Macross The First Macross FF Macross FB7 (releasing 20 October 9) Macross 30th Documentary Book Vol. 6 Non-Macross Content: new Shirow Masamune X Rikudou Koushi manga: Koukaku no Pandora [Rouge Pandora]: Ghost Urn Haven't read it at the time of writing, but the first few pages include young girl-cyborg (robots?) lowering undergarments and doing implied suggestive touching with another who has a magic finger effects straight from Ghost in the Shell 2. Thereafter the Shirow-esque elements are present (character designs, 4-legged walking tanks), but the artwork steadily progresses into standard claustrophobia inducing fare, albeit with excellent character art. Yamato 2199 This is my 2nd must read after Macross the First. Everything about it is awesome (from panel composition, character art, mechanical art, and even story pacing). This month we get to see the effects of the firing of the main gun for the first time. I can't remember the original (haven't seen the remake), but what the do to Jupiter...!

A month ago, as I started on the Vajra stats, I realized that I needed all the available information on the Vajra. So, I've been translating content ever since. That includes content from "Official Complete Book Theatrical Macross F Wings of Goodbye", "Perfect Triangle Theatrical Macross F Official Guidebook", "Theatrical Macross Frontier The False Princess Roman Album", and all of Macross Chronicle's: Mechanic: ETC 01A: Vajra, and Worldguide: 08A & 08B: Vajra. Alas, I still haven't figured out a long-term means of publishing those on the internet. The one I have been using now is... well, the following links should illustrate how insufficient they are (main cause of all those questions marks is the lack of Unicode support). Anyhow... following have been just posted: Macross Chronicle Glossary: 17: Nousjadeul-Ger - Vajra 21: VF-1 Valkyrie - Buritai 7018 The one main observation from this month long Vajra-athon is that there appears to be a significant difference on how the Vajra are treated in the TV series and movie incarnations: in the TV series, the Vajra ARE a resource, in the movie, the Vajra are COMPETITORS for resources. Though, that's probably more down to the movies clarifying ideas on the Vajra that the TV series created on the fly. Anyhow, enjoy the Glossary translations. I really like the neat touches, such as the "Fold Sale" and the occasional references between the series (E.g. MF's Temjin using a Neo-Guraaji (from M+ GE)).

It was something about creating an awesomely animated missile attack on a Quel-Quallie and then, after all that work was completed, finding out it was only 1 VF that fired the missiles. Et voila: the one appearance of a VF-1 loaded to the gills with missiles.

If that is so, than the question was so badly composed that it looks like he's asking about something completely different.

I don't believe rights are sold/leased in such a manner. Usually it's by region (in the sense of continents) or territory (in the sense of countries). In the case of Macross, the last I heard was that there are two economic rights holders*. One holds it for Japan, and the other for the rest of the world. Refer to the links provided by Azrael for specifics. *as opposed to the moral rights. See here: http://www.cric.or.jp/cric_e/clj/ and here http://www.cric.or.jp/cric_e/clj/ocl.html for details.

Review of Macross - The Musicalture (and Tokyo Dome City)
sketchley replied to Gubaba's topic in Movies and TV Series
... thinking, "the hell... gaijin otaku?!" -
It's so he can do things like:
-
The Omnicorp is filming sign is a nice touch. Like the helmet, but the suit still looks rubber... but that's probably due to lighting.
-
It's so he can still lovingly touch his wife's face after his humanity/lost self returns. If it's true, it totally negates a lot of the pathos in the original...

30th Anniversary Exhibit NEWS - Talk
sketchley replied to dreadpyrat's topic in Movies and TV Series
Well... at least it's coming here. ... and the good news is that they aren't going to cheat a standing GERWALK (ie "repair & power" cables for the roof, or crates and boarding ladders to hide the supports.) The mock-up that they made is probably quite heavy and not properly balanced for midair suspension... Ah well, it'll make for an interesting birthday present for my son. He likes looking at the models I have on the shelf (and "flying" them when he can). Being able to stand on the outstretched palm of one will probably blow his mind, because that Valkyrie is REAL (in his mind.) Ah... simpler times of the 6 year old.- 291 replies

Prometheus - on Blu-Ray and DVD Oct. 9, 2012
sketchley replied to Pizza the Hutt's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Heh... all this talk makes me wonder if there's a story change as expansive as the one in the theatrical and extended editions of "The Abyss". Doubtful, but it would be cool if it turned out to be very different. Alas, nowadays, as cool as the cut scenes are, they're usually cut for very good reasons. Repeating story points that have already been made or slowing down the main narrative are usually the reasons. -
Only 1 per arm on the GBP-1S, my friend. Except for when they've mounted an RMS-1 missile there.
-
Don't forget the dual gun pod hard points on the left arm, too!
-
If only it was as nice as that picture. Those F-14 variants are all side on. Though the implied look of the stealthy F-14 is cool, the semi-transforming one is... well... leaves a lot to be desired. No where near the same level of class as, say, the VF-11 that served as the VF-19's test bed.
-
That's the one thing that makes perfect sense, though. The VF-0 was an experimental fighter, and never produced in very many numbers or variations. As it is, I think it's cool that we get the F-14++ Advanced Tomcat (think stealthy Tomcat), halfway-to-VF F-14X, and a few shots of the VF-0 being tested in space.
-
Here's a more complete (and accurately translated) list of the weapons on a VF-25: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics/VF-25/VF25.php#OFFENSIVE_SYSTEMS Note 1: green is official setting. Steel blue is extended universe. Black is unofficial. Note 2: a, b (c, d) are options for a given location. Ie: 1 ROV-25 or ES-25A on each wing joint/hip. Maybe it was meant to be MDE Bullets? It doesn't appear to have ever gone to print... nor be advertised for (aside from that ad in the back of Vol.1).

No worries. It was a positive mistake and I hope that you've been able to get some new ideas on the process of making art. -

I think you want to be directing that question at Mr.March. Nevertheless, when I do coloured work: After scanning and cleaning up the artwork (there's always something...), I keep the lineart layer on the top and put the blend mode to multiply. Originally, I painted all the individual colours on multiple layers (though the tendency was to have many colours on one - you know, the whole artist in the zone thing) using soft round brushes at varying sizes and varying flows (usually from 5% to 25%). An example: (trying to mimic Tenjin Hidetaka with that one, but the brush strokes got too sloppy and the result was less than I hoped for.) After reading an excellent tutorial by Genzoman(1) I switched to doing all the tones in greyscale under the lineart layer (multiple layers, see tutorial for ideas), and slapped on a couple of layers of solid paint below those. Example: (It's only really a two-tone grey scale, but I think the results came out a lot better than the preceding example. If I have more time, I'd like to experiment with the gradient tool and doing more with highlights and reflected colours, but that's not going to be happening for a while... especially because I've got a monochrome eye.) Finally... FINALLY managed to find a copy of "Macross 7th Chord". (Apparently it was released on August 10. If only the ads in Newtype Ace for it had been so nice as to share that with us...). The ad slip it came wrapped in was all about Fire Bomber (BOMBA!) - the movie (Macross FB7, released October 20), the Blu-Ray Box sets and info: - TV "Macross Super Dimensional Seminar" on-air, Tokyo MX.BS11 - "Macross the Musiculture" starting from October 3, at the TDC Hall. - Macross 7 Fire Bomber Live, 11.23 Tokyo, 11.24 Osaka. Not exactly new info, but it's the thought that counts. Anyhow... re: the last chapter of "Macross 7th Chord":

Get. Does anyone else think it's "cute" how they backwards engineer a picture (in universe, corner burned off) that they created for the magazine? Anyhow, I appreciate that they kept the wing ordinance both realistic (as in real world) AND official setting accurate. Though... I though the VF-0A/B/S only had 3 hard points per wing, not the 4 that this book indicates? Wish the sections on the SV-51 and VF-3000 were larger, but ah well... at least we get a mention of the SV-52.
