  1. IF YOU BUILD IT WE WILL COME
  2. I dunno, I found my 31J way less fiddly than the Bandai 25s I'd built just before it. It held together better, and the legs actually tucked up into fighter mode nicely, forming a nice tight seal with the fuselage where the 25s always always ALWAYS had ugly gaps, regardless of how much I worked the joints to try to get them to fit into place. I agree the under-wing panel is dumb, though. Terrible design decision, that.
  3. The original pitch for the show was two competing aerobatics/idol teams, with both teams flying the VF-31 and SV-262, respectively. Makes me wonder what the Windermere idol group would have been... maybe a boy band that sang as they flew?
  4. I love Macross and I love Ace Combat, and yet I never thought to mix the two. Beautiful job! What are the kits that the decals/paint schemes came from? My first guess is two different F-14A releases.
  5. When/where was this?
  6. Wow, I've never seen this plane before. I really like the look of it. Best of luck!
  7. Ditto. For whatever reason, I like that this is very much "the model in its natural environment" instead of some of the fancier photo shoots/paint jobs/dioramas/etc. that try to make it too good of a model. ...if that makes any sense.

    Bandai DX VF-31

Hey everyone. Haven't kept up with this thread. Is there any word on a VF-31A release? DX, Bandai 1/72 or Mecha Colle kit, Hasegawa kit?
  9. Having completely disengaged from the series by now (I've not bothered to pay attention to the show since the late teens or so, and have downloaded but not watched any of the last four or five episodes), I'd like to see a movie that just completely reboots the story. Not a retelling, not an adaptation. Go back to the original idea: competing air shows. Keep the scope of the story limited and personal. On the fringe battlegrounds of a war, if you absolutely must. A relatively small and ultimately unimportant skirmish. A war in the pocket, if you will. I doubt they'll go that route, of course. That said, I like all the Macross movie adaptations just fine. Took me a while to warm up to the Frontier movies, but eventually I turned around on those as well. And Macross Plus makes for a better movie than an OVA. I'm sure if they did make one/two/three, I'd end up enjoying those as much as if not more than I did the series.
  10. "I'll post pics," he says, then proceeds to wait a week or two. Anyway, here are some poor phone camera pics of the P-Bandai exclusive itasha (unassembled) kits. The cut lines on the sticker sheets might not show due to resizing, but they're definitely stickers and not waterslide decals. Clear Yellow = VF-31E, Reina Clear Blue = VF-31J, Freyja Clear Green = VF-31S, Mikumo Clear Red = VF-31C, Makina Clear Black = VF-31F, Kaname All come with a colorless clear B runner (upper fuselage, doesn't show well in pictures). Box, runners: Construction pamphlet: Sticker sheet:
  11. Prime and prime again until the panel lines fill in?
  12. Yeah, I noticed that yesterday as well. No need for this thread, then. Mods, feel free to delete/close.
  13. 1.) He funded the dev of the ADVANCE himself? Sheesh. 2.) I don't think that scene was in the OVA, only in the movie. If people have only seen the OVA, it's understandable they wouldn't know that. I could be wrong, though. That being said, his willingness to take the blame doesn't necessarily mean that he does. It wouldn't have surprised me if Isamu did suffer some fallout from the incident regardless of Millard's cover-up. EDIT: Wow, reading through even just the first page of the linked thread is all sorts of enlightening. A bunch of ways to interpret the incident between Isamu/Myung/Guld seven years ago that I never even considered. Really fun reading. In the end I don't think it matters too much the specifics of what happened, because the story being told doesn't call for those specifics, but it sure is interesting to think about. Except that I remain steadfastly convinced that the sexual assault (because it was sexual assault, let's get that clear) did not advance to the point of penetration. Or, for that matter, anywhere beyond what was revealed in the flashback: Guld (either already in a Zentraedi rage or incited into one by what he sees) knocks out Isamu, traps Myung and rips her clothes, then sees himself in the mirror. Anything beyond that would have had more... irreparable consequences for the triangle, and would have rendered that triangle less complicated than it ultimately is. God, I love this story so much.
  14. Hasegawa don't often do new toolings of existing models. More often you'll see re-releases with new decals. Usually these don't merit too much of an increase in price at first, but these kits are also almost always limited edition, so the price can get understandably high over time.
  15. I saw this a few days ago, and my reaction now is the same as it was then: It looks kind of crap in general. Yeah, there's the dumb white guy narrator protagonist because of course there is, and there's the dumb white guy narrator protagonist gets funky with hot exotic girl because of course there is, but that's easy pickings, really. What really made me laugh was the action being done by "the martial arts team behind X-Men." Because surely when you think of the fight scenes from X-Men, you think of top-notch martial arts choreography. (Also that limp jump down to floor level at the end made me snicker, though to its credit, it DID remind me of X-Men.) Otherwise it just reeks of generic "based on a true story" Hollywood filming and storytelling.
  16. I prefer the movie version, but my take on the questions: 1) Myung likes and dislikes Isamu for his attitude. The reverse is also true. This dynamic extends to Guld as well. All three of them also tend to misdirect their anger towards each other. You hurt the ones you love, and they all love each other in their own ways. 2) Artistic effect to showcase how fast they're going. In most countries around the world it's illegal to go supersonic except in specifically-defined zones and altitudes because the sonic boom that results can cause physical harm to the surroundings. (Also, video of the window-breaking phenomenon:) And I believe it's implied if not stated outright that they're in an abandoned part of Macross City at that point, so no casualties. 3) I think the full exchange goes something like Guld [struggling with the Ghost]: "It's no use. I have to remove the plane's limiters. [To Isamu:] Oy, Isamu. How's it going over there?" Isamu: "It's going great! I even found Myung!" Guld: "Is that so? [To both Isamu and Myung?:] I never had the chance to say: I'm sorry." Isamu: "Hey!" [Here he infers what Guld will do.] Guld: "I'll be done here soon. Was hoping to have a drink with you afterward." Isamu [not wanting to accept that Guld will do what he thinks Guld will do]: "Yeah, sounds good." Guld [as screen cuts to Myung, who's also coming to the same conclusion as Isamu]: "Here's a toast to our seven-year reunion. Well, then. I have to go now." Isamu [his fears confirmed]: "Hey!" Guld starts out the conversation knowing that he'll have to disengage the limiters, and more than likely die to take out the Ghost. He takes a few moments to say his final farewells, at which time Isamu and Myung realize what's going on. In the OVA he crashes into the Ghost a few moments later, but in the movie he chases it a little longer for dramatic effect. 4) Drama. There might be legitimate physical justifications, but mainly it's for dramatic effect. EDIT: It's in fighter mode with its landing gear deployed.
  17. http://hlj.com/product/KZC10002 http://www.collectiondx.com/news_item/81016/kitz_concept_super_deformed_robotech_vf1s_roy_fokker Saw the HLJ link on my Facebook page, and brief researching turned up the CollectionDX link. It's branded as a Robotech toy, but all the same. I dunno if it already has a dedicated topic, but in case it doesn't, I figured I'd share for those who are interested. MSRP of 8800 JPY.
  18. Confirmed stickers only. Will post pictures as proof in a bit.
  19. Bloody hell. Just received mine from From Japan that ended up costing me somewhere around $80 total...
  20. Amen. I would, in a heartbeat, buy an artbook or even just individual poster versions of them.
  21. This. I think a fixed-mode 2-set would make for a better display piece anyway. The major feat (and what would be an engineering marvel) is a working cape-to-wings mechanic, or a sword with working extendo-blade.
  22. I'm honestly surprised (in a good way) that so much of us are as hyped as we are. I'd have thought my post would go with nary a response. In response to Sandman, it might have been popular in the west, but I'm pretty sure it just came and went in Japan. The movie itself only happened due to Western demand; the creators and main audience were well and ready to move on to The Next Anime.
  23. Here's resurrecting a decade-old thread for some news. Courtesy of Gundam Eclipse member Kiske: Anyone else hoping for a new tooling from anyone of any mecha from this show? I've been eyeing those old Kotobukiya resin kits for ages now and might finally bite in time for this.
  24. Hm. Glue has got me thinking a question: How well/poorly does this kit hide its seam lines? All the pics suggest it's done a great job. And what is the paint application like? Did they paint over sections that have to be glued together, thereby rendering plastic cement less effective? (Because there's a layer of paint between the solvent and plastic, you see.)
  25. The kit is 1/144 scale, so the fighter mode kits are a bit larger than the Mecha Colle VFs (which roughly scale to 1/200 or something like that). This scale also means the battroid kit will be roughly 1/4 the size of the 1/72 kit (1/2 the height and 1/2 the width).
