Macross getting reported in mass-media ANYWHERE is rare. Even Japan!
-
Only if you're looking for information on Robotech. The blog is called "Robotech Chronicles" BTW, and there is English in it: "Veritech", etc..

Technically, they weren't created or named in tandem. The Prometheus was first seen in SG1 season 6, and the Daedalus in SGA season 2 (equivalent of SG1 season 8, if my math's right).
-
Echoed. Macross draws inspiration from Greek myth! zomg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daedalus Now, the real question is: did the producers deliberately choose the names as they are anime fans - and Macross is one of the more recognizeable ones?
-
Sounds like "the" event.
-
Both. Ponder this: how many different ways is there to draw a bubble canopy cockpit as simply as possible?
-
Island time? See post #6.

Of the materials that I've translated, that's the only one that has relevant information. Linky: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2077.0 Ammendum: funny... I distinctly remember some further background information about what happened to Sheryl's parents. I'm pretty sure it was from Pash. Maybe another source... maybe something I haven't gotten around to typing up yet?

MC's glossary has it's own entry for it: http://www.macrossroleplay.org/forums/index.php?topic=2349.msg35343#msg35343 Alright, I'm going to slam the brakes on this before it gets too far into the land of confusing: There are two versions of the events. MF TV series, and MF movie series. I'm referring to the TV series version. You're referring to the movie version. Even then, both sets of information come from side stories (Pash Animation File #02 and Kiss the Galaxy). So... to stave off further confusion, let's all note which version we're referring to from now on.

First of all, in the post you're quoting, he's correct amd was consistent. Second of all, in this thread, Unified Government is used, as "U.N. Government" is a) confusing (too similar to the RW UN, which should actually be written as U.N.), b) not how it appears in the animation. Third of all, no one is forcing you or anyone else to use the more correct terminology; outside of this thread and in reference to my translations, that is. That said, not using the more correct terminology is the same as relying on bad translations, and in the end, breeds confusion and passes along wrong information. Lastly: the animation may have "UN <insert noun>", but that doesn't mean it's correct. As we all know, animation is notorious for bad English. Case in point: Spacy. You know, animation errors, et al. Anyhow, corrected list: United Nations (1945 - 2001) - The real-world international organization. Unified Government (2001 - 11 Feb 2010) - The planetary government established as a result of the 1999 crash of an alien ship on South Ataria island. new Unified Government / Unified Government* (April 2010 - ~2051) - The planetary central government after Space War 1. New Unified Government (~205X - Current) - The decentralized government body in Macross Frontier.** * the addition of the adjective, new, is inconsistant at best. In fact, the majority of the publications dealing with the M7 and onwards part of the Macross timeline don't have the adjective when refering to it. ** I'm still in the midst of assembling information on what exactly it is. Therefore, it's best to err on the side of caution, and not describe it with limiting detail that may or may not be correct. Lastly: please move the discussion to a new thread, thank you.

Sheryl's history gives us a clue, possibly even a specific date (but you'll have to determine that/look it up on your own): her parents were killed during a protest against the cyberdization of society. Some time between then and the development of the VF-27 (which happens before the events of the MF series), those mandates are implementated, the technology is developed, and fully cybernetic people are built. Why is the development of the VF-27 a key point? Cyborg's are Macross Galaxy's answer to the question of how to supplement ISC in a manned fighter. Frontier's solution is EX-Gear, and my latest translations hint that the Unified Government may have a more advanced ISC and/or a different supplemental technology for other YF-24 Evolution derivatives.

Can you clarify what your opinion is based on? Is it your own personal understanding of Japanese (ie your own translations)? Or third party translations of dubious veracity? (Ie fan subs that wrongly refer to Super Long Range Emigration Fleets as "colonization fleets")

Ahh... Gunbuster. That series is just LOADED with good ideas and interesting designs.

Running away. Funny, that's the one smiley that doesn't exist. No good copy of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" after they meet the monster in the cave. <sigh> Ah, yes. Bad crowd control. Been through that. Seoul, the big intersection over Kwanghwamoon station, 1999.12.31, about an hour before midnight. The street was still open to traffic, forcing the (tens of?) thousands of people to jostle along the sidewalks. Nasty. It was 100% go-with-the-flow (even if you didn't want to), and even then, you were squished from 6 sides! I was really happy when they closed the streets to traffic and the people could spread out on the streets.

You're forgetting who actually decides these things: the producers and financers. The designers that you mention may actually be coming up with realistic, thoughtful designs, but the producers (often not including the director) are the people who may be the ones rejecting them, opting for designs that they think the viewer wants to see; which is generally what they want to see.

Please be more consistant with your romanizations. Ie: Sinsei (しんせい) = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunrei-shiki_R%C5%8Dmaji Shinakasu (しんなかしゅう) = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepburn_romanization Also, English fans use Hepburn, as Kunrei-shiki doesn't follow English pronunciation rules.

Funny how you guys are still trying to debate something that was already decided a month ago.

Please read http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33597&view=findpost&p=864968 more carefully before replying. Or to put it uber clear: 国連 does not equal 統合政府. Anyhow, completed the Dr. Chiba/Magazine staff comments for the VF-0 section (re: Great Mechanics.DX 9)

Great Mechanics.DX 9 translation continues! Completed the VF-25 section. Some interesting stuff, especially the hard numbers (not many, but enough to hope that the rest of the article has more). Dr. Chiba's section is the most interesting, IMHO, as it implies volumes about the state of the New Unified Government and it's satellites (emigrant fleets/planets). Other random stuff: got the 5th postcard set from Macross Chronicle. One of these days I'll have to get around to posting pictures of them, and the 4th postcard set.

My point exactly!

Good point. And I'll raise with a: it was a different era, before such things as the Akihabara Massacre.
