  1. Ok, I'm gonna be the nice guy here. About a month ago in the n00b thread I posted this question. I'm not gonna find the exact page that is on but, I think it was Azrael who said that the transformation would give the Battle 7 a better firing arc. Something like a tank's turret only that its omni-directional by 180 degrees. Its faster to move the arm/gun than to move the whole ship to target something. It makes sense IMHO.
  2. I just thought of a funny one. What if I intercepted your military broadcast channel (or better yet, used speakerpods) and started blasting the "Barney the Purple Dinosaur Song" on it while we're in battle. Would that drive you go crazy with convulsions and make you lose your own fighting edge? I'd think so. But seriously, the whole faith/belief thing was what Basara's idealistic character thinks. I mean, come on, he tried to sing and move the mountain. It just shows how idealistic (or stupid) Basara is. Of course his singing alone doesn't have much effect on the enemy, but later they introduced the idea that he had some innate power called Anima Spiritia, and the power can be harnessed with Dr. Chiba's devices. And then Basara becomes a brat and runs off to ponder on what he really is singing for (when he realises his singing is just for a weapon for the military). The Anima Spiritia of the past protodevlin wars probably had other means of using their power than singing, as the power of Spiritia is more of the power of faith and the will to live, rather than the power of singing. (that's what I think anyway) The stronger the belief, the stronger the power. This is proven on numerous occasions on how certain people's spiritia increases as they fight to save their lives. And how the Jamming Birds fail so miserably since they keep screaming like wussies in battle. SO for all those who were kinda upset towards the magic/singing thing. Don't be too upset. The way I see it, its probably not so mystical as they made it seem and its not really that deviating from the original macross. If its just singing to cause culture shock in Macross SDF, why didn't the Zentradi get culture shock at other radio/tv broadcasts that they were intercepting? Why must it only be Min May? Does she have this "anima spiritia" as well that she could cause culture shock unaided by any gadgets other than a microphone? I refer you back to Macross 7 encore, fleet of the strongest women. It was only Basara who could cause the culture shock on the Meltrandi fleet. Mylene wasn't doing much in terms of culture shocking. (and of course, max and milia were having fun culture shocking too ) My 2 cents.
  3. Japanese in general don't have any REAL religion. Their "religion" is somewhat from Buddhism roots but it kinda deviated into strange ness and thus you get shrine maidens, lucky charms, wishing wells etc. Its more of a cultural thing than a religion thing if you get what i mean. Christianity is probably the least penetrated religion in Japan. Historically the Portugeses spread the religion among the samurai but they christian samurai were quickly purged and wiped out. So about Kawamori, doesn't mean he does some Christian things in the anime makes him a Christian. Putting Christianity in anime probably has much reason as putting ENGRISH in the songs and names in the anime.

    Question about:

Strange that I get none of this floppiness you guys mentioned with my 1/60 VF-1S Strike Valk. The thing's still sturdy as ever after like 20-30 over transformations. Must be lucky.
  5. Macross 7 was not what I expected. Kinda beared through the 1st few episodes with dread and after awhile i grew to like it. I mean, ignore all the "attack of the week" segments which I felt could be done without. Don't ask geeky Macross questions like how much ships in the M7 fleet has been destroyed and how insane their casualties are. Concentrate instead on the characters and their lives. If you want cool mecha action, M7 is not for you, maybe a few gem moments here and there but its mostly repeated animation anyway. I'd think, you can never truly be a Macross fan until you learn to love M7, this slightly deformed child of "big giant froating head". PS: I love Fire Bomber...gotta be one of the best compilations for anime ever. This is very true. I take Star Wars as an example. "Fans" hated episode 1 & 2 because they wanted the original triology and the feelings it evoked. Eps 1& 2 failed utterly on this. I wouldn't think Episode 1 & 2 are bad if I've never seen Star Wars in my entire life. You don't understand M7's concept then, since you've only seen some of it. Its not about people fighting by screaming at each other. Its about spiritual energy. The power of belief and faith. Singing is just a medium to express that energy. Don't know much about it, but we'll probably learn more from Macross Zero (hopefully) what's the deal with singing and powers.
  6. In Macross Zero, the VF-0 also floats on water. I'm just guessing its probably as simple as the fact that the Valks are air tight and probably have enough balast in the legs and body to keep them afloat.

    My toy shelves

I really want this....but at the way things are going, it seems there's gonna be a major shortage of eva volume 9 to meet preorders and demand.
  8. Lotus: most probably a corrupted file. Not sure if the file on the server is corrupted or it got corrupted in transit. Use Gspot (video utility) to determine its codec and see what's wrong with it. If it doesn't render, then it is indeed corrupted.

    My toy shelves

all mine are here. I know that at least the 13rd angel & berserk eva 1 are missing in my collection but i passed on them (no more room ) You're missing the winged and unwinged EVA05 series from Kaiyodo. Those are pretty kick ass stuff. Damn, you have the Soul Of Chogokin evas....too *(!@&*(! expensive for their size imho. Not sure how much you bought it for, but they were worth a 1/60 valk here. Well, this is my collection. My collection It has a very humble Macross section though. Can't afford alotta valks. PS: loved what you did with the eva poses.
  10. Wow..all this talk about HK and shopping, I'm planning on a trip on April.
  11. I took some dude's advice (the dude who did the TV Max custom i think), and used gundam marker to line my VF-1S valk, and then use an eraser to clean them up. It looks great! I'm abit afraid to line the head lasers though, cause not very sure how i'm gonna get enough space for me to line them properly and erase them without breaking them. Advice needed: would it turn out ok if I lined the yellow stripes on the chest panel? I left that our for now cause I fear it might look weird.
  12. I never knew this...those b***ards.....they have worldwide distribution rights?! Damn! Makes you wonder how much they actually paid for the licenses.
  13. The nose cone flap where the swing bars go into in battroid mode...on my VF-1S is getting loose. So far, it still stays there in fighter/gerwalk mode, but a little movement will make it drop. Words of advice to tigten it anyone?
  14. Nice timing. I was about to ask the exact same thing. Thanks, Exo. PS: never knew the back part was supposed to be pushed in....that makes more sense and made it more secure.
  15. On the issue of copyrights, who would Madman have to buy licenses from to release Macross in Australia? Studio Nu or HG? Why does it have to have a HG logo on it? Cause HG subbed it? Just wondering. I'm still abit confused over the whole copyright issue Ewilen posed. Another question, does these DVDs have dubs? If so, are they the exact same "robotech dubs" or are they a whole different dubbing?
  16. There was a planned reissue of Roy VF-1S WITH Strike Fastpacks. This was during Tokyo Toy Show. Not sure whatever happened with it. The new Roy VF-1S fixes some problems the old Roy had.
  17. installed it but the music's all funny. The music seems to be choppy and jumps from time to time. Its annoying.
  18. And pose them with pride!! Those are not even poses.

    Yamato stock stickers

Oh well...I guess nothing beats them Taka toys stickers yet.
  20. I originally posted this on the problems thread...but lacked any response. So here it is. Received my takatoys stickers from tmp. W00ts! So I started peeling them yamato stickers, that's when I realise, SOME of them I only peeled off the top layer. Apparently the Yamato stickers have a top layer which looks very visible if stuck to the plastic, but it can be removed and makes the sticker much thinner and less visible on the seams. Did anyone know about this? I found it really hard to take out this layer for most of the stickers though while my real intent was to just peel those yamato stickers off. Its very random that I manage to peel just the layer, and not the whole sticker itself.
  21. So you're saying that the Yamto stickers have a protective layer over the actual sticker and overall are thinner than what most people believed? :Dat Yes...unless of course peeling of the said layer was not intended to happen. I tried peeling some with the intent of only peeling the top layer...but usually I just yank off the whole sticker. Its strange. So i'm curious if that top layer was intended for removal. The stickers are very very thin after you peel off that layer.
  22. Actually if i remembered correctly, the launch arm is supposed to grab the TOP of the valkyrie, not the bottom.

  24. Okay, again, I'm not a lawyer, but I've been reading up on Japanese copyright law and a bit on US copyright law. If you're saying that distributing the videos without editing them would be okay, I'm afraid you're mistaken. (I don't think you're saying that but I want to be clear.) That's exactly what I'm saying. It falls under fair use and most people would argue that its for "educational purposes" and own use. Gray area there for you. Its no different from some dude who recorded a show off TV, and decided to borrow his copy to friends who missed the show. If you say this is illegal, VHS or any recording sort of medium might as well be illegal as well if you argue that copying off TV makes the copy an unauthorised copy.
  25. ewilen: ahh...interesting. Thanks for the links. Yes, it seems there's a difficulty enforcing a copyright outside the country origin rather than there's no protection if its outside the country of origin. Thanks for clearing that up for me. But reading the Berne thing a little more, it seems its not so much of distributing the videos that is the problem. Its more of the visual editing of the show (to add in subtitles) that is causing the problem because you require permission from the copyright owner to translate the work. The way I understand it from all those links, it would be technically legal if fansubs distributed translations on a .txt file....or a .sub file for vobsub use (which is basically a text file with timestamps to tell when the text shows up on screen), fansubs would probably be legal since recording anime and distributing it falls under fair use (unless its for commercial gain). If what I'm assuming is right, .sub files will be the next "in thing" for fansubbers if license enforcers decide to take legal action against fansubs. (like the RIAA-scale campaigns)
