That's a good question. I suppose they had spies and these may have taught them about humans and they learned a thing or two about how human do stuff like paint. You'll note kamjin learned a thing or two about kissing by this time, and had learned to resist minmay's singing, and also hostage taking as well as things like riding a horse from watching cowboys in westerns. They probably became aware gradually of how to do stuff over time otherwise how did kamjin get the ship repaired towards the last ep? The culture shock thing wore off by this time. It was no longer a thing to be feared. They must have come to understand now that when something is damaged it can be repaired provided you have access to the part and know what to do. I try to think of it this way: he had other missions where people would infiltrate and gain access to vf1 and these micronised zentradi would defect from humans and want to go back to thier fighting instinct. Maybe even the anti un would help them and supply the stuff they need in secret hoping to gain from the revolution and take over a weakened UNG?

Somebody came up with the idea of a zentradi green valk in the spirit of the green Qrau from the tv series. I wouldn't mind that kind of scheme actually. Provided they come up with a whole new sticker sheet for it and everything. It might look pretty cool to see a zentradi vf1. If kamjin could successfully steal the monster, why not a vf1? (which undergoes a zentradi rogue paintscheme?) Who wouldn't want a vf1 with the zentradi "Z" symbol on it? (in place of the un spacy kite symbol) One of the things I liked about zeta gundam was how the aeug took mechs from different sides and had those mechs fight alongside each other. (ie Titan coloured federation gundams fighting with zeon zakus and those whatchamacallit mechs with the camera for a head) All they need to do is have these done up in the spirit of a rogue zentradi group mixed with stolen mechs from other sides. (stolen monster, rogue Glaug, and repainted battroid-jacked vf1s which are sometimes used to dogfight in atmoshpere, all fighting together)

People can accept the surfboards the mechs in gundam use to ride in the air but they can't accept these surfboards. hmmm...

It's 'evolving' which means they can make a super enhanced version of it to sell a new toy.

Which period do you want to live in the Macross
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to vanpang's topic in Movies and TV Series
2045 onwards. Even cops can ride valks there. I would probably get a job catching the whale poachers and chasing people who steal VF1's in my own souped up machine. You get the benefit of being on a planet with hot female elf women wearing clothes that leave little to the imagination. Also the sharon apple hologram technology will have advanced by then to have realistic imagery that anyone can hack or mod. (sort of like photoshop but with 3d images) I would probably end up creating my own homebrew porn and selling it on the galactic network to fund a valk and destroid collection. Plus there are no scary enemies: The protodevlin are scared of basara and the PC wiped themselves out of existence. All the spoils of thier previous wars go to us. We also have portable fold to get from one place to another quickly, and there are improvements made to the valks in that time. I mean it is a time where even 14 year old children can pilot the planes with ease and no adult supervision or anything. -
Hrm downloading now. -Variable mecha fighters. -Aliens. -Characters in colored mechs that remind me of red and blue Qrau. -micro missile swarms -deaths that are quite violent Sounds like the new macross.

The Worst Anime You've Watched Recently
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Pretty much all the pokemon type cartoons. I'm sick of them. Too many clones trying to cash in on the monster breeding/pet raising/trading card craze. At least with transformers the robots had interesting backstory to them. Prime was a hero. Megatron was a cool villain, and starscream was always plotting in the background which would show the disadvantage of the bad guys (no honor, always trying to climb the corporate ladder to knock the gorrilla off the top at the expense of the group) which the good guys would use to thier advantage because the bad guys were ruled over with fear rather than through the belief of loyalty and taking on the heroic principles. I can see now that Prime's death was such a shock to children: it was like a jesus style sacrifice, and the matrix of leadership was him passing on the holy spirit to the autobots even though his body perished. The anime TF movie captured all that and was entertaining even for an adult who watches more serious science fiction. Kiddy anime shows need interesting characters. I think now there is too much teen angst and crying and not enough doing stuff. Gundam Seed Destiny for exmaple didn't have time to build up the characters enough to make us really care if they lived. It wasn't like macross where a character would die and you went "WTF?? he was important, you can't kill him!" -
Well if they can't get the license to do the jets they can create fictional ones like what you see in macross. A yf19 jetfire will do me ok.
-
Maybe yamato watched too many macross 7 episodes. The colours on some of the civilian valks were funny in that.
-
Ok then. I wonder what the finished thing will look like? I wonder why graham commented on how good it looks in fighter but no permission to let us see pics? Pics in all modes would be nice. All they need now for the camo is a vf11 style bayonet. I wonder if they will try to do the same for the VF0 and try to make all kinds of LV variants?
-
The thing about the camo though is in battroid mode it wouldn't be able to hide if the greyish stuff was shown on the underside. So it all depends on the mode it is in. I think of the Battroid as being the UN Army issue valk which is used in place of destroids and attacks from the ground but uses the fighter mode for quick travel. Think of shin in the forest in macross zero against the anti-un's sv51 as an example. When you are up that close it might be much more sensible to fight in battroid in an enclosed space with not much manueverability. While the low vis: it is modeled on schemes for fighters mainly. So I still like the idea of a camo on all sides. Perhaps the pilot is so good he can fly very low to the ground? (ie like dyson and guld in macross plus) If an army of giant zentradi attacked on foot, I can imagine a camo valk as being just right as micron equivalent to anti-giant soldier. A giant's hearing and size would mean hiding in robot mode to avoid detection could still make sense. Maybe normal humans might notice vibrations and loud noise (since we would be like mice to them) but not a giant since it is so massive and insensitive that it is easy to ignore a hidden mech. So I think it all depends on the role of the valk: is it a dogfighting machine and mainly a fighter, or a mechanical soldier used to fight giants on the ground and possibly sneak up close with little warning?

That's really funny that the Alts were more loved over there. What were the reasons? What they should do is get kawamori to handle alternator jets in his own reimagining of the decepticons. But if they do autobots: make Jetfire his classic vf1 version of course - if they can't do that give him a transformation similar to it. I liked how in the lineart of prime he has a really mean look in his eye! They should translate that into the decepticon toys.

I actually like the concept of the Camo valk. But I dunno the colours look a bit off. Make them darker, and maybe add in more black. I had a more 'heavy' look in mind like what you get with the early VB6 color. (before they lightened it up.) I wonder if the pilot will be solid snake? Actually put in snake plisskin from escape from new york. I'm still undecided on the stealth. Interesting experiment though. I thought they would merely go with the ultra rare all black "Titan's Elite colours" credit card valk with only slight change. It just suits the whole black VF17 and black VF22s theme from other macross 7. People once mentioned that if giant robots were real they shouldn't be painted in bright primary colours like in anime (ie gundam's blue, white and yellow) but in more 'blending with the environment' paintscheme. I like that idea and hope they continue to experiment till they get it good enough for fans. I would have been happy with just a new grey low vis but this is interesting to see.
-
Might be a special UN Army paintscheme? Seen in Battroid mode with custom GBP paintscheme? That might makes sense. If they do something with camoflage I would like to see weathering. (dirt and mud etc) Role is to fight alongside heavily modded destroids like the ground gundams in 8th MS Team? ah. *dreams of a destroid macross side story*

Robotech and HG license debates
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Roy Focker's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I wish the two worlds would seperate. Robotech fans got thier versions of macross valks, while at the same time macross fans could buy macross valks and games. Everyone getting what they wanted and leaving the fanbase to decide with thier wallet. I mean in macross we don't have Jack Archer! If you are a fan of both robotech and macross you got to take sides due to the legal probs. They really need to sort this out lest the very macross franchise gets old and worthless for the sake of the fans who have the money and don't want to waste it importing. -
It transforms into a mech while in space to fight giant aliens in powered armor. Huge media blackout.
-
Well maybe if they make a movie version with a proper ending to macross zero, they can say these were the experimental designs the anti-un stole from UN, which after the UN started raiding one of thier bases and taken it back, (post macross zero ova event) then had the reaction engine put inside and used. ...But no, they didn't end up being the production version because after they put reaction engines in them, they were stolen again by anti-un. (ie like the constant gundam-jacking and swapping of the gundam mk II in zeta gundam ) So that's why the VF0 came about: all that lost tech meant they had to start again. Eventually the SV51 (the rival to these vfex valks in the pics) won out in performance and these were used by the anti un instead.

See that's just it. The collector stuff toynami released WAS the crap stuff. But if the cheap stuff turns out pretty good I'm interested. If those cheapies turn out better than the MPC, those MPC fans must be undergoing some huge damage control right now for the money they spent. I will hold off until I hear reviews. I don't like the skinny thigh and think that is one of the weaknesses of it so far. Somebody mentioned before that if it weren't for the toynami vf1 we might not have even seen the yamato 1/48. Ironic when you think of it. In a strange way it is still good news for fans of macross who couldn't afford to buy the more expensive stuff in large number but wanted a PT cheapie. I think the prob for me with the MPC is they were trying to play up the whole: "these are the best rendition of vf1 you will ever see!" and could kinda get away with the high price due to fanboys not being honest with themselves about whether the money they spent was really worth it for the quality of the toy inside. (ie people opening the box and being disapointed. But to thier credit they improved with later releases)
-
if bandai were to make PG snap fit macross models cheap and they could transform, that would be so cool.
-
maybe..
-
I agree that is pretty close to the model. Whatever nitpicks there are over the shape, these are made up for by the improved gimmicks and stuff. A toy that looks close to a model for display, but with sturdy plastic and perfect transformation (decent look in all modes) so as not to snap in half when you handle it. Although as I mentioned in the other thread about skinny valks, I tend to like the sleek but delicate look of a valk over the heavy and chunky look due to the nature of the robot as a jet that mostly fights in the air. (with the exception of GBP which beefs it up like a destroid) crotch pieces being long in battroid isn't that much a problem with me. They did a good job hiding it with the 1/48 GBP imo. Skinny legs might translate into more space for forearms which can hold beefier hands which in turn can support the beefy gunpod.
-
Now bring on the SV51. Created as 3d model so it shouldn't be hard either.

So Who Actually Likes Macross?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to yellowlightman's topic in Movies and TV Series
What they need to do: get what was good with macross plus and Zero (dogfights) SDF:macross, (relationships) and combine it with the epic feel of DYRL. (ie a whole world's army at war against another world's armies with all the gritty violence seen in DYRL) I think one of the reasons I didn't like Macross 7 is due to the small scale fighting. (only between a small group of aliens and a single ship) Sure it is pretty much peaceful in the macross universe at that time, but next time (if there is one) I want huge battles (like in DYRL) and long list of different characters (SDF) with more modern mecha. (perhaps have a more advanced civilisation than ourselves that had developed up from survivors of the thought-extinct PC but who are something different altogether and who are hostile) Without a new hostile race I don't think there is much reason for another epic story. The one thing that macross II achieved was it at least created that threat of being totally defeated by a much better armed race who knew what they were doing. UN spacy didn't just go uncontested forever so it was interesting to see "how did they get out off this one?" (using the assumption that music was now useless established at the beginning of the ova) and watch it to the end. Destroids got some action as a last line of defense from the ground, (I hate how they are now useless ) and ace pilots can't win a whole war so there was a definate "this is the end of the world" feel to it with humans throwing everything they got rather than sitting back relaxed. -
More GBP releases in all the different variations of colours it had appeared in from the macross universe to milk this as much as possible.
-
What I'd like to see: a hikaru 1j wearing GBP1S armor inside the box plus Fast pack parts. But it would be slightly cheaper than if you had bought everything seperate. All presented in a single box. Then design the box art so it looks distinct, and then call it exclusive. (with something on the box indicating "I'm special from toys r us")
