  1. Maybe a meme from a popular forum? Maybe related to the joint strike fighter and thrust vectoring. So someone may have made a joke about turning on a dime, and thrust vectoring "owning the skies" I think the full thing goes something like: THRUST VECTORING OWNZ THE SKYS TURN ON A DIME MACROSS ZERO STYLE or THRUST VECTORING OWNS THE SKY. THIS THING CAN TURN ON A DIME, MACROSS-ZERO STYLE! ... something like that. Don't know where it came from. Why is john kerry involved? Is it to do with upgrading defense or soemthing?
  2. It doesn't have to go into space. I think the stealth is the space use one and the Camo the earth one. Since it has the GBP for it while the stealth gets the FP booster with Strike cannon or micromissile launcher. See gundam 8th MS team for an example of mechs dedicated to ground combat. I guess you can consider these GBP camo valks as the 'solid snake' or 'rambo' valks that sneak into position to take advantage of the element of surprise. Or imagine a scenario where you have vf1 fighting against Octos which sneak in from the shore by transforming from sub into land mode and these guys hide in the bushes with GBP to defend. I guess there would be more emphasis on standing still and increasing the protection of the battroid by having armor in an area packed with trees where flying around in jet mode is not going to give you much advantage. (no space, you would crash into things) A lot of scenes in SDF:macross are about speed and manuevering around things with fancy flying. Macross Zero I've noticed tends to focus on cover more. (ie hiding behind a mountain, suprising people by jumping from a blind spot and fighting up close in battroid, shooting at people from the ground etc)
  3. So long as they break from the tired concept of evolved humans vs unevolved humans. And not make the bad guys steal the robot and its technology and clone that technology so all robots essentially look the same. That was the thing I didn't like about seed destiny. There were a few designs like the Gaia gundam that I liked because we saw a dog mecha. I figure if they are going to explain seed mode maybe they could explain it as a gift that is spiritual (perhaps BC knows all about the evolution of humans but wants to keep it a secret: the heightened senses will be a threat to security because they are scared thier elite soldiers will be obsolete and can't control things) not genetic or to do with something that relates to going to space. It would be controversial and a breath of fresh air if they had a person on earth who was a newtype and had better ability due to his determination, training and skill not because of what environment he is born and this breaks from the theory that going to space makes you a nicer person who cares about mother earth and doesn't get into fights. You know like in Metal Gear Solid 1 where snake manages to beat the bad guy and it is found later that the bad guy had the better genes but snake overcame that with his skills and personality and experiences. That was a concept I liked. I'm sick of this idea that going into space makes you a god that allows you to win a war single handedly which is why I found the non-newtype stories like 8th MS Team much closer to realism because anyone could die at any minute and there was a sense of danger. An ace didn't have to be a super ace that could dodge 50 million bit attacks simultaneously, he just had to use common sense and tactics and understand his limits. As an example in star wars they kinda mentioned that some of it was to do with physical stuff (like having high midiclorons count) but the other half is your personality, skill, experience, and willpower. In seed destiny it is seen by dullindal that your genes should automatically determine your path ignoring any other factor like a person's will to follow thier dreams, thier determination to follow through with something and breaking and these gave the person enough potential to break from thier limits and keep themselves improving etc.. (sorta like if you take two twins, put one of them in one environment and give them different parents and encourage them to use certains skill more, and take the other twin in another environment and given them different parents and only work thier natural skills, then the two twins in adult life wil probably look, behave and act differently - its more then just genes) I think that seed mode should have nothing to do with gravity or genes but be about a person's willingness to tap into that part of thier spirit that makes them go down a particular path. So there will be highly learned old men with SEED mode, people who are born with intuition at an early age, some who just learn to develop it through experience etc. Because it's really racist in a sense to label evolution as going down a specific path and NOT in another path. Evolution rewards a species that has a function that is useful to the environment that person is in. If humans can't solve thier problem on earth what makes it any different going to space? Ultimately the war has more to do with one side wanting power and the other side wanting that power too. Whoever has the power gets to control the other. This is something that is common to man from ancient times and won't ever change. I think macross is a lot more honest about things even though you could call it black and white because of the use of aliens. The aliens weren't evil, it was the intentions of the people trying to experiment with new weapons to assert control over others that led to the extinction of the PC. In yamato although the aliens had the upper hand, their planet was going to die because it was thier time to go. We only thought they were evil because they happened to have the upper hand. I'm pretty sure aliens won't destroy gundam if handled properly. The aliens would have the upper hand, the humans would be the underdog beating them using cunning, better tactics and original ideas. Mecha would not have to look identical because the aliens use different technology to us which is hard toreverse engineer, and this would have an effect on what their mecha look like.
  4. Here in australia the sun is out a lot of the time. But too much and you get skin cancer. Very hot and sweaty in summer (to the point where I am so tired I can't be bothered moving and can't concentrate) so I would prefer indoors air conditioned atmoshpere. I'm not fat or unfit and lazy or anything, I just think for rare sh!t it is better to just eat up the cost rather than waste time actually "hunting" for a specific item like how some people have mentioned in order to complete the collection. Ideally what I would want is equal chance to get any figure within a line rather than having to help others spot where I can see certain figures available so that in the long run the company makes more profit. (because you ended up getting more than 1 figure in the series due to availability of other figures in the line) I hate how the scalper has destroyed the fun in shopping (kids sshould be able to see rows of different stuff rather than the same stuff and 1 or 2 of the different thing) and I just won't bother going on hunts for this reason because frankly it is not worth it in terms of time. Money isn't a problem if the figure is truly a pain in the ass to find. It's a different story if you only go to the toy section if you are already at the store for something else, and through luck happen to be there at the moment when a figure you want is there, because that wouldn't necessarily mean you were actively hunting. (more like casual browsing to see if there is something you like) Exactly. I mentioned that as you get older you get cranky (takes time and effort to spot the best find) and can't stand rushing for something so you just eat it up. (if the price is not too outrageous of course) Although I don't like it, what can you do if you don't have the time for hunting?
  5. If I were a zentradi with access to a cloning chamber I would clone a few ishstars from macross II and make them my slave girls jubba-the-hut style. I would probably genetically modify the hair so I could tell each one apart and maybe number them. Ishstar 1, (green hair) Ishstar 2 (blonde) and Ishstar 3 (red) For cute (even more illegal) chics I would have to go for the girl in full metal panic. uuh the one with the silvery hair who gives everyone orders. So you can't say I only like dumb bimbo types. She's pretty confident, and independant and has a brain so you can have an interesting conversation after doing her.
  6. I reckon if they did make the camo a credit card ultra rare limited like the black valk, they would be more appealing for the completist just for the rarity alone. I think the concept of having a camo version is good though because it is different enough for people to notice. I can imagine gbp camo valks walking on the ground in battroid in similar style to the gundam in MS8th team. From above a parked gerwalk might just be harder to spot in camo color. Much harder than a bright red or black valk.
  7. They should panel line the thing and maybe weather it to make it look like it was fighting in the jungle. Instead of calling this the lv ver2 (sounds kinda boring) they should call it the camo low visilbility imo.
  8. Ok how about a comet strikes the earth killing all the people on earth. The newtypes with thier evolved brains then take over earth for themselves and for a long time there is no war. Because newtypes are the peaceful communicative ones right? Then as technology advances, the newtypes with thier evolved senses get a signal of aliens from other planets. But the aliens are like humanoid in appearance. (they were once inhabitants on earth before leaving it) You know how in the x-men when Professor Xavier kinda can communicate with his mind? Well that sparks interest in the search for other life out there based on an ability to communicate thought through space. The aliens themselves would not be aliens but just highly evolved humans who just look slightly different. (didn't they do this in yamato? The people look identical to us) So this way they can have the human drama, and the aliens wouldn't necesarily be evil invaders but have all the same faults as humans. But the more highly evolved humans with better technology actually treat the weaker humans who are less evolved as threats. (really a class struggle where the haves enslave the have-nots because they are scared of them) So we have a war between newtypes, evolved humans, (thier mecha look completely different to gundams the way the "turn A" looks completely different to anything else) and maybe survivors who have been mutated and adapted to the post apoc earth. (who are now like the treasure hunters seen in Gundam X scavenging for the scrap and mecha parts to make custom machines) The newtypes would then have to join forces with the oldtypes and we have an epic struggle between psychics who are better at space combat and reading moves and emotions, and old types who have more experience under gravity and ground combat and being physically more tough... against a threat more powerful than either of them. Essentially it would be like the game star craft where you had zerg (low tech who are organic in thier weapons: things like using gas to poison things, or biological weapons that are numerous and cheap to produce) terran (medium tech but physically weak without tools) and Protoss (the highly evolved guys who who rely too much on infrastructure to live but are deadly if a little reliant on expensive-to-make things) If they made it an AU, and made it about people just struggling for power (no good guys, just people fighting for thier own side) then I think we would see more original looking mecha because each side has thier own way of fighting. The thing that I just realised after watching SEED is how many mecha look the exact same! I couldn't tell which mecha was which when it got to SEED Destiny because I couldn't tell the very-similar models apart. It got to a point where the fighting was confusing. The Zaku on the other hand has a distinct look to it that serates it from the gundam so it stands out in a fight and has its own weakness and strengths. I guess I want a real robot show that feels like little details matter in combat and the technology being used is unique to specific side. Like how in macross you got the valk and the Qrau, and the battlepods, and the destroids etc that is the kind of variation I want to see in gundam. The problem is each side can so easily steal technology off each others because they are at about 50/50 in power. It wouldn't happen so much if one side had actually WON and defeated the other side to a point where the other guy had to give up. So the wars keep going on and on and on which I think is a bit silly. Maybe it would be better for once that one side wins and suffers enormous casualties and the other side loses and can't fight back because the winning side has such a huge technological advantage? In Gundam Wing at least it felt nice and self-contained because the dictator was beaten and you felt like: this is the end! The good guys win. Similar to how in star wars when the emperor finally fell down that shaft never to be seen again. You would think any events after the war, would result in long peace. And people would progress and move on, and instead of fighting over the same thing, they fight over other things. In macross the anti-UN got thier butts kicked. In star wars the jedi were almost wiped out completely. (the prequel trilogy is essentially a story about how the good guys lost) Some guys had to lose and the winning side got to have its way for a time. You know what I mean?
  9. I just realised something..minmay and kaifun were pretty disturbingly 'close' in macross. Maybe in the robotech world what they could do is have it so minmay was pregnant with his child from the time they were seen going in together in the hotel. Scoopuda!! Also it's no secret everyone hates minmei in the robotech universe. Here's a sample of what I mean amongst some robotech fans: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=164220 It's time they made minmie an evil villain who turned bitter and wanted to get revenge on hikaru er I mean rick, and minmei becomes a spy for the aliens.
  10. But getting to each store takes up your free time right? Maybe that free time could have been spent on other things. So it all evens out imo. Like if I can't find a specific item, and each shop tells me to come back in two weeks, really why bother? Just order the damn thing direct and you never have to waste effort going back and forth or ringing up to ask if such and such is in stock yet. As you get older, you get more cranky. But I feel for those little kids who miss out on thier fave thing. Maybe they can shop online, but it isn't the same as seeing and feeling the product and holding the box and being excited about it finally being there in front of you as going online and eating up the cost of the ebay guy. Little kids that miss out because something wasn't on the shelf at the time they were browsing is where I see the problem. You lose a sale each time the scalper cheats little timmy of getting his hands on the toy of the rare and popular hero he wanted for christmas. Kid cries and parent is now forced to rush to stores with other parents to get it. (like in that arnold schwarzenegger movie) Eventually people no longer want to go there because nothing they were waiting for ever appears and in the long run that is bad. In the good ole days, shopping was fun because of the lack of percieved scalper activity. Now it must be frustrating only seeing the stuff everyone else already has. I think shopping online is stress free compared to having to rush to stores to grab something due to all the time it takes.
  11. Everytime this thread gets bumped I think there are new pics. Here is a pic of the upcoming low visibility vf0S:
  12. Well they had a gundam that transforms into a dog in gundam seed destiny. It sort of reminded me of zoids a bit. What I would like to see is more mecha with non humanoid styles. (ie fourlegged stuff or maybe something like the octos which reminds me of te forest walker in land mode) It can't be that guntank, pod with reverse legs and four legged dogs are obsolete can it?
  13. Actually that brings up an interesting question. You know how they show the Legendary "Alus" at the beginning? The SDF1 looks nothing like it. So it can't be the legendary alus can it? Maybe the Alus is a real ship still out there? If somebody can capture an image of the ship that would be nice.
  14. You wanted to see movies that weren't predictable and wanted more originality because you were sick of seeing the same stuff with new people in it. So don't automatically think the critics are wrong if they are jaded and want something completely different from what the fan of the original wanted. It's possible that people who liked the first, still like the first but they just want the second to not be a clone of the first. (and yet still enjoy the second as a stand alone thing even if it clones the first - it's a case of "I will see it anyway") But I'm of the belief that once a story has been told it's been told. If you tell the same thing again that is when the cynism starts and people label it a cash cow. Ie gundam for eg. Yeah ok so Hibiki isn't a fighter pilot the way Hikaru was (this was the thing I liked about the sequel that it saw things from a civilian perspective) but overall there were enough similarities between this and DYRL that you could say it cloned it.
  15. But that's just it: if you repeat the same thing over again people won't go to see a sequel anymore if you don't expand on the original. You've just won my argument for me. If you go towards 1 or the other rather than an outome that is unexpected movies are too predictable. Aliens wasn't because the bad guys were the humans as well as the aliens. For example in diehard we all were at the edge of our seats because the main character was in a losing position. the bad guy looked like he was going to win because he had the hostages and the automatic weapons. We don't know what is going to happen and there is a sense of danger because the hero isn't a "hero" (like arnie in commando) has no proper training and this is what makes the movie interesting because you can relate to the character. Now if you were to make a sequel doing the exact same thing don't you think you would be rolling your eyes in your head?? Everywhere the main chracter goes there are hostage situations. Too much coincidence. And frankly that just isn't realistic to me. It would as a mainstream movie goer (and not a fan of a franchise or series) seem like a cash cow attempt to capitalise on the success of the first movie. Same thing with later rocky movies. I loved the first one because it tells a story of an underdog given a chance. But when you do the same thing over again but with different people it really loses the impact that it had when you saw it first time. Audiences are smart. But 'fans' (fans = fanatics) of the original tend not to care so they keep watching the sequels.(as opposed to your mum, your dad, your best friend who might not be a 'fan' but had just watched something "as a movie" rather than as a "franchise".) The did a good thing with even the second terminator movie: no longer was Sara a victim but she became strong and this was enough of a realistic change that the tone of the movie changed alot from the first. It wasn't terminator 1 with new characters, it was a new theme altogether where the terminator was merely a tool used by good guys against bad guys who were created by the good guys in the first place. The first movie was a good vs evil, the second tried to point out where did the source of that come from. (who creates these weapons? the military who got careless and almost ended the world) For people who want more of the same thing more power to you. But for a mainstream audience they have a different more cynical attitude to watching something and lose interest more easily if they think they've seen something like it before. If a story is predictable and has the exact same message or ending as the first movie it loses impact.
  16. But there's nothing worse than knowing exactly what happens in the end and how it is going to happen. It's the danger of a sequel when they don't add twists to keep an audience guessing. Take the movie aliens for example: they gave us a queen alien, they made the android trustworthy,(not expected an android would save ripley due to what happened in the first movie) and you constantly had to guess who was going to die and who was going to live. So when you see it you can't say the sequel is doing the same thing as the original. You genuinely want to keep watching to see how it all turns out and who survives because it is not certain how things will turn out till you are sitting there and the credits roll. A sequel should take what worked well and expand on it rather than redo the whole thing again to reinvent the wheel. Anyway I enjoyed it but the ending especially reminded me of DYRL. Substitute ishtar on the sdf1 for minmay. (both standing on the exact spot) And have the aliens turn against thier leader again. A mainstream audience would roll thier eyes while the fan would be excited. What would have been interesting to me was if earth actually got destroyed or captured and survivors contacted for outside help and there was some kind of resistance or something. Then have ishstar live on earth as a human and have her create music herself or something. Maybe the aliens hear it, sympathise with her and start creating thier own songs and the mind control slowly wears off. Resistance grows and outside help comes to take out the leader while rogues loyal to the leader escape. Of course these rogues have been contaminated but don't care about the music or the mind control. (there will always be people who music won't work on) The ending won't be so happy this time. It will be a slight victory and the lesson of the show would be: humans can't be so complacent. And we would see casualties of the war. (zentradi would go back to thier warlike ways and slowly realise that maybe humans really are weak for being so careless, so they join up and train thier asses off to become soldiers, but without the mind control or blind loyalty to stupid warrior codes, just as protectors) And the military would also be forced to tell the damn truth and people would allow more funding for creation of new weapons which keeps the ending open-ended rather than enjoying peace and being relaxed. Maybe the sequel could have been the counter point to the first movie. (where minmay sings and all is well with the world - remember people in the movie had a cynical attitude that such a simple thing could work)
  17. *drools* Now that's what an alien woman should look like. Mikimoto is really good at drawing girls eh? If you didn't get a stiff dick perving at Ishtar and that red haired chic in gundam 0080: "war in the pocket" then there is seriously something wrong with you. What we need is an ishtar apreciation thread of pics dedicated to her. Oh and retroborg if you were a fan of technoman look for his cameo appearance in the crowd. Blade lives in the macross II universe! He could have wiped out the aliens but chose to let humans get destroyed. Really disturbing.. As for the haters: I think it is mainly because the sequel didn't do anything ambitious to further macross. It was essentially the same thing packaged in new wrapping. Which isn't necesarily a bad thing if that is what you want. (yes that is what I want) But it takes more imagination to create something new each time right? I mean for crying out loud they even had a Roy clone who drinks while on duty and dies dramatically, same as roy in DYRL. Couldn't they have come up with an original character?
  18. Exedol in macross 7 was a little different though. His reaction at the protodevlin made him turn into a real pussy hiding beneath his hole. Then along comes basara with his singing making it even more humiliating and destroying any sense of danger of these monsters...
  19. All mecha with reverse legs look cool. I've noticed that it is a popular design with western mech fans. That is whenever you see a mech game on pc or whatever usually it contain a tank like mech with reverse legs and no arms. Whereas in lots of anime it is always the humanoid mecha that is preffered. Why is that? Wouln't it be cool for once to have a gundam whose legs were reverse leg and is the main hero's choice?
  20. It's got skinny arms though, eh? I hope the wrists are stiff enough to hold the gunpod. I wonder if they'll try to release a low vis version?
  21. I just watched all 26 eps of aquarion again in one marathon session. Although I am not the super robot type, really the robot is one of the coolest combining ideas I have seen. It's too bad we only got to see the tank mode right at the end. I love how in the show they can kinda mix and match assault vectors with the hero vectors and how the wings can be used as an extra pair of arms. (now imagine each hand carrying a sword and doing inhuman sword techniques ie like General Grievious in star wars? ) And the story I can kind of apreciate it alot more now having seen it all in 1 chunk. Especially how in the very beginning when they were looking for wings on appollonius' back and couldn't find any due to his legendary form having ripped them off. And how the 3 vectors were used to stitch the world back together to save both the angels and humans at once rather than killing one side off completely with a victor and loser - The pilots are the "three arrows" fudo gen was talking about going in seperate ways as a united team as opposed to having three people doing the exact same thing and agreeing with each other but being weaker overall since each pilot in a team has a unique super power. If it is the earth at stake they both have a common goal to protect it since they both feed from it. That being the common goal of the angels and humans despite fighting over differences. Nature has all kind of different animals that compete for food but they are in a way sort of reliant on each other like the threads in a web that brings things together for support as a whole because of thier connection. (you got the 'destruction' side of the super powers, and the 'union' side, and it is symbolic in how the vectors seperate - like the three arrows going in seperate directions to behave as powers with individual strengths unique to thier "kind" - and combine together - where the arrows' individual strengths is working towards a single goal to become powerful body. And with that power finally being used to bring in the creation of the "new world" in the prophecy. (so all the fighting and training was necessary if the prophecy were to come true and aquarion's power was to be strong enough in the trials to save the world against the shortage in energy) But anyway as a super robot, I think it is cool for how you can combine any piece. If these were mass produced the military could make all kinds of custom versions of an aquarion. Or just make custom vectors and then mix and match different custom vectors together to make unique robot combinations. Then have a team of different mass production aquarions work together. It's a really cool toy.
  22. If we ever get a master piece "Jet fire" (ie 20th anniversary prime, ultra magnus, and starscream) from the transformers then HG MP valks are doomed!! I will just custom that and call it the true mp collection.
  23. I'd get Hikaru for the clear FP. Roy is too popular. If they ever run out of him they'll reissue because most first time buyers will want to start out with his. Although on second thoughts that stand is a nice addition. You can have the valk upside down in mid flight to pose roy in his drunken barrel roll from the movie.
  24. In my case I have been saving up all this time, and tempted everyday to spend my money on other things so the release needs to come quickly. lol The improved landing gear, rotating seat, headlaser that can be posed outwards, the leg armor (they are not really armor though are they?) improved knees for gerwalk, the detail etc make up for the fact it is still 1/60 scale imo Since the vf1 has so many variants, that is more milkable than a vf0. So I will probably eat up the cost in the hope we see more. (I predict vf0a next or maybe ghost booster parts or reactive armor. Why wouldn't they?) Hopefully they will attempt the two seater in future though. (will be interesting to see two rotating seats)
  25. This was my all time fave cartoon. I wish I had gotten around to getting the box set on dvd. I also liked the 90s spiderman cartoon the most. And don't forget the xmen. I used to watch that religiously. What marvel should do is make an animated movie of the xmen cartoon the same way that transformers got an animated cartoon. Super heroes belong in an animated form the most imo. It allows for proper proportions (ie think of characters like juggernaut and sabertooth) proper action scenes (I like seeing people getting beat up in animated form more than in live action movie form) and 'close the to comic' appearance. (people can wear spandex without being embarassed) I prefer my characters to be stuck in thier fantasy form rather than come close to being real people. It's just not realistic to even have super heroes in the real world so I like that they exist in a parrallel existence to us. I can't imagine super heroes being realistic. After seeing hulk movie I would have much preffered an animated movie about hulk than to see him in cg. Now the only reason I can accept batman begins is because he is a character most suited for a movie audience. He doesn't have powers but skill, and uses his brains to catch people. Same thing with the punisher movie: the guy relies mostly on his guns right? Same thing with the blade movie: blade is a half vampire so his powers are supernatural but this translates well to movie form since he still uses skill and weapons to fight, plus there is the horror element which translates well to a movie.
