them as you see fit (eg: replacing the standard engines with downtuned MAXL engines [properly tuned ones are too powerful for the unreinforced airframe of the standard VF-11). Expanding on that last point, you could say that because the engines are too powerful for the airframes, the near end-of-life-VF-11 were removed from special forces duties, downtuned, and given to the canon fodder pilots to maximize the fleet's investment in them by lengthening their end of life period! (Or the MAXL airframes themselves had to be scrapped due to over-stressing, but the engines were recycled, or something to that effect)

Not the MAXL Kai, the MAXL. Mylene's Sound Force fighter is a customization of a MAXL (or the wordy wording: a customization of the MAXL customization of the VF-11). Ahhh... the water technique works best for large stickers where its much harder to eyeball placement. That said, try and avoid balls of water. Nevertheless, those small ones... I always use a blade edge to apply them (the same exacto blade used for cleaning up the sprue marks on the pieces): get a small part of the decal on the sharp edge of the blade, and use that to transfer it from the decal sheet to the kit. Keep the sticker from touching the plastic until your satisfied with the placement, and affix the larger portion onto the plastic (a soft, blunt tool (fingernail?) should do the trick), and gently remove the blade from under the sticker.

Why not use the VF-11MAXL? It's an upgraded VF-11 that's part of the official setting already. It also has a lot of mystique surround it, and appears to have been limited to special forces and other elite groups. Here's my best guess for it: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VF-11/VF11MAXL.php That makes perfect sense. Alas, there's already a precedent for it: in "Macross 7 Trash" (set in the M7 Fleet), VF-4 are shown being used during training. It'd only require changing the specification to the VF-11D or a derivative of it. Heh... that brings back memories of something whipped up during my RPGing days: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/Avionics/VFPallet.php

Those are sticker type decals, right? Before applying the decals, put a bit of water on the part where you're placing the decal with a Q-tip. When you get it in roughly the right position, gently roll the moist end of a Q-tip over it to soak up the water. That technique should make placement much, much easier. Just take care not to put too much stress on the decal itself. And if you're using water based ink for panel lining, be extra careful when wiping the excess water from them. I've also read in places about cutting larger decals into more manageable sizes, and/or scoring parts of the larger decals that are placed on (or around) curved parts to get the best fit (though I haven't tried either techniques)...

Thus the specific "in the VF-11C". It's unclear if they are present on the other models - or even only limited to the VF-11C in the M7 fleet. Nevertheless, they're also present on the VF-11MAXL... It's the main fighter in the 13th Emigrant Fleet (the one that discovered/explored Varohta).

The internal weapon bays are standard in the VF-11C (http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VF-11/VF11.php#OFFENSIVE_SYSTEMS). The engines up-tuning would be part of a normal upgrade cycle for the aircraft. However, upscaling the design doesn't seem to be worth the effort (speaking in-universe). It'd make more sense to micronize the internal systems, thus freeing up space inside the existing airframe. The in-universe equivalent to the Super Hornet enhancements would be the VF-11MAXL. Nevertheless, some things you should be considering is who the primary operators are (as in Emigrant Fleet, planet defence force, etc), and what is their primary use of the fighter? In universe, the VF-11 and VF-14 competed for the main fighter seat, and even though the VF-11 won that, and became the main fighter and was employed in Emigrant Fleets and so on, the VF-14 saw extensive use in places like the Emigrant Planets - which prized its robustness, ease of maintainability, and excess internal space. Maybe the VF-14 is better suited for your fan fic needs?

The YF-21/VF-22 thrust vectoring wasn't inspired by the ATD-X - as the later was developed from 2005, whereas the former was designed in 1993. Those thrust vectering plates come from the X-31: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockwell-MBB_X-31 (1990 to 1995).- 278 replies

One of my projects is running a website dedicated to Macross RPG stats: http://sdfyodogawa.mywebcommunity.org/Stats/index.php Over the years, I've found myself becoming the repository of lost Macross RPG stat sites, such as the UNSDB and Steelfalcon. In the process of restoring and incorporating the stats into my site, I've discovered that I'm missing some stats. Any assistance in providing the following stats would be greatly appreciated: Currently searching for: all up to date Same list, updated more frequently: http://sdfyodogawa.mywebcommunity.org/Stats/Statistics/LostAndFound.php EDIT 2015.09.06: also fixed links to the latest host

I think it was more an episode that was scripted (either in the same of a story idea or a fully written episode) that they decided not to do during the TV series run, and animate later, as Gubaba stated. It was only given an 'episode number' years and years later, and even then, the episode 'number' is "Encore" or "Macross 7 Encore"...

Ghost in the Shell Live Action - March 31, 2017
sketchley replied to Mechinyun's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Heh. I'm refusing to watch the movie, too - but for different reasons. It was too soon for a reboot (even my 12 year old students were complaining about that at the time!) Fully agreed. It doesn't matter who is playing the *main* instance of the character, as she changes bodies all the time. Just get different actresses to play the different bodies. It can be done, and done well (ref: "Inception"). Each version of GitS does something different. Even SAC started to embellish details, especially with certain characters to add dimension and give something for the audience to hold onto. I don't think any of the animated releases have been a 1:1 retelling of Masamune Shirow's original story. I do think they are all heavily influenced by it. Agreed. I really liked the movie versions - probably because they took a philosophical approach to what's going on (like how they take the time to develop the epic-ness of the encounter in "Alien"). The TV series, on the other hand, has other merits. It has a lot of the "fun" things that weren't in the movie, but also develop things in new directions. I really liked their exploration of cybernetics and disease (and diseases specifically related to cybernetics). It was something that the manga was just starting to dabble into, but didn't have the time (err, page count) to fully delve into.- 751 replies

Variable Fighter Books - English Translations

That's the question I've been wrestling with. Some parts are invaluable (Eg: alternate variants) and some things are just... munchkin (Eg: the missile loads in the FAST Packs). Ultimately, I've resolved to do the descriptions of the variants when I get a round toit...
