lol, perish the thought. RT.com is a commercial website, not a place for frank discussions. I can't fault the staff there for removing people who criticize the company's actions, however legitimate those criticisms may be. If I were to walk inside of Walmart and begin informing other customers of Walmart's questionable business practices, the staff would have every right to remove me from the premises. It's in a company's best interest to maintain a pleasant atmosphere for its general patrons. Though, I wish RT.com would be honest about their policies; it'd make life easier for everyone involved. RT.com tries portray itself as a place welcome to open and honest discussions, yet company critics are treated as persona non grata. Either inform visitors that strong criticisms against Harmony Gold and its staff will not be tolerated, or allow a laissez-faire environment. You can't have it both ways. Going back to the Walmart example, Walmart would have no problem explaining that company critics are not welcome on their premises. But for some reason, RT.com insists on maintaining this feeble charade of impartiality.

I've been refraining from posting anything else until Creavision got their act together, what with all of those contradictory statements concerning Big West and Harmony Gold. But it finally looks like the dust has settled and the project has been renamed from Robotech: Valkyrie Project to Proyecto Valkiria. The Proyecto Valkiria Facebook page has something interesting (at least to me) to say: After reading this message, it's clear to me that Harmony Gold must've sent the order to cease-and-desist, not Big West. If Big West did send out the C&D, then Robotech: Valkyrie Project could have continued on, sans any references to SDF Macross. The title could have remained unchanged, the VF-1's could have been replaced with Alphas, and the Zentraedi mecha replaced with Invid mecha. But, according to their statement, Creavision can't use any elements from the Robotech universe. Not even material that's completely independent of SDF Macross, such as the Invid. Moreover, Creavision can't even use the name Robotech in their title anymore. These are all components that Big West has absolutely no jurisdiction over, so Big West could not have sent the C&D. The only companies that currently have any film rights to Robotech are Harmony Gold and Warner Bros. Since Creavision never mentioned Warner Bros., I'm excluding them from this analysis. So, that leaves only one party who could've been responsible for the C&D: Harmony Gold.

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
TheLoneWolf replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
The only two Macross videos that Harmony Gold doesn't block are Macross Plus and Macross II. In fact, Manga Entertainment still actively markets the two videos here in the US. My guess is that that italian Blu-ray is just an upscale. I don't see any mention of it being a remaster, just that it's in high-definition. They probably didn't think it was worth the money to license Bandai's new remaster and just upscaled their existing film.- 516 replies

I should've clarified that Cesar Turturro and Creavision shouldn't be subject to any fines or legal charges, so long as they fully comply with the cease and desist order. They did everything by the book and in good faith; it was Harmony Gold who probably screwed up. I just feel really bad for Creavsion because they clearly spent a lot of time and money on this project, only to be forced to watch the remainder of it languish on the shelf. Someone mentioned that perhaps Creavision could quietly leak the rest of the footage. But then Creavision would be in violation of the cease and desist, and subject to whatever penalties argentinian law allows. Plus, if they have any aspirations of making it in Hollywood, they probably don't want to be known as a group who discounts intellectual property. Hollywood's seems to be overprotective with IP's these days.

Eh, I highly doubt Harmony Gold sent that cease and desist out of petty jealousy. They need any new material like a man dying of thirst needs water. My guess is that someone at Warner Bros. saw these videos and threatened Harmony Gold with a breach of contract. Remember, Warner Bros. paid for the exclusive right to make a Robotech movie(s), and here goes Harmony Gold permitting Creavision to make excellent fan films for free. HG probably thought Creavision's project wouldn't amount to anything significant, so there'd be no harm in giving them a non-profit license. Unfortunately for Creavision, HG was wrong; and now Creavision is going to have to suffer for it.

Anyways, having read the books, I still found the movie very enjoyable. Moreso than An Unexpected Journey. I just don't look at it as "The Hobbit" at all; rather, I view it as "LOTR: Episode 0."

Ugh, that's just not a very practical, or even aesthetically pleasing, design. The hands are redundant since those giant intakes are going to get in the way of it grabbing anything. And I don't know how the legs in fighter mode are supposed to move all the way over to the nosecone in battloid mode. There's a fair bit of anime magic involved in the old Macross designs, but this one takes the cake. And like the others said, I'm not a fan of the round leg design. The upper body consists mostly of hard edges and angles, then the legs get all bulbous. Good thing this is only a draft, it'll need more work.

Robotech x Voltron crossover... what the...I don't even...
TheLoneWolf replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I wouldn't read anything into it, it's probably just an innocent mistake. Bob Koplar probably wasn't aware of Harmony Gold's licensing limitations. -
Since Mospeada is owned by Tatsunoko, I think there's a chance that this set could eventually be released in the US. Although, that probably wouldn't happen for a long time, since Harmony Gold and A&E/Lions Gate would have to re-release Mospeada on DVD three or four more times before moving onto Blu ray.

Yeah, it's been auto-updating for a while now. Since 2011 I think.

Yeah, they do. The problem is that the added weight throws off the alignment in fighter. On top of that, since the arms have magnets in them, the arms will splay outwards towards the metal legs in fighter mode, instead of tucking in together. Maybe this was Toynami's way of "locking" the arms to the legs in fighter mode, unfortunately it just looks like a mess when executed.
-
Nice work! Battloid mode definitely looks better now. It's a good thing you worked on the Rick MPC and not the others, because they've got way more problems thanks to their die-cast metal legs.

Thanks again for all your hard work. We're lucky to have a translator who's intimately familiar with the source material that he's is translating.

SDCC 2013 Hasbro Exclusives: Jetfire Skystriker

SDCC 2013 Hasbro Exclusives: Jetfire Skystriker
TheLoneWolf replied to Chet's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If Hasbro created Jetfire's design, then why did they leave the UN Spacy logo on Jetfire's wing? I confess, I don't have any concrete proof either as to who created Jetfire's color scheme. But to me, the signs point to Matsushiro. Only the toy's actual manufacturer, Matsushiro, would know what kinds of color changes could be made to the toy without incurring too much more overhead. My guess is that Hasbro told Matsushiro, "Hey, we've got this new guy, Skyfire, who's red and white. Please make your VF-1 red and white too, wherever technically possible." After Matsushiro implemented the new color scheme, they would've had to send it to Tatsunoko for licensor approval (hence the Tatsunoko stickers). Next stop, US toy shelves. That would be absolutely hilarious. Have you got any pics of that bio card?- 158 replies

SDCC 2013 Hasbro Exclusives: Jetfire Skystriker

lol! Good find, but was that guy released outside of Japan? Tatsunoko and Harmony Gold have no jurisdiction in Japan. Sorry, I don't follow.- 158 replies

SDCC 2013 Hasbro Exclusives: Jetfire Skystriker
TheLoneWolf replied to Chet's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
This is a very strange and questionable move by Harmony Gold. I say "strange" because they're attempting to file an injuction against a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive toy. Since Comic-Con 2013 is over, filing an injuction is moot as the toys have already been sold. That is, unless Hasbro has announced that they're going to continue to sell Jetfire beyond SDCC? Do any TF fans know for sure? Second, I think it's questionable because Hasbro has altered the white/red/black color scheme enough so that it only bears a passing resemblance to the original Jetfire toy. There's no mathematical formula to determine how much copying is allowed before it can be determined that a design has been infringed. It usually boils down to this: would a layman confuse the two products? Unless the design is a spitting image of the original, you're just rolling the dice. Further complicating Harmony Gold's case is that the original G.I. Joe Skystriker XP-14F toy also bore a similar white/red/black color scheme. The only two potential snags I see for Hasbro are the predominantly red boosters and the optional leg stickers. Though, it's important to remember that the boosters were an optional configuration on the original Jetfire. He could also be displayed in plain fighter mode. And the leg stickers are entirely optional on both toys, so I won't give that one too much weight either. As for both planes' F-14 likeness, that's not copyrightable design. I don't see any logic behind Harmony Gold's decision making. The San Diego Comic-Con is over. Their trade dress argument is iffy at best. And Hasbro has way more money to spend on attorneys than Harmony Gold does. Just doesn't add up.- 158 replies

Robotech x Voltron crossover... what the...I don't even...
TheLoneWolf replied to Tochiro's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
If Tommy Yune's going to be writing this, I wonder which corny clichés he'll use this time. Who wants to take a bet that the main villian will end up mutating into a giant monster in the last issue? -
Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
TheLoneWolf replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
Bingo! Someone give that man a gold star. Budgets and deadlines are the two factors that galvanize every production. My guess is that as this project was nearing its completion, someone at Bandai Visual realized that they still had a small amount of money left in their budget and decided to squeeze in some last-minute English subtitles. Could they have used a better translator? Sure. But with such short notice and a small amount of money, they probably had to accept whatever translator they could get. If this set manages to sell better than previous Macross Blu Ray sets, then whoever inserted these subtitles might be able to convince Bandai to budget in English subtitles from the get go, resulting in better quality subtitles.- 516 replies
