  1. I dunno, it sounds like Arcadia is saying "we're not as big as Yamato was so it's more expensive for us to build things." If they're a smaller shop they probably make fewer units and have higher interest rates across the board on any debt they carry.
  2. Given the price, I think it's very safe to assume this is an entirely new mold. These prices definitely have me missing Yamato.
  3. I think that kit is old and would have nothing in common with Frontier releases but I'm not a model guy.
  4. So who had $400 shipped in our poll? I seem to recall that $250-$300 was the prevailing guess. Oh the innocent days of our youth.
  5. No... again I'd point you to DYRL? People love DYRL? even though it changes huge swaths of the story and throws the notion of 'canon' out the window. I hate the Frontier movies because neither can stand on its own and many of the weaknesses of the show (like the Galaxy subplot) which could have/should have been cleaned up and made far less obtuse due to the plotting necessary in a movie are instead muddled in different ways to still be unsatisfactory. There's also some goofy moments like a surfing MacQuarter but those are more nitpick territory. There approach to the movies just seems conflicted. At points you wonder why they're sticking so close to the TV plot and then at other times things get sort of turned on their heads. At the end of the day, it should have been one movie. They could have released "Flashback 2050" or whatever if they felt they wanted to do another 10 minutes of concert footage. I do agree that the second movie has some cool scenes in it... but that's hardly saying the end product is good. I love some scenes in Macross Zero too.
  6. I've decided to watch G1 again in my spare time (been working on it for a long while) but I'm only in late season 2 at this point so I appreciate the info.
  7. Thank you for posting that. I got the update from BBTS and was wondering what a Vector Sigma was. I'm still wondering but at least now I have a picture.
  8. I guess I would say the movies certainly didn't do any worse at solving all the issues with the Galaxy subplot... sadly, and fairly remarkably, the didn't do it much better.
  9. No worries, I probably should have quoted my prior comments on DYRL? I said previously that DYRL functions very well as a stand alone film but is better with a knowledge of the original show. My argument was that the Frontier movies really don't even function on their own and a knowledge of the original series is essential. I'm just admitting now that while I still think DYRL? does an admirable job of being a good movie without having seen the original show, there was more content in there then I had remembered that referenced events that were totally off screen and not spoken about. Then I did some rambling about DYRL which was kind of irrelevant but since I had just finished watching it I felt like talking about it . I think what still kills me about the Frontier movies is that they could have been one movie and been awesome. Instead it was two movies where they both suck independently and muster up a "okay" if you watch them as one tediously long movie. I'm guessing it was because of budget constraints and the desire to reuse as much animation as possible. They could have made this generation's DYRL? but they didn't.
  10. There was a vendor at the con selling a 1/100 Takatoku VF-1J Hikaru. Does anyone know who that was? I was about to fly across the country so I couldn't make any purchases but I wouldn't mind knowing how much it was going for and if it's still for sale. If you know the info can you shoot me a PM? Thanks.
  11. I just rewatched DYRL on a flight and I can see that there are a few more scenes than I initially recalled that really do help if you've seen the original show. I would still contend that having seen the show is in no way a prerequisite but it does help more than I remembered. For example, Hikaru and Minmay find fish floating inside the engine block. If you hadn't seen the original series that would be pretty bizarre because DYRL doesn't give you any indication under what pretenses the SDF-1 got to Saturn and why it's on a mission to return to Earth. Even as it is it's a little bizarre since that stuff would probably all be rotting since, unlike the show, it wasn't hauled in from space. I would also add that the way everyone gets captured seems pretty forced. WTF is Misa doing with Minmay's brother in some oddball shuttle craft? If they knew Hikaru was out there wouldn't they just radio him and be like "Get your b*tch a*s to the brig right now"? On a side note, I failed to absorb that there's a cameo of the VF-1D in DYRL. It's scrap sitting in front of the Prometheus. Still a great movie although you could construe Minmay's freak-out as leading to the death of millions. Had she just hung out near the bridge waiting for the big show and not pursued Hikaru until after the battle then Boldoza probably wouldn't have gone genocidal and the Meltrans might have capitulated. Ah well, it all worked out in the end (except for the millions that didn't make it to the end).
  12. Battroid? You mean soldier! Respect the not-blatant-rip-off name changes
  13. Most I spent was $500 cash. In terms of effort, I'd say using Japanese proxy services to buy Japanese lot auctions back in the day... which isn't a lot of effort. I've done local trips to buy/sale/trade in person too.
  14. I was only able to swing by for about a half hour but the Con looked great. I didn't expect to see my first Lansay Tread (two no less) in person at an MW conference. All the displays were amazing. The 1/2000 SDF-1 and the 1/72 Monster models were also rare treats to see. If I had some more time and if I weren't immediately flying across the country I would have been very tempted to buy something at the shops; the vendor section was really cool. I always dreamed of going somewhere that had tons of Macross stuff for sale and there it was. Many of the girls cosplaying were also very impressive. It's hard for me to schedule my life a week ahead but I'd definitely try to make another con and this time actually stay for a while.
  15. Are there going to be tickets at the door? I was waiting for my wife to decide if she wanted to go before I bought tickets and she just hopped on FB to make the purchase and tells me tickets are no longer for sale.
  16. Incorrect tense, that line is dead. We won't be getting a cheap VF-11, let alone a cheap VF-11MAXL
  17. Oh man, all this vendor talk makes me wish I could get to the con a little earlier in the day.
  18. This is exactly why we need a smaller scale line of valkyries. I don't want to spend $200 on that thing. You might be able to convince me to spend $79.99 on one though.
  19. I think Gakken doesn't like UM and doesn't like the toy so he's seeing the glass half empty. The gripes about scale seem silly since we've all survived every other Transformers line EVER and it's not far off any way.
  20. So while my wife was using the computer and I was talking to her I picked up my YF-25 Prophecy toy and transformed it to GERWALK mode. She turned around at one point and I said "Look, it was an airplane, now it's half airplane, half robot." She frowned, "GERCOCK mode looks so stupid." I was actually a little proud of her for almost knowing the term and of course laughed pretty hard about the way she did butcher it.
  21. Awesome. BAPE, EVA, and UM Toy version... great to see. Maybe I can skip hunting down an exorbitant priced legit BAPE now
  22. Arrow and Flash will have crossovers and i think those are the better shows (though ive only seen ine episode of each show).
