Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
sketchley replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
Sweet, some numbers. All 9 MF discs: 650,000 sold. All 7 CD albums: 1,200,000 sold. Live Concert attendees: more than 200,000. More than 70% consumption in 1 day in Akihabara. (Totally unclear on the context, let alone if it's the right translation) The series has had a long life (from 2008.04 to 2010.07 and beyond) -
This is an interesting point. It's true that with mass cloning, growing a replacement soldier is quite easy. However, we don't know cloning times (is it the time it takes to go from macron to micron size? Or is it on the scale of years, as depicted in SW2?) MC also states that though Factory Satellites dedicated to cloning exists, they are less common than the ones dedicated to manufacturing machines. On top of all that, we see the existence of medical technology: cybernetics. DYRL presents a more advanced version, and SDFM, especially with Buritai, whp appears to have a metal plate that's simply bolted on. So, the implications are that medical technology exists and is used, especially the heigher a soldier's rank and how much knowledge/experience they have. But on the other hand, life is still cheap.

Not only that, but Richard Dreyfuss is in it! What a riot. And Ving Rhames. Just for those three, it's worth seeing.

<Nods>. True. From circumstancial evidence it was clear they were giant humanoids, but little else. Therefore, in context, Roy's shock makes sense (I knew they were giant humanoid aliens, but aliens that look exactly like us? WTF!) Of course, given the more alien look of the Zentraadi, couple with more uses of Zentraadi cybernetics, one wonders if Roy would have the same reaction in the "Macross: The First" version.

See first definition here: http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/sjis/dosearch?sDict=on&H=PS&L=J&T=%93%9D%8D%87&WC=none Hmmm... Integrated Government. Integrated Forces. Integrated Space Force. Unified Government. Unified Forces. Unified Space Force Union Government. Union Forces. Union Space Force. Merged Government. Merged Forces. Merged Space Force. Common Government. Common Forces. Common Space Force (meaning starting to get distorted here) Hmmm... Ps, you've gotta check your terminology. There's a lot of innaccurate translations on the fan subs: - Unification Wars: outcome of this discussion will result in the correct term for the war (singular, not plural): 統合戦争. - New UN: same as previous, though it's usually rendered as New (??) Government: 新統合政府 or New (??) Forces: 新統合軍. - colonies: emigrant/immigrant planets: 移民惑星. - colony ships: emigrant/immigrant ships. Technically, emigrant/immigrant fleets is most correct: 移民船/移民船団.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ok. In short: there's been no mention heretofore of a VF-19E outside of this publication (that I know of and memory serves). On the other hand, Kawamori Shouji is listed as the books "supervisor". In other words: it's definitely unclear if the VF-19E is canon or not. -
Which is odd, given the circumstances (VF-1 deliberately sized to go hand to hand with giant aliens, et al.) So, either there's some artistic license going on in that scene (Roy's shock is to reinforce Hikaru's), deliberate misinformation in the UN Forces (youse VF pilots are battling giant robots, 'tis all), or Roy simply forgot or wasn't paying attention during that briefing. If memory serves, Great Mechanics.DX makes a point of saying that the (known) Zentraadi equipment before the first encounter had energy conversion armour, and that weapons, such as the GU-11 were deliberately designed to overcome Zentraadi SW-AG. Of course it's probably a bit different than what appeared in SDFM, et al, but it reinforces the point that the UN Forces had at least a partial understanding of who, what they'd be fighting, and especially their capabilities. (This can be seen most clearly in the VF-1 for the aforementioned reasons, as well as the way oversized scaling of the weapons on the Oberth Space Destroyers).

Question for y'all: So far, I've been translating 統合軍 as UN Forces (consistant with the logo's emblazed on craft seen in-unvirse). However, due to fan confusion on UN = United Nations (when it doesn't) and the actual appearance of UN (= United Nations) in some M0 content, I've been struggling to come up with a better term to use. So far, I think: 統合政府 = Unified Government is the best. However, I don't like what becomes of 統合軍 = Unified Forces (as there's a different conotation). I personally dislike "Unity Government", as there's the nuance of trying to get others to join. Unification Government also has similar nuances. What are your thoughts? EDIT: of course there's always UNified Forces. But that looks like a typo...

I've been waffling over posting this or not, but it's become clear that this resource of translated and organized material should be a little bit more visible for the Macross community. http://sdfyodogawa.mywebcommunity.org/ Macross Translations All translations that I've made available on the internet are indexed under the Translations header. They are kept up-to-date as I add new translations to the web. The easiest way to check for new content is to refer to the revision date in the upper-left corner. Reviews Slowly growing. Check back for updates! Translation Tools Recommended, useful and accurate. Some require minimal Japanese knowledge to use. Sadly, some of the better ones have disappeared from the net. Sketchley Stats sister site: http://sdfyodogawa.mywebcommunity.org/Stats/index.php Note: if content is in green, it is canon. If it's not in green, it's based on educated speculation. Sketchley Statistics: All the equipment found in Macross that I know of. RPG stats are for the Palladium game engine. I've created the stats as: a) canon accurate (even if it's game unbalancing) b) game balanced & consistent with each other (therefore, they should be convertible to other game systems) Discussion on the stats is here: http://nomansland.site.nfoservers.com/MRG-Active-Archive/forums/index.php Locations Even though some things are guesses, it includes all of the canon location information I've come across. (Any assistance on locations that are missing would be appreciated!) Note to moderators: I've been waffling over posting this in this forum, or the Homepages forum. I opted for this section because of the canon Macross information in the translations section, as well as having the intent of posting future translations not worthy of their own topic herein. Thanks.

Nah... the heat and humidity is normal for summer. On the other hand, it's a lot dryer than usual (rainy season was close to a no-show). But this is all par for the course for an El-nino year. The odd weather this year is the tornado that hit about a week ago West of Tokyo. And the pair of tornado warnings for Hyogo that flashed across the screen a couple of weeks back. THAT's unusual. May I ask what country you're originally from? As people from different cultures have different perceptions of personal space.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Please read the earlier posts in this thread. Your question has the potential of opening a messy can of worms that no one wants to see reopenned. -
Alright, we're up to issue #28 as of today. It also has the first ad for the #31+ series (the new EVA movies). You can check it out, as well as the design of the binder on the inside of the back cover. So... in 3 weeks, the "new" content of the Evangelion Chronicle should be started. Does anyone know if it'll remain weekly, or if it'll change to a biweekly schedule?

Which is odd, when you think about it, as parts, if not the entire ship, were macron scale. Case in point: the size of the VFs and Destroids. Therefore, someone knew. Some people knew. Nevertheless, as the size of the aliens was known simply from the scale of the facilities, it doesn't support the assertion that there were remains of the crew onboard.

It's possible, but it's more likely that they abandoned ship, set it to fold with the rest of the fleet, but defold in a different location and much earlier than the rest of the fleet. Why? The whole "Boobytrap" thing.
-
We only have the indication that the Buritai fleet was searching for it from 10 light years away. Macross Chronicle also gives the approximate fold travel time from Eden to Earth as 18 to 24 hours, and 1 or 2 folds. Eden is 11.7 light years away. From those pieces of information, we can infer that the ASS-1 spent approximately 16 to 22 hours in fold to escape the Buritai fleet and did it in a single fold. Of course, that's presuming that the Buritai fleet was searching in the area that the ASS-1 folded from. They may have simply been searching areas that they suspected the ASS-1 to have defolded into, from some other part of the galaxy.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Found some quiet time (and energy) to get some more translating of the book done. Pg 66, 67, 68: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2553.msg39102#msg39102 (names of the wing armaments in the two charts, and names of all the wing ordinance) 76, 77: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2553.msg39103#msg39103 (YF-19. Some interesting information on the majority of the 8 YF-19 that were created). -
Could mean that the game is a series of challenges (aka trials) for the character of the game, and not that the game itself is a trial for an as yet to be announced game. One must keep in mind that the Engrish that appears from Japan doesn't always have the same meaning as English that a native speaker uses (or that native speakers from different native speaker countries or even regions of the same country have the same meaning).

Found something relevant in VFMF:VF-1 ARMD 09,10: 6 VF-1 squadrons (left with Megaroad-01) Megaroad 01: 8 VF-1 squadrons, 4 VF-4 squadrons. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe it states that there are 18 VF per squadron. (Which is slightly more than the 15 per squadron that the Macross Compendium lists, herein: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/U.N.#Valkyrie_VF-1_Air_Tactical_Wing.2FGroup ) I highly doubt that any of the Zentraadi ships would be carrying any VFs. Simply because of the relatively small passage of time after SWI, and the spread of resources over reconstruction, et al. So, that gives us a ballpark figure for the Megaroad-01 of: 72 VF-4 360 VF-1. 432 variable craft, total. The ratio of VF-4 to VF-1 of course changes as more VF-4 are produced (the Megaroad-01 leaves just after the VF-4 enters mass production). So, too would the total number of variable craft increase. Mostly because of more carrier-type ships becoming available. Anyhow, VFMF:VF-1 also mentions that as time passes, VF-1 squadrons changed over to the VF-4, VF-5, or VF-5000. Which is a big exclamation mark for me. In all this discussion, we've completely overlooked the role of the VF-5! Sure, it was a light-fighter a la the VF-9 designed for emigrant planets, but it is another VF that specializes in space combat. I'm certain that it's ability to land on water also made it appealing - simply for the diversity of missions it could perform.
-
http://macross.anime.net/wiki/ARMD#Armament I figure it's a safe bet that only 1/2 to 2/3 are actually the VF-4, the remainder being VF-1. In addition, I figure that later Megaroad launches would have less VF-4, possibly no VF-1, too. The balance being made up by VF-5000, VA-3 and so on.
-
No, no mention in MC. All we can infer is to double the total number of craft on an ARMD - as the Megaroad class appears to have a pair of them. As for the VF-4 being not up to snuff - one must keep in mind the background that it was made in. It started development before SWI, and was rushed to completion immediately after SWI. It doesn't truly take into consideration all of the lesson's learned during SWI. The VF-5000, on the other hand, does take into consideration the lesson's of SWI, as well as incorporates Zentraadi technology. So, in short, if the VF-1 is ver 1.0, the VF-4 would be ver 1.1. The VF-5000/9/3000 etc would be ver 1.5, and the VF-11/14 ver 2.0.

Wow... it's been about a month and a half since the last translation. Time flies! Finished Technology: 01q Variable Fighter: Variable Fighter VF family line diagram http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2264.msg39797#msg39797 I've also translated the titles of all of the Variable Fighter Technology sheets. I guess the quickest and easiest way to view them is this MC TOC of mine: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/portal/Chronicles.htm

Hmmm... no internal gun on the F-4. No gun pod on the VF-4. Hmmm... deep thoughts. Could it be that the VF-4 was great at long-range interception, but piss-poor at dogfights?

Nerdiest moment? Probably trying, half-seriously, half-in-jest, to get the wife to agree to name our son "Hikaru". As she said, "it's an old name" (as in, out of fashion, usually only people 70+ have it).
