Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
pengbuzz replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
It would certainly give a whole new meaning to the term "fold", now wouldn't it? -
Gotta love them furballs! lol UPDATE: in a really miserable mood right about now. Main transform joint for the cockpit snapped clean in half, and the legs were looking a bit spindly. Took my frustrations out on the fighter in the form of tearing it all the way back down to components and rebuilding the cockpit joint and the legs. I only have a couple of pics right about now, but I hope to have more later: Added note: the fighter looks far more purple-red in the photographs than it does IRL. All the red seems to just pop out, while normally, it all looks about purple/red/black when viewed normally, with only a shade or two difference between the colors.

Much appreciated! Thanks!

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!

I still laugh about the "chunky salsa" comment I read somewhere a while back. Seriously though, something like this would be useful for the YF-19 (and Dyson's aging bones). I've noted that as well: their transforms use some really strange concepts that I would have to venture require a considerable amount of maintenance, as well as place certain parts under some phenomenal stresses as well. I can imagine even being robustly built, some of those parts are going to have "mean times to failure" that are considerably shorter than standard transforms. Also: would it be fair to say that some of those transformation schemes could conceivably leave exposed weak points. I know the way the arms transform on the Drakken have them on one "spar" that rotates (if memory serves) and that puts a lot on one part. That piques an idea I had in the back of my mind: what would craft developed by a joint venture with surviving Protoculture designers/ New Unity Govt look like? Ah, thanks for the heads- up on that (pun intended! ). And yeah: the 17 seems to use a faceted panel design; I don't recall f the 17 had the wraparound holographic viewpanels in-cockpit, but I imagine it would be sorely needed for such lack of visibility. -

Essentially a "cyber canopy" that has no direct transparent feature, right? That would eliminate a considerable weak point, although taking the sensors out would effectively blind the pilot, so some redundancy would be needed for the sensor as well as an option to jettison the cover and rely on at least a small canopy transparency (i.e. the "dome" on the YF-21's cockpit). -
Actually...no I didn't. Do you have a link to any news?

Welcome to Macross World! Your work is absolutely stunning!!!

Thanks for the info, but pc cannot handle the online CAD either (tried in the past and blew a RAM card in the process). I think I'll just settle for the valk i have.
-
My computer cannot handle a 3D printer; it's on it's last legs as it is.

That would be the bomb! I still need to convince my library to let me 3d print a gunpod and super armor, but they're not thrilled at the idea.

"Yes, I'd like a VF-1 Valkyrie Value meal, supersized!" -
Sorry, not familiar with that one. O.o

UPDATE: Some refinements, the gunpod, and gerwalk mode:

This one's for you, Big Tam:

Thanks MT! In developing this, I wanted to go with something believable in both shape as well as function. Also, I didn't want a transformation that would take 3 weeks, 24 engineers and 5 supercomputers to figure out! Glad you like it! I've done more since the last pics; I'll try to get some tonight to show the latest progress. Thanks Arbit! Bit it's gonna get a lot smoother when you see the next pics, trust me!

I would have thought that a Destroid would have to have better radiation shielding at least, given that it cannot maneuver like a Variable Fighter as to get out of a situation where high radiation was an issue. Also, wouldn't high-winds make flying impossible for VF's but not inhibit ops so much for a Destroid on the ground (blowing them all over the place)?

What is Macross II? It would have to be a unique situation that would call for the particular strength and talents of the Destroids over those of the Variable Fighters. I personally think it would have to be a kind of environment where flight would be all but impossible, maneuverability would be limited across the board, tremendous endurance, armor and high firepower were required, and it would be specifically land-based. A possible situation would be a planet where high winds and a particular radiation made current propulsion technology for fighters inoperable, relegating any mech to land ops. High armor would be needed as would endurance, and enemies in this world would require high amounts of ordnance to combat successfully.

Well, it was more united that they had previously been, to be certain. That said, the fact that Anti-UN got their hands on the tech demonstrates the human propensity to get into trouble without any assistance as well.

UPDATE: still trying to develop a backpanel for the mech. Otherwise, refined paintjob a bit with an over-tint of purple and applied some markings: I finally settled on a name I like for the craft: "Valkren". The designation for it is SVF-74R. The "Omega" symbol indicates its' air callsign, taking after the original "Omega One" for the Yf-21 ( As a point in the story for the Macross RPG I'm a part of, General Galaxy is developing this particular fighter in competition to the Three Star heavy Industry VF-113 within the Macross 14th Colonization Fleet. Both will take part in a multi-fleet stealth fighter contest that the Unity Government has going, with finals to be conducted at New Edwards on Eden). Also, this needs a gunpod; gotta work that up soon... Stay tuned...
