  1. Yeah, a new ending was commissioned so that the Robotech movie could have a "proper" ending. It looks different because it was not animated by the original staff, in fact up until recently Ishiguro didn't even know it existed.
  2. It's an inconsistency that shows they're not aiming to please nitpicky super fans who will probably go and see the movie anyways. It's a different movie made by different people. You should be worrying about if the movie is actually good, not some bizarre tirade about how not including one barely-seen piece of equipment means it's a "lazy" film production.
  3. Although I'm not crazy about the metallic colors, it does look considerably better than the unpainted original. To the point where I might like to actually pick one up, now.
  4. Yeah, the haircolor really ruins everything doesn't it.
  5. Her personal bike in the first episode is red, as seen in the opening montage when she's polishing it and then later when she gets a hamburger and runs into Leon. The blue bike she steals from a guy after wrecking the car with the boomer in it.
  6. Sony did a limited showing in New York, but I'm not sure if that's evidence they'll do a full release in the US or if it was just necessary for them to do so they could submit it to the Academy Awards. A friend of mine attended the showing and reviewed it here: http://www.colonydrop.com/index.php/2008/1...-the-end?blog=1
  7. Are posts like that really necessary? If you don't have something to contribute, why bump a discussion thread?
  8. A true translation of what is said? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're one of the guys who like "translations" like this (image mildly NSFW) or think that words like kisama should be left in untranslated. Outside of subtitle tracks that use dub scripts, I'd like to see some examples of subtitles being "manipulated" to please US tastes. The truth is fansubs are often painfully unprofessional, usually because there's such a heavy focus on getting out a release ASAP for bragging rights (keep in mind that 95% of fansubbing is about bragging rights, or else you wouldn't have five different groups subtitling the same popular series). There's also tons of translation errors, usually resulting from rushed translators or translators translating from Japanese into Chinese and then into english. Throw in more BS like the fansub groups' name added to the title screens of anime, and the fansub staff's names placed on the credits instead of translations of the actual staff and what you get is a bunch of unprofessional cr*p. Remember, you get what you pay for.
  9. How short and snippy can we make each each consecutive reply?
  10. That's probably a sure thing. Assuming the film is actually going to be released in the US, I can't think of any other company that has the financial ability right now to release it.
  11. Uh, no. You're just heaping on a series for doing something that plenty of other anime series do as a cost-cutting measure.
  12. I made the Star Wars comparison because Lucas started a trend of going back and messing with films that were perfectly fine and adding unnecessary stuff to them just for the sake of change. That's exactly what GiTS 2.0 is... a bunch of unnecessary changes to an already great film. It's a waste of money and an insult to fans. Yeah, you're completely off on that assumption but nice try.
  13. Another depressingly terrible season. I'll watch a few episodes of Ride Back and Vipers' Creed, but I'm guessing they'll both disappoint. Hetalia Axis Powers sounds goofy, but I'm not sure if it'll actually be interesting. The rest... cr*p.
  14. A lot of shows do that. It's called not having enough money to animate in-betweens.
  15. That's exactly the item I was talking about.
  16. In a store here in Tokyo I recently came across a bunch of old Macross kites, that looked like they were released around the same time as the original TV series. I didn't get too much of a look at them as I was with somebody who wasn't too interested in the nerd stuff, so I can't say much about them aside that they were plastic kites with VF-1's and Destroids on them. Couldn't find anything on them on the main MW site or google, although I could have sworn I've seen them mentioned somewhere before. Anyone have any info, or a rough estimate on what they're worth (if anything)?
  17. I really want to know what you guys are smoking... it looks cheap as hell. Whereas GiTS did a good job of mixing CG and cells (by using CG mostly for computer displays and such), the new 3D segments stand out because they look totally different than the rest of the film. For those that haven't seen it, the only redone segments are the opening scene where Matoko jumps off the building and the scene where she's swimming, so it's clear they didn't want to do much more than just model her and some backgrounds. They also redid all of the helicopters in 3D... but no other vehicles. The whole effort makes no sense, as the added CG effects to the cell scenes look terrible, the 3D doesn't mesh and the whole thing just reeks of messing around with something that didn't need to be fixed. It's far worse than something like the Star Wars Special Editions, where you could kind of justify by saying they didn't ave the technology back then or it didn't look as good... But truth is, GiTS looks better than just about any other modern anime film, and it sure as hell didn't need a bunch of extra CG cr*p to "modernize" it.
  18. I've been told Ishiguro mentions the TV thing in his interview with AWO, but I can't stomach podcasts so I never checked it out.
  19. It looks like a videogame intro and is totally inconsistent with the rest of the look of the movie. Why they added it I have no idea.
  20. That's because you exist in your own delusional world.
  21. Guessing that he means this: http://www.new-un-spacy.com/sdfmacross/queadluun-rau.htm I believe it's referred to as a Quadrono in Robotech.
  22. Also, the recently released Sky Crawlers movie (review of it here: http://www.colonydrop.com/index.php/2008/1...the-end?blog=1)
  23. And again, it comes down to games. The 360 has the best selection and the same cross-platform titles, so it's worth it to people to go through the hassle of the RROD. Really, it just comes down to the games. I used to be a rabid MS hater, but the original Xbox delivered the goods with multiplayer and online so I sucked it up and bought one. Same thing happened to me with Sega and the Dreamcast (later I went back and discovered how awesome the Saturn was). It has the games I want to play so I'll deal with it, since it doesn't actually cost me much. As for trying to teach MS a lesson about releasing terrible products... I sure hope you aren't writing on a Windows machine. EDIT: And by the same token, why should I reward Nintendo for releasing a slightly upgraded Gamecube or Sony for refusing to come up with a new controller design to replace the archaic one they're using on a system that still doesn't have many games to show for it?
