  1. Thanks guys. But hey, I expect some detailed questions and comments. Who else is gonna care about a Macross project these days!
  2. Just finished my new project. Please head over to the Model Kits forum for a full break down.
  3. Because Macross is the coolest. (Extra credit for naming the greeblies and easter eggs!) xoxo, arbit I thought I would make a separate topic for this add-on, since it has a large amount of detail on its own, and can be attached to any flight deck. Full detailed WIP will follow once I get my resources together. Character figures are made by me, using a lot of stock 3D parts from around the internet. Barrels/Lifeboats from Thingiverse, edited by @Xigfrid to add the Macross flag. Barrel racks by @Xigfrid Original SDF-1 3D model made by GUILLEABM83 on Cults3d, heavily edited, separated, and hollowed by me for printing and lighting. Thanks to Guillermo for his awesome work! Macross robots and cameras by OIM on Cults3d. Thanks Olivier! Go check out his library of Macross figures. Platform made by me from super duper secret greeblies on Thingiverse.
  4. @Jasonc Great work! Awesome to see you 3D modeling. What software are you using? You seem pretty advanced. I like your organic lines in the design. Have you seen this version up on Thingiverse? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4920434
  5. Cool. It's not even blocked in my region...
  6. Nice addition to the cockpit. I grew up there between from 5th to 10th grade. Going down to the pier in Galveston and getting an old fashioned soda was a regular for holidays and school trips (before the huge hurricane, have not seen it since, so I'm glad to see it's back in stride). And we visited Nasa once as well. But take it easy, your Titanic doers not need any more realism!
  7. Beautiful work. I'm guessing that connector is super tiny.
  8. Pretty awesome. He must be laser cutting. That is some thick stock.
  9. Fantastic paint job @CrossAir! I'm not a car guy, but would love to see more photos of the paint job on that pickup. The sub header should be, "When Toyota designs cars for American tastes." You won't see that car on Japanese streets! Even your painting from 20 ears ago shows you're a natural. I like the delicate spray of camouflage over the base paint.
  10. That's a cooool display base! Unique and very appropriate for the subject. Thumbs up!
  11. I like your enthusiasm, but unfortunately no, it's not on my to do list yet. Did you see my video with the other Sharon figures?
  12. Thanks for keeping us up to date. Ouch. I keep those hardware store primers for painting bases and diorama walls and big clunky stuff like that. I've been using Vallejo polyurethane primers a lot recently on detailed parts, now that I have figured out how to use them. Since they don't sand well at all, you have to thin them real well and lay them down with confidence. But they go on soft, glossy and smooth, no dust or residue at all like lacquer primers. Great for figures and parts that don't need sanding. If I will need sanding, like for a valk with seam lines, then I use lacquer hobby primers. And a lot of times I don't use a primer at all. I just lay down very thin layers of acrylic on well-cleaned parts and build up after they dry.
  13. That makes two of us. I'm with you guys. With a bit more practice, I'm hoping to get the crew together. Nagging me incessantly may also work.
  14. I've wondered the same thing. I've come up with several ideas: Advances in quality of hobby supplies and paints increase painting quality for everyone, even total nubes. Youtube and other online tutorials spreading knowledge. Cross influences from different types of hobbies, electronics, and art into scale models. All types of people and personalities get into scale modeling, not just the sci-fi or military fans. And now with 3D Printing, the future will knock our socks off even more.
  15. Well if you like aerial combat, put on Macross Plus Movie Edition this weekend, and you can thank me later.
  16. Cool. Sounds about right to me. His valks are great if you need a quick solution for a diorama, and you're not bothered about little details. And he has a wide variety of rare valks for completists.
  17. I've been geeking out over Xigrid's bike recently. I finally finished! It took me many years to gain the confidence to paint this little thing. Xigfrid's 1/60 Isamu Bike and Ghost-9. And I have been fiddling around with this concept for Sharon Apple w/ Isamu's Bike. 1/48 scale. I think Sharon is the right size now.
  18. Do you mean the 3D desgin is weird, or are you just not familiar with Macross Plus? In any case, I agree the design is heavily pixelated, which prints "good enough" in small 1/60 scale. But any larger scale definitely needs smoothing. I finally finished! It took me many years to gain the confidence to paint this little thing. Xigfrid's 1/60 Isamu Bike and Ghost-9. That's a lot of years of work champ, I just hope you've enjoyed it. And since you are so familiar with the VF-9 design and 3D Modeling, I am interested in hearing your review of this VF-9 by Senovis on Cults3D.
  19. Your VF-9 is absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful soft lines.
  20. Concept WIP. Sharon Apple w/ Isamu Bike - Bike by Xigfrid. 1/48 3.6cm. Amateur Fan Art.
  21. Sweet backdrop and photo! Thanks for influencing us to learn more about these designs. As a Nadia fan, I'm seeing a lot of influence from the Cordoba on the Super Space Battleship Neo Nautilus. Thunderbirds is always mentioned as an influence on the Neo Nautilus, but a lot seems to come from the Cordoba too. Studio Nue is credited on the Cordoba model kit page. But if I were to guess, I would say Miyatake probably designed it, not Kawamori... just based on the design details and it being a capital ship. But what do I know... (FYI, Kawamori is said to make a cameo in Nadia, as a very technical science-minded crew member of the Nautilus. He looks just like him to me.) Amazing work. I'm sure you're having fun researching every aspect of this old beast of a ship. But would it hurt your feelings if I said the stacks look "light faded orange" to me🤪 Bring on the Titanic memes. I loved that movie. Should I find a rock to hide under??? @MechTech was cooler than I was in high school. Lots cooler. Dang what a ride! What a classic! Looks like what graphics designers used to use.
  22. I missed this one. A really fun idea. And the guy really thought it through: Notice that the missile placements are empty.
  23. I also use Tamiya Thinner for Tamiya Acrylics, but I have heard that Mr. Levelling Thinner does wonders with Tamiya Acrylics.
