There were other leapers like him I recall that he finds out about in the final episode. And at the time the bartender revealed he was one of "god's helpers" mentioning that the tasks will get harder and harder so Sam decides to keep leaping and helping people. It puts a whole new spin on it making him "chosen" as opposed to a victim of an accident with no purpose who only wants to get home. Rather than being unwilling to keep it up, his attitude changes and he decides he wants to keep leaping. Good series. Each episode was something new. Although I here people were divided about the ending being happy and wanted a predictable ending where he lives happily ever after. But imo, not getting home keeps the story open ended and more adventurous. (kinda like that dungeouns and dragons cartoon where those kids were stuck in the fantasy world)

Newbie ANSWERS thread!

It's not that delicate. Just worry about the backpack hinge when trying to transform while fast packs are on. (I always take the fast packs off when tranforming because they are heavy) If this breaks you can get a recast. The gunpod strap kinda breaks too if you are not careful. But it is the ultimate PT valk toy to own. Once you get one, you will want more. I'd buy the upcoming stealth valk if I hadn't already committed to a VF0 and Garland. -
Variable V. Nonvariable Mecha
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Boxer's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I prefer transformable. 2 or 3 modes doesn't matter so long as it looks kick ass. One of the things I particularly like about macross is that each mode does serve a purpose within the world it lives in. Fighter is the speediest. (weapons great for long range) Battroid allows for fighting in close or in areas where there is no space to manuever in fighter mode. Gerwalk easier to use than battroid, but has some of the qualities that come with battroid (like manipulator arms) that make it better at fighting than a fighter jet would be (such as being able to shoot a gun at wide angles whilst staying still.) but without the penalties of a battroid (too much drag, not good for fast travel) I also think combinable mecha are cool. The assault type aquarion has many great modes of combat. (the walking tank mode it my fave) If I didn't spend all my money on macross toys I would have bought one of these already. Another one I like is the octos from macross zero. Looks like an underwater craft and can hide, but has a land mode which changes it into a walking tank with rollers on its legs to extend its range. More tranformable destroid would be nice in the macross world. Also I love the variable glaug over its single mode version. Please make one of these as toys yamato, just like the variable monster! -
Congrats to the guy who gets the vf11b too. I would hate to pay the ebay prices for them.
-
The toys fighting look really cool. What I would like to see is a banpresto getting shot by a yamato Qrau and the pieces fly all over the places and there is a huge circular explosion. (not a realistic one, but like what you see in the tv series) They use the same footage over again. Maybe what they need is a realistically textured papercraft SDF up close of the bridge. And have the yamato DYRL hikaru 1/48 floating in front of it in battroid mode to mimmick the tv series intro! (ok maybe use the tv series valk since I think the tv series intro would be much easier to do because it just shows the bridge sliding into view. (very 2d ish unlike the scene in DYRL where he is actually protecting the bridge from an explosion)

She Sings As Lynn Minmay(before And Now)
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to diamondtmt's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ok I won't call her minmay. But the hotdog mascot analogy is pretty bad since macross fans don't think what she did was embarassing. When the guy calls out miiiiiinmaaay in the background in DYRL he is really excited to hear minmay sing that's all. (not mocking her) -
Question About Fast Packs!
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to GutsAndCasca's topic in Movies and TV Series
It's eyes are deformed but the rest of the proportions (like forehead and the space between the eye sockets) aren't. Kinda like a super deformed human-alien hybrid chick cosplaying as cloud from final fantasy 7 without a neck. -
I would love to see his whole collection. Maybe he can take a video upload it to the internet so we can all see it. It's hard for me to imagine so many. Same thing with kensei. Line em all up in battroid mode and knock them over to create a domino.
-
Ok but all I'm saying is: if you advertise to more people, the more offers you are likely to get due to the increased exposure. (so someone who doesn't check the 'for sale' section can see your sig and might end up finding it that way by chance for example. )

She Sings As Lynn Minmay(before And Now)
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to diamondtmt's topic in Movies and TV Series
Haha thanks for that. She mentions not liking to sing it because too many people were calling her minmay. What would have been funny is if someone in the crowd shouted MIIIINMAAAYY!! like in dyrl. -
Showcasing The Vf-1s In Do You Remember Love.
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
I vote max: -reverses the gunpod to use as arm mounted gun -uses the head laser while in fighter mode to hit enemy at his side -even though he looks weak (glasses, small frame) he still beat the zentradi ace (who looks very threatening, killing people violently) -less experienced than hikaru but better pilot -

It depends on how you want to see UNG. Were they in a arms race to have the best weapons, or do they no longer see aliens as a threat because of the use of minmay defence? In the story you can see how complacent they are in thier attitudes to combat. Hibiki's warnings to the government that they don't stand a chance mirrors misa's warning to the higher ups in SDF:Macross about the zentradi's superior numbers. I can totally see people falling into a sleep after having just beaten the biggest threat to mankind after SWI with younger generations believing "It can never happen again". Both stories are believable but in different ways. 80 years with no big world war against hostile threat of massive size sounds pretty believable to me. Especially when you consider the aliens have merged with us and become a part of our own race, giving people a sense that all is well and that there can't possibly be any more threat in space to have to advance weapons further. The military may not have wanted to explore all that much either in the alternate universe. Maybe it just might have meant an increased chance you would bump into a hostile race again and endanger earth in its comfortable corner with no worries. (and I can see people not really caring what is out there and more concerned with things to do with thier everyday life) Oh and I don't consider small conflicts as massive scale war more like mopping up a few rebels with SWI era technology who are too small to be of any prolonged threat. (see how many SDF they had in the show compared to only 1 in SDF: macross? Imagine the damage you could do with several larger main gun blasts and how 1 single shot could wipe out a fleet?) -
Only problem is with this pic: the gunpod looks funny when its handle is sticking out like that.
-
Looks nice. When you get to the 5 finger articulated version (slimmed down) I would like to see some final pics. Looks like these would be the ultimate hands to own for a yammie. Considering the Toynami alpha hands were articulated, I wonder if yamato would ever make some of these in future? Even if they are not that detailed they could at least go for a alternator level of posability.
-
That is very cool. Puts the yamato low vis 2 GBP to shame.

^ image of jetfire in box swiped from ebay brings back memories of me as a child wishing he owned one.

If they don't sell here I'm sure someone from ebay would want it. Just put RARE RARE RARE RARE. Cuz this (VF11FP) is generally pretty rare I think. Also explain in the description that it is a better version than the earlier non fast pack versions since it doesn't have the fragile hip problem as a way to explain it would hold its value much more than the earlier one. And then of course put a "for sale" ad in your sig to advertise that it is for sale incase nobody sees it here. If it still dosn't sell, keep it and wait for the value to go up. (constantly watch ebay prices) I think people's wallets are anticpating the vf0 and spent on all the money on all the upcoming 1/48 stuff (stealth, gbp, garland etc) so theres no money left. Me, I have scrapped enough to buy a vfo but I am waiting for some reviews instead of preordering. But everyday I am tempted to spend the money on some games. edit: some ebay prices on 1/72s yf21 FP: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/YF-21-Yamato-Valkyr...1QQcmdZViewItem vf11 fp: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VF-11B-Yamato-Valky...1QQcmdZViewItem vf19a Game edition: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/YF-19A-Yamato-Valky...1QQcmdZViewItem (can't wait till they reach low vis price! ) Yf19: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/YF-19-Yamato-Valkyr...1QQcmdZViewItem ridiculous, nobody will buy that. RARE RARE RARE out of control I tell ya

Anybody Like The Vf-2ss Space Valkyrie 2?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Phalanx's topic in Movies and TV Series
Ok, but for those fans who have an issue with the vf2ss where it is about the things you listed, (this wouldn't be directed at you then) it may be important to list reasons for why certain mecha look the way they do or why they are equiped with so much crap on thier body. (like the drones for eg which remind people of gundam bits) Like the stuff about the huge gunpod (vf11 full armor) was my way of illustrating that a big backpack weapon for the VF2ss although ugly, may have a practical reason within the sci-fi world of macross, so the stuff "sticking out" may not just be for looks or to be flashy. (Although it might look flashy too) There may be a "realistic" excuse (within the sci fi world) for why such a weapon that has a super sized look to it must be used. In the case of macross 7 maybe as a heavy "anti GBP" gun against anti-un pilots using armored valks for eg, where speed isn't important but heavy firepower is? (remember the reactive armor in macross zero? Perhaps this defense rendered normal gunpods less effective so bigger ones needed to be used?) But in the case of macross II: maybe they just want thier ace to have acess to weapons that might be unwieldy for normal pilots, but with training, can still be aimed? When you look back at mobile phones it amazes me how impractical they are compared to today's phones. The oversized brick just looks ridiculous. Same logic might apply in the scifi world before they can make the technology more efficient and shrink it down. Oversized guns and valks with too many guns sticking out of them might look ugly (see the stampede valkyrie) but within the sci fi world or timeline when humans had to "patch things together" rather than design them from the ground up to look sleek and sexy, the ugliness makes perfect sense to me and makes the world even more believable, because there is a history to its appearance you know what I mean? stuff sticking out (possibly plays a role similar to Gundam Heavy Arms in gundam wing ): ^because it floats in space and has an arm to grapple it like in the movie, who cares about aerodynamics, whether it has bits sticking out that make it look ugly, or that it can't fly in an atmosphere or land like a real plane? It's a specialised mecha right? What I would be considering is how powerful and effective the weapon is. And for those who mention gundam: I would have to agree. I think macross is superior for its mecha, even if we are talking about the macross 7 customs made by firebomber. One of my pet hates is seeing mecha using giant ball and chain weapons and axes and stuff as if they were fighting in the middle ages or something. (beam sabers I don't mind though) -
Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
It's about time they discovered aliens in UC. The only thing that can stop the newtypes from wanting to take over earth or the federation from creating a dictatorship is a threat from a technologically superior race able to kill either of them off. The psychics would be used to make psi soldiers, (like the ones in starcraft which are able to communicate with the aliens) and the federation would stop wasting money on creating giant robots and more on finding other lifeforms. Large scale mobile suits would be scrapped for smaller ones which are used for exploration. They would only hve transformable mecha which would increase the fighting ability of each mecha. And advances in AI would allow for mobile suits to act independantly without pilots, saving money. The war should no longer have anything to do with newtypes or oldtypes but move on from this. Maybe in the future the aliens have possession of rare materials that the human race need to fight for, and the first war is defence from these? I always felt the one thing missing from gundam was an alien invasion from aliens with different technology from us. It is as if there was a non stop war with the anti un in macross and we were only told about the human wars and there was never a single power strong enough to unite humanity.- 3814 replies

But what about this:
-
He seems a lot less uptight though. I don't see why he should be the leader when the little kid is the one saving the day half the time! Renton should be the leader of Gekkostate. He is the one with the Uber mecha his dad was the hero who saved the world His gramps worked on the original alien robot. All those surfers need to give him more respect FFS especially when he first got on the plane with them and said how disapointed they were when they finally met renton and found it was just a little kid. It's the fact that its just a little kid and that he is able to beat these elite pilots with his super powers that is helping them survive. So obvious what's going to happen at the end: they will need the uber mecha to rescue everyone from dying. The alien robot only chooses certain people to do all those super moves else it is just a normal machine.

Anybody Like The Vf-2ss Space Valkyrie 2?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Phalanx's topic in Movies and TV Series
I guess that is one of the reasons I fell in love with it asa kid. One of those "Holy poo" moments, that made you feel like there was a lot of a cool stuff like that to surprise. The way the fighter transforms mid-air in ep1 was also cool too. "Don't eject just change to battroid!" "WTF is a battroid?!" Makes you wonder "how the hell did all the parts meet up in this shape to create a robot? I want to rewind that!" -
Anybody Like The Vf-2ss Space Valkyrie 2?
1/1 LowViz Lurker replied to Phalanx's topic in Movies and TV Series
The main advantage of the newer valks is they are more advanced. But seriously I don't see why everyone hates the VF2SS and am not convinced by any of the arguments against it. Like I have said before space combat != atmoshperic combat. They have variants for both space and atmophere (like the vf19 "short stubby wings" version vs the "longer wings" version) even though a valk should be good enough to fly in either atmopshere or space. (it doesn't have to be the best but be good enough so as not to limit where the pilot can go) The same thing applies to gundam where the MS 8th team have specialised gundam designs primarily to fight on the ground in earth atmosphere (so they have a boxy armored look to them) while the ones that fight in space are designed specifically for that. (more emphasis on manueverability in that environment - despite what haters of gundam think, there is at least a little realism in the UC universe) I think people just have an axe to grind with the makers of macross II because it went unaproved by the original creators of the show more than because the valk is unsuitable for the macross universe due to not fitting in. I've already pointed out how the space mecha can carry oversized weapon like the massive gunpod that the VF11 with GBP armor uses in space. (watch macross 7 or get out the macross design works to see it) So all this talk about how "the massive gun looks ridiculous or is not fitting for macross universe" shouldn't apply. There is also lots of unrealistic things that the valks do in the original tv series like how the vf1 flies out of the earth gravity by itself when it isn't supposed to unless it has the special booster equiped. Humans - starts out fighting in earth atmoshpere zentradi and other alien races - use to fighting in different environment ie space. Therefore they don't give a poo about aerodynamics and focus on heavy weapons and bulky armor - eg the Qrau) When the humans go out into space to fight as they explore: the prioirty should be space combat so you have designs that might look "sci-fi" more than realworld. And didn't kawamori himself say that the vf1 is not based on f14 but moreso that his idea went down a path similar to the shape of an f14 only because the f14 was logically the poo at the time so it makes sense to make an advanced "futuristic" plane take on some of its characteristics? (that is to say the vf1 would have looked much different if another design had been the high performance fighter in the real world of the time, so don't think of the vf1 as a rip off of the f14 specifically, but rather that as a sci-fi mech designer, you had to make a futuristic vehicle take on the properties of whatever kicked ass at the time - but still have the aim of being typically 'sci-fi/futuristic' and not 'modern day' or 'real world') If you look in macross zero there are still real world planes shown in episode 1. You still see tanks and conventional weapons being used. So the valks must always represent "alien" technology that is somehow better than the real world. If it has a strange quality to it that is because the humans found this wonderful, magical, mysterious alien technology and it was good enough to perform much better than our own conventional stuff, so much that we could improve the existing design "of the day" to boost the performance beyond what is modern. The problem is when "of the day" keeps changing as the old design gets superceded in the real world. So I am quite happy to see valks keep thier "sci-fi" aproach to things, because who knows? In future, maybe real world designs will start to look more science fiction in the future? (cars for example with lighter bodies and more rounded edges, and running quieter, running more fuel efficient, and with technology that wasn't possible in the past) There are many cool things that are impossible to pull off in the tv series (that makes a VF1 different to anything human use) in the real world. So it's a question of to what degree do you base "real world" as meaning it "must stick to designs that are modern to us" in the real world. Why can't a sci-fi mecha be as much a part of macross as a non-sci-fi one? (when clearly the vehicles in sdf:macross pull off typically sci-fi manuevers anyway) -
I actually love the models for the detail, but as a little kid what you really wanted was a toy that could transform just like in the show. For me having the model just wearing GBP as opposed to equiping it (the model is stuck as GBP) sort of took the thrill out of it all. This was the time when transformers were big and the fad of transformation was at its highest. So my expectation for a transforming alpha and a transforming vf1 were at thier highest. Not being able to find one really sucked. It's like not having a transforming megatron or transforming prime but every morning you would be teased by it on the cartoon. Nothing against models (I had heaps which I ended up breaking) but for me owning jetfire or a chunky (didn't know about takatoku) was what I would have wanted for christmas. I had the same sort of disapointment today when masterpiece ultramagnus didn't come with armor.
-
My story is kind of similar to yours but as a kid I wanted a transforming 'Alpha' even more than a "veritec". I thought at the time the fact that it was both a transforming fighter, gerwalk and battroid, as well as a machine that could combine with another and carry a powered suit was awesome. So glad that we are getting proper transforming toys with detail and proper gbp armor that you actually put onto the thing rather than as a model. I didn't have that much interest in the matchbox destroids (I had a spartan) as I was into jetfire. While kids were complaining they couldn't afford optimus prime as a kid I was sad I could never have jetfire. How much was jetfire back then anyway? I never really had the chance to see a takatoku but I do remember once my older brother had a transforming VF1 model. So I'm pretty sure there were models that did transform unless my memory is screwed.
