I've been too busy to post as often as I used to... but wanted to toss my mini review... Overall I like it. Not as nice as the little mini fig, but it does go on a transformable valk. My main beef is that Yamato had no imagination with such a large version. If the tiny ass 3 inch version can have opening missile doors, etc I expect more out of a much larger (and 10 times more expensive version). For example, no reason why would we couldn't have removable missiles ala the 1/48 FP. But I guess none of them would fit right anyways without elmers glue or something... But moreso than removable missiles (which would be kinda useless except for those who want to show partially fired GBP) I would ratehr have seen something like spring opening doors (at least for the shoulders)... anything that they could have added but the easiest would have been removable missiles (or at least missile clusters). A more minor beef is how this loses one of the best assets of the 1/60... the posability. It gives the incredibly posable armorless version articulation of a Chunky Monkey, without the sturdiness inherent in that crudely simplistic design. The codpiece? It does seem to be an issue for the older (non FP) valkyries, but there should be a very small tab on the side or something, if not made the cod piece 4 pieces so it would have reinforcement ala the hip with the side missiles or the legs with the knee guard. The Hips should either have separate hip connectors for the GBP hip covers or a special mod of the 1/60 VF-1 hip that telescopes out slightly. Could maybe even be the same piece as would be hypothetically quite useful for the shoulders! I like the shoulder slip covers. They're nice and tight. 1/60 shoulder articulation has long been screwed up due to the design... but all it needs is a telescoping (just a little bit!) shoulder joint to let the shoulder clear the chest plate... What I don't like is the shoulder missle launchers. They need a indented depression on the front/back of the shoulder slip covers and a corresponding detent/knob on the inside of the launcher covers to make them not want to rotate when opening the doors. Overall, I like the armor, but won't be buying another set unless Yamato pulls their head out of their ass.

Just one armor set. Unless they release an improved version that fixes the crotch piece in partiuclar (if not adding longer pegs to the GBP hip joint cover itself), I probably won't be getting another...
-
I imagine the Ghost would try similar tactics in space. Attack runs at high speed... I could see Gerwalk especially being effective with Valkyries flying as fast as possible NOE in a particularly moutainous and/or jungle terrain...
-
Nice. Are they all to a common scale?
-
Yup. Better than that beastly looking Mad Max Armadillo thing.

Those little black diamonds on the sides. Those are missile launchers. I love the YF-21FP. My 2nd favorite valk (after my 1/48 Low Viz). I really wish Yamato would release a VF-22S version with the parts they sculpted. Maybe tighter hip joints or something, but no biggie. I'd prefer a redesign for FP panels that include functional landing gear (more space in thsee things than the normal fighter mode leg covers!).
-
Eh... I see the bar at that level with the 1/48's backpack strength. At least this sounds like Banpresto tricks (nail polish, etc) can keep the armor on. Can't wait to get mine! Long live 1/60, w00t!

The kicker is that Yamato themselves have scuplted the appropriate parts. I really wish they'd do a couple slight tweaks and release a VF-X2 VF-22S already. Or at least release a kit (ala the 1/60 FP upgrade vaporware) to let us do it ourselves. Ah well.

Ah irony is delicious, aint it?

I'm thinking of getting me another YF-21FP or two for customization. Definately get us clearer pics. What did you do for a canopy?

Star Wars OT on DVD - Official - Sept 21st

Ask for it? Not at all. To expect it or feel entiitled to it? Definately. Now I'm not saying you feel it's your God Given Right to own a copy of the original trilogy in their original cut. Or that Lucas has a sacred duty to anyone to produce what they want to buy. But there are those who feel that way. -
Interesting thread. I was expecting it to go sideways like the Last Samurai thread did. The movie was ok. They weren't gonna stay true to the different (and not entirely complimentary) sources out there. Everyone should have known that going in. I woudln't have minded the gods being in there, but it's difficult to do so in a way that people don't laugh. Especially if they see a guy in a Toga throwing lightning bolts. My only real "beef" is with the ending. I would have liked to see Paris die and Helen back with Menelaus. These are important aspects IMO. I would have liked to have seen the sense of futility that the long war dragged out, but it'd be difficult to implement in a single movie. On the Greek side, they'd be facing desertion (amidst Achilles tantrums) and on the Trojan you'd see the initial favor towards Helen displaced by animosity and blame. I think it would have been best to have done a trilogy: 1st Movie, show why the Greeks (particularly Agammemnon) don't like the Trojans more. Have Agammemnon struggling to unify Greece or some such (again no need to stay strictly towards what we know of history... the surviving myths are foggy enough that there's plenty of room to play). I'd say have the Trojans nix a crucial conquest of Agammenon or something only to have it saved (kidna) by Achilles. Towards the middle have Paris go to Sparta and Menelaus decide for peace. Paris and Helen start doing their thing, etc. At the end, she decides to go with him and the war starts. Achilles gets Breisis. 2nd Movie starting with the tag that X years have passed. War is in the meatgrinder phase. Achilles is kicking ass and taking names here and there showing the vicious psychopath he is (he is far too sympathetic in the movie, at least as depicted by Homer). I think it's important they show that the Trojans screw up some of the attempts at peace (breaking the truce, etc), as they do in the Iliad. Have the Achilles and Agammemnon dispute over Breisis and Achilles leaves the war. War starts turning against the Greeks. Death of Patroclus and the return of Achilles to the fight. War edges back to the Greeks. Achilles kills Hector and Troy comes under siege. 3rd movie starting right after the 2nd. The siege of Troy drags on. Achilles should die about half way through the movie IMO. Could be very surprising if implemented right. War looks to bog down into an unbreakable stalemate. Odysseus rises as the main character. Troy is sacked. Scene set for possible Aneid and Odyssey sequels. OH well they ruined what could have been a franchise (prequel and sequel possibilities abound).

Lots of cool stuff in there. What scale were those Starship Troopers suits gonna be in? I like the Sulaco, too...
-
I'm mixed. Looks pretty nice, but it's also pretty small. I just wish they had done 1/72. I also hope 1/60 scale is coming!
-
Eh, everyone here is going to see it eventually. Surf's up! Seriously, think about it... I think at least part of the fight would be on these surf platforms, but all of it? It's supposed to be one long ass duel... Sounds like the Best Star Wars Movie evAr!

The first part is dead right. The second part is dead wrong. Do his jackbooted thugs (ex Federal agents fired for brutality, probably) gonna come over and force you to buy the new release? -
Hmm... pretty sure I'll pass on the Max... at least if I can't find it cheap and on sale somewhere. But I still kinda want the red one. I DEFINATELY want green more than purple...
-
Ozone? What about "normal" fuel and ordinance burning up in a fire? What about the hypothetical pilot? Your priorities are all screwed up, dude!
-
I put the FAST packs on. Looks ok. But I took them off to put them on my Hikaru 1S. I definately like them as atmospheric valks. But IMO, if one was to "re-do" Macross, or at least feature a different squadron or whatever (like the PS2 game), the Low-Viz should be the CF.
-
I can't wait to get this thing, that's all I know. I'm thinking one or two 1/60 sets. I'll probably pass on 1/48 if/when it comes out.
-
Heh. Even A1 is too 'girly man' to be a King by His Own Hand. I really just wish the Governator would do it. My understanding was that King Conan was becomming "old and sodded" (like King Oscric from the first movie). There's also no questioning that the Destroyer and Red Sonja don't match up to the Barbarian, but they can still be entertaining.
-
Who's got the license? I kinda wish Bandai would do it in a big enough volume that they could have price lower than Yamato could manage. But realistically a VF-2SS (much less a Metal Siren) would be in low volume. Ah well.
-
Man I wish the TRU special could have been the lighter shade and the mass produced one the darker. I would so have at least 3 of them darker ones if they weren't so damned expensive. Be better yet if they were Bandai reissue color but the darker TRU 1/60 would work, too. I'm not feeling the lighter shade, though...
-
1/60's are definately better toys. Better sized (especially with FAST packs)... And you don't have to worry about breaking your backpack off, either.
-
I hear you. And may the Regult (with numerous variants) be in 1/60 scale.
