  1. Part 4 boosts cell phone signal and gets XM or Sirius radio signals. You can see it on the top of many modern day cars, resembles a little dorsel fin. Yamato retconned it in when they realized the irony of space fighters not being able to get satellite radio.
  2. That seems like crazy talk at this point. If this is all just smoke and mirrors they're spending a lot of money on the smoke. Who knows what will come out of this but certainly something will... even if it's only a half hour OVA that costs you $20 or is thrown in as an extra on the next RT boxset.
  3. Current pricing on eBay has the Toynami's being pretty well-valued at the moment (uh, for sellers that is). Even the Max MPC has been seen selling above original MSRP. The Max armor, on the other hand, sometimes sells for 5x MSRP! Three Max armors that I've seen have sold for over $110! Even Miriya's armor is selling for over $100 and you can buy her Veritech for only $30. It's pandemonium!
  4. Find any post by SITHLORD and click on his signature. Now drool. Otherwise there is a thread for 1/55 displays and a thread for all Yamato Displays. Both of those have lots of pics of displays to rifle through.
  5. The feet look better! Highlights: 1) Definitely no diecast (correct me if I'm wrong) 2) Appears to be Fast Pack ready (from the backpack in GERWALK) 3) Collectibility will drastically increase by your ability to keep the front antenna from breaking... that thing is a total accident waiting to happen.
  6. When does the Garland get its own thread? How come everyone ignored my comment about the VF-0s feet? Am I wrong or is there something funky with GERWALK mode?
  7. I agree with this and it is spot on what I thought about Vandread when I first watched it. I had a friend in another room ask me "What the hell are you watching" the first time I had it on, my response was "A cartoon with ishtty CG and big-boobied girls." I ended up really liking the show though. Honestly, if I like a show and want more of it I'm really okay with them not making it flashy. I would have much rather had five more episodes of MacrossZero to help develop the story better at the expense of some of its flash.
  8. I thought it looked great but I'm not a guy who needs really flashy anime to keep me happy, I'm more interested in the stories and characters. You know if I still like watching the original Macross I'm not going to sit here and say the new Robotech looks bad...
  9. Okay, my memory is vague here, but doesn't it also seem like Misa warps from the bridge of the SDF-1 onto the Valk's shoulder also? Maybe I was just really confused as to how she ever got on the shoulder in the first place and that's tainting my memory though. Maybe it was all just a mistake on the animators part. They didn't understand that Misa was supposed to be instructing from the bridge so they put her oh the valk shoulder.
  10. Yeah, what Keith said. Still, we're in way legal gray land and HG could push it to some degree if they wanted to. After all, a Macross DERIVED design (meaning not something that was in Macross but appears roughly similar to something in Macross) may or may not get the legal wheels spinning (I would guess probably not). Still, makes way more sense for them to totally steer clear and stick to MOSPEADA designs and leave the door open to selling MOSPEADA II at some point in Japan. What's with the red color on those drawings of the SDF-3? That's just plain funk.
  11. Is there a swivel point around the waist area? I think that'd be schweet.
  12. Okay, at the risk of sounding like I'm not very knowledgable about the VF-0, what's the deal with the gap above the feet in GERWALK mode? Is that how it's supposed to be are just something that's necessary for the toy or am I just being confused by the lighting? Let me know if you guys don't see what i'm talking about...
  13. Ooh, isn't that also the episode that features a full-sized Zent lighting his cigar off a valk's gun? The writing is definitely more brilliant in some episodes than others....
  14. looks like they took a 1/48 VF-1 and beat it with an ugly stick. I'm really eager to start hearing reviews though, I'm optomistic the toy makes up for its ugliness (not its fault of course, I think the VF-0 is just an ugly duck) with some swank gadgetry. For the price it's going for I think it might be able to perform felatio. Okay, just kidding, but it should have some neat little tricks up its tiny-armed sleeves and a good amount of detail that the pics so far don't do justice to.
  15. Cyclone, are you sure about this? I was telling everyone it was just a statue and not even transformable and I had several people refute my claims and tell me that the Beta shown was actually fully transformable (or very close to it). Edit - Depending on price I would buy at least 4. That means Toynami just has to worry about selling the other 59,996. (assuming they made blue, red, green, and shadown ones)
  16. I haven't seen the comics but if I recall, Myk's SDF-3 is similar to the actual SDF-3 but then it gets almost completely destroyed and rebuilt as the super boxy SDF-3.
  17. ball joints in the hips? Huh? I don't feel like transforming mine right now but here's how it looked last time I took a pic: As you can see, doesn't look like any ball-joints are present. I guess it's possible but it's certainly nothing I ever noticed. I hate to say it but the MPC is pretty much superior in every way (i could feel half of MW cringing as I type that). I still would love to see the HCM line completed though. Here's a little tail fin comparo too:
  18. Let's not forget, in the case of Macross this was a children's cartoon. Children have precious short attention spans, a recap could be a big help to them every now-and-then. We shouldn't let our adult brains feel cheated by these episodes or even be annoyed by them. In the Tivo/DVD age they will soon become extinct anyway.
  19. The differences (other than scale) between HCMs and MPCs are rather small. Still, it'd be kinda cool just since they are a different scale.

    1/55 Models?

It seems to me no one ever bothered making 1/55 model kits for Macross items. As I understand things, 1/55 is a pretty wacky scale and not a model industry standard in the least. Seems to me though that, if I had a model company with a Macross license back in the early 80s, it would have been a brilliant move. Obviously the 1/55 toys were a big hit in Japan so building models in the same scale would have been a wet dream for every customizer. What would the down side have been? Would Takatoku feel the models were competing with their toys?
  21. Hey guys, didn't mean to sound catty in my last post. Just pointing out that we have more smoke than fire when it comes to figuring most of this stuff out and lamenting the fact there's not much else to go on. Shadow Chronicles may suck, it may suck because HG can't pull the money together to do something good, it may suck because it's written badly, it may suck for a lot of reasons. Nay-saying now won't reward us with anything more than an "I told you so" later though.
  22. Yes sir
  23. A 1/48 Glaug would be exactly 15" tall edit - just for fun, here's the dimensions of other stuff if done in 1/48, my calcs show a VF-1 at 1/48 measures 11.85" just to give you a baring: VF-11 is 12.5" long, YF-19 is just under 15" YF-21 is 15.75" VF-17 is 12.5" VF-4 is 12.3"
  24. I find the speculation about Harmony Gold's finances on this forum to be pretty humorous. The same thing happens with Toynami. Everybody seems to don their financial caps and decree they know how much it costs to make a series or a toy and then determines there is no way anyone in the Robotech camp is making money. So, being an accountant who actually specializes in these sorts of things (credit risk & profitability), I decided to do some ground-pounding and find out exactly how Harmony Gold's books look. Sadly, it would appear both companies are private (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). Something to consider though, somebody somewhere is definitely loaning Harmony Gold a lot of money and that company knows exactly what HG is worth and they've come to the conclusion that they're a safe bet. Chances are this company/bank/syndication of banks feels HG is a safe bet because all of those DVDs and (often crappy) toys really are making money. Honestly, do you think if HG didn't make money on the crap tons of DVDs they produce they would keep issuing new versions of almost the exact same thing? One new DVD out there would mean one new excuse to create a new boxset.
  25. I would be quite happy if Bandai never released another chunky product again. The charm is wayyyy gone now that Yamato has shown us the true splendor of the 1/48. I own the originals to round out my collection but if a company was going to spend time and money releasing anything going forward I would hope it'd be a significantly improved product... not a reissue of a thorougly outdated product. Now, a Yamato Elint and SuperO in 1/48 scale would tickly my fancy nicely (or simply a VF-1D). What about a jokemachine SuperO and Elint? A Yammie VF-17 would be nice too
