  1. Yeah but the drone was partly "possessed" by myung's personality. Myung is partly to blame for making sharon fall in love with Dyson and Guld since it was born from her mind, as she was the one who was needed to "feed it" the emotions. (just a piece of meat who becames obsolete after the bioneural chip was brought in and she was told she would appear for appearances only) So yeah emotions have their ups and downs. I think the ghosts limits are they can't create. This is why humans will outperform machines because we take in all kinds of information that might seem completely useless to a machine but that is relevent to us. Humans adjust to a thinking opponent and can 'read'/predict what they might do better than a machine would. It's why playing against a bot in a FPS is never going to be as good as a real person. The fact that we make mistakes and can gradually learn from mistakes to become better through experience and come up with new exploits, is why I think pilots will always be needed. We all have unique ways of processing the information and interpreting it and then coming up with a new way of doing something. Machines are hardcoded to process some information in a specific manner and follow a set path, ignoring anything going on beyond their set program. If you can lure a machine into say a dark area where it has no information about the inside of that place, and have it fall into some ambush, that makes it less smart than a human who might be aware of what the opposing pilot is trying to do by leading him into an area that may give him the advantage. But robots don't think of things like that since they will ignore information that seems useless and irrelevant to them that a human might not think is irrelevant but gain him a advantage. But the money saved using them makes a lot of sense. Maybe one day we will have especially made-terminator killers (like the character in the megaman games or the guy in blade runner) who hunt the rogue ones that have been somehow tampered with or hacked by the enemy, whose job is to take down the out of control drone? How will a human pilot ever fight a rogue robot that can fly faster than the human? You would need drone-killing drones. Machines killing machines. (like the giants programmed to fight each other in DYRL on behalf of the two rival PC sexes) I do like the idea of the variable drone though: that would be like the mobile doll from gundam. heh Put some fold boosters on them and set them on a suicide kamikaze mission so pilots like max don't have to get so close to the dangerous area. The only thing that could beat them would be the bugs with the jamming devices, and the speed they've been given using the magical red paint that makes them travel faster.
  2. Graham might be able to pass on all the beefs people have, but they would be wise to check once in a while imo. For example the megazone 23 replacement shoulder: people find out about that stuff on this board, and when the shoulders break: the complaints will appear here. This is free feedback about what needs to be fixed so they can keep improving. Same thing with toynami vf-1 1/100 breakages of the stands. When these broke, people were pissed enough to want to post about it. Again this offers a chance to quickly improve on later releases until there is no issues. In short: We are the guinea pigs. They can benefit from complaints/early issues by spying. But really: wallets/your money are more important guages of whether things are going to get made. Unless people commit to buying, it's going to be interpreted as lack of interest and then nobody will take the risk. (so you see vf-1 redone all the time and nothing else)
  3. To make it clear: I support the remake for SDF:M, but only so much as to fix mistakes and improve frames. Not add things that were never there which is what the other people fear. (gearge lucas style tampering with scenes: "greedo shooting first" type stuff, which is going to wreck the original's telling of the story) But in instance like Predator/Aliens, the fact they were so good for their time and stand up well today would only destroy what makes them impressive. (from historical view if you were to go back and compare it with another movie for example) SDF:M though, will always be criticised for not being worth watching for those who feel the old age plus the animation in some eps is a real turnoff so they won't watch the whole thing. (not so with DYRL or plus) Story: don't remake or retell or tamper with it. visual: I support a redo of the entire thing (for consistancy reasons so old bits don't stick out) or just redo the bad eps. audio: leave this alone. I don't mind old audio. And for those asking "since when has anyone ever gone back and added frames?" Well wasn't the macross plus movie edition supposed to have newer things put in it? Apart from the obvious changes, there really isn't that much difference in how the OVA version and Movie version look to me, and the old ova footage is consistant with new movie footage. Just do the same here with SDF:M if possible. (just don't add cg objects in the background like lucas, change the telling of the story, or put new things that weren't there) If all goes well: people will buy the HDDVD/BLuray boxset and be treated to eureka 7 smooth animation. (which hopefully is consistant from episode to episode and has no colour mistakes, or non-canon paintscheme in it )
  4. I had a long argument a long time ago with this guy who insisted the head was where the pilot sat. I just had to keep explaining that the scene where hikaru pops up from the head in the VF-1D has a chair that elevated. It's not him INSIDE the damn head. Then he had to admit "yeah ok it's the chest." This was regardless of whether you had seen lineart. It just isn't logical to assume that is where the pilot sits, since the britai fight exposes the insides for all to see when he rips the chest plate off. (which is why I still love the vf-1 more than the vf-0 because of how the pilot escapes/ejects in battroid mode compared with the vf-0)
  5. Well they had to let basara be the star at the time because the vf-19 fire valk was just more popular. Not a limit of the special fx crew but a money making reason to promote firebomber through product placement within the movie. (ie like the mention of "Ebay" so many times in the transformers movie) Everything is so comercialised in the future.
  6. Yeah I don't really buy that line of reasoning that "if you care about privacy, you must have something to hide. Eh? So now you must be a terrorist" I counter that with: Well if you are not guilty of anything and there is no reason to suspect, why the loss of the privacy? A good anime example of this is Zeta Gundam. Although the Feddies (who represent the americans) are the good guys from the One Year War and the Zeon (nazis) were the bad guys (from the one year war), it was the annoying Titans (who didn't care about the rules) whose abuses of their position that the public are worried about. Once they get drunk on their own newly granted powers, and turn it against the people who created them, that is no longer a free people. It's as bad as the zeon dictatorship which rules by fear, people who fear its own government. (things weren't always like that though as we find out later in gundam 0079 and see char getting sweet revenge) Watch gundam, and then zeta gundam. The cruel Titan's were formed after the events of gundam 0083 when 1 patriotic zeon was able to outsmart the federation and this led to the forming of the titans. (specialise in hunting down Anival Gato-like terrorists due to the events seen in Gundam 0083 where he stole the nuked-equiped gundam) What results is the true good guys later had to seperate themselves from the bad guys within their own side because of this abuse of power on innocent people who just want peace. The only way to ensure the freedoms of innocent people are protected is when there are proper balances and checks (the rules were there for a reason and necessary) so people don't have to live in fear of their own land becoming like a new version of a zeon nazi style government. (where any kind of protest or dissent leads to killing off anyone who doesn't agree with the popular views) Those freedoms (to disagree, to speak freely, so long as no law is broken and no harm is done) were what actually seperates the good guy (feddies) from the bad guy. (zeon)
  7. She could even be a robot with holographic stuff on top of it for all we know. Or maybe even basara with a holographic girl image on top of him. You saw how good the costumes were in the DYRL "war documentary" movie when the actors looked almost identical to the real people.
  8. Joints have to be strong and clicky to support weight. It shouldn't rely on a stand to hold it up.
  9. Maybe if everyone put: "Yamato, include side parts as standard to cover the gap on the new vf-1 1/60 valkyries" in their sigs. hehe
  10. If they do tv series valks I wonder if they will have bubble hands? Maybe even chuck in a hikaru figure standing upon the shoulder of the vf-1d looking down. So in battroid mode you have him in a "WTF?! it's a robot!" expression. I dunno, the "cola kid" would be pretty good to have too. Haha.
  11. Looks very nice. Can't wait for the 2 seaters! Looks like the poll that was held to remake the 1/60 has paid off.. Only thing is it needs GBP side parts as standard: come on yamato.... You know Robot mode is what people will pose this toy in.
  12. Does sue graham have all the fixes though. Is it like what the ben MPC vf-1 was to the other earlier VF-1 MPC? (ie improved)
  13. The zentradi as an alien race also must think that anything not of war is "shocking". But that doesn't mean "bad" post-SW I when the mind control wore off. So the girls song doesn't mean the food is evil/bad/disgusting.
  14. Huh? But the side parts are part of the valkyrie not a special thing that is part of the GBP or FAST pack in the show: If these things are just miniturised 1/48 with improvements, I think the one thing needed is that extra piece that came with the gbp to be the standard piece you can put on the valk to complete it. I'm going to be posing this in battroid mode. I want my VF-1D toy to be just like the pic above. This way we don't have to worry about recasters and getting the things colour matched since it comes with the toy.
  15. Yeah but these new 1/60s are better in *battroid mode it seems. Yamato must have listened to all the chicken hand critics. Now I wonder if the side parts come as standard or if they will leave a big gap in the robots body? *don't forget the fake splitting apart of the things in the feet. (maybe one day yamato will go back to 1/48 and release 1/48 vf-1 with all the 1/60 features that fixed the problems of the first 1/48 releases of vf-1?) That way you get all the little details of the fast packs as well as the features from the new 1/60.. People will sell all the new 1/60 and old 1/48 to buy the new 1/48.
  16. What about Jetfire? Ah memories... kids were easy to please back then.
  17. I want a good deal too. If I blow it on this I will have to postpone buying my yf-21 though. Will they do the black LegiosS?
  18. Saw the dinobot episode. Grim...-lock grim...-lock grim...-lock Grimlock wasn't really dumb in g1 though. He just sounded dumb because of the damaged speech which made him sound primitive like a caveman. Hopefully they let him be more "strategic" in this toon where they show him leading the team of dinobots rather than as a bunch of individual attackers doing their own thing separately. Bulkhead already fills the the dumb tough guy role. (ie like what ironhide was for the car robots in g1 but in this case with grimlock style clumsiness and seeming-unintelligence) Decepticons are rare though. Remember they lost the great war and it is mentioned at the start "I thought they were all destroyed?" and ratchet says "they were defeated not destroyed" so it makes each villain seem more mysterious to the younger generation of inexperienced autobots. Note how prime has to learn about them through history docos? This may give more time for us to get to know each autobot better rather than have groups of robots killing each other at once like g1. I actually like that they are taking it slower. If you look at megatron's size he is way more powerful than any one individual autobot so it wouldn't be fair if the autobots fought 1 to 1 as they are not seasoned 'warriors' yet. (still learning to fight as a team) It seems that Prime will gradually learn to be a hero rather just be a hero right from the start that everyone relies on for help to win fights for them. It makes him seem more vulnerable too rather than a legend. And when the other older autobots think so lowly of him it brings an interesting twist: put a bit of rodimus inside him so that he disobeys orders from the top and thinks for himself and takes a risk. (which is what leaders sometimes might have to do by taking their own initiative rather than just relying on someone else to tell you what to do who isn't always in a position to respond intelligently to the unique situation and immediate danger in front of you)
  19. Alternators were cool. I think they needed more accessories though. They should re-release them again heh. Never got a chance to get all the ones I wanted.
  20. What about "Very-Tech" fighter vs variable fighter? hehe Haven't used that in ages.
  21. That's why I just interpret it as meaning shock or surpise. So "WTF!?" is like the most sensible. It's just an exclamation of shock or disbelief. So "oh poo we are going to be killed" is a negative version. And "OH poo minmay won the miss macross contest I can't belief it!" is the positive version. With "Oh poo" being the exclamation of "shock or disbelief" "Oh poo", "WTF", "you can't be serious" would seem to be a more modern meaning. In the nyanyan song, perhaps it's surpising/shocking/unbelievable/incredible in a way that will blown your mind and make you go "WTF? I've never tasted something this good before!" ?? Ie it's using the exclamation of "shock" in the positive, so it's 'really good'.
  22. I don't want macross to be targeted to any specific group. Just something that appeals to anyone. For me bubblegum crisis (the old one) was a fascinating world. It had a lot of mystery, but the pacing was a bit slow. The mecha designs were great, and I like that idea that the knight sabers are a vigilante group fighting for justice using technology to fight the big bad megacorporation that is taking over everything. It also has nostalgia value because of the music that was in it. (it's not jpop, more like metal/hardrock) Also the characters were each unique and likable and like the ones in macross they each had their own life outside the hero, not letting work define who they are as normal people. It's the kind of thing that appeals to americans because it takes the mecha show, create heroes, and places them in classic cyberpunk setting which is very popular. (one of my fave types of science fiction) But unlike superheroes they go for the "hero that wins through training and hard work" that is so typical of the japanese anime heroes who prefer using the mecha over radioactive powers. If you didn't like ghost in the shell movie, please see the ghost in the shell manga and gits tv series. I think the movie took out a lot of things in the manga. If you don't like mystery, politics, realistic depictions of mecha (ie like patlabar where limitations of machines are all laid bare) stay away. Gits has no visible war, but it's the dehumanisation of people in society where they are coming to grips with invasive tech that I like about it. (like blade runner it asks what it means to be human, and I think that was what the message of the movie was trying to be: a homage to blade runner) For me personally an adult anime is something like ninja scroll which combines the romance and drama with the typical action and violence that appeal to boys but done in a realistic way where the hero is always in a situation of great danger and can't just overcome a problem with ability alone and there is a higher reason for going around killing stuff so there is room for complexity of character - maybe there is some philosophical question in it for audience to ponder at the end? (this is opposite of a kiddy 2d character for an american cartoon who escapes and solves problems in 30 min blocks with a happy ending) You could say that anime that was designed to appeal to an international audience seems to be do well in the US. And really good quality animation like akira (regardless of whether you are "into it") is worth seeing just for the animation itself. No one can deny that Akira stands up well even today. I mean there is no usage of limited animation or cutting corners to save money that you see in other anime by critics of anime who see those cheap techniques used all the time and can't stand them. It would be so cool if there was a macross F movie after the tv series with that level of detail. I really don't care too much if the japanese accept Akira or Macross Plus or if it was commercially successful, if the animation is very good, it's very good and deserves merit. I understand that they want to profit from the audience that consumes it, but maybe there are some creators who want to aspire to something more than the typical anime they see and maybe secretly want to have non-anime watchers appreciate their work through the medium of animation? Ie going beyond who it was targeted towards and hoping someone who doesn't normally read manga, isn't a fan of a genre, but just wants a good story sees it and gets them interested in other things they have done?
  23. really really scary. Maybe they will drop the price if you wait a bit?
  24. Yeah but the human military got its butt kicked (world was destroyed) by the alien's military though. And almost lost to the Anti-un military. So the military fails at protecting people 50% of the time right? That's why Global sent misa to go and run from earth to find more places to plant humans so that if the human military lost in the next wave of attacks that we'd still be able to continue. Kinda like how the hobbits in lord of the rings were told to run like the wind to get away from the sauron army who is way too tough to fight. It may seem cowardly for a little guy to hide and stuff, but survival/safety is more important than medals sometimes! It is because the military is obsessed with trying to obtain more power that they might not want to admit they could lose. In SDF:M when minmay is impressed that they fought the aliens and beat the crap out of them, hikaru has to correct her and tell her that the casualties you heard on the PA system are worse than that, but you had to be lied to so you will feel happy. Ultimately the only solution is to conquer every enemy with fear and create a benevolent empire like the one in star wars to ensure eternal happiness for all beings in the universe using the military so people don't have to die. The zeon in gundam and the empire in star wars are the real good guys. Peace through enslavement is the only solution as mankind loves to kill things just like the wild animals in the jungle which fight for survival against other animals to feed its young and continue. "Survival of th fittest" as darwin would put it. The zentradi only joined the human race because they knew they would get killed by thier leader for being contaminated. So he is doing what he needs to survive. It's only a matter of time before Britai turns against the humans in a Char like moment of revenge and shouts: "this is for killing my brothers in space who although "rogue" zentradi, are innocent because of the mind control. Death to all human enslavers who are just using us to do their menial tasks like carrying heavy rocks from one place to another when they could be using destroids! We must fight for independance!" And of course exedol would follow the aliens side, being angry at pilots like Isamu Dyson for stabbing zentradi in the guts with his bayonet so savagely when he could have sung a song to them. And milia as usual being angry at not fighting because he is the wife of max, will go back to being a rogue zentradi annoyed that humans are not fighting enough and that as a race it is getting weaker and weaker as it loses practice. That will be the next cataclysm (space war II) where humans and zentradi must fight each other for control to protect the freedom of their own kind in an epic war that will bring about the end of the world. (universe I mean. The PC version of "armageddon") Unlike space war I the zentradi are just as smart as the humans this time so it will be an even fight. Singing will be banned by the zentradi, and humans will all have to be macronised and use human-made powered suits, to even the odds against the aliens. Every peaceful planet will be ravaged by war and innocent aliens races will be drawn into it whether they like to fight or not. That will be like *outer heaven fantasised about by elite soldiers who fight as a hobby. *reference to metal gear where the war is an excuse to keep the soldiers in business.
