  1. Sheryl's history gives us a clue, possibly even a specific date (but you'll have to determine that/look it up on your own): her parents were killed during a protest against the cyberdization of society. Some time between then and the development of the VF-27 (which happens before the events of the MF series), those mandates are implementated, the technology is developed, and fully cybernetic people are built. Why is the development of the VF-27 a key point? Cyborg's are Macross Galaxy's answer to the question of how to supplement ISC in a manned fighter. Frontier's solution is EX-Gear, and my latest translations hint that the Unified Government may have a more advanced ISC and/or a different supplemental technology for other YF-24 Evolution derivatives.
  2. Postcard sets #4 (green envelope) and #5 (pink envelope) attached.
  3. Can you clarify what your opinion is based on? Is it your own personal understanding of Japanese (ie your own translations)? Or third party translations of dubious veracity? (Ie fan subs that wrongly refer to Super Long Range Emigration Fleets as "colonization fleets")
  4. Anyhow... Finished the Dr. Chiba and Magazine staff comments on the VF-1 (re: Great Mechanics.DX 9)
  5. Ahh... Gunbuster. That series is just LOADED with good ideas and interesting designs.
  6. Running away. Funny, that's the one smiley that doesn't exist. No good copy of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" after they meet the monster in the cave. <sigh> Ah, yes. Bad crowd control. Been through that. Seoul, the big intersection over Kwanghwamoon station, 1999.12.31, about an hour before midnight. The street was still open to traffic, forcing the (tens of?) thousands of people to jostle along the sidewalks. Nasty. It was 100% go-with-the-flow (even if you didn't want to), and even then, you were squished from 6 sides! I was really happy when they closed the streets to traffic and the people could spread out on the streets.
  7. You're forgetting who actually decides these things: the producers and financers. The designers that you mention may actually be coming up with realistic, thoughtful designs, but the producers (often not including the director) are the people who may be the ones rejecting them, opting for designs that they think the viewer wants to see; which is generally what they want to see.
  8. Please be more consistant with your romanizations. Ie: Sinsei (しんせい) = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunrei-shiki_R%C5%8Dmaji Shinakasu (しんなかしゅう) = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepburn_romanization Also, English fans use Hepburn, as Kunrei-shiki doesn't follow English pronunciation rules.
  9. Funny how you guys are still trying to debate something that was already decided a month ago.
  10. Please read http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33597&view=findpost&p=864968 more carefully before replying. Or to put it uber clear: 国連 does not equal 統合政府. Anyhow, completed the Dr. Chiba/Magazine staff comments for the VF-0 section (re: Great Mechanics.DX 9)
  11. Great Mechanics.DX 9 translation continues! Completed the VF-25 section. Some interesting stuff, especially the hard numbers (not many, but enough to hope that the rest of the article has more). Dr. Chiba's section is the most interesting, IMHO, as it implies volumes about the state of the New Unified Government and it's satellites (emigrant fleets/planets). Other random stuff: got the 5th postcard set from Macross Chronicle. One of these days I'll have to get around to posting pictures of them, and the 4th postcard set.
  12. My point exactly!
  13. Good point. And I'll raise with a: it was a different era, before such things as the Akihabara Massacre.
  14. Erm... I discourage doing anything that may be construed as "obsessive" fan activities. You know, not crossing the line between the boastable "I've seen the Satelight offices" to the deplorable "I've been slapped with a restraining order for stalking".
  15. I've been continuing the translation of Great Mechanics.DX, and one of the sections penned by Dr. Chiba has a startling revelation (which makes sense when one thinks about it). But it's raised a question in me: who is the writer who goes by the name Dr. Chiba? Is he an extremely knowledgeable fan, or is it Mr. Kawamori himself using a nom de plume or pseudonym?
  16. LOL. Seconded! Though, I'd like to add, "if you are willing to personally pay Big West a huge amount of money, they'll gladly add the subtitles."
  17. Even having Japanese packaging and a legit appearance, doesn't make it legit. For example there's (not posting company name), who make rather professional CD releases. The only changes are an addition of their logo to the CD artwork, and that the booklet is scanned and printed or high-resolution copier copied. In short, the only way you'd know that it wasn't legit, is the lack of holographic stickers, the general subdued colour tones, and the lack of embossing and shiny gold/silver/whatver colours in the booklet. I've also picked up legitimate Korean rereleases of Japanese CDs. In addition to having inserts in Korean translating the tracks, and songs (as everything else is 100% the same as the original releases), there is an additional "Not for sale in Japan", in English, Korean and Japanese on the back of the CD - usually near the bar code.
  18. Why didn't you say so in the first place? Erukesto de esekes!
  19. But they are still awesome! Sure, they lack the funky details and shading of some of the latest games, but a plethora of transforming VFs with the right basic shapes? Pure win. I think you're refering to mission 10b: you turn against Gilliam and end up battling Maria Fokina and Gilliam. I never could beat that level (could beat Maria, but never could beat Gilliam) The *true* ending (I say this because not only are there more levels, one of them even has an animated interlude!) would be the 10a, 11a and 12. I've had no trouble beating the game via this route.
  20. 2nded Which is exactly why I'm doing my best to stay out of the debate.
  21. 'Cause Turkish is part of the same language family as Japanese (Altaic), and Zentraadi is a derivative of Japanese? (Or at least borrows the same phonology).
  22. Agreed. It's not bad per se. It just doesn't quite fit with the rest of the game. By this, I mean that the player is pretty much free to choose their path in all the other levels, except for the underwater part of the underwater level. Otherwise, it's a great insertion, great enemy base, and even a Meltraendi gun ship that you can make straffing attacks on! The only thing I don't like about the game now, is that it doesn't look very good on the latest high-viz, widescreen TVs. I'm hoping that when I get around to getting a PS3, it'll upscale the graphics somewhat to make it look a bit better (as I read it was capable of doing, a while ago).
  23. I don't have the game nor play it, but I've been following threads about this for years. Therefore, take my input with a grain of salt: On the one hand, waiting until things are past beta 1 would be preferable, as a release too early will poison the reception of the finished (or a "more" finished) version. On the other hand, this project has been going on for years and years and years, with lots of people who disappear from the project when they lose their motivation/time for it, and a lot of empty promises that the mod is "coming soon". Therefore, I strongly feel that releasing now is better, as a) everyone will have the fruits of the labours of those involved in the project over the years, now and not "later" (therefore giving you guys credit that a promise has been kept), and b) there's the strong possibility of increased interest in helping see the project to completion, from the greater internet (or HW2) community.
