The complexity is fun for some people though: it's like a puzzle that needs solving. -
Macross Frontier News Thread *Read 1st post*

Konig monster! Great now people can't say it shouldn't have been made into a toy because it's not going to be as recognised as much. Good move. I still have my yamato konig monster stuck in the same pose for 1 year. Hopefully the monster weapons can penetrate bug armor.. or humans are doomed (that was the only thing that hurt the afos in zero wasn't it?) -
SDF: Macross vs Macross Franchise

Same here: M+ was one of the high points of macross. I love that it's like top gun with valks. Japan not liking it doesn't make it crap. -
Yamato GN-U Non-transforming Macross Action Figures
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Graham's topic in Toys
I might buy some. But there is so much stuff coming out all at once. To the guy that thinks non-valk toys are not going to sell: it may depend if you are a completist collector. If the toys are cheap enough, buying the whole set might just be fun for a guy who just wants everything. (like a collectors of cards, or someone who buys G1 toys to feel 'complete') These were obviously designed to look like the 'character' in anime when sometimes the proportions of the battroid are deformed a little bit to look more appealing in that mode. (ie the big hands, the chunky more-muscular shape, the stubbier aircraft parts etc) A good example of this is sometimes you might see "Popeye the sailor man" forearms in SDF:M to make it look 'tough', (I've seen some scenes in SDF:M where in battroid mode the VF-1 looks just like a bandai chunky munkey) and a nose that is squashed so that the fine delicate features like that don't poke out all over the place. CG robots don't bend and deform as much as hand drawn objects though. Sometimes transforming toys sacrifice the proportion of the "character" when the toy is in robot mode. (masterpiece megatron's skinny legs for example) This is where I can see the appeal for the posable action figure over the transforming toy. Some people might identify better with the character in their robot form than the vehicle they transform into. -
If only there were a way to combine the detail of the bigger scale with the PT of the CMs?
-
Looks very good. So these aren't perfect transforming like the little CMs? I thought the Ride armor wasn't a PT vehicle in the show anyway though right? I will probably get the CMs ones because I want to hold them in my hand.

This target was really giant like really really big. And it didn't move much if at all. I'm going to rewatch that bit where alto shoots it. It's just not the same as amuro ray reading a robot manual and learning how to use it instantly. In SDF:M hikaru shot a pod that was just standing there possibly due to it not even noticing hikaru. (to me it looks like it was a free hit. That's a little bit different to when the target knows you are there and is already moving around) Face it we'll never get a show like macross plus with old guys because the US fan isn't as important. TV series is bound to be about teens with skills who grow up and mature. Just accept that in the future teenagers are a hell of a lot more mature than the teens of today and were forced to grow up quicker. That's how I'm going to explain it. Max shouldn't be able to be better than roy but he just is ok? He just IS because he is a genius. It's skill, better education, and sharper reflexes along with being trained earlier in life ....maybe. Like John Conner from the terminator universe. If it helps: Roy never got to beat his Sempai in macross zero. So the old guy is still cooler than his younger brother/student in macross.

I hope they do. I would rather get them with the armor+fold booster than seperate. But I can see why people don't like being forced into buying the booster if they don't care much for it.

I wish they'd do the black one. Who else isn't getting it? I might get it if it means more mospeada. I remember buying Yamato Qrau (with CMS miria figure) and people thought it was expensive because it didn't transform or have tiny moving parts. That was because I was happy to see a mecha like that done which wasn't just a popular VF. I hope more mospeada Legios toys come out in a few years. We've all wanted a good durable toy, but be honest, that is pretty expensive even if you are fan don't you think? In a way it's like with those atler sai bubble gum crisis figures: was willing to get one but at the time I had the yamatos competing for attention. May have bought one if it was the only thing around and there were no other distractions. So only Stick is the non-limited edition one then? -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Just pretend you want them then. That way they might include them. I always thought having a gap there was bad visually for robot mode. (not enough to stop me from buying one but it makes enough of a difference to be worth mentioning) Just as some of you guys have issues with plane modes having stubby noses even though these are planes designed for space combat anyway and chubby FAST packs that spoil the sleek look on top of it. If you don't like the covers then you at least have a choice not to put them on right? -
Maybe in the future they will have people in powered armor and the game will be more violent like in that game Speedball? Looks pretty cool.

That's what I was thinking. Hopefully they don't interpret poor sales of the toy to lack of desire to want mospeada mecha though. I love the legios. I think the best thing is to wait for reviews first. See all the weaknesses and problems and then decide. -
SDF: Macross vs Macross Franchise
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to KingNor's topic in Movies and TV Series
We need a sidestory with zentradi rogues (using various stolen destroid, old-school VF, variable glaug and zentradi powered armor) who are like the gato character in gundam 0083. Let SK do the mecha design, and have everything else handled by others. Have them infiltrate a UNG bioweapon lab where the bugs being experimented upon escape the lab, and one by one kill all the scientists and zentradi rogues who freed them. The survivor must use various Robots vs monsters and escape the planet. (but they are cut off from support outside and can't be rescued until a few days time) Macross has its scary monster movie with violent and realistic horror. Patlabor WXII-style. Only the singing from a recording will make the monster get distracted enough for the lone survivor to get out of there. But we sense that the monster is part human and feel sorry for it. (perhaps it was hikaru inside the monster before it was mutated into this horrible thing? That would be the hint as to what happened to hikaru, misa, and minmay and would stop people asking about what happened to hikaru misa and minmay. The bug got to them and the scientists couldn't reverse the disease. The truth will never be known.) -
But you might get to see a real minmay naked shower scene.
-
26 eps. Who knows, maybe it will get extended due to popularity though? The location to find that information is...... macrossworld.com (the search engine isn't that great though. Best to use google instead ) Haven't seen that. What happens in it? The hammerheads were just sleepy or something. Max beat milia and look how many years of combat she had over him?
-
Because as mentioned the older generation died in the un wars. In the newer series, it's so the audience can relate to the characters better. Just as in every american kids cartoon you have a mascot or annoying talking animal who provides the slapstick humour so little kids can laugh while watching the show. You know that. Thundercats had snarf He-man had orco macross 7 had gubaba In the animated transformers movie you had Grimlock playing the annoying cute pet. (no longer the scary berserker beast warrior that goes out of control like a monster in earlier episodes who almost kills prime) This is why I think a sidestory involving the destroids would be good. But the destroids are obsolete. The last sighting (of them being useful) in a new macross show was in macross zero when they had the monster with claws and the octos and cheyenne.

1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
And please don't take that as a complaint/bash of the 1/60 if it doesn't have it there, just a suggestion/wish in order to make it more good than it already is. I just think that because it's not part of the GBP but a feature of the valkyrie as standard, that so too should the toy have this as standard on naked valks. -
The Nintendo Wii Thread!!
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Apollo Leader's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Have you seen this: I think this is a cool idea for future console to implement (but combined with the HD graphics and oblivion sized worlds we all want from rpgs) when the usage of motion tracking is more common. Basically the guy in the video demonstrates a VR head tracking example and shows how the screen can act like a picture plane as if looking out of a window. This is the kind of thing I want to see in an oblivion style game only with the usage of the motion sensing with your hands added to it. If this has already been posted nevermind. (haven't read up to the current page) -
Transformers: Animated

The sith were hiding though so it makes them rare in the PT. Same with the cons in TFA. They are like the rogue zentradi and supervision army Female autobots were rare in G1. They were thought to be extinct. So maybe it's the decepticons turn to be thought extinct? -
Not if you plant cheap biological weapons that multiply quickly to counter the machines. "Bugs" The earliest computers failing had to do with bugs being caught inside them. The bugs are the key to defeating rogue machines. All sara has to do is sing that song that makes them grow quickly and the drones are doomed. some interesting history: http://www.maxmon.com/1945ad.htm The legendary bugbear may have been why the PC decided on biological weapons. Space monsters are the bugbears of macross. Just as the droids are seen as inferior in star wars to the clone soldiers in prequel trilogy star wars, so the humans and drones are inferior to alien bugs. Note that the bugs appear to be intelligent? It reminds me of a scene in starwars where the mercenary is commenting on the differences between intelligence and wisdom. There are just some things about the bug that although they look mechanical like robots, they show wisdom like a human or some being controlling it. Not programmed and preset to behave in a certain way as if processing the data fed to it like the way a computer program would respond. In star wars the Droids assume that information given to it is never false. Humans know better and question that information put into the databanks. These bugs like a living being, have wisdom to know the weaknesses of the drone, (as if having fought them before) while the inhuman speed that current human tech can barely match. (like the drones that are allowed to fly a high speed) They are more like the best of both worlds. Not showing the weakness of a drone which isn't wise, or the physical limits of a human which is forced to use a limiter while flying. I get the feeling the bugs are going to be a combination of the bioroid things from SC, and the inbit in mospeada. bioroids were people inside an armor forced to live in it like it was their own skin. (explaining the wisdom that comes from experienced fighting) Inbit were tough on the outside, but with blood, like an armored beetle. The advantage of these is it allows them to act naturally, but be independent of repairs from a machine. If a 'factory' gets blown up, like with the zentradi who couldn't repair or build, that can cripple the fighting power of the enemy. But these things are part biological, making them independent of the need for something like that. Order of goodness: PC (girl was able to make plants grow quick) > Monsters (no reliance on factories) > humans (can repair broken things) > zentradi (can't repair) > drones (fast but not able to think for itself) We all love machines but if the machines can't think for themselves and you can wipe out the factories they need to be built, and reprogram them, they can be enslaved and turned against themselves.

Honestly if I had a $ for every time someone assumes the kid is an instant wiz just because he shot a gun and killed something, I'd be able to afford the CMs Legios + Tread. I mean it can't be that hard to just fire the gun at a target? He didn't even have to fly the damn plane and already people are judging him as being too smart for his age. Keep in mind too that, max was really young and inexperienced yet kicked hikaru's ass in terms of things killed. Where does that skill come from? They had prior training beforehand, or they understand machines at an early age because their dad or whatever gave them a headstart. It's not that uncommon is it? But I do see older pilots being discriminated against generally. It's like the makers of the show blame wars on the adults and want them to seem evil compared to the younger pilots. (how many times in gundam is it the parents being portrayed as irresponsible and weak for buckling under pressure to "the man" and causing the teen to hate them?) This is possible due to how anime is aimed at teens. Maybe the adults in mecha shows are like the "muggles" in harry potter books? The "wizards" are those who pioneer, bring change, transform things, and the doubters are the ones stuck to the real world so they are not allowed to perform unbelievable feats in the anime?

I actually don't mind high vis schemes from the POV that robots stand out better in them for show off reasons. (or to show they are special enough to be allowed to mod the thing) If they are aces, then they deserve the attention so all the crap pilot can clearly see and recognise them. But for cannon fodder mecha, the plain colours are appealing because they can't afford to show off like the super aces can and need to remain hidden. In the world of anime robot shows, once you get to a certain level of skill, hiding isn't important. See milia in DYRL single handedly take out the male zentradi like they were nothing. When you get to her level of skill you want to actually attract strong fighters to you for a fun challenge to prevent you from getting bored. (make them think you are an easy target and then take them out quicker, rather than have the enemies run away from you and you have to chase them individually, which would take longer.) So in a way, it makes sense if that's the goal of painting it brightly. "Look at me, I challenge you to attack me so I can kick your ass in front of everyone and get it over with quickly." -
But you said that these toys were designed with two-seaters in mind somewhere on the boards. Why not just get rid of them if you know the two seaters are coming? Will yamato not want to release them due to the perceived lack of popularity for them or something? *crosses fingers they at least make the 1D*

To be fair though, in gundam newtypes are special people with psychic powers. If you were psychic and could predict your enemies every move before they did it you would have an unfair advantage and seem more "skillful" and "experienced" than the older guy who trained his whole life to respond/react quickly. In macross the pilot (hikaru) was already in the flying circus. I don't see how this new character is much different to hikaru to be honest. Especially how they have special training schools for young people. No way is it on the scale of gundam "takes one day to read the manual on how to ride a robot and learns instantly" that you see all the time. Give it a chance.
