  1. The problem is that there's just enough room between the legs to fit the arms as designed. Trying to get the arms any more recessed would mean the arms would have to be forced forwards are backwards, otherwise there would be excessive pressure/friction between the arms. As justvinnie found out, transformation kibble gets in the way of the arms being able to move forward, thus only a minor improvement. I've always thought Yamato should have beefed up the 1/48 intakes just a little to hide the shoulders better. Proportions similar to the 1/60 would have been fine, and would have hidden the shoulders better. This is the reason why the VF-0 shoulders don't seem to hang as far done - huge (but lineart accurate) farkin' intakes.
  2. Is it me our does the fighter look much sleeker in this magazine shot. Godamnit, just when I convinced myself I won't get one because the fighter is too porky.
  3. Yamato should just add circle bullseye stickers for dressing up FPs that go on CFs
  4. From macrossnexus thread - "In other news, I've been told that in fighter mode, the 1/60 YF-19 is actually slightly longer than the 1/60 VF-0S, by about 10mm. However, in battroid mode, due to the way the YF-19's torso transforms, the battroid mode is about 1 inch shorter than the VF-0S. - Graham"
  5. The 1/48 was (is) the pinnacle of mastergrade toys that are still fun to transform and play with. I like the zeros for their detail and lineart-accuracy, but I probably won't get another after the 0A. My 0S never really got played with after a few transformations. If the YF-19 has the same issues with pain-in-the-a$$ tranformation, loose-fitting connections, and delicate parts, I'd be reluctant to get one, esp. since I am not too keen on the looks of the fighter mode. It's just too much money for a static display piece. I'd rather get a good airbrush/compressor and get back into modeling.
  6. I haven't heard anything new... the 0A is getting no love in the shadow of the YF-19. I'm very excited about getting my 0A in the next few weeks (tampo or no tampo).
  7. I think there's variation even among the same line of 1/48s. I know my DYRL Hikaru (2nd edition 1S) was noticeably more yellow than my DYRL Roy (4th edition). The white on my CF is right in-between the shade on the hikkie and the Roy.
  8. Don't feel too bad about the comments. I did a whole bunch of research on the 1/48 vs 1/60 debate before buying my first yamato last year, and I STILL chose a 1/60 (Roy w/out fastpacks) based purely on overall proportions. Needless to say it was a disappointment, and I've been all 1/48s ever since. One way to deal with Hikaru's white-ass painted legs so they don't get dirty - spray them with a nice tough satin/semigloss acrylic clearcoat like Varithane or Polycrylic. This will keep the legs from getting dirty and the clear won't yellow.
  9. You're right, you only need about 20% of your brain cells to function anyways. I killed about a billion in college, what's a billion more ? Seriously, use whatever works best in the name of modeling and modding, but keep those windows open .
  10. As a warning, don't use methylene chloride (AKA dichloromethane) for modeling unless you have a very well ventilated work area. This stuff is about 2 to 5X as toxic as the stuff in normal model cement (MEK). MSDS ...but, if it can effectively bond a broken BP8, then glue away (just dont inhale)!
  11. Hey 1 VF-1 2NV That Max -1S looks familiar ! Nice photography.
  12. 1As look best w/ the super pack (no strike cannon), a la the opening battle in DYRL. Re-watch Max man-handling that regult and giving the soldier's face the gattling gun treatment - to me, that's the super 1A in action at its finest. The low-vis 1A is a bit plain looking to make the normal or stealth FPs work IMHO. Count my reissue as one that did NOT have this problem, so it may just be a hit or miss problem with newer 1/48s, possibly due to mold degradation?
  13. Seriously R_deckard, I'd like to know how the fart you managed to get such good detail and color contrast without a flash, even on the Super Stealth? Can this be done at night-time (the only time I have to do this stuff)? I've tried using a tripod and as much makeshift lighting as I could around midnight with cheap torchier lamps. I do not have a single decent overhead light in my house. Let me know what type of lighting you use. This is the best I could do... On top of the toilet - the best light in the house ! By the light of my kitchen hood (pretend the orange hue is a sunset)

    Vf-1j Max

You may have seen this, but there's a Milia for sale here: Super Milia 1J Better price than Ebay prices, if you don't want to wait for a reissue.
  15. Buy one of these for a few cents at the hardware store, and be the first kid on your block with an Adjustable-Tension Ball Socket Toynami Stand!
  16. Yes, samurai-monkey's most recent order was for the second edition 0S. People have them in hand, but we haven't gotten a full report on the relative floppiness.
  17. More Zentran steak ???s - Would the muscle fibers of a dead Zentradi be proportionally bigger? That would be one tough bite, even if you go the tenderloin. I suppose on a cellular structure, muscle cells can only be so big, so maybe the Zentran muscle strands wouldn't be so big. Otherwise, we'd be stuck with Zentran hot dogs and other processed luncheon meats. Maybe someone who's eaten whale can chime in
  18. Can anyone confirm if the 0A will in fact be released early (8/25/06)?? so says Kevin
  19. People to this day "what-if" about issues with VF-1 toys (including me ), but we all know Yamato will not change these, so we continue to shell out money for repaints of the same old toy. From one perspective, we just like to complain to vent and see if others feel the same way. From another perspective, most Macross fans have been starving for goodies since childhood, and now that we finally have the money and there's a company that is marketing high-end stuff, we want absolute perfection. The definition of absolute perfection is of course subject to debate (hence these type of threads).
  20. Well that tears it, I'll have to get a Max to put the stealth packs on - those yellow nukes really clash, however. Gotta paint the tips. Back on topic- get the Hikaru 1S, you won't regret it (esp if you get the fastpacks).
  21. ZOMG! That's what I'm talkin' about! I didn't think I'd need the Ghost, but that pic rocks. Looks like the Ghost connect via the rocket pods and clips to the tail fins. Also, I hope the production model -0A has the same colors. Anime-correct or not (and low-vis or not), I love that scheme.
  22. Of the DYRL valks, I think a Max type would look best with the Stealth FPs in fighter mode, with the blue skull on the booster pack. The blue would really set off the black, gray, and metallic paint on the FPs. I'm pretty much in the black-skull-for-Hikaru -1S camp. Chowser, any chance of fighter mode pics of your Max -1S w/ the Stealth packs ? Otherwise, I'll have to buy another Roy to customize and do it myself.
