WORST Sci-Fi TV series of all time.....
sketchley replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
2nded. Stargate (especially the 1st 2 spinoff TV series and their subsequent 2 movies) are the bomb. Worst ever? Armaggedon. Why? Not because of the bad writing (which it has more than enough of), not because of the director (don't get me started), not because (insert your personal reason here), but because DESPITE having access to literal rocket scientists (they filmed at Nasa, they talked with Nasa personnel), the movie has next to no scientific accuracy. The movie also has the dubious distinction of being the only movie I've seen in a theatre and walked out of. Within the first 30 minutes, no less!- 279 replies

Try the Macross Compendium's page on it.

Correction, Background copyright Macross Chronicle Issue 08, page 25, illustrated by Tomotake Kinoshita. And shouldn't that be "background modified in photoshop", not "by photoshop"?

JR? Who needs JR. Their expensive and dangerous: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amagasaki_rail_crash You also only *really* need to take JR if you're heading out to an area that isn't served by a private railroad; which, by the way, are oft cheaper, and faster. As I dunno about the Kanto area, I can only direct you to the Surutto Kansai 3-day pass. 3 days, unlimited travel on all private trains and buses (sans JR, of course), in the Kansai area, for only ¥5,000. Here's a list of departures and drop-offs for the Shinya bus: http://www.bus24.jp/kansai/osaka/osaka-tokyo/ FYI: round trip less than double the one-way trip.
-
Shinkansen? On a budget? You nuts? Shinya Bus, all the way!
-
... and finished (see preceeding post for linky). I'm guessing that there are probably other mistakes. Nevertheless, it's great that a) there's a list of corrections, and b) a list of "missing" sheets.
-
Budget. And make sure you stick to the allowance that you give yourself. Also, watch your expenditures, as, and quoting from someone who gave advice before I came here, "Japan is a place where you can spend a life's savings in less than a week". On the other hand, before I came here to live, I did a 1 week trip, Osaka-Tokyo-Osaka, for less than ¥30,000 (not including airfare). Of course, that was relying on the generosity of friends for places to crash.

Try and see the Magnetic Rose section of Memories (the whole movie, is great).

LOL You guys sound like you're living hand-to-mouth or something. Get some side jobs - you know, teaching English in a cafe before (or after) work.

Started: Macross Chronicle #50 back cover inside: errata chart http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2609.msg40114#msg40114 About 1/3 finished.

They were "next on the list". My opinion is that the Zentraadi attacked the biggest potential threat - the Earth, first, and were planning to attack orbitals (Lagrange Points, Colony Clusters) and the moon, next. Here's a list of all the stuff I could find in and around Earth orbit (note: pre-Macross Chronicle information). Canon info in green: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Locations/Earth.htm#EarthOrbit

Without proper context (ie: before and after the clip), it could very well be from eps II or III. Heck, the brief shot of Hayden Christensen has a background composed of elements from Eps III. Which begs the question: was that a shot made for Eps III? A shot made between Eps I and II to prove to Mr. Lucas that a CG Yoda is better? Et al. Also, if that shot is indeed accuarate, it is of Yoda, alone. What a about the shots of Yoda interacting, and in front of and behind actors and set elements? It'll cost a pretty penny to have to digitally matt out the puppet and overlay the CG Yoda. And that's not even taking into consideration the frame by frame animation (as I doubt they'll do motion capture, and even if they do, they still have to do frame by frame tweaking).
-
I don't think we'll be seeing very many "improvements" to the CGI. Mainly because of the costs involved (at a certain point it'll cost less to just remake the whole movie, and no one's going to do that). Replacing Yoda in Eps. 1? Fat chance of that happening. It'd be easier to refilm those scenes. I think everyone needs to step back and remember that these movies are part of a business, and that the business wants to minimize costs. Because of that, I doubt we'll see very many improvements other than the transfer to the new format. If the company's going to spend more money, then we'll be seeing a new special-special edition released in theatres, like last time they spent a bunch of money to fix things. Maybe even in that crappy faux three-dee format to boot.

Issue #30 is out. #31 (movie content + binder present) releasing on or after 08.24. Mari Illustrious Makinami is on the cover.

I agree. Also, it's not like they filmed an alternative ending, let alone story-boarded one, let alone wrote one. The so-called "alternative ending" was only something mentioned in a treatment of the script. Something that probably came up during initial brainstorming and was later revised for a better idea (selling more toys and making the tone lighter is a pessimisstic view. The optimistic view is that Mr. Lucas understood what it means to make a modern myth. Meaning that the heroes don't die, and live on to stimulate our imaginations. I never noticed those things. Nevertheless, if one looks really, really carefully, one can always spot the tricks used to make movies. All movies. How long is that stick on screen for? What's it's size compared to the AT-AT? Is it worth it to digitally erase it, or will the erasure be more obvious than the scene, as-is? Personally, I would have preferred to see them remove the red box around the emperor's eyes in Eps. VI, but I understand that it is an artifact from optical printing, and nigh-impossible to remove (unless if they have the film master, which it appears they didn't...)

Pass. Even IF I had a BluRay player, I still wouldn't shell out a bunch more money for a set that I have on DVD and (partially) on VHS (yes, the "original, theatrical version", last release prior to the enhanced versions). I was disappointed that the "making of" documentaries in the DVD set didn't have one of the documentaries that they showed just over a decade ago on the revisions to Eps. IV (the one on how they made the lizard creature on Tatooine walk, if you're curious). The new scene is interested - very Revenge of the Sith-y (new word?). But I feel it doesn't really fit into the rest of Eps. VI. If anything, it appears more like a scene from Eps. V. Ah well... These days, I'm getting my Star Wars fix on cable for free (if cable counts as free. I heard NHK was airing it, but have yet to find it). The CG Clone Wars is just the right amount of SW juice, and on digital widescreen? Much better than I expect BluRay remasters to look anyways.

The distance that Gamlin travelled doesn't matter so much as the distance that anyone can travel by space fold in the time frame between the end of M7 and the start of M7D.
-
Which doesn't make sense. Why? How far and how long it takes to make a space fold. In M7D, we see Gamlin make a space fold from the M7 fleet with a fighter-sized fold booster "not rated for folds greater than 20 light years". Therefore, Zola has to be within 20 light years of the M7 fleet. Which brings up the next question: where is the M7 fleet? The information I had at the time of making the map was that the M7 fleet was "near the center of the Milkyway Galaxy". MF mentions the same, and that even if the MF fleet folded directly to Earth (which is impossible given fold faults), it take more than 5 years (or was it 10?). Given that Earth is also not near the tip of one of the spiral arms furthest from the core at the edge of the galaxy, it means that it'd take 10 to 20 years for the M7 fleet to fold to the tip, proper. The events of M7D occur within a year of the end of M7. Therefore, it's impossible for Zola to be at the edge of the Milkyway Galaxy farthest from the core, let alone on any point of the spiral arms outside of the core, proper. Now, one has to take into consideration the translation itself. Is it accurate? Were the translators working off of the original script or what someone thought they heard over the speaker? Do they use words like "colonization fleet" or "super long range emigration/immigration fleet" in the subtitles? Did the translation actually state that Zola's at the edge of the galaxy, meaning the parts farthest from the core on one of the arms; the edge at a point near the core; simply the edge of space that the Unified Government has explored and emigrated to; or none of the above? So, given the available information an in-series technological limitations, I placed Zola at the edge of one of the arms at or in the core. Oh, by the way, did you notice the disclaimer I posted earlier in this thread? http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=26406&view=findpost&p=865306 Here's the context: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Locations/Locations.htm

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Finished pages 082 and 083: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2553.msg39187#msg39187 VEF-19D, VEF-19E, VC-19V & VRF-19D. I was honestly surprised by the number of typos and errors in these two pages. Were they rushed out? One of them is a bit difficult to spot if you're not paying attention, but the other handful... any good editor would've spotted them! Anyhow, the two warning-calibur craft are "intersting". The VIP-Calibur is most interesting (hey, it's actually a logical addition), and the Recon-Calibur reminds me of the real-world UAV reconnaissance craft. In the end, the last two get me thinking that Shinsei Industry was trying to maximize sales with all these variants, as they lost the contract for the main fighter to the VF-171. That's just me, of course, but I think it's an interesting turn of events for a company that just lost a big aerospace contract. The whole situation paints the whole Shinsei Industry, General Galaxy joint production on the YF-24 in a new light, especially what with Shinsei Industry completing the YF-24 Evolution. (Got all the angles covered if the VF-25 (etc.) doesn't pan out, as every VF manufacturer is licensing their technology.) -
Added a "Translations Glossary" under the Macross Translations Header. There are a couple of other terms (currently) on it in addition to the one(s) posted earlier in this thread. There's at least one other term that I have to dig out my notes to get accurate (the correct name of the 117th fleet from MF). Enjoy.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
sketchley replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
Finished pages 080 and 081: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2553.msg39187#msg39187 VF-19F/S/P and VFA-19A Assault Calibur. The VF-19F and S descriptions are underwhelming. On the other hand, the VF-19P is full of interesting stuff. The VFA-19A is eye-brow raising. On the one hand, I can see how plausible all of it's features are, and how they relate to things seen in-universe (ie: Isamu crashing into the "head" of the SDF-1), however, it still comes across as a bit rediculous, IMHO. -
I hope so. Pretty much the only reasons that I continue to watch the show are: - the stargate (the lack of it appearing for numerous episodes is disheartening) - the music - further exploration of the stargate universe So far, of those three, only the music is a regular given.
-
Was that section green? No. Ergo: it's not canon. If you want to discuss it further, you're welcome to open a new topic in the Fan Works section.
-
Did you spot him in the preview? (old guy in rowboat being swirled around) His expression is priceless, and right up there with Christopher Lloyd's line. The preview has given me the impression that this movie is pure camp. (Wait... is it set in a camp, too? )
-
If the things on it are green, then they are canon in the sense of being mentioned officially in-universe. That said, the locations are speculation. The locations are also the "last known location" as well. The map is also useless without context. Here's the context: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/Sketchley/Locations/Locations.htm#slref
