RX-93 Nu Gundam from Hobby Japan 412
the white drew carey replied to Majestic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Looks nice. Being a fan of the Nu-Gundam, I can see a lot of aesthetic differences. It's neat, but not terribly exciting. The Hi-Nu is more badass. -

Customs rarely become production kits. And unless it's a Katoki design (or redesign) it won't be released as a FIX. What you should do is get a hold of a scanner so's we can see what your talking about. -
Well, here's a picture of the wallpaper I put up using this picture. I don't know why someone wants it so bad, though...

Actually, IIRC, some of those games, including this one, are not Studio Nue projects, but BigWest projects. The VF-1SOL isn't a Kawamori design. Hence, it isn't in the Shoji Kawamori Macross Design Works book.
-
I don't think it's canon in the Macross timeline. But you know what: A lot of people keep asking if the VF-1 will be redesigned at the end of M-0 to look more similar to the VF-0, but the VF-1SOL seen here in the game seems to do that already.

Funny Gundam flash animation

I just love when they show the ?! right next to the Guntank. The Guntank is an incredibly stupid MS. -

Heck, even though I know the name Willie Mays, I'd be hard pressed to pick him out of a lineup. But then again, Baseball does suck. -
Hilarious Auction Description

I disagree. I think the humor of it all is further multiplied by his updates on the current status of the auction. -

Uminoken- Are you a University Student? If so, your school's tech store usually has the "Educational License" version of Photoshop for much cheaper (usually around $150-$200). The educational license version is the same software, just much cheaper for students. -
I hate to say it Graham, but I think you're wrong. Notice the positioning of the cockpit, especially the "hole" which the pilot's lower body goes into. It's clear that it is in a vertical orientation with the rest of the Q-Rau. Now, look at the side view of the Q-Rau, also taken from Perfect Memory, one of which I've illustrated how the pilot is positioned, and one of which with the pilot's legs in the backback. It simply doesn't match up: 1) How the cockpit is illustrated already, the hole for the lower half of the body clearly goes straight down, not into the backpack, and 2) the Meltrandi pilots would have to be extremely flexible to get their legs into that backback! The problem with the legs going into the backpack is that it is simply mounted too high for that to be a feasible option.
-
I've always assumed that the pilot is in a standing position with her legs going into the "upper thighs" of the Q-Rau.

Favorite Console Game: VASTEEL (TG-16 CD-ROM)- My friend imported this from Japan a long time ago, way before the English version came out. It took us the longest time to figure out what the Japanese symbols meant. But it was one of the funnest strategy/fighting games of all time!!! The primary gameplay has you controlling your army of robots and hovertanks in a turn-based, hex-grid system to conquer all of your enemies cities and bases on a gamemap (and then, of course, move to the next level). But once you moved onto an opposing player's unit, it moved to a 45 degree angle camera view of both your units where you would fight it out arcade style, with movement in all four directions. One button used your main weapon, more powerful, but longer reload times. The other button would either 1) Shoot your smaller, secondary weapon if you were far away from your enemy, or batter him with a fist or club weapon if you were close). It was the bomb!!! Favorite Arcade Game: GALAGA- Like you had to ask.

And when everything was going so well...

What it seems he's done is exactly what I hoped he does: Go back and read LOTR's Appndix B, beginning on page 1071 "LATER EVENTS CONCERNING MEMBERS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING". Since many people want to know what happened to our heroes lives afterwards, this is great stuff. The last one makes me weepy. -
What were your Favorite PS2 games of this year

Hey Duke Togo- Is R3K VII worth buying? I was going to pick it up a while ago, but the store clerk said it was a poor entry into the series. I ended up buying the PTO instead which, although neat, lacked accurate and refined controls during the battle modes (ie- Trying to get your fleet around a peninsula can be quite trying). -
I that new members must be required to use one of the Leb-atars for about a month until they can pick their own. Call it an initiation. Or hazing. Either or, it would be terribly funny.

Wait... Underage girls that a ton of adult men go apeshit for? Is this an Evangelion remake?

To quote a Superchunk song: There's nothing new, there's nothing new. Everything's borrowed, everything's used.

I've seen more relevant threads in the Other Anime and Sci-Fi section get locked. Yet this thread, which has little or no bearing on Anime or Science Fiction, remains open. I hate to quote the Mods themselves, and others, but there's probably plenty of Martial Arts forums on the internet. Maybe Martial Arts discussion should head over there.

That's OK, everyone's allowed to have their own opinion... ... even if it's wrong.

"The Plundering Fleet" and "The Lost Two Years"

Ummm... looking at the Scrambled Valkyrie stuff- Is that the first mention of the Protodevelin? -
Happy holidays to you too, oh Mr. Maturity. What's worse: The person who holds on to an anime from the past, or the person who takes the time to mock him*? Slam Dunk sounds like the kind of guy who ends up breaking his wrist on the rim. *with his "thousand of IP addresses", no less.

See, that to me sounds hilarious. By the time period of the film, the samurai were little more than a joke. There hadn't been a war in over 200 years. These guys had no real fighting experience (duels were even illegal by this point). The ones who hadn't found jobs in the beurocracy were little more than societal leeches who couldn't be productive even when they wanted to be. They're only usefulness was in putting down the occasional peasant uprising. Against a real military they'd be completely ineffective, as history proves. Sad my ass. There is alot more to being a Samurai than just being able to fight good. It's an entire lifestyle and beleif system and culture that had lasted for hundreds of years that was "phased out" in a decade. calling them a joke simply because there hadn't been any wars in the recent history is rather unjustified, like telling a black belt he's wasted his time by learning to fight when its unlikely he'll ever really need it. sure they wern't a viable military option anymore, but that doesn't make it a good thing that a man whos devoted his whole life to a dicipline should be gunned down on the battle feild buy a guy with a few months of fire arm training. I have to agree with KingNor here, Jeleinen. Regardless of the Samurai's military viability, their destruction signaled the end of an amazing aspect of Japanese history and culture. If you want to see a joke, look at how the "modern" Japanese military tried to adopt many ways of the Samurai without ever making an attempt to understand the actual meaning of honor. To say the Samurai are a joke is just like saying that any belief system is outmoded and useless, including religions and social morality. Needless to say, I liked the movie. But I do have issues with how it was presented (spoiler alert): * * * * * * * In the film they present the Saumrai as attempting to defend the Emperor against the influx of Western influence. But, IIRC, part of the problem historically is that they didn't want Japan to have anything to do with modernization. Their own inability to adapt and/or accept change was also part of their downfall.

When DYRL gets official region-1 release...
the white drew carey replied to treatment's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I am being fair. They took pre-orders before the product was even done. They produced a set amount of the 9-disk box sets once the pre-ordering was done. These 9-disk sets were especially for the pre-order and were never produced for regular sale, so you're wrong in stating they had a whole load of stock. They may have over-produced the 3-disk sets as well as the single disk sets, but I doubt it. I bet they're actually still producing sets instead of sitting on a bunch of stock. Either or, AnimeIgo clearly stated that the pre-order sets were to be a discounted price and the regular release would cost more. Whether or not market forces have caused the decrease in price, they still haven't even said anything about it or acknowledged that they were initially mistaken. A simple "Hey, we were wrong" would've cleared my conscience regarding the company. But the fact that they haven't even made a statement about it leads me to believe that 1) they don't give a damn about the people who supported them and dished out a whole bunch of money on an as yet unfinished product, and 2) They're simply content to have taken the money and ran.
