  1. This website is 100% a support group... ...For justifying our purchases.
  2. In my case it was radiation shielding, so only needed minimum thickness rather than mechanical strength. Still a pain to draft up injection molded designs since you need to keep pull direction and draft angles in mind, not to mention material shrinkage and maximum thicknesses. Plus things like gate locations and sizes.
  3. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of diecast, you get much better material properties out of machined or cold/hot worked metal. It's decent if you just need shape without any strength or ductility though (or can make everything severely over-thick). Injection molding is good, but it's so damn expensive to get the molds made (I think last thing I looked into was ~50k for molds).
  4. Depending on part separation you could use colored anodization for large areas, if you do a hard anodize it'll be resistant to wear. Really though some parts (specifically the cockpit and battroid chest/back pieces) really scream for plastic or resin materials. Might be able to use diecast as well, though they'll be more brittle.
  5. Ratchets wear more, and you'll be limited in fine-positioning. Adjustable tension is better for long-term, don't even need a fighter-mode detent if everything tabs in properly. Though the various curves will require a lot of CNC time and tool changes to achieve if it's truly all aluminum, not to mention the paint-rub issues.
  6. Obviously it's the TV version VF-4, where Hikaru has the black+yellow paintjob.
  7. Fortunately they (or at least mine) poses fairly well in battroid, and takes up less space that way. Lots of articulation, and the arm/leg joints seem stiff enough.
  8. Same spot on my box, and yes thankfully these ones don't leave goop behind.
  9. Picked up mine, just about the fastest I've ever seen from DHL. Shipped at 4pm on Monday in Japan, ready for pickup before noon on Tues in California.
  10. Needs more drills. I want though.
  11. You mean the YF-30? The VF-31a at least was mostly common with the VF-31 versions from Delta squad (even the drone charger grumble grumble)
  12. Ugh, now I can't unsee it.
  13. So this means the kitten is forgiven?
  14. Did you use the washers on both sides?
  15. I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it. I still wouldn't be sure, except you can see the wing hinges in you look closely.
  16. New estimated delivery date: 2020/02/18 - 2020/02/21 That's what mine reads as. Did you place the order direct with Amazon, and not with a 3rd party seller on Amazon?
  17. Amazon Japan just charged me: $105.22 with the fast international shipping.
  18. Yup, there is a second batch in April. The initial batch of SSP parts sold out on the P-Bandai website inside a few hours.
  19. I hereby dub the: Forehead Batman!
  20. I'll believe it's still the same base color, weathering and especially matte topcoat REALLY change what color things look.
  21. Eh, I prefer looking good over accuracy to on-screen appearance.
  22. I'll vouch for Gentei kits, I've bought quite a few things from them over the years, including the Narrative Neo Zeong.
  23. I just hope that they don't use those Max/Miria schemes. I much prefer the ones from the master file that are white underneath rather than red/blue all over.
  24. Could be due to box size, if it doesn't fit into one of HLJs normal box sizes well, the calculator is probably using a hilariously oversized box.
  25. I think they're trying different types of "premium", trying to find the sweet spot in features vs price. Obviously the PF of the SDF-1 and VF-0D is going to add more of a premium to the price than the VF-1 PFs. But will people want the appearance enough to pay it? The VF-4 might be their attempt to find a middle ground, as it adds the panel lining that wasn't on the VF-1, but doesn't go all the way with paint apps or weathering like the SDF-1 or VF-0D. It ought to be less damaged by being transformed as well.
