  1. Isn't claiming that he likes it for no reason other than the homage scene painting him as both narcissistic and small minded (ie: it's only good because of the homage)? Isn't the movie about a lot more issues and ideas than that the one, IMHO unimportant, homage scene?
  2. Which surprised me. Nevertheless, "District 9" is one of those films, like "Three Kings", that is full of ideas and a bunch of messages. So, in some ways, it makes sense, as one could say that SDFM was quite similar.
  3. Macross Ace #006 comes with the following: - Sheryl, Ranka, Aruto poster (basically advertising for "Macross Frontier Memories" - Misa in bathing suit alternative cover for "Macross The First" vol 002. Macross F movie #2 article has the following: image of glowing red Macross Quarter under attack by Vajra. Attacked during reentry? Or is it a Fold Wave or Fold Barrier effect? Aruto AND Micheal's VF-25 in Tornedo Packs! Report on the Macross event in Pashifiko Yokohama (I think Tochiro wrote up his experiences going there) Macross the First: Kamjin! Destroid action! Attack happens while in the asteroid belt with heretofore unseen grabby arms coming out of a Zentraadi ship?!?!?!?! Macross Mechatronics: Swiss arm knife crossed with a mobile phone. Zentraadi size, of course. Macross ranking men: 1 Fokker 2 Ichijo 3 Aruto 4 Basara 5 Dyson 6 Max 7 Ozuma 8 Michael 9 Garudo 10 Luca women: 1 Sheryl 2 Minmei 3 Ranka 4 Misa 5 Kran Kran 6 Miria 7 Mireena 8 Sara Nome 9 Myun 10 Nanase mechanic: 1 VF-25F 2 YF-19 3 VF-1J 4 VF-1S 5 Koening Monster 6 Destroid Monster 7 VF-19kai 8 SDF-1 9 YF-21 10 VF-25S Art quality of the Macross Plus adaptation seems to have dropped. And they've recycled Hayato's gag manga from either 001 or 002. 7th Code has a decent length this time, and the art's as good as always. Plus, Basara. Miyatake's column is on the wildlife of Eden, wind farm, New Edwards Base, and SDF-1 in Macross city from M+. Itano Circus column on... the Itano circus (specifically animating missiles)
  4. FTW! What other spaceship can be fixed with masking tape and still be flyable?
  5. Up until now, the bookstore closest to work (where I pick up the majority of these newest Macross publications) has ordered more than the demand for it. With Macross Ace, 2 or 3 issues have hung around on the bookshelf for about a month or longer after release. With Macross the First, I believe there is still 1 (or more) on the shelves. This past weekend, I checked out the nearest Animate, and they still had Macross the First 1, Macross Trash 1-4, Macross Frontier 1-5, the Macross Frontier manga shorts compilation and one of the Macross F books. Alas, the section with Macross (Frontier) goods seems to have disappeared (or they moved it and I missed it). Now, to quantify the two: the bookstore is quite large, so they can afford to have stock sitting on the shelves for a long time. Animate is relatively small, so they generally don't have stock sitting for a long time. You'll have to keep that in mind when you shop (the only example of finding an "old" new book is when I found the VF-X2 Official Clue Guide 4 or 5 years after release in Junkudo Books.)
  6. Apparently she sells more or something. Great to see Misa with her shirt open, too.
  7. Great Mechanics.DX 14 is out. Continues with the Macross Pinpoint Mechanics column. This time, it's the unmanned fighters QF-2001, 2200D, 3000; X-9; AIF-7S, 9V. There's a couple subcolumns that look interesting, unmanned craft and manned VF-25/27, as well as a comparision with the RW RQ-4 and MQ-9.
  8. If you want to get technical, refer to Wikipedia's section about using pictures in articles posted on their website. Also, when it comes to copyright, it depends on the country. For example, the USA has a "fair use" clause. As in, it's ok to use one or two images or a short clip of a TV show/movie, as long as it's in an appropriate usage. (Ergo, posting screen caps in a review is fair use, using copyright images as an avatar is not). Copyright is also not limited to only financial restrictions. Japan, for example, has two: financial copyright, and creator copyright. So, it's possible in some situations that the financial copyright has been sold (or is no longer under protection), but the creator's copyright is still in effect. Ergo, using an image as an avatar may be a breech of copyright if it's in a context that distorts or destroys the copyright material (ie Totoro as a serial rapist). Anyhow, my main point: read the wikipedia section. It's insightful and reminds me of one of my father's expresions: just because everyone else is jumping off the bridge, doesn't mean that you have, too.
  9. The only thing that can be recommended is putting a watermark over the image itself, in such a way that removing the watermark is extremely labour intensive (I want to say that watermarks cannot be erased, but alas, if someone is truly motivated...)
  10. Yup, and from the creator himself, no less.
  11. Agreed. At the most, one episode per night.
  12. After all these years, the design is "meh" (same for the carrier, though that might just be the angle. On screen, at the time, it was uber cool) Now THIS brings back memories. In retrospect, I'm not quite sure I like the design (I think the one that appeared in "Starship Troopers" is better), but man, they sure used that thing alot in S:AAB.
  13. Ah... that was a good movie, if you ignore that it's a sequel to a much, much greater movie (as a sequel, it sucks). Nevertheless, I really liked the spacewalks in that movie, and especially the use of a ballute to slow it's speed. The music is also great - listen to Gundam 0083, and you'll hear it, too!
  14. The ones that pop to mind are: news: full-scale Gundam statue (built, crowds, rebuilt permanently) neighbours complaining about garish colouring of house in upscale residential area, as the manga artist painted the exterior of his house to match those of his key character. variety shows (wide shows): starting/midpoint/ending a journey at an artist themed railway station/museum/building (none of them pop to mind, but I want to say of the Osamu Tezuka generation) [it should also be noted that the situation is rare, and when it does happen, the majority are dedicated to famous painters, poets, etc. or historical figures.] Then, of course, there is news about anime/manga and it's fans in general: NEETs Freeters mass murderers who are anime fans/target anime fans/have names similar to anime creators. Aside from the last one (which is truly a rarity), those news articles were more prevalent pre-Lehman shock. After the Lehman shock, it's been news about it's effects, and that's (currently) morphed into the high Yen/USD exchange rate. Alas, social issues, such as income disparity, the gap between the rich and poor, etc., have been pushed to the side; despite the Lehamn shock having exacerbated the situation. (Ie more people "living" in 24 hour internet cafes).
  15. Macross getting reported in mass-media ANYWHERE is rare. Even Japan!
  16. Only if you're looking for information on Robotech. The blog is called "Robotech Chronicles" BTW, and there is English in it: "Veritech", etc..
  17. re: Great Mechanics.DX 9 Finished the VF-27 Lucifer section.
  18. Technically, they weren't created or named in tandem. The Prometheus was first seen in SG1 season 6, and the Daedalus in SGA season 2 (equivalent of SG1 season 8, if my math's right).
  19. Echoed. Macross draws inspiration from Greek myth! zomg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daedalus Now, the real question is: did the producers deliberately choose the names as they are anime fans - and Macross is one of the more recognizeable ones?
  20. Sounds like "the" event.
  21. Both. Ponder this: how many different ways is there to draw a bubble canopy cockpit as simply as possible?
  22. Island time? See post #6.
  23. Of the materials that I've translated, that's the only one that has relevant information. Linky: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2077.0 Ammendum: funny... I distinctly remember some further background information about what happened to Sheryl's parents. I'm pretty sure it was from Pash. Maybe another source... maybe something I haven't gotten around to typing up yet?
  24. MC's glossary has it's own entry for it: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2349.msg35343#msg35343 Alright, I'm going to slam the brakes on this before it gets too far into the land of confusing: There are two versions of the events. MF TV series, and MF movie series. I'm referring to the TV series version. You're referring to the movie version. Even then, both sets of information come from side stories (Pash Animation File #02 and Kiss the Galaxy). So... to stave off further confusion, let's all note which version we're referring to from now on.
  25. First of all, in the post you're quoting, he's correct amd was consistent. Second of all, in this thread, Unified Government is used, as "U.N. Government" is a) confusing (too similar to the RW UN, which should actually be written as U.N.), b) not how it appears in the animation. Third of all, no one is forcing you or anyone else to use the more correct terminology; outside of this thread and in reference to my translations, that is. That said, not using the more correct terminology is the same as relying on bad translations, and in the end, breeds confusion and passes along wrong information. Lastly: the animation may have "UN <insert noun>", but that doesn't mean it's correct. As we all know, animation is notorious for bad English. Case in point: Spacy. You know, animation errors, et al. Anyhow, corrected list: United Nations (1945 - 2001) - The real-world international organization. Unified Government (2001 - 11 Feb 2010) - The planetary government established as a result of the 1999 crash of an alien ship on South Ataria island. new Unified Government / Unified Government* (April 2010 - ~2051) - The planetary central government after Space War 1. New Unified Government (~205X - Current) - The decentralized government body in Macross Frontier.** * the addition of the adjective, new, is inconsistant at best. In fact, the majority of the publications dealing with the M7 and onwards part of the Macross timeline don't have the adjective when refering to it. ** I'm still in the midst of assembling information on what exactly it is. Therefore, it's best to err on the side of caution, and not describe it with limiting detail that may or may not be correct. Lastly: please move the discussion to a new thread, thank you.
