  1. EDITED: see last post in this tangent
  2. Completed pretty much all that I want to complete in the Eps 3 "Spiral Blue" translation. I've actually become quite interested in what the character and glossary sections in the preceding issues say. And for the record:
  3. Reorganized main page. The Macross Translations are now top left, and translation tools immediately to the right. Also majorly reorganized the Other translations - as there's going to be a lot more Dengeki Hobby/Macross the Ride material a coming. I've basically completed the Episode 3 article (there's the last bit on the last two pages, but as I have a strong impression that that's about the model creation process, I'm kinda rapidly loosing interest in completing it. Inversely, interest in translating the preceding two articles is increasing. So it's all good.

  7. I look at you North Americans mobile phones, and just shake my head at the limited options, both hardware and connection wise, and the total lack of customer service. Shame. Anyhow, the corruption of writing is probably here to stay. Well, at least until the kids have to sit down for university exams. That's a nice and hard lesson in real life (young'uns here are losing... hmmm, never really learning how to write the more complex kanji), and the temptation to use mobile phones is always there, people just have to learn when it's OK to use them, and when it's not OK. I give North Americans another few years before they figure that one out and there is a noticeable backlash against it.
  8. That, and it's a lot cheaper and faster to make a fighter mode only kit.
  9. There's a possibility of that. The general rule of thumb with magazines is that their content is finished 3 months before publication. In addition, as a freelancer, Mr. Tenjin may be producing artwork even further in advance (as, if I understand it correctly, he's concurrently working on the 2nd Macross F movie). I wouldn't expect it, as the artwork printed so far doesn't look like finished illustrations (ie no background, light on the highlights, etc.), but I wouldn't completely give up hope, either.
  10. Where are you getting that meaning from? It's been 6 years... combined with a Macross boom. With Macross Chronicle alone, he's produced 50+ pieces, and I know of at least one canon error on the one in #50.
  11. Only if one considers the suction from the main intakes as a kind of super hoover... Anyhow, finished a bit more of the translation. I'm a bit surprised about the main purpose of all the little flaps at the wing tips. But, as a racing plane, it kinda makes sense.
  12. Scanlation: "It's been 6 years since the release of VALKYRIES. This time, Macross F has passed, and (this is the) completed continuation (of the first book). About 60 points in the illustrations were touched up. About 59 points of explanation of the mechanical art (appears to be art explanations, not in-universe technical stuff). Revisited the box art masters. Full colour, 112 pages." (stuff in brackets added as it's not directly stated)
  13. Finished the parts of the article indicated in the quote (added to the I-net, too). The parts on the top of the engine nacelles are a "suction system". So, the blisters on the dorsal surface are definitely not part of the thrust reverse system.
  14. Agreed. Risk management and economies of scale in the mix. Plus a dash of passing along the licensing fee(s) to the end consumer.
  15. A VF-1 or VT-1 that's been converted to construction use? TBH, it's a throwaway design tossed into M7 Dynamite. I don't think lineart even exists for it.
  16. Posting with a context is always good. Now, back to the topic: did a bit more translating of the article last night (not posted on the net, yet), and there's at least one instance of the Sv-51 being referred to as a "masterpiece" variable fighter. Food for thought.
  17. <sigh> How apparent the lack of knowledge on Macross stats is. Why kg? 'cause that's what the canon information is given in: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/VF-1#Powerplant It's only from Macross Zero onward that stats were given in kN. If one is going to complain about how accurate or inaccurate that is, one has to go have a talk with the creator himself, Mr. Kawamori. Don't forget that gravity is also reduced the closer one is to the equator, even at sea level, due to centripetal force and the equatorial bulge. Then there are also gravitational anomalies, but as they're too random and the effects too varied, it's a headache to start incorporating their effects.
  18. Technically speaking, the original poster also said "appeared in an anime". The MII timeline VF-4 Siren appeared in the game, Macross 2036, no?
  19. You're forgetting that the VF-X and VF-X-1 were already ready, and because the thermonuclear reaction turbine engines weren't ready, they developed the VF-0 based around over-tuned conventional turbofam jet engines as a platform to test the other new OTec technologies being developed at the time. In other words: once the thermonuclear reaction engines were ready, they wouldn't need the VF-0 any longer, as they already have a working VF-1 design to put the engines into. It's more than likely that the VF-0 has the airframe strength to install thermonuclear engines. But that's not the point I'm making. The point is that the SV-52 has had the VF-17's engines installed. The 23,000 kg of the FF-2001 is significantly less than the 55,000 kg of the FF-2100X or 59,500 kg of the FF-2100X-Kai. Keeping in mind that the SV-51 wasn't designed to match any VFs, but was created to fight the Zentraadi, then we're agreed - as that's what the text on the SV-51/52 pretty much states without directly saying it. Though, given the size of the SV-51, I don't think they were waiting for engines as compact as the ones that the VF-1 needs...
  20. I'm not disagreeing completely that that isn't possible. Just that it isn't possible in all circumstances. I believe the original poster mentioned technological limitations. I was also thinking time, material and personnel capability limitations. In the case of the SV-52, the most likely limitation is a lack of a complete, original airframe. So, it's not any of the aforementioned limitations, but a new one: lack of a complete specimen to copy. I didn't feel that it was worth mentioning as we're talking about the Studio Nue timeline here...
  21. Why should it frustrate you, as "has yet to be indicated" doesn't mean either a direct yes or no. I'd wait a few more months to see if a VF-0 makes an appearance in "Macross the Ride" before finalizing any opinions (that said, the SV-51 would still have a longer length of service ) Except for the 12 SV-51α that "Macross the Ride" states were converted into SV-52. That's debatable. I agree if the result is something similar, but an exact copy... Possibly, but of all the translations I've done, only the SV-51/52 and VF-14 are indicated as having surplus or excess interior space. I guess another way to look at it is that all airframes have excess interior space, but only the aforementioned two have a noteworthy amount, or an amount that plays a significant role in the deployment, operation and fate of the airframe. As engines are noted, it should be kept in mind that any old plane cannot take any old engine. A lot of the time, the airframe has to be strengthened to handle the increased output, or else the engines have to be limited in some way. Therefore, it's all the more interesting that airframe strengthening hasn't been mentioned in the SV-52 that was converted to the VF-17's engines. Thereby implying that the airframe has significant durability. One that is implied to be much greater than the stock VF-0! [Cautionary note: in different parts of the article it's been indicated that the SV-52 has undergone modification to become the racer in the Vanquish Races. So, I highly doubt that the airframe hasn't been strengthened in some way.] The VF-4, VF-14, and VF-27 don't.
  22. There's a bit more that you missed: The SV-51 can be converted to a thermonuclear reaction engine type, the VF-0 has yet to be indicated as having the same ability. The SV-51 has surplus interior space inside the fuselage, making upgrades and the addition of new technology that much easier. The VF-0 hasn't been indicated as having the same surplus interior space (FAST packs hint that any upgrades need to be attached on the outside - much more difficult). Oh, and the SV-51, converted to the thermonuclear reaction engine equipped SV-52, is still flying 50 years after. The VF-0 has yet to be indicated as having the same lifespan.
  23. Fixed Gotcha. It's in the issue that I didn't buy.
  24. Ahh, but it is a sword. I'm pretty sure there's a magical version of it in a myth or legend somewhere. Maybe one of the Atlantic Ocean or Mediterranean Sea pirate legends. I know of some mythical engine mounts on a Cutlass S, but that's no longer talking about a sword.
  25. Actually, I don't. Not because it's real world accurate, but because I don't completely trust the text rendered in roman letters in Japanese books. Especially by those writers that use Kunrei-shiki romaji or aren't romanizing Japanese in English, but some made up language. Anyhow, I'm just joshing you. I've been planning all along to revise it to Dornier when I get around to proofreading. However, I've felt that getting the rest of it done first takes priority, and then I was waylaid by a cold. >.< So, going back to the gun port/funnel/doohicky thingy: two pages later there's a caption for a picture of the dorsal blisters that looks like it talks about the dorsal blisters (though it could be talking about the changed head/faceplate). So, hopefully there's a few more jems of information in the article. Fingers crossed. Probably little to no ties. Unless if we start playing the 7 degrees of separation (ie SV-52y's girl-pilot's grandfather's squadronmate knew Nora who was with Ivanov who taught Fokker who was Hikaru's sempai who is a friend of Max. And Max knows everyone and has been everywhere (except VF-X2). VF-19A? I don't remember seeing a VF-19A yet. Did you mean VF-19EF Caliburn or VF-19ACTIVE Nothung?
