  1. Thanks for the update Shin. It's a shame that the Beta is starting to look more and more like vaporware. Maybe if Toynami could have improved their QC, they could have moved more Alphas which would have led us to the Beta. I know if the reviews that I read about the Alphas here had been more like the reviews of the 1/48 yammies, I would have picked up a few.
  2. Didn't Roddenberry basically disavow ST V? I thought I remember someone saying after it came out (and it was panned universally by critics and ST fans) that it was apocryphal and ST fans could just pretend it didn't really happen. Does anyone have the DVDs? I heard that Shatner tries to explain his vision of the story in the commentary, but the studio made him cut a lot of scenes because of the budget. Of course, if no one wants to admit that they ST V on DVD, I'm sure we'll all understand.
  3. I didn't have a problem with the space battle until Picard decided to ram the other ship. I thought it was just pointless. I thought that when a federation ship was crippled and about to be captured SOP is to self-destruct. Picard has done that before and it was done in ST III. Not "ramming speed!". It would have been a lot more dramatic if they'd destroyed the E (as much as I like the design). My main beefs with Nemesis were: 1. It's release date. It was released around the same date as one of the LOTR films, virtually insuring that it would flop in it's opening weekend. What was Paramount thinking? 2. Dune buggies? The Federation needs dune buggies? WTF? 3. B4. Just stupid. B4. Just name him "Robot" for frak's sake if you want to insult your audience.
  4. Yes, Nemesis was that bad and unremarkable. Nemsis took a good basic concept (Romulans vs Federation) and mashed it with Wrath of Khan, and failed miserably. It's a real shame that the TNG crew had to go out on a whimper like that film. At least ST VI was worthy of being a Star Trek film. IMO, Nemesis was like someone's bad fanfic that was green lighted.
  5. I'm not an audio or videophile by any means, but it's pretty obvious to me that they just ripped the original VHS release to DVD without any clean up. They even put the stupid anti-drug promos in the release. Probably the laziest piece of sh!te transfer I've ever seen. Unfortunately, it's the only game in town until someone else gets the license.
  6. On a side note: I thought that the Kawamori valk vs idiot fanboy strips were funny. Anyway, back to the brewing flame war.
  7. I saw it last night and left impressed actually. I guess after reading so much of the fanboy vitrol these last few weeks my expectations were pretty low. No, it wasn't as good as X2, but it closes the trilogy as best it can, considering how massive the cast was. As some have already mentioned, that's part of the problem. There are way too many mutants for an hour and forty four minute running time. If they had the time (or the budget) this SHOULD have been 2 hours plus. They could have established the characters better and maybe the scenes could have been expanded, instead of clunky one-note dialouge that punctuated almost each scene. The scene where Angel shows up at the mansion was pretty hammy ("This was/this is"). Plus, they wasted an opportunity for Beast or Iceman to say "Welcome back Warren". That's it. One line would have established that Warren knew the school was there because he had been a student. Instead it just makes no sense. Then he flies to Alcatraz just in time to save his dad??? And doesn't fly back to help the other X-Men??? Huh????? The most glaring error, to me, was Cyke's death. No one even mentioned him for a solid 10-15 minutes. Even my wife turned to me and asked me what happened. That's just either crap writing or crap editing. Even Prof X didn't ask Wolverine or Storm if they had found Scott. Wasn't Scott one of the original X-Men and his most devoted student? Xavier didn't even question whether they found him or not? At least put in a 30 second throw away scene where he tries to use Cerebro to find him.... Stupid, just stupid. Despite all of that, I really liked it. When Magneto goes crazy and starts flipping and crushing cars and gets them to Alcatraz, my inner geek was very pleased with how they pulled of the effects. My wife turned to me and said "Holy Sh!!!" as Magneto moved the bridge. Overall a B-: Some wasted opportunities and huh? what? moments/dialog and ,obviously bad wire fu, but as the end to the trilogy it holds it's own. Continuity fan boys will probably continue to hate it, but since I haven't read an X comic in over years, it worked for me. At least there weren't any ewoks throwing rock at Magneto.
  8. The final desgins are horrible. I know Bruce Timm has said that he's worn out on the DCAU, but could they at least paid him to desgin these characters?
  9. Meh, I've totally lost interest in SW after the PT left a bad taste in my mouth so, I'm going to wait and see what he does for the 30th anniversary of ANH. He'll probably release the Gold Boxx Super Cool This is teh Shizzle version of all six episodes (with even more cantina characters!!!) and a gold Wonka ticket inside sometime in 2007.
  10. Again, Hollywood proves to everyone that they have no ideas left YAMATO live action film!?!?!? I've got a bad feeling about this.
  11. There's a joke here about HG and this project, but I'm too lazy to think of it right now.
  12. Why in the frak would Breetai pilot a bioroid? I wouldn't think that he would be familiar with a bioroid since it was exclusively used by Tirolian clones. Wouldn't it make more sense for him to pilot some kind of modified zent male power armor? Then again, this is RT, where nothing makes sense.
  13. All these years since Sentinels, and Breetai couldn't get something other than a bucket for his head?
  14. I hope Gunstar Heroes makes an appearance. Way to go Nintendo. I just found my next gen system.
  15. Does anyone have the side cabinet art for any of the Macross arcade games? I was thinking about building a MAME cabinet, but the only thing I could find was the marquee art.
  16. I don't get ou to the comic book shops much these days, so the comics I do read are usually the trades or graphic novels. The last few that I read (and loved): V for Vendetta (I know, REALLY late to the party on that, but great nonetheless), Batman:Hush, and Batman: Child of Dreams. Both great Batman books.
  17. Wouldn't it be easier for them to base this off of new gen or SDCSC? I can't imagine Big West would look the other way if HG tried to do a live-action TV show based on Macross. Hell, I can't believe Kawamori would sit idly by while some american company was hell bent on bastardizing his brain-child. My magic eight ball says the producers want this to be like BSG, but it will be more like Robot Jox.
  18. Mortgage Broker. Boring stuff really. Spend most of my days trying to make more money to buy more Macross goodies.
  19. That Voltron series has been in development for a looong time. I believe I first heard about it around 3 or 4 years ago. And it still looks bad. They're re-imagining of the crew looks like some kind of mash-up of that new powered up loony toons show and the power rangers.
  20. All I can really say is W T F??? They're kidding, right? I guess HG wants to go for broke? I would think it would be smarter to see how the OAV sells before they start production on a TV show where you would actually need things like ratings and advertising dollars.
  21. I just finished watching it and it was great. I do think that it was a bit rushed though. That could have easily been a 3 part story arc,but it seemed like they just jammed it all in there. What happened to that High Father battle? Did the New Gods just lay down for Darksied? I would have though Orion would have been in touch with the JL on that one, not random tech guy #3. Best Parts from the last 2 eps: Superman unleashed John Stewart actually using his imagination Legion of Doom throw down/battle royale JL roll call running down the stairs Since it was the end of the Timm version of the DCAU you would think they would have showed Gotham under seige as well, just to give us a shot of Nightwing, Robin and Batgirl throwing down. It's too bad good shows like these have to end.
  22. I was hoping that this project would quietly die in pre-production, but apparently somone has a nice source of Maui Wowie and continues to push this along... Ving Rhames in Aquman TV Show?
  23. To us it doesn't seem like a problem because we know the difference between Tim-verse Batman and "THE" Batman. Apparently someone at WB or DC doesn't think the kiddies do, so they'd rather just have one version of an animated Batman out there. So, if there's two completely different Jokers, there's a good chance one of them (hopefully the lame one who jumps around and knows kung-fu) will languish and collect dust .At least, that's the way I understand it from other message boards. That was a pretty bad episode, but it sets us up for Luthor running the show. I think the whole ep was a nod to the superfriends and probably should have been done with a more comedic tone than a serious one.
  24. Have they already aired the season finale in the UK? I guess I need to download some movies tonight.
