  1. http://macross.anime.net/mecha/zentradi/va...laug/index.html As usual, it's very, very vague. I can interpret the desciption multiple ways. Therefore, here: http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%B0%E3%....83.BC.E3.82.B8 Basically, "it appears as classified weapons that Zentraedi dissidents have obtained from Earth technology, and developed". Again, not clear at all. Though, by the loose definition, the Zentraedi dissidents are "anti-UN", and there is the possibility that the construction method for the Variable Gluag (Zentraedi version) got out before the UNS attack on the weapon plant. Though, as the UNS co-opts the design, develops it (micron version and AI version), it's most likely that any "anti-UN" used units are captured from the UNS. But that's just my take on what limited info we have available.
  2. One thing that must be kept in mind is that the Anti-UN existed only as a single organization, pre-SWI. Even then, it's called the "Anti-Unification Alliance", and my guess is that it is quasi-national (as in, nations that didn't want to join the unification are behind it.) Post SWI, any group that is against the UNG (or NUNG) can be labeled "the Anti-UN", but they are rarely, if ever, working together. Let alone towards the same goals. Of the machines pictured above: The first three, from VF-X2, are used by the Vinderance Terrorist group. So, too, are the Annabella Lasiodora and the Gjagravan-Va. The Variable Glaug pictured, is a UNS Valkryie. However, the Neo-Gluag (designed before the Variable Glaug, but appears later in the timeline). The Neo-Glaug, at least in the game, is just another drone taken over by Sharon Apple. Who, by her actions, is Anti-UN. http://www.mahq.net/mecha/macross/plus-game/neo-glaug.htm It's not an "Anti-UN" mecha per se. But just like any other VF, it can be used by them. Pheios Valkyrie was originally a test VF stolen by a group of rogue Zentraedi. Though, as it appears in both VF-X and VF-X2, it's most likely being reproduced. If I understand it correctly, it's made by the Critical Path Corporation (they also build the Annabella Lasiodora and Rorqual sub) and (sold to?) the Vinderance Terrorist group. the Enemy battlesuit is a big question mark. There's really no info on it and it appears to be nothing more than an opponent to throw at the VF-11 at the start of Macross Plus. The Reguld Custom through the Stealth QQ appeared in VF-X, and are part of the Boldoza style fleet that kidnaps the Milky Dolls and eventually tries to attack Earth. If anything, this group of Zentraedi supports any arguements about Zentraedi becoming more powerful/dangerous due to humans teaching them how to fix and make new war machines. The designs have shown up only once in Macross (unlike the Pheyos, originating in the same game.) I believe that they are one-off designs that disappeared when that Bodol wanna be fleet was destroyed. The Gjagravan Va is manufactured by Black Rainbow. I'm not clear if it is a terrorist organization, or a manufacturing organization like Critical Path. Checking my notes, the Vandal Class Attack Ship is also made by (for?) the Black Rainbow (terrorist) group. The Untamed Class by Critical Path.
  3. Looks like it stayed at the #3 spot for 2 weeks, then disappeared out of the top 10. What I find most interesting is that the 2001 release of Totoro pops up at 4th, slips to 6th, and then up to first! Go Totoro!
  4. Check the TIAtS: Macross Plus Movie Edition: the VF-1 was used in the first exploration of Eden. Now, this could be because the short range immigration fleet (SRIF) was only equipped with the VF-1. Or that the SRIF kept the VF-4 on combat patrol duty, and used the "older" VF-1 to do series exploration, once the military had given an all clear. It could also be that the VF-4 sucks when it comes to the flight characteristics needed when doing extensive exploration of a planet's surface. As the topic seems to have drifted slightly off topic to the numbers of VF-1 produced: keep in mind that the compendium, despite (or because?) being an excellent resource, isn't the ultimate authority. It must be kept in mind that it is both a translation as well as being based off of incomplete sources. By this, I don't mean that Egan Loo has limited access, just that there isn't that much material nor that much specific information out there (period). I also find it odd that the VF-1 wasn't continued to be manufactured. Why? Where did the VF-1X come from? What about the civilian versions? Yes, I feel that the information used in the compendium is from a dated article (perhaps produced around the time of the production of DYRL) that has never been updated by Kawamori, despite the appearance of numerous variants later in the timeline. Perhaps it was only mass production, or even mass production for the military/main fighter that stopped in 2015. Civilian production, which BTW, are the main people behind the colonization missions, given the evidence that we have, most likely continued at a decent rate. Let's also not forget that the VF-4 and VF-5000 used a bunch of parts from the VF-1. So, it's not that big of a stretch for production lines to switch from partial construction of the VF-1 (parts destined for use in other VFs) to full production. Automated facilities, such as the Factory Satellite and Three Stars also don't have to be extensively retooled. If anything, they have to be "dumbed down" to produce the lower tech VF-1!
  5. Terms of weapons and armour, Ozuma has the advantage. In terms of speed and manueverability, Alto has the advantage. In terms of wisdom and experience, Ozuma has the advantage. In terms of youthful energy and reaction speeds, Alto has the advantage. Going back to just the vehicles, it's been written somewhere (don't ask) that the Full Armour VF-25 is equal in speed to the base VF-25. Of course a Super parts tricked out VF-171 should be going faster than a base VF-25. More manueverable? The Super parts version is. At the very least, it has less mass to shove around. Let's also not forget that Ozuma first attempted to knock some sense into Alto by blinding him in the dust and debris from a clump of destroyed asteroids. Therefore, Alto's aim was off (POSSIBLY because he's in an unfamiliar fighter using unfamiliar weapons), and Ozuma hit exactly where he intended to hit.
  6. Damn, you're right. Probably skipped over it because it, the preceeding and the following were all katakana. (Me not like Katakana. Kanji all the way, baby!)
  7. Holy crap. I've been officially decultured. I was not expecting some of those plot twists at the end of the episode. Though, up until then, it was a nice character episode. I really enjoyed the catching up with a lot of the sub-characters. And I especially loved the Alto-Sheryl scene. "Will they, or won't they?"
  8. Beat you by 2 minutes!

  10. Quickie review (or how to justify buying Chronicles #4 when you have a bunch of Macross Books on the shelf): Note: this is all ignoring the Japanese text, which may or may not be the same as in the books mentioned.) ((Though, the first half of the "soldiers of the anti-unification alliance sheet is, well, if you've seen Macross 0 and know Macross history, it's nothing new. If it's your first experience with one or both, then it's all new info.) Fan Racer: Perfect Memory YF-21: aside from a new main image by Hidetaka Tenjin (though the composition of the image is nothing new, see M+ eps 01), it's all TIAS:MP and TIAtS:MP movie edition.) Guld Goa Boman: TIAS:MP and TIAtS:MP movie edition. Fijika Farukuramu: M7 animation Materials Timeline M0: MO DVD booklet Timeline SDF:M: Perfect Memory History Varuta Attack: new art, new graphic (Varuta fighter attack wave breaching M7 defensive lines) Worldguige: Eden: TIAS:MP and TIAtS:MP mOvie edition. Songs O-G Love, Silver Moon - Red Moon: I think I have the lyrics. If you've got the SDF:M CDs, you've got these. Super Dimension Super Live "Debut! Ranka Rii with Sheryl Nome" - new (picts of the real VA at the concert.) Goods Sheet: Bandai 1/72 VF-25F - new (though, I've seen some of the lineart of the VF-25 on the rear floating around before. Great to see some VF-25 lineart! Nose gear, nose transformation, etc..) Goods shheet: Nyan Kore (Nyan Nyan Collector Cards) - new (feels like a CM for the product...)
  11. Ah... but at the very least, putting them in the binder now has them organized by category. (mecha, character, timeline). Plus, isn't half the fun poring through this stuff again and again, and reminding ourselves of the little Macross things?
  12. In response to the title - a war criminal is almost always a member of the losing side of a war, as judged by the winners of the war. Therefore, the question is: who's going to win the war? If NUNS does, then she'll be a hero. If the Vajra do, then she'll most likely be killed along with everyone else and treated just like everyone else. If it becomes a compromise (this is Macross. Compromises aren't new, and my moneys's are on this), then past sins will have to be forgotten, as members of both sides are guilty.
  13. Aaa. I c. 3Q. Personally, I think they look like a Bolognese with a few extra dohickeys tacked on and the nose blunted. But, that's just me.
  14. Akizuki type? Where'd this name come from?
  15. The impression that I have is that the space-use only Super parts are earlier models, and the space and atmospheric (transatmospheric) Super parts are later models. Which is why I am left scratching my head over why the VF-25's Super parts are not atmospheric (or, at the very least, reentry capable). Mind you, given the number of references and homages to SDF:M, in a way it's not surprising. The VF-1's FAST packs were all "I don't give a damn about aerodynamics. More speed!". So, too, are the VF-25's.
  16. Boast? Nevertheless, I do find it odd that the VF-25 seems compelled to eject the Super parts when entering an atmosphere. Odd in that the Super Parts for the VF-11 (well one of them), the VF-17, the VF-19 and the VF-22 are transatmospheric (optimized for both space and atmospheric use, that is.) I'm not sure if they use some kind of ram jet or scram jet technology. However, it does look like the Super parts of the VF-25 have gone back to a non-air breathing design.
  17. You should have no problem. I haven't check Tsutaya if they carry it, but they should. And you know how there's a Tsutaya on every corner... Fingers crossed that it doesn't flood again when you're there.
  18. Anime magic. Break lines appear as needed.
  19. Personally, I like how Macross has continued along it's own themes, and not borrowed from other shows nor become clones of them. Biological weapons is one of the things that makes up Macross. Agreed that it strains credulity that the ASS-1 would land on Earth. But hey, if it didn't, there wouldn't be a show. As for the Zentraedi detecting it: From http://macross.anime.net/wiki/2009 So, it's not so much that the located it on they arrived on the same day, but that they happened to be able to detect the ASS-1's defold reaction that occured 10 years prior as it passed through an area 10 light years away. Perhaps their arrival just as it was activating was a coincidence, but then again, if they arrived earlier or later, the show would be vastly different.
  20. Actually, I hope that we get more on the Armored Valkyrie; at least a page worth. Leaving it as a foot note is rather... unsatisfactory.
  21. Yes. It's really unclear how many pages will be created for what. For example, Issue 3's Space Destroyer (Oberth) has M (for SDF:M), the UN Kite, Sheet 15, A. There could possibly be a sheet B (possibly more) for it; though I don't really see how as they've pretty much printed all the info on it. FYI, the VF-1J released in issues 1 and 2 are M, UN Kite, Sheet 02, A, B & C. Meaning that there could be an additional VF-1J sheet for DYRL, and any other appearances it may have made in other Macross animations... It's potentially very big... potentially.
