Huh. What a nifty looking Hornet!
-
I'll buy it and have someone paint it for me. Too cool!
-
Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
Sildani replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
It's beautiful, and beautifully painted, but dang, it's small. -
Just to say, I want them ALL to stay in business. More companies making Valkyries = more Valkyries that will be made. No downside.
-
Ah! Very good. Just two per wing, but still it's there.
-
The 30's a nice design but it's kinda plain next to the 29. Wonder if the 30 will be the CF and the 29 the hero mecha.
-
Dunno. We said that about the YF-30 Chronos, which came out over a year ago, and no repaints yet. Which, now I think of it, is odd.
-
Hmm, good point. I can only remember the Gallia IV speakers.
-
Depending on resolution and how good the CAD designer is, the Valkyrie might just be able to be printed pre-assembled and pre-painted. Say 15 years.
-
Interesting. A redone YF-23 will be far too small. I hope Northrop-Grumman gets this. As for the Dutch: citation, please.

Or the Tornado, even.

So would I, in low-viz, and with more stability. It's really the only Zero Valkyrie I like.

You missed a big point: economies of scale. Bandai makes A LOT of toys, not just Macross Valkyries. As a result, the factories are used more, so Bandai can presumably negotiate lower costs for labor. Also, since Bandai makes more product, they can pay less for the plastic and paint and metal they use, since they use more of it and can negotiate that. Finally, since Bandai makes so many things, they can spread production costs for one product across many other product lines that aren't nearly as difficult to make properly. Oh yes, Bandai probably makes more of each Valkyrie design than Arcadia does, too. Arcadia is a small company. They simply don't have the capital, clout, or size to enjoy true economies of scale. Think of them as perhaps the largest, best funded garage kit company you've ever heard of, with access to facilities other garage kit companies would kill for, and who send you a preassembled, prepainted kit. Better?

No, that was intentional. I wanted to see how much anhedral i could get. It stays perfectly straight.

Yes to all the above, and a Grace pilot figure I'm not sure was included with the first 27.

So I've been fiddling with it, and I've gotten it into a more solid Gerwalk. The upper legs have tabs that can slot into the intakes, but it's not tight at all. I also discovered I didn't miss a joint or swivel in the legs; due to their design with many spiky bits and their construction, it's really tough to get a good a-stance. Still, I'm pretty happy with what I achieved. I pushed the wing engines away from true and drooped the outer wings to get an anhedral, and that's the 27's "bird of prey" mode I suppose. The hinges connecting the wings to the fuselage are too loose, and the wings too heavy, to try for an SV-51 look without modification. Which leads me to my biggest beef: dat gunpod. It's huge, pretty heavy, and unstable. Options to hold the gun in the hands are severely limited. Fortunately, you can still clip it into place with the front clip, as you do in fighter mode. Overall, I'm totally pleased with this. You can really see the evolution of Bandai's engineering of Valkyries, and this truly earns its "V1.5" appellation. It's not as tight or well thought out as a true Renewal, but you can easily see where care was taken to insure most everything fit into place somewhere, and wasn't so flimsy you were terrified to transform it. Looking forward to the Super Part/Fold booster combo pack for 10K! 😉

The only thing for certain, it's not supposed to be VF-30.

Alright, a few more pics! Gerwalk mode is very fiddly. The hips don't want to stay attached to the intakes, so gravity wants to keep detaching them. The underfuselage bit that holds the hip bar also doesn't seem to have a positive attachment. On the plus side, ankles are tight and they extend down from the legs with authority. Getting this thing into an A-stance is tricky. There's probably a swivel I missed somewhere. The last pic: it's Miller Time!

Also, some of the existing info is ridiculously hard to find. That's why we're lucky to have Gubaba and Seto around. Please remember, you have access to info most of the rest of us don't even know exists. Please be patient.

Who's your favorite Macross Character?
Sildani replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
Um... which name? Michael? Michel? Mikhail? I've seen all of them refer to his character; which is correct? -
I'm just used to Valkyries having the detail because most of them have pre-compressors right inside the intakes, and that's the fan you see. The 27's engines might do it another way. Nice to hear the old fold booster fits. Now Bandai needs to reissue that and some repainted super parts in a single Web Store Exclusive. Just wait...

Yes, they're stickers. More pics on Monday, probably. NO super parts. Wouldn't surprise me to hear Bandai put a super part/fold booster box set together in the near future.
