  1. I occasionally spot the "space cucumber" kits in Mandarake. ¥500 to ¥800 each. Not that expensive at all. Mind you, the kits aren't that big either.
  2. Regarding remakes: if they're going to remake anything, they'll do it as a 3 part movie version. Since SDF:M has DYRL, I highly doubt that we'll see any more remakes. A second season of Macross Frontier? That is possible, but my impression is that there won't be. A new series? time will tell.
  3. Newtype 2008.10 breakdown, and translations of the mecha related paragraphs in the article(s): http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/inde...ic=1918.new#new (yeah... it doesn't say much that we don't already know, or can infer from the series.)
  4. Funny how the article on the back of the poster in the October 2008 Newtype got missed... what with it's interview with Shoji Kawamori and Haruhiko Mikimoto AND fun things like "February 2009" and in big bold letters "MACROSS BEGINS". Funny how that got missed in the scans and mobile phone pictures.
  5. Yeah, as JBO said. My impression was that he confessed his love AFTER being dealt a mortal wound.
  6. Funny how that's come up before: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?show...st&p=485589
  7. Not scans. But blurry mobile phone photos of a TV guide!
  8. Correct. The main fighter of "Macross 3D VFX" was supposed to be the VF-5000. When production of the show went belly up, they reused some of the animation they had created in the intro of VF-X2.
  9. Buddhism?
  10. I think he's referring to the mobile phone snaps of a TV guide. You guys are seeing those, right?
  11. If one is talking about Japanese to English (or viceversa), go with: http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/sjis/dict Result: 少佐【しょうさ】 (n) major; lieutenant commander; wing commander; (P) Or Ask Jim Breen: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi Results in: 少佐 【しょうさ】 (n) major; lieutenant commander; wing commander; (P) [Ex][G][GI][A][W] 少佐は大尉の上官である。 A major is above a captain.[Amend] Going with the UNS = air force type ranks, then Wing Commander would be the appropriate translation.
  12. Ahh... understandable. But in the Philippines case, it could be a third party, such as the ones that sabatoged Magsaysay's plane. Or later left Subic bay...
  13. Aren't they doing it to be better equipped when they battle against colonies that have gone "anti-un" (I believe that was the prime reason behind the AVF project), and to keep pace with developments made by Zentraedi? Also, there would probably be a pretty decent economic stimuluous from the equivalent of the "military-industrial complex". Rogue companies selling for a few extra bucks makes sense. But so too does having these "anti-un" forces stealing the equipment.
  14. Ah, but one must keep in mind the following: VF-5000: (...) began (...) in 2011. (...) First flight 2018. Mass production of VF-5000 started 2020. Assumed the United Nations Forces' main fighter designation from the VF-4 (due to its lower costs) beginning in the later half of the 2020s until the VF-11 Thunderbolt's introduction. Mass production ends in 2029. VF-9: Development began in 2018, and the first flight occurred in 2021. (...) Mass production began in 2023 and ended in 2029. As I have understood it, this topic is asking about the very first colonization missions; the ones between 2012 and 2020. Even if we consider up until the 2025 (I'm guesstimating that's about the time the last Megaroad Class led colony fleet left), the majority of fighters would be the VF-4 and the VF-1. I don't think there would be an extensive use of the VF-5000 even when it was available, as the VF-5000 is primarily an atmospheric fighter, and colony missions are, well, generally not in an atmosphere until they've completed their mission, years? decades? later.
  15. Old article. Translated it months ago (heh heh. Never got around to writing it up, nor posting it. Heh.) VF-25 Messiah's on the money. As for why he wrote Stealth Crusier Space Crusier: it's because the katakana name for it is "Stealth Cruiser" and the kanji name for it is "Space Cruiser". Given the presentation of other Macross ships and their names, it means that the ship is named "Stealth Cruiser", and the type of ship is a "space cruiser."
  16. Me thinks it's either the DYRL version, or a FAST pack version. EDIT: jsut to be clear, I was replying to Sharky's post in #324
  17. Don't worry. Given what's happened with the previous "successful" Macross releases, it's highly likely that we'll see more Macross F (or another new Macross production.) Keep in mind: SDF:M -> DYRL, FB2012 (and all the other Macross series) M7 -> Galaxy is Calling, Dynamite, 3x bonus episodes. I won't be surprised if we get a movie, an OVA series, and perhaps even bonus episodes.
  18. Ah poo, forgot to add this earlier: the VF-1 is a multi-purpose fighter (as sucker4meltrans stated.) I remember reading somewhere that the VF-4 is an intereceptor. Therefore, it'd make sense to have multiple types of fighters on a colony mission (VF-4 Interceptors, multi-role VF-1, VT-1 trainers, VE-1 AWACS, etc.. Perhaps even the VC-1 for construction purposes. Though, I don't recollect ever having seen an actual start of production date for the VC-1...
  19. I did a rough translation of how the thing is supposed to be organized earlier in this thread: http://macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?s=&a...st&p=630978 To be honest, I've been organizing it SDF:M -> DYRL -> M+ etc. Though, thinking about it now, it does make sense to put DYRL in a different part. For starters, to keep the SDF:M and DYRL stuff seperated. I, too, hoped that there would be more dividers for the song/gallery/goods/etc.. Ah well... make our own?
  20. http://macross.anime.net/mecha/zentradi/va...laug/index.html As usual, it's very, very vague. I can interpret the desciption multiple ways. Therefore, here: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%B0%E3%....83.BC.E3.82.B8 Basically, "it appears as classified weapons that Zentraedi dissidents have obtained from Earth technology, and developed". Again, not clear at all. Though, by the loose definition, the Zentraedi dissidents are "anti-UN", and there is the possibility that the construction method for the Variable Gluag (Zentraedi version) got out before the UNS attack on the weapon plant. Though, as the UNS co-opts the design, develops it (micron version and AI version), it's most likely that any "anti-UN" used units are captured from the UNS. But that's just my take on what limited info we have available.
  21. One thing that must be kept in mind is that the Anti-UN existed only as a single organization, pre-SWI. Even then, it's called the "Anti-Unification Alliance", and my guess is that it is quasi-national (as in, nations that didn't want to join the unification are behind it.) Post SWI, any group that is against the UNG (or NUNG) can be labeled "the Anti-UN", but they are rarely, if ever, working together. Let alone towards the same goals. Of the machines pictured above: The first three, from VF-X2, are used by the Vinderance Terrorist group. So, too, are the Annabella Lasiodora and the Gjagravan-Va. The Variable Glaug pictured, is a UNS Valkryie. However, the Neo-Gluag (designed before the Variable Glaug, but appears later in the timeline). The Neo-Glaug, at least in the game, is just another drone taken over by Sharon Apple. Who, by her actions, is Anti-UN. http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/plus-game/neo-glaug.htm It's not an "Anti-UN" mecha per se. But just like any other VF, it can be used by them. Pheios Valkyrie was originally a test VF stolen by a group of rogue Zentraedi. Though, as it appears in both VF-X and VF-X2, it's most likely being reproduced. If I understand it correctly, it's made by the Critical Path Corporation (they also build the Annabella Lasiodora and Rorqual sub) and (sold to?) the Vinderance Terrorist group. the Enemy battlesuit is a big question mark. There's really no info on it and it appears to be nothing more than an opponent to throw at the VF-11 at the start of Macross Plus. The Reguld Custom through the Stealth QQ appeared in VF-X, and are part of the Boldoza style fleet that kidnaps the Milky Dolls and eventually tries to attack Earth. If anything, this group of Zentraedi supports any arguements about Zentraedi becoming more powerful/dangerous due to humans teaching them how to fix and make new war machines. The designs have shown up only once in Macross (unlike the Pheyos, originating in the same game.) I believe that they are one-off designs that disappeared when that Bodol wanna be fleet was destroyed. The Gjagravan Va is manufactured by Black Rainbow. I'm not clear if it is a terrorist organization, or a manufacturing organization like Critical Path. Checking my notes, the Vandal Class Attack Ship is also made by (for?) the Black Rainbow (terrorist) group. The Untamed Class by Critical Path.
  22. Looks like it stayed at the #3 spot for 2 weeks, then disappeared out of the top 10. What I find most interesting is that the 2001 release of Totoro pops up at 4th, slips to 6th, and then up to first! Go Totoro!
  23. Check the TIAtS: Macross Plus Movie Edition: the VF-1 was used in the first exploration of Eden. Now, this could be because the short range immigration fleet (SRIF) was only equipped with the VF-1. Or that the SRIF kept the VF-4 on combat patrol duty, and used the "older" VF-1 to do series exploration, once the military had given an all clear. It could also be that the VF-4 sucks when it comes to the flight characteristics needed when doing extensive exploration of a planet's surface. As the topic seems to have drifted slightly off topic to the numbers of VF-1 produced: keep in mind that the compendium, despite (or because?) being an excellent resource, isn't the ultimate authority. It must be kept in mind that it is both a translation as well as being based off of incomplete sources. By this, I don't mean that Egan Loo has limited access, just that there isn't that much material nor that much specific information out there (period). I also find it odd that the VF-1 wasn't continued to be manufactured. Why? Where did the VF-1X come from? What about the civilian versions? Yes, I feel that the information used in the compendium is from a dated article (perhaps produced around the time of the production of DYRL) that has never been updated by Kawamori, despite the appearance of numerous variants later in the timeline. Perhaps it was only mass production, or even mass production for the military/main fighter that stopped in 2015. Civilian production, which BTW, are the main people behind the colonization missions, given the evidence that we have, most likely continued at a decent rate. Let's also not forget that the VF-4 and VF-5000 used a bunch of parts from the VF-1. So, it's not that big of a stretch for production lines to switch from partial construction of the VF-1 (parts destined for use in other VFs) to full production. Automated facilities, such as the Factory Satellite and Three Stars also don't have to be extensively retooled. If anything, they have to be "dumbed down" to produce the lower tech VF-1!
  24. Terms of weapons and armour, Ozuma has the advantage. In terms of speed and manueverability, Alto has the advantage. In terms of wisdom and experience, Ozuma has the advantage. In terms of youthful energy and reaction speeds, Alto has the advantage. Going back to just the vehicles, it's been written somewhere (don't ask) that the Full Armour VF-25 is equal in speed to the base VF-25. Of course a Super parts tricked out VF-171 should be going faster than a base VF-25. More manueverable? The Super parts version is. At the very least, it has less mass to shove around. Let's also not forget that Ozuma first attempted to knock some sense into Alto by blinding him in the dust and debris from a clump of destroyed asteroids. Therefore, Alto's aim was off (POSSIBLY because he's in an unfamiliar fighter using unfamiliar weapons), and Ozuma hit exactly where he intended to hit.
