  1. Went back to look at older posts and saw I didn't fully answer your qeustion! OOPS!!! I used the post connection that came with the Bandai over-engineered VF-1S kit, and simply drilled a square hole (reinforced to take the post) for it to slip into. Kind of a pain though; I should have done the swing-bar instead like Yamato. Maybe someday i'll get a 1/60 when my ship comes in (and doesn't sink on the way! )
  2. You're doing fine so far; it's going to need a lot of surface prep to remove those engraved panels, so just let the process "be the process" and work to get it finished. Take it slow and don't rush to complete any sections. if you need to, take some time off for a little bit and switch to another project. Mine is still in primer and re-re-reworking!
  3. On those pylons, you're going to want at least an epoxy to glue them into place (trust me on this). And when you do, you may want to set this so that after gluing the pylons (but before they cure) you can align the warp engines so they don't go in weird directions and adjust the pylons as they cure. Those tabs and the plastic they slide into are not very strong, so REINFORCE THE HELL out of them before you commit. You'll be doing yourself and the model a huge favor.
  4. Do yourself a HUGE favor: get a polyester-based filler and fill the panel lines that you don't want. If you try sanding all that off, you're going to be there forever, not to mention you'll run the risk of sanding off detail and drastically changing the shape of the hull. Ask the gang here for a good suggestion on filler putty.
  5. The blue stuff I think has more polymers in it, plus that annoying ORANGE scent. You may as well be using Elmer's Glue for all the good it will do you. lol I like the liquid cements for certain procedures and tube for others; for tough jobs (like fixing my VF-1S yesterday after the arms snapped off at the bicep rotators! O.o ), I prefer Devcon Plastic Weld. I can literally build parts out of it (two part epoxy like system).
  6. I'm sorry, but while the design of the Top Gun/ Transformers x-over figure looks okay, the paint job looks like Maverick did a barrel roll through dog crap. O.o I mean, I know it's supposed to be a dog fighter but really...this is taking it a bit far...
  7. Yeah, i went "all-out" and actually reshaped hull parts. I even widened the pylons and redesigned the pylon/secondary hull connection.
  8. Huh...wouldn't it be something if they actually found a way to link up to MII?
  9. I have a 1/537 that I'm STILL trying to finish:
  10. Or someone like the Marduk, if you're into Macross II.
  11. I built about 20 of those or so during my lifetime (kept trying to get it right!) and I absolutely HATED the tab system for the nacelles! In fact, there's an entire build on starshipmodeler's main site that someone took and corrected most of the flaws: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/trek/cz_ertl_refit.htm I REALLY wish they'd resize the 1/350 down to a 1/537-size version!
  12. Try putting the parts in the freezer overnight, then take them out and carefully work along the seam lines. They should pop apart.
  13. Well, if you wanted to, you could always reprint the decals for these, strip the model parts and do a rebuild on it. Dunno if you would consider it worthwhile or not though, but it would be interesting. The factory itself looks like it wouldn't need that much; just some touchup in a couple of areas.
  14. Yeah, I remember the Yellow Submarine ones; solid resin. I'd love to get my hands though on a Hasegawa Storm Attacker TV version and do a transform for it. By the looks of it, should be possible.
  15. Peter, I think you've got a LOT to be proud of with your work! You've come a long way since your models at 10 years old, and the experience and skill you've gained shows tremendously in your work!
  16. I think for the TV series it's in the center, and for DYRL, it's the leg (I believe folks with differing ideas did DYRL).
  17. Just do a wash over the parts and it should hide any overhangs just fine.
  18. I think by the time of M+, Myung and Isamu were no longer the people they had been all those years ago when the incident with Guld happened. She had her world, Isamu had his, and they probably remained friends but chose to go their separate ways. Not to mention the pain of losing Guld would have made things just hurt too much for them. I make this comment in light of my previous suggestion that "she probably divorced his sorry ass", with the realization that there was now probably too much that happened between them, and they were different now in their experiences. Eden will always be "that place where the contest happened" for Isamu, while it would have its' own bad memories for Myung. Earth would probably remind them both of Guld's death, so my opinion is that Myung would either go back to music and either perform herself, or manage another singer and 'take her/him under her wing". Isamu being a space trucker...well, the fleets would probably need shipments as would the colonies. JMO, for what it's worth...
  19. Right? Some really awesome work from the gang here! Next up for my work: going to be building a bunch of small equipment for the Macross Factory. Welders, acetylene tanks, small wheeled generators, cutting torches... ... and a few soda machines! Coke, Pepsi...and Petite Cola! I just have to find some 1/72 scale figures that can go in the factory (looking pretty scarce), and as usual, my local hobby shop doesn't sell them. (pengbuzz wonders if he can find one of Misa chasing Hikaru across the factory floor with a pipe wrench, ready to brain him? )
  20. Hey... all our work looks bad when we're right in the middle of it. Just consider yours "in progress", and don't worry about how it looks at the moment! I'm pretty sure the rest of the gang here will agree with me.
  21. Oh, my PC has enough issues already without that. I need to reinstall my programs and OS, but I got none of the original disks and license numbers from the shop who sold me it. in 2011. (yup, my machine is ancient...serves me right, neophyte that I am; at least it still works. One day, I'd like to build my own if I can ever get money that doesn't need to go to bills). Anyways: I had driver issues with my GPU a while ago (1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 EVGA*), and kept getting screen blackouts and "Driver stopped responding and has recovered " messages. I tried updating the drivers and redoing them, all to no avail. Finally, I just rolled it back to the original driver it came with and left it. *yup...any cheaper and it would be an etch-a-sketch!
  22. Well, there's two minutes and fifteen seconds of my life that I won't get back... No wonder Starfleet didn't send anyone to help the Romulans when their world detonated; a crew like that would only have made things worse.
