New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)
kajnrig replied to Tochiro's topic in Movies and TV Series
My, somebody's in some sort of mood today. I said what I said in good spirits; dislike the game all you want, I'm not saying you're wrong. You're just getting more and more off-topic is all. I'd argue they could even ditch the giant transforming planes and coast for a few good years on idol groups alone, judging by the AKBs and the Idolmasters. Actually that'd be really interesting to see, now I think about it... -

Whoa, hey now. Trash talk each other all you want, but leave Plat-G and my Rising of the Revengeance out of this, yeah? No one badmouths Revenge Rising without suffering THE WRATH OF THE USA! ...ahem. -

asdf What IS, generally, the HG-branded take on Macross? I can't imagine it must be THAT negative, considering so much of Macross, including the soap opera pop music elements, formed the backbone of Robotech... Regarding Plus, it's hard to argue against the fact that it was and remains the storytelling high mark of the franchise. I still hold up the movie edition as one of the gold standards of anime. Macross Zero has similarly dark tones and way, way more action, yet lags far behind in the storytelling department. Also, Kojima is about the least subtle game director. He's still one of the very few Good Auteurs out there, who makes good games that succeed despite their/his glaring flaws, but subtle is most certainly not in his vocabulary. -

Macross has been going downhill since frickin' Plus, but then again there's only one place TO go once you've reached the mountain top. And it's not like it was a leap off a cliff or anything, more like a slow trek to another cap in the distance. Delta was disappointing, but I'm inclined to agree with this sentiment: I'm still hopeful that a Delta movie will reset the story to its original air show setting. Likable characters in a less high-stakes setting would be a fun Macross watch. Not everything needs to hang the fate of the world in the balance. Plus certainly didn't. It was just three people, a competition to see who could fly the flyest, and a sexy robot. -

Bandai Macross Δ Mecha Collection Small Scale Plastic Model Kits
kajnrig replied to IXTL's topic in Model kits
I, like a fool, bought this before it became a P-Bandai exclusive item. (Previously it was exclusive to some theater or final episode screening or something.) I forget how much it cost me, and that's probably for the best... As is, it's probably out of production now. But you can try using From Japan (or other proxy services that I forget the names of at the moment) to buy it. Understand, though, that you'll have to use Japanese search terms/characters and/or this item's particular product page from the P-Bandai site. -

Hasegawa 1/72 VF-19EF/A Isamu Special *March pre-order*

I should also mention that the VF-25F/S Super Messiah (and G and RVF kits as well) seem to be regular releases, not LE kits, which means they'll be seeing more regular production runs. The regular G and RVF were LE releases. -
Since these are DIY projects, durability is necessarily a case-by-case thing. For my part: - I wouldn't consider any Bandai VF "durable" to the same degree as, say, DX/Yamcadia toys. Toyish as they might be, they're still model kits, and a tumble will likely knock many many pieces out of place or off completely. - Joint stiffness isn't a problem overall, save for issues raised below. - The Frontier kits hold together well enough in Battroid/Gerwalk mode, but Fighter mode is a chore, and the legs are prone to drooping because nothing slots them into the wings, putting all the weight on the hip joint. The Armored Pack fixes this issue by integrating a peg/slot mechanism, but also adds more weight to the extremities in Battroid/Gerwalk mode. This caused the shoulders/hips to sag, making the kit unposable on a display stand. - The VF-1s are a fragile mess. - The Delta kits are better than the Frontier kits overall, owing in part to simpler transformation mechanics. They have enough pegs/slots to hold things together. Their Super Packs aren't as obtrusive as the Frontier ones, either. While I had problems with both the VF-31 and the SV-262, the joints themselves serve their purpose just fine across their entire ranges of motion.

Why should they? When advertising the new hotness, make the old one look as bad as possible.

Oh herp derp me. Look at the price/release information. "Accelerate Evolution" isn't a new kit line at all, just another tagline for a la "All Gundam Project" (back when they were making a push to make MGs of all the lead Gundam suits). Still, I'm not seeing any reason why it couldn't have just continued the Revive naming. The tagline implies something new when the kit itself... isn't.

Sharing a pic from Donatello over on GE. High Grade Accelerate Evolution Zeta Gundam --- I'm not sure why the need for an entirely new branding/kit line, as it seems to do much the same thing as the recent HGUCs/Revives. Maybe it'll focus on transforming designs?

Hasegawa 1/72 VF-19EF/A Isamu Special *March pre-order*
kajnrig replied to slide's topic in Model kits
Agreed. Think of this as a limited edition kit similar to the "VF-0A/S w/ Ghost" that is getting a re-issue. It's an existing mold (1/72 VF-0S or YF-19) repackaged with new parts and/or decals (Ghost + 0A head; Fast/Advanced Pack) to make a new kit. Hasegawa often re-releases scale aircraft kits in this limited edition fashion to account for various countries' various squadrons' various markings. -
Hobbylink.tv unboxes MG GM Sniper II. Some takeaways: - Weapons runner is Runner WP "MG Weapon." - Hands runner is Runner MP "MS Hand A." (Says it's from 2012, they don't know which kit.) - Uses some frame parts from RX-78-2 2.0. (Arms, hips/skirt, legs.) - Includes dry-transfer decals. - They also look at snapbuilds of the HGBF Lunagazer Gundam (compared to HGUC (Revive?) Hyaku Shiki and HG Stargazer), HG Origin Guncannon Mobility/Thermal Test Type (compared to Iron Calvary Squadron kit), and the MG Unicorn Titanium Finish (twin frame version). https://youtu.be/SWzxJxn5-bA?t=8m9s

From the pics I see, would I be correct in thinking the WPP is essentially the Avalanche Exia's beam sabers replaced by another pair of GN Sword Long/Short?

My closet is perpetually half-closed for this very reason...
-
I'm half-certain that's the same kit as the conversion but with the necessary VF-25 parts included as resin recasts. I say that based solely on the parts pictures, so... Yeah. Take that with all the grains of salt.
-
The YF-29 conversion kit wasn't/isn't transformable, by the way. It's a fixed fighter mode kit. http://www.e2046.com/p/22799

Ah, thanks for the pics. Yeah, that's the Avalanche Dash, not the original Avalanche, but it's still odd that that weapon was never reproduced on any official model kit or figure. I guess it must have been dropped somewhere along the way. Anyway, it looks pretty frickin' neat. Now all it needs is to be able to split into two.

Hasegawa 1/72 VF-19EF/A Isamu Special *March pre-order*
kajnrig replied to slide's topic in Model kits
Looking at those forward shoulder parts again, are they supposed to be missile launchers like the ones that hang from the top chest/shoulders on the VF-25? On the DX Advance they're just depicted as armor pieces, but the line art (more so the Hasegawa one than the CG model profile) suggests a door with a hinge on the back... I doubt they would articulate, though. Maybe they'll provide options to build them closed or open... if they're even missile launchers at all. -

Thanks. I've bookmarked it for future purchase when I start my next PW stockpile. -
I don't remember the Avalanche Exia ever having that weapon, either. To my knowledge, the AE has the same weapons as the stock Exia (ie the Seven Swords), just moved to a storage rack on its back/shoulders.
